Excelsior Hotel Ernst Cologne

Great Location As the other reviews stated, the hotel is beautiful, has a great breakfast, and is in the perfect location. We took the train to/from the hotel which was very easy once we had help getting on the correct train (Koln Hbf) at the airport. Our only complaint is that we needed 2 rooms close to each other because there are four in our family (two small children) but the hotel couldn't accomodate the request. They upgraded our rooms (very nice) but they were on opposite sides of the hotel from one another. Considering we weren't in the room much and it was only 2 nights, it wasn't a big deal. We still would stay there again without hesitation.

A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location, right across the road from the cathedral and in the old town. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean, v comfy beds and a nice big bathroom. The breakfast was good, a lot of variety although the hot food selection was small. The staff were very friendly and helpful. In all, a very enjoyable experience.

Very welcoming, conscientious, courteous front desk staff. Room was a junior suite on fifth floor, furnishings were new, bed was comfortable, bathroom was sparkling clean with new fixtures. Maid service was excellent. Free minibar was a welcome touch. Location is unbeatable, one minute by foot from Central Station and thirty seconds from cathedral. Breakfast not included in Venere price and would have been EUR 16 but there is a delicious breakfast buffet for EUR 11.90 from 0830 at the classic cafe/pastry shop across the cathedral plaza from hotel. I will gladly stay at the Excelsior again and would highly recommend it.

We just returned from a Christmas Rhine River Cruise ending in Cologne. We spent three days in this great hotel for Christmas. We had a full live tree in our suite - and many amenities that hotels charge extra for were included -- mini-bar, computer time, health spa, breakfast etc.

Excellent hotel, wonderful service The service could not be faulted in any department, and the newly refurbished rooms are superb. The bathroom under floor heating is, however, very hot and might be uncomfortable to bare feet.

Excellent loctation in the city centre. Superb staff and service. Clean, spacious, comfortable rooms - minibar included in room pricing which is a nice addition.

I just stayed one night in the recently innovated section of the hotel. They room had some problem with electricity supply which I believe will solve soon, after they operate some weeks.

Cologne's Best Don't worry about having a room with a view of the Cathedral. The rooms at the back are much quieter so save your money to spend on the gloriously comforting 'Alpen Power' mulled wine drinks from the Christmas market just outside the hotel!
