Relais Christine
3 Rue Christine - 75006 Paris
A secret, tranquil world in the heart of Paris Left Bank, Relais Christine is a 16th century mansion, surrounding a flower-filled cobblestone courtyard and hidden behind pretty, entrance gates. Originally a 13th century abbey, the hotel retains some fascinating historical features, has a delightful garden, an atmospheric drawing room and bar, as well as an inviting spa. The ambience is cosy and relaxing with rich warm reds and browns and striking oil portraits in the drawing room, which has its own honesty bar. Both the spa and the breakfast room have stunning vaulted, stone ceilings and the rooms and suites are a stylish mix of contemporary and classic French furnishings. The garden suites and two other rooms have their own private terrace; perfect for a peaceful afternoon spent reading a book. Discover the unique cellar spa and indulge in a massage. Then, explore Saint-Germain-des-Pres and the Latin Quarter, before dining in one of several gastronomic restaurants close to the hotel. Relais Christine is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property.

The best thing about the Relais Christine is the location. Absolutely perfect location near everthing. But at $500+ per night, I expected more than location. I didn't expect a room so small that my wife and I had to plan our movements to avoid colliding (I'm not kidding, we actually discussed how we would move in the room so as not to crash into each other), nor a toilet room (yes, a separate room which is a nice touch) so small that if you are more than an average sized woman or small man you'll be using toilets elsewhere, nor the $30+ breakfast (definetely not included in the $500+), nor the full breakfast charge for just a cup of coffee, nor the tiny, unlit closets, nor the sloppy, cheesy red-painted walls, nor the "garden view" without "garden access" (only the garden level rooms actually have access to the garden, a very small lawn abutting a street). As a New Yorker/Washingtonian with very low expectations of city hotel rooms, I still expected more of a Paris room for $500+. Stay at the Relais Christine only if you have money to burn. Be sure to pack light and arrive ready to be very intimate with your partner in an incredibly small room.

I've stayed at the Christine three times now. The people are lovely, the breakfast splendid, and the spa is a wonderful addition. It's tucked off a side alley on Rue Dauphine across from an intimate looking movie theater which alas I have never be

It's been a few years, but it was indeed charming, absolutely what a small French hotel should be. Great service. Cab drivers didn't know how to get there however, so bring a map from the airport or something...
