Altona Hotel Paris
166 Rue Faubourg Poissonniere - 75010 Paris
Calm, basic 2 star hotel in a turn-of-the-century Haussman-esque building, offering well-maintained facilities, a quiet location and convenient access to the whole of Paris. Hotel Altona's rooms are simplly decorated and equipped with en suite bathrooms plus satellite TV.The neighbourhood is a typical Parisian residential area, in between Gare de L'Est and Gare du Nord, ideal for exploring Montmartre and visiting the Sacré Coeur, and finely placed for checking out the Ile de la Cité the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou, all less than 15 minutes away by public transport.Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur are also just 10 minutes on foot. For traveling further afield, RER regional train services run from the 2 main stations, perfect if you fancy a trip to Eurodisney, the charming village of Fontainebleau or the remarkable Chateau de Versailles, one-time residence of the French royalty and an architectural wonder. The city's airports and a host of other destinations outside Paris are all well served. Calm and convenience, and a friendly, helpful atmosphere.

I would like to warn the future guest of the hotel that when we came to Altona to check in we were told that there no rooms available in this hotel and the receptionist began to search any available rooms in the nearest places. As a result we lived in the hotel of the lowest category in the next street! To say that it was horrible - just say nothing! Only negative emotions about the whole situation. So please be ready for such situation when you will order this hote.

Room small and dirty, one single bed collapsed on use, bathroom appalling with shower leaking directly on to the floor, towels small and in bad condition, terrible front desk service, lousy breakfast selection;in all the worst experience of a 3 week, 3 country and six city stay.

Appealing family-run B&B, convenient for Gare du Nord and Eurostar terminus but somewhat distant from main sights and tourist zone.Decorative 6-storey building (19th century/1930) with bakery at street level. Some rooms with balcony.Welcoming and provincial. Bright and spacious lobby with small lounge area. Cheerful breakfast room. No restaurant.

We arrived at Hotel Altona in late afternoon and found that they had sold out all rooms. We had walked 20 blocks from the Metro station and were exhausted from traveling all day. The desk clerk did call another hotel about 5 blocks away and arranged for a room for us there at Hotel Champagne. It was a RATHOLE! The maid picked up towells on the hall floor and gave them to as when we found that there were none in the room, there was unidentified streams of dried gunk on the walls and the room had no place to set luggage down. It overlooked nearby roofs with garbage on them and it smelled like an ashtray. We were so tired, we spent the night there anyway, but what a disappointment for our last night on a great trip. I would like to think that the original hotel we booked would have been better than the one we ended up in. Since we did not stay there, we filled in the above questionaire to the best of our ability without seeing a room. Regards, Bob & Gini Read

The room was dirty. The toilet seat was barely attached to the toilet. The key would not open the room door. Very little water came out of the shower head because the hose was ruptured. The man on the desk when I checked in was not helpfull but the man on duty the next morning was a vast improvement. All and all a pretty dismal place.

When I arrived at this hotel, even with a confirmed reservation, the owner mentioned the paper was for nothing. My friends stayed there, the reason for choosing this hotel. My friends had a room with no electricity (but there was much more…); they had to change to a new one (which was not cleaned from prior using). My friends have even a pretty much longer disaster story to tell on this as long as a book. The room they stayed before was occupied same night later also without cleaning. The bath was pretty much dirty as well and a 5 minutes shower would cause a flooding. The owner is weird. I would not recommend this hotel even if they paid me to stay in. I pretty much recommend venere to take this hotel out of the list. As I will give a second try on venere.com if the next time I get such experience again I will start a campaign to stop to use this site as well. Thanks.

The hotel is very close to Barbe Rochechouart metro (not Republique, as it says on the website!), close to Montmartre for an evening out and only a 10-minute walk from Gare du Nord. Our triple room was OK - clean but rather small. The ensuite shower/loo had been recently re-furbished. The staff were helpful, letting us use the Internet to confirm our flights back to the UK. Breakfast was OK but the coffee could have been much better. We had a room at the back, which was noisy in the morning. Good value in a convenient location.
