With its great location and lovely architecture one would think Casa Marcello the perfect place to stay in Prague. But having friendly, helpful staff is the heart of running a good hotel, and of providing a positive experience for guests. Sadly, Casa Marcello falls way short of the mark. Front desk staff are extremely rude and argumentative with guests. Most rooms are very plain and disappointing after seeing photos on websites. And don't think of asking for another room. Breakfast buffets were adequate, but serving staff were absent. If one waiter doesn't show up for work, the restaurant and terrace cafe shut down for the day and evening. This is very disappointing for those wishing a drink or coffee after a busy day of sightseeing. Cleanliness was acceptable, but not what one would expect of a 4 - star property.

My primary criticism is that the hotel needs an elevator. We were on the 3rd floor (4th by US terminology) and we had to lug our, unfortunately too heavy, bags upstairs ourselves. On the other hand, we had a suite with more room than we needed. The hot

While it could have been a nice stay at this modest hotel, the fact that carpeting, drapes and fabric covered furniture have not been replaced since the days when smoking was allowed made my visit very uncomfortable. Anyone with allergies to smoke...

After reading travel guides and web reviews, I was sure we had picked a winner, hence the great disappointment.

I would highly recommend this hotel. My fiance and I traveled through Belgium, Czech Repuplic, Germany and France at the end of 2008 and this was one of our favorite hotels.
