This was the hotel I stayed at on my 1st trip to Paris and while I had to walk to get to the subway so I could see everything, I still got to do EVERYTHING I wanted without killing my pocketbook on a hotel. I've been to Paris many times since and stayed at 5-Star luxury hotels but always kept a fond memory of this hotel. It is a good, safe hotel with reliable service. It's only downfall is the walk to the subway, but the fresh fruit stands along the way made it an enjoyable experience with REAL french culture, not just TOURIST french culture.

The first time I stayed at the Holiday Inn Bastille was back in 1995 when it was known as the Paris-Lyon-Palace Hotel. With over a dozen trips to France between 1995 and 2000, I spent several dozen nights there. My business partners and I relished the charm offered by this absolutely classic facility. Granted, when we started staying here it was before the renovation that modernized the facility. To be quite honest, I liked the old hotel better but today’s travelers expect modern fixtures, lights, television, etc.

I had a prepaid Travelocity room booked here for two nights. Despite the fact that it was completely prepaid, the hotel charged my credit card anyways for two nights without my permission or knowledge. BEWARE.

When I booked this hotel, I only thought of the locations...but I never thought it would be that bad...when I arrived at the hotel around noon, our rooms were not ready until 3 p.m. The customer services were sooo rude and not frindly at all to international visitors...and the worse of all, is the hotel and the room...in the website, it says that it's newly renovated...the room was smilly and not clean at all...bath rooms stinks and we try to ask for a different room, but no help at all...we had to look for a different hotel the next day...it was the worse hotel i ever been to....my adivse, avoid visiting there....

I recently stayed here on a pre-purchased package that included air & hotel. Upon checkout, the hotel staff insisted that they are not paid by the site I had purchased this package from (A well known travel site) and I was not allowed to leave until I paid them in full. They were later sent proof of earlier payment but have never credited me back the $549 Euro that I was double-charged! I doubt I'm the first this has happened to.

The hotel was ok for it's price, but one thing I think is really important to remind is that while I was staying in that hotel last summer somebody of the staff(room cleaning) stole a 500 euro bill from my safe box. The second day I stayed there I went to eat breakfast outside the hotel in a nearby restaurant and I commited the mistake of leaving the safe keys in my bag inside the room, when I came back I started to count my money in the safe and realize that a 500 euro bill was missing, along with some money of my countries currency. I complained about it in the lobby but the staff told me the cleaning ladies were very nice people and that they could trust them, but the thing is that the fact that someone searched my bags to see if I had commited the mistake of leaving the safe keys inside did happen, and that they stole my money also happened, a shameful story about this hotel, and I will never go back to it and hope that after you read this review think about staying in it twice at least

Arrived at the hotel just before noon and our room was available for check-in. We found out very quickly why this hotel had an internet special rate as the restaurant/bar were close for renovations, except for breakfast. The buffet breakfast was 16 Euro per person. The staff was very friendly. We had reserved a king bed in the room. When we got to the room, we found out that it was two twins pushed together. The staff said that they would have housekeeping make the beds up as one large bed, but that never occurred during our stay. The hotel was very clean, staff was very friendly and location was OK - not much to see near the hotel, but the train station was only two blocks away.

After reading the other reviews I decided to post my own. I thought that the service was very good and I had none of the problems that the others had. Of course you have to be very careful with valuables and kept them on ourselves at all times. The best thing was the location for me. You can get on a bus at the airport (Line 4 Les Cars Air France) which took us right to the Gare de Lyon - one block away) The metro station is next to the train station with access in several directions. We also took the train to Nice so it was a quick walk to the station from the hotel with luggage - very convenient. The breakfast at the hotel was buffet style and very hardy with eggs, sausage, bacon, crossants, fruit, juice, coffee, and much more. I did not need any lunch hardly after a good breakfast. The staff could not be better - anything we requested they helped us with - travel tour arrangements, dinner reservations, directions and all. The concierge was Moustafa at the time and he was great with his help. Everyone could speak English - a big plus for us. We stayed there about 10 days over the course of 3 weeks last August. Loved the rooms. One room had a "telephone" shower but the other had a regular shower. I would stay there again in a minute if I ever go back to Paris and I recommend it to all my friends.
