A mixed bag. The service was impeccable, most of the time. The room was nice and large. It was not new, but in good condition and kept clean. The breakfast quality was not brilliant, with several items having an insipid taste. The hotel has a policy of "continuous" renewal, implying that renovation work goes on permanently, albeit on a small scale. This includes week-ends and can seriously interfere with the notion of an afternoon nap when on vacation. I had one odd experience: I was called at 9:13 am, the morning after check in, by a fellow who promised low-cost vacations that were not a timeshare. I met with him (for oven an hour) and he explained the Tai Pan Travel Club. For a modest fee (close to 10,000 USD) one can become a member. I declined. I had one unpleasant experience. On checkout, I was told that I owed for a beer taken from the Minibar. I did not take any beer (or any other paying items) from the Minibar. The odd thing was that the staff insisted I pay, going as far as to suggest that my companion may have taken the beer "behind my back" and asking to speak with her. Great finesse. They finally refunded the amount with an apology. Nothing like leaving irritated and on a bad note. For this, I must blame the Hotel on being unable to manage its staff and having poor customer relation skills.

i stayed here for four nights and it was an enjoyable stay. The staff are friendly and very professional. the rooms are clean and big. The location is excellent for the skytrain as its only five minutes walk away. The drinking and go go bar area of soi cowboy is very near, but if you do not want to visit this street you can just walk past it without venturing in. I read elsewhere that a traveller got sick after eating the breakfast we did too. but its hard to say if it was the breafast or somethingelse we ate (ill avoid the eggs next time to be on the safeside). The pool is ok and the gym seems to be in good condition. This hotel is good value and will stay again, its cheaper to book through asiarooms than the walk in rate.

Before I made my reservations, a personal friend who lives in Bangkok asked the hotel management if I would be charged for a guest to visit me in my room and if my guest would be required to register. Management said "No" to each question. After checking into the hotel, my guest was required to register and I had to pay the hotel for her to visit me in my room; (this was never required at other nice hotels where I have stayed in Thailand.) At 10:30 A.M. we went to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant; we returned at 11:30 A.M. and we attempted to go to my room to get her purse. I was told by hotel personnel that I would have to pay AGAIN if she went to my room to get her purse! Checkout time was 12 noon; during the previous night I had paid the extra fee for her to stay in my room. There was still 30 more minutes until her checkout time; I was booked in the hotel for 8 more days and night. I checked out of the Tai Pan Hotel as soon as I could get a room at my favorite hotel on Soi 4. When I made reservations for the Tai Pan I requested a non smoking room with a king or queen size bed. When I checked in I was given a room with 2 small beds; I was charged extra when I moved to a room with a large bed. The bathtub/shower was very small and extremely slick in the bottom. I had to be extremely careful when getting in or out of the shower and when I was standing in the shower/tub. The other hotels where I stay in Thailand have a large walkin shower that does not present a slip-hazard. The Tai Pan does not allow guests to sit downstairs at the Hotel bar and drink after the other bars in Bankok have closed. The other hotels where I have stayed in Bangkok allow hotel guests to sit at the hotel bar and drink at any time of the day or night. The hotel restaurant has a limited menu late at night and room service only. This is not the case at other Bangkok hotels. I put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the outside door handle to my room. Hotel personnel went into my room when I was gone-- they also turned off the air conditioning without my permission and it was HOT in my room when I came back from a long hot walk. I have never stayed in a hotel where hotel personnel would go into my room when the "Do Not Disturb" sign is displayed on the outside door knob ! The Tai Pan Hotel cost much more than comparable rooms at my favorite hotel on Soi 4. I will never again stay at the Tai Pan Hotel and I do not recommend it to anyone.

We were a family with 2 young boys and the room size was well big enough. We needed a baby sitter and the hotel were great and recommended one of their cleaners who was just great and charged at a fair rate. The travel agent in the hotel was also excellent and we booked this fantastic live play called 'Siam Niramit' which included a buffet meal before. It was one of the high lights of Bangkok. Breakfast was good and the staff were also there to assist for anything. I think to use a computer for internet was at a charge but i was on holidays and didn't need to use. Would reccommend this hotel.

Excellent mid range hotel, with friendly and professional staff. The continental buffet breakfast was great. Excellent value for money hotel and close to sky-train (10-15 minute walk). On the sixth floor, there is located the Thai massage facilities, fantastic value and truly a relaxing experience. This is the second time we have stayed here and would stay again the next time we visit Bangkok.

Excellant position, away from Sukhumvit's noise, but only a few minutes walk to the sky train & the underground. Best buffet breakfast for the inclusive price in Bangkok. Friendly staff, comfortable sized rooms, bathrooms a little bit "tired". Stayed there about 15 times this year and about to book again.
