My partner and I stayed at the Hotel du Beaune for 3 nights in Feb 08 and were very impressed. We wanted somewhere cheap and cheerful as we knew we would be out and about most of the time and really just needed somewhere to sleep. If that is what you are looking for this hotel is pretty much ideal. The reception staff couldn't be more helpful - very pleasant and welcoming when we checked in and asking us every morning if everything was Ok and had we slept well. Our request for extra pillows was dealt with immediately (always a very good indicator of standards in my experience!) The decor in the room was looking a little tired and ready for renovating, but the room was comfortable, with a double bed and a table & 2 chairs. The bathroom was quite small, but clean, with a shower (not a bath) and plenty of hot water! The room was a little dark, as there were only 2 bedside lamps and no ceiling light, but the nice big window let in enough light during the day for it not to be a problem. I can't comment on the breakfast, as we opted for room only and found some wonderful cafes very close to the hotel to have breakfasts. The hotel is easily within walking distance of lots of attractions, public transport and lots of lovely little cafes and restaurants, and the area feels very safe when walking back to the hotel at night (most of the surrounding shops are antique furniture / art shops so not a busy area after dark). If you are looking for 5* luxury then this is not the hotel for you, but if you want somewhere to sleep, wash and change in between seeing the sights then I would definitely recommend that you give this place a try. (I would agree with other reviews about the lift though - barely big enough for two of us and our hand luggage - good job we didnt have suitcases!) Worth taking the stairs if you can manage them - really pretty old spiral staircase!

The seedier side of Paris! We booked two nights but only stayed one - the room had a 'quirky charm' if you like threadbare, grubby and dusty. It felt like we might find Miss Havisham rotting in the cupboard. I could imagine that in the 1920s it was very elegant and chic, now it is not even shabby chic. It's just shabby. What a shame - the location is perfect and the price is great. It just put me off that the reception looks like a brothel and the room looked like a junk shop.

We stayed at this hotel in june 2007 for 6nights in the beginning of our trip and 2 nights in the end. Between these staying we have spent a week in Biarritz. We've made reservation by internet, but in the sequel we had some problems with that. Because we are citizens of Russia we need the official invitation from the hotel by fax for obtaining visa. The manager of the hotel had told us that if we need the invitation we have to pay more in avance and he had refused to take money from our credit card. We had to transfer money by Western Union? it wasn't very comfortable for us. But I think that only russian tourists have such problem, because the Europeans don't need visa. When we arrived at the hotel the first impression was that it's a brothel because of red decorations, red curtains and lamps. It's very original and interesting. The elevator is very small. It can get only two persons or one person and a suitecase. And it's also decorated by red material. The first stay was better, because of the room, it overlooked the street. It was nice. But the room number 115 is not very good. One bed is broken and atilt. So when sleeping you are always roll down on the very brink. And also bad water drain in the sink. All the same we liked this hotel. The location is exellent. It was very easy to get to all places we wanted with minimum changes to another line in metro, because we could choose between 3 stations through the neighbourhood. The night receptionists were very friendly. Our stay was exellent, but not enough to see everything we planned. It will be a nice reason to come here again and to stay at this hotel.

We chose this hotel for its location. The neighborhood it was in was amazing! However, the place was a bit strange. It was tiny tiny tiny! The beds were like camping cots. It wasn't very clean. And unfortunately we ended up arguing about the price with the reception man because we booked a different cost online. Next time I go back I'll find another hotel in the area and just have to pay a little bit more.

We have just got back from a long weekend in Paris, was a brilliant weekend away and we're just glad that we did not have to spend too much time in the hotel. It was the strangest hotel I have ever been in. The lift felt like a coffin and was all lined in dark red fabric. The room was very small, and again lined with dark fabric which was bobbling and peeling off the walls. The view was of a wall. The bath was tiny, with an overhead shower, but it was difficult to stand in it as the base of the bath was all shaped. On the upside, it was all clean, which is really all that matters. The lady at the desk spoke good english and was very helpful. The best thing is that the hotel is only a minutes stroll from the banks of the Seine and the Pont Royal, so just opposite the Louvre, and really near to everything you could want. Even though it was really quite grim I would still recommend people stay here as the location was brilliant and made getting around so easy. At least if you know what to expect you won't be disappointed.

