Nine of us flew from Manchester England by H.L.X. (no frills airline) left on sat a.m. return Sun p.m.Really good trip . Taxis outside the terminal building charge 22euros per car right to our hotel door.(price comparable with the shuttle bus and underground). Hotel very modern with a superb buffet breakfast at 89euros per twin room, one of our party could not go and it was no trouble for the hotel to offer a single @69euros. The markets were brilliant and so was the impressive Dom Cathedral, the only bit of sightseeing we didas it was mainly for xmas shopping that we went. We were goiung to go on the 2hour tour around cologne but the bus could not fit us all on. So we walked along the Rhine to the Chocolate museum which is well worth a visit. Agree a price for a taxi before you leave the hotel as three taxi drivers tried to charge us more than we had agreed 25euros per car

My daughter and I stayed at the Ambassador Hotel for 2 nights, this was our first time in Cologne. Upon arrival at the hotel we found the staff to be efficient and friendly. The room (twin) was small, however it was clean and adequate for our short stay. We did find the room very hot at night. The breakfast was very good and the atmosphere in the breakfast area was very relaxing. The hotel is right beside the tram stops which made getting around very easy. Overall this hotel is good for short stays. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We would definitely use this hotel again.

stayed at the ambassador for the xmas market. The hotel is spotlessly clean the rooms are small but adequete for a city break. The breakfast was superb and the little bistro breakfast room was lovely. The location of the hotel is perfect as you have a tram right outside the hotel to take you into cologne itself which takes about 10min or you can walk which would take about 25min but you get to walk through the shopping areas which there are alot of. I would recommend this hotel 100 percent especially for the xmas markets.

Hotel is brilliantly located at a major tram junction - so easy access into the centre of Cologne or direct to Bonn. There are lots of bars locally and a fair few restaurants - mostly non-German food e.g. Chinese, Indian, Lebanese etc. The hotel has an Argentian Steak House in the basement - we did not try it but it seemed very popular. Hotel was spotlessly clean - foyer has a small bar looking onto the street. This and an adjoining room doubles as the breakfast area. Breakfasts were great - continental style buffet - good selection of breads, cereals, meats, cheese, yoghurt etc. Eggs were available as well. Breakfast was from 6am until 11am. Great if you want a leisurely start. Room was modern and clean - comfy beds and adequate bathroom and wardrobe space. The room was fairly small but adequate for a city base. TV in room had at least 2 english news channels. Double glazing kept the street noise out - but was loub when window opened. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definately stay here again.

Yes avoid , by all means fly budget HXL from Manchester if you must and save your hard earned euros for something better. The reality and their website... TWO complete different entities, are they the same hotel? surley not. And while im at it avoid koln the is much much better in Germany than this drab concrete mess. Its the first time ever in 20 years of world travel that I've checked out early and paid for an earlier flight home... enough said

The location is perfect. You can walk to the on of the many shopping districts that is not very far (about a 15 min walk). A train stop is directly in front of the hotel. The breakfast was great. Cereal, mixed fruit, Brotchen, more bread, bacon, eggs, cheese, a selection of sliced meat, OJ, apple, coffee.....overall very good. The front desk personnel were very nice and helpful but did give some wrong information about the internet usage. The room, ok, the bathrooms are extra tiny. I dont know if that is European but it was small. The bed was hard but bearable for the time spent. I believe they were doing construction on the outside of the building during our stay. Luckilky we already left the hotel before they started and returned way after they were finished. We had a large room which was a good size for two people. Oh, I almost forgot. I paid 9EUR for 3 hours of internet. They receptionist told me that during my stay I would be able to log in and log out until I complete my usage time. I go to the room, log in and log out. The next day I log in but my code doesnt work. Once you log in you have to use it within 3 hours!! Another receptionist told me that. So, I didnt argue but be aware. Overall, average, great breakfast, and good hotel. I would stay again if necessary.

The hotel bore no resemblance at all to the website pictures, which made it expensive. Standard room was absolutely tiny and boiling hot. Staff were very unfriendly (and I speak German) could not/would not provide us with an iron and, when asked, told us there was no ironing service. Save your €50 and stay in an Ibis!

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights for a week end. The location is good, on BarbarossaPlatz, 4 stops from the main train station (Koln/Dom Hbf) , you can take a reduced ticket (valid for max. 4 stops) at 1,50 euro to reach it. The front desk people really so kind, smiley and helpful. The hotel is in 7th floors, 7 rooms per floor. Mine was at 2nd floor on the square , With the windows open the nights are a bit noisy but the windows have 2 layers so with closed window it's quiet. The room was a bit small, a double bed , a table with chair, a wardrobe and TV (no refrigerator). The bathroom is small but functional. The cleanliness is ok. Towels and linen changed everyday. The breakfast is really good, it's selfservice and you can find croissant, cookies, ham, egg, different kind of breads and in germany of course you will find different kind of delicious jam. The hotel has Wi-Fi internet access but you should pay (1 hr=3eur, 3hr=8eur, 24he=12eur ... expensive ! and be aware ... 1 hour is continious ... i mean you can not use half an hour now and half an hour later . when you log-in for the first time you have just one hour connection. The only neagative thing that i can say is that the bathroom had no ventilation.

I stayed at the Ambassador Hotel while in Cologne on an unscheduled overnight stay. I had no reservation, of course, and was able to get a room for 54 euro on a Saturday night. The hotel is slightly out of the centre of Cologne, but easily accessible via more than one direct underground connection from the Hbf and Dom. Perfect if you have only one suitcase ;-) I stayed in a single room, which could accommodate two easily, but sleeping seperately, and with only a little bit of cramping. The room was very clean and modern. The window shade shut out nearly all of the light from the street and the double windows (also spotlessly clean) kept all the noise out (much appreciated). The bed was also comfortable, but you would do well to ask for an extra pillow after you check in! In the room was a new TV, stationary, Cologne city guide, and small desk. The washroom was a bit cramped but squeeky clean and modern in design. Good bright lighting. It had a glass door, though, which I thought was kind of cool (it wasn't ENTIRELY see through - so bear in mind if travelling with your grandma or people you don't know that well!). There was a hair dryer, a good shower (adjustable shower head, good water pressure, HOT!) and soaps in the bathroom. The hotel happlily provided me with a toothbrush and toothpaste on demand, as well as extra towels. The friends I met while I was there had a triple room, which was airy and spacious, but looked directly into office building windows if I recall (so close the curtains before going to bed!) The breakfast (included) was substantial. Warm and cold options. Eggs, meats and cheeses, as well as yoghurts, cereals, and fresh fruit. As much milk, juice, and coffee or tea as you like included. I was really impressed with this hotel and it's friendly staff (plenty of smiles), and the price! Not to mention my stroke of luck in finding it while "stranded" in Cologne. In fact, my only criticism would be of the false orange calla lillies in the breakfast room (which looked new and well looked after, at least). I'd rather stay at a place like this a little outside of the centre and have a quality rest and breakfast before taking a short (10 min) tram ride into town for business, shopping, or sightseeing. (There was also nightlife in walking distance... safe street, as well.) Well worth it, this place.
