Not a bad effort The beauty of this hotel is that it isn't right in the heart of the action. You won't step out of the door and get mobbed by tourists, but most attractions are within a 30-minute stroll, from Sacre-Coeur and Montmartre to the Louvre and Notre Dame; yet the Gare du Nord is only 10min walk away. All this means it's a popular area for the locals to dine in, and there are some great little restaurants nearby, and lots of nightlife to be had in the vicinity of the Grands Boulevards.

Good location but grubby Get from the airport by using the Roissybus which goes direct to 'Opera', then jump on the metro from Opera to Cadet - easy and cheap - but only do this if your suitcase is not too big or heavy! Metro is good for getting around, but unless you plan to use it quite a few times each day don't buy the visitors pass, buy a 'billet de carnet' of 10 tickets for the price of about 7.

Small rooms but very clean and tidy (serviced daily). Great location (near Metro, just a few stops from the Louvre). All reception staff spoke English which helped to make the stay more pleasant. The only real stretch was calling the breakfast a buffet (bread products, coffee and a yoghurt whilst nice were a bit limited by English standards).

OK except our expectation of the breakfast was wrong We were a little disappointed with the breakfast, which had been described as "full". There was no hot food. The bread rolls on Sunday were not very fresh. Otherwise, the room was fine (although small) and the location was quiet (we had a room at the front, overlooking the little park).

Hotel Williams Opera We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Williams Opera very much. The staff was both helpful and personable. The room was very small, but did not put us off at all because of the positives. The location is really fabulous, a twenty minute walk in any direction takes you everything you want to see.

Must be better? Use the excellent Metro, and get day passes for same. Also by booking the walking tour, at the Eiffel Tower we bypassed the huge queues up to the restaurant.
