Nice but basic excellent for the price The hotel is very nice and very clean. Service is good and breakfast is also good (worth €5 at least). Location is good, 2 walk minutes from Metro and 15 minutes to The Louvre.

Not Impressed Here is the good news, the bed was fairly comfortable. Now here is the rest: sewer gas smell in the bathroom all the time; same candy wrapper on the stairs the entire week; the lobby was thick with cigarette smoke; and we heard every door slam and every footstep on the circular stairway of every guest. Learn some French becasue the front desk woman will not speak to you in English.

Good for budget breaks Buy some bread, cheese, meat or fish, and salad veg from the shops on the same street as the hotel for a bargain meal/picnic if you're tight on money

Good location Walkable distance to Sacre Coeur, Moulin Rouge, and Metro in Notre Dame de Lorette. In midst of good commerical and residential area. Out the door can find sandwiches, bread, cheese, meat stores, plus groceries, clothing stores, pharmacies, and cafes/ restaurants at street level and residences above stores, not just tourist area. Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay Walk around the neighborhood. Montmartre has a lot to offer. There is always a surprise around the next corner.

Excellent value. Nothing fancy, but a good value for the money in Paris’ hyper-expensive lodging This hotel is a good value for a relatively modest price. It’s clean, the beds are decent, and the staff is helpful. The middle-aged desk lady working weekends is a bit of a character, and her limited English makes communication difficult. But the two ladies working during the week, as well as the maid, were very helpful in many ways, and their English is very good. The complimentary breakfast was great, and saved significant cash in a city where every meal for four seems to cost at least 40 Euros. The elevator is very small, but adequate for moving one person and their luggage at a time. The street noise was surprising, up until at least 1:00 a.m. most nights, but I think that’s a function of having a window overlooking any street in Paris. The location is great, both in terms of getting to local attractinos and access to the Metro. There are lots of great, moderately priced (for Paris) restaurants in the immediate area. The only true negative that we could come up with: the internet service to the computer in the lobby was down more than it was up. This turned out to be a blessing in terms of getting away from work, but was a bit of challenge when it came time to book airplane seats on line or check out local attractions. All in all, a very positive experience and a good chance for our family to remember what it was like when each of us did not have their own bathroom, bedroom, closet, etc. We would definitely stay there again. Traveler's tip We walked from Gare de Nord, and I would not recommend that to anyone. It’s a further than it looks on a map. Take the time at Gare de Nord to figure how to get to the hotel. The easiest station to find from the hotel, Notre Dame de-Lorrett, is a few short blocks from the Clauzel.

Cheap and Cheerful Hotel a bit run down with very small rooms however staff friendly. Breakfast basic but nice. Handy for the metro. Hotel is classed as being in the red light district however we found it safe at night and had no trouble. Would recommend to anyone on a budget wanting to explore paris
