The interior of the hotel was perfect: warm, gently decorated with french antiquities. The breakfast was gorgeous. And the staff very helpfull. I recommand it!

Very Basic The hotel is a small boutique style place. The rooms are restored old building, the original wooden beeems are visible. The rooms are small (typically French). The drain was backed up in the shower and sink. No minibar, or possibility of getting a drink at night. Staff were friendly. Breakfest was OK. All in all its reasonable value for money.

The hotel made a worn down impression. The rooms are only accessible through steep chairs and narrow corridors, no elevator. My room had an unpleasant smell. No shampoo in the bathroom, no place to put the soap in the shower, no remote control for the TV. All in all at the lower end of a ** hotel. The low Venere price compensated somewhat, but even so I would have difficulties to recommend the hotel for business or leisure stay.

We stayed at the room No.1. This room was not so clean nor spacious. And we stayed at the room No.14 about 1 week after at the same price. We found No.14 very clean and spacious. The difference between these two is big enough.

Quiet disappointed about the rooms: They are clean, but they need to be refurbished. The carpets are old, the wall paper is very old and sometimes blurry. I couldnt open the wardrobe, the articulation has been pulled out. And in the bathroom, some of the tiles have been broken off. But the employees are very nice and helpful, and the breakfast is much more better than the rooms, with Müsli, cheese, bread croissants and so on.

The room itself was in need of refurbishment. There was a large hole in the corner of the floor, where some pipework entered the room. The bathroom was rather basic and the carpet was rather grubby. Still, the room only cost 55 Euro per night, so I don't know what I was expecting, perhaps something rather cleaner and more comfortable.

When all is said and done, this place is a Dump. I am an experienced European traveler. Unlike most Americans, I don’t expect large, magnificent, quiet rooms. I had read various reviews about Hotel Exxelmans, and despite my reluctance, I decided to give it a try. At times, the place seemed "borderline," that is, somewhat clean, somewhatt quiet, and a good value. However, when all is said and done, the hotel was too shaby to feel comfortable, and must officially be deemed a "dump." The hallways are dark and goomy, the plaster on some of the walls is peeling off, and the place needs a good paint job. The rugs are worn out and the furniture is shabby. Perhaps the worst thing is its location. It is near the end of the Metro line, and quite a distance from Paris’ main attractions. Although the staff is friendly, it’s a litle too dumpy, even for my "easy to please" tastes.
