Thai Royal

Though centrally located, clean, and relatively smart, the Thai Royal Hotel has not yet decided whether it was an "oasis of calm", as it falsely advertises itself , or an all-night karaoke bar... Located in a non-descript modern building, the hotel boasts a karaoke-nightclub-bar on its first floor (one up from ground) which remains open until 0400 in the morning, every morning. Rooms are located on floors 3 to 6, but the music and "singing" from the poorly soundproofed bar can be heard throughout the building, until the last drunken customer leaves (usually at daybreak). On saturday nights the volume is raised to concert pitch. Though i started on the third floor, I quickly asked to be moved up after the first sleepless night. Though the sixth floor offered a bit of respite (only three rooms there, one of which is a massive suite), the thumping music and under-average bleating still dominated my nights. When i politely informed the front desk that a decent night's sleep, with the prices they were charging, should be part of their service, i was dismissed with a bored look. Let me put it simply: if you are looking for a half-decent night's sleep in Cologne, please avoid this hotel. A pity, because it has alot going for it.

Don't see how this standard city hotel achieved 4 stars! The Thai seems to refer only to the restaurant on the ground floor!

+It was a fabulous hotel with really friendly helpful staff, especially the receptionist in the morning/daytime. She was lovely -The hot water didn't work while we were there but they were getting a new boiler the day after we left.

Internet didnt work on 2 of 3 days, They charged me 89 instead of 69 . I didnt notice it earlier since I hadnt my reservation with me.

+Spacious rooms, clean and in the heart of everything. The breakfast was 2nd to none. We will stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone. -There is no air conditioning, but a large floor fan is supplied and works well. The higher floor the room is on, the quieter it will be due to the Karaoke Bar on the first floor. However, the rooms are well insulated from noise.

+The rooms were clean the staf very helpfull the breakfast was excellent

+Personeel was geweldig, Kamer superschoon; ongeacht de tijd waarop we vertrokken werd onze kamer altijd perfect gereinigd. Goede locatie! -De karaokebar geeft inderdaad ietwat geluidsoverlast. In de badkamer van onze niet-roken kamer hing een sigarettenlucht (afkomstig uit de afzuiging).
