+ I travelled to this hotel without my husband, but with our 2 children and was quite nervous about staying in paris just the 3 of us. however, the hotel was lovely and i felt very safe and secure in our family room. it was very close to the gare de lyon, with the bus and metro right at the end of the street. there are lots of restaurants close by, catering for all different tastes and a very good mini market round the corner with high quality sandwiches and salads nice and cheap. we did a lot of walking, down to the bastille and along the riverside, all felt very safe and friendly. the open tour bus stops close to the hotel and is an excellent way to tour the city, much more pleasant than the underground. the hotel breakfast was really good, much better than other continental brekfasts we've had; fresh croissants, typhoo tea (better than lipton) and hot milk to make great milky coffee. breakfast is all you can eat and at 7.50 pp is a snip. the staff were lovely; humoured my poor french and helped with the french when we had to go looking for my son's lost hat - quickly found in the restaurant around the corner.

The hotel is very close to everything. There are lots of restaurants around the hotel with reasonable prices. Our Parisian friend said that there are reasonably priced watering holes there. Lots of batisserie shops and wine shops. There is a good currency exchange on Rue de Lyon which is two streets down, parallel to the hotel street towards the Seine River. There is an efficient ferry system Take a batobus ferry along the Seine(hop on hop off) for a day/12euros. There are lots of maps and brochures in the lobby.

Our room was extremely nice. Because I asked for a room off the street, the window opened onto a ventilator shaft, incorrectly termed a courtyard. The air conditioning was welcome, as we needed heat in the morning. However, nothing but heat was available, buildingwide. It was late October, very cool outside, and the refrigeration was turned off.

Hotel was well located 200m from Gare de Lyon, room good enough though a bit small for 2. Breakfast may be improved, and not included in the booking price. Went beyond limit with MasterCard: porter was not able at all to help me finding a solution and did not accept Diners card.
