As with many of Italy's big cities, hotels in Milan are not cheap. There is a huge choice of varied accommodation – from hostels and B&Bs to five star luxury hotels – but all of the best places book up in advance. To make sure you get your top choice, reserve as far ahead as possible before arrival. The most expensive Milan hotels are to be found round the biggest tourist areas, close to the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and La Scala. Budget hostels are located mostly by the main train station, the Stazione Centrale. A flurry of hip, boutique hotels have opened in Milan recently.