The location is great, the staff is nice. But: - I'd give only a C to their cleanliness (bedspread smelled bad - I kept it on the floor) - I had no telephone during my 8 nights (manager is sweet, but she doesn't tell the truth all the time...) - no breaks in the price charged after all the time with no telephone! - sink was clogged, nothing was done about it - room was nice sized, but had very little lighting at night - way too dark - no luck getting an extra lamp either - i don't think it has air conditioning; i'm glad it was not hot - my shower was broken and nothing was done about it either What was good? Location, location, location! And yes, the staff is nice, as I said. Room size is good, bathroom size is great (even though it is DARK)

We were made to feel so welcomed here that we extended our stay an extra 2 nights. It was so close to many attractions in Paris and it was a very clean hotel compared to many that we stayed in Paris. Reception were helpful and made our stay very enjoyable with all the extra city tips we were given. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a 'different' hotel experience and we are certainly booking this hotel for our next Paris holiday in 2008! Value for money A+++++++++++

We booked a double room at this cheap hotel, thinking that we didn't really need a 5* hotel as we wanted to spend time out in Paris and not in the hotel room. I know this is a 2* hotel, and you get what you pay for - but during our stay at Abotel De Beaune we got a little MORE than we paid for - bed bugs! We went for an afternoon nap when we got there, and when we woke up an hour or so later, we had bed bugs crawling ALL OVER the bed, the pillows, the cover and US! We had bites all over - disgusting!! It completely ruined our stay as we couldn't stop thinking about the gross bugs crawling all over us! We told the receptionist who was very apologetic, but strangely enough didn't seem surprised with our complaints - had she had similar complaints before? Apparently they "check all beds before they buy them" - does this mean that they buy their beds 2nd hand?? To be fair, they did book us in at another 2* hotel around the corner, which also was a bit shabby (no bed bugs though!), but we had had enough and got a room at Great Western instead - lovely big comfy bed, air conditioning, and a fab bathroom with a nice big bath for €120. Abotel De Beaune / Hotel De Beaune was just ridiculous - avoid this hotel at all costs!!

Well were should i start. We arrived in paris which was fine, we had a bit of a trek to get from the airport to our hotel but we thought we would give it ago. We went to get a train ticket, which we had to queue up for about 20 mins, when we got to the front of the queue and found out the machine doesn't take Euro notes. What a waste of time, we then had another 30 mins to queue at the counter. The train was really easy to use we thought, and had no problems at all. You also see some of the country why you are on the 30 minute ride. When we arrived at the hotel, it had one small window. When we opened the door it was nothing i ever imagined. The walls were covered in a deep red carpet like material and there was 2 chairs. We could just make out a small room at the back but wasn't sure. We arrived at 11.00am on a very sunny morning. We had arrived early hoping to check in, no such luck. We was met by the owner who was ok and told us to come back in two hours, we could leave the case, thank god it had a very big lock on it. When we arrived back we checked in and was told our room was ready, we went to the lift. When i opened the door i couldn't believe it, we could just squeeze in with our 1 suit case. Thank god this lift didn't break down, I dont know how we would have been rescued. On arriving at the room we opened the door and was met by the most strangest smell. The room was on a slant, and the bed was nearly on the floor. It was clean but THAT WAS IT. We did stay the three nights and all was ok, no problems with security and anexcellent location. We never saw one other person staying at this hotel and I'm glad. Every time we left or returned we thought we were part of the Moulon Rouge. Very Seedy Impression given. For the price that we paid, it was a bed to sleep on that is it. We will return to Paris again and in the same area but Never, Never to this hotel.

Horrible dark dingy hotel that desperately needs a make over. On my first night in this hotel I was bitten all over my legs, arms and face by bed bugs. Disgusting. I complained and we were moved but the second room did not inspire confidence so I slept on top of the bed, rather than in it. Bed bugs might be an occurrence in hostels but never in two star hotels!
