I booked and paid for three rooms. They put me and my kids on separate floors in crappy little closet sized rooms on an inner courtyard. They put the young German couple traveling with my family in a much nicer room. I asked to move to a nicer room since there was such a huge discrepancy between the rooms for us and for the German couple and we were told we could not move unless I paid a fee. It seemed very much that the front desk staff put the Americans in the crappiest rooms available (key did not work) while placing the young couple traveling with us in preferred accommodation.

Great Site to stay The hotel is beautifully situated right at the centre of Cologne across the Cathedral. Wonderful bells and yet very quiet despite the busy area around the hotel and cathedral. However, not easy to find when driving because of Cologne's tricky one way system and road works.

Great Downtown Hotel Great downtown location, just steps from the cathedral. A bit pricey but the daily rate can vary dramatically so it’s worth checking the price on other dates. Service is excellent, has been completely modernized.

Excellent hotel We enjoyed this hotel very much. Perfect location on he main square. The hotel was in perfect condition and well kept. Price was well in line with the quality. The staff was extremely friendly. Hotel entrance is on a busy square and it took a while to find out you must drive your car on the square through the people to the front door. They then took my car from there and parked it for me and there was no parking fee. I highly recommend it. Some complain about the church bells. Our room looked on directly on the Dom and we had no problem sleeping but then again we are not light sleepers. We skipped the typical expensive European breakfast and went next door to Starbucks.

Cologne is my hometown, so I know it very well. The Dom Hotel is first choice, if you want to stay right in the center of the city.
