The hotel is located in a primarily residential neighborhood, which is actually not that sketchy as some other reviewers claimed. It is also just a few blocks away from the Belleville neighborhood, which is the cosmopolitan district of Paris, and while not the most clean or touristy, offers a good mix of Asian and North African stores with good prices. The closest subway stop is Jourdain (5 minute walk). The map provided on Venere makes it seem that Belleville is also fairly close, but it is actually a 20-30 minute walk from the hotel. The actual hotel is clean, albeit the rooms and especially the bathrooms are tiny. But then again, for the price and the proximity to the center, it is not at all bad. There is wireless internet on the bottom floor as well as a stationary computer that you can pay to use. Although breakfast is not included, there is a really good bakery just a block away from the hotel where you can buy a pastry for 1-2 euros.

exactly as the comments had stated......the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in with the longest set of spiral staircases I've ever had the priviledge of hauling my luggage up. The twin rooms are only available on the 5th and 6th floors (90 steps to the 5th floor!!)so maybe opt for double bed and lower level. Hotel was very clean (smelled of bleach going up the stairs)close to subway, pub style restaurants, local shopping. Great neighborhood with quick access to all of the tourist spots through public transit. Can actually see the Eifel Tower from the upstairs windows!!Great deal for the price in Paris.

An excellent place to stay for a short time. Rooms are tiny, especially for "larger, economy sized" people. Everyone was pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Room #1 is especially teensy and neither my partner nor I could use the bathroom and close the door! The staff immediately moved us to a "larger" room. All in all it was fun and we stayed there twice and will probably return. They remember us. We think they are very honest and fair. Close to metro and some interesting places. Considering the size of the rooms I think they could be less.

The Ermatage was a great place to stay in Paris, especially for the price. The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood. The hotel itself is quiet. Since the hotel is small- 4 rooms per floor - guests walking up to their upper floor rooms late at night are a little noisy. The neighborhood is great. Rue des Pyanees is a wonderful shopping street. After sight-seeing it was fun to stop in the local cheese shop, bakery, wine shop, fresh produce shop, etc. and pick up a light dinner to eat in the hotel. We had a couple meals at the Zepher Restaurant near the Jourdain Metro Shop had wonderful food and great service.

We chose this hotel as the price was good but most important it was described as being approximately 2 kms from Charles de Gaulle airport and this was very important to us as we had a very early flight. It was, in fact, 35 kms from CdG airport and it cost us 42.80 Euros in taxi fare. The hotel was in a side street and not very inviting to look at,the route was said to be very busy in the morning and we also had to pass through a street market, which was on most days, we were told! We refused to stay at the hotel because of the distance and we told by the proprietor that we had to pay, we refused as we said we had been misled, we eventually paid approximately half of the room cost,24 euros, as this was all the change we had on us. It was distressing for us as we then had to find another hotel for the night as near to the airport as possible, we also had to pay for another taxi fare. It was more awkward for us as, although we live in SW France, we only speak a little French. I saw the room before we left and it was not very desirable. Regards, George Witham
