Our room 1919 has a stunning view over the Chao Phraya River.Watching the barge boats, ferries and large carriers all hassling for room on the already polluted river is amazing. Our room is absolutely spaciously decorated in fine furniture with all amenities .

Stayed at the Shangri-la Bangkok immediately upon my arrival in Thailand. The service at this hotel was excellent. Most of the service personnel in Thailand were extremely polite and helpful, and the Shangri-La was no exception. Check in was a breeze, after which we were escorted up to our room by a member of the staff from the front desk. I felt a bit guilty because she insisted on carrying a heavy travelpack up for me, even though i'm 5'7" and she was about six inches shorter and many pounds lighter. We arrived in the afternoon and decided to take the Horizon dinner cruise offered by the hotel. You had the choice of sitting on the deck or down below in an air conditioned area. We chose to sit below, however, found that it was a bit chilly. The food I would say was average. It was termed "international buffet" which meant american style dishes and thai dishes. The buffet was not extensive, nor was it particularly remarkable. However, it was the night cruise that we were interested in. It really was beautiful, and gave us a good overview of Bangkok on our first night before we dove into the sightseeing. It seemed that many hotels and restaurants along the river offered dinner cruises, and I would have actually preferred to take one which served only thai dishes. However, this one was extremely convenient. We also ate at the Coffee Garden for breakfast and Salathip for dinner, both of which served excellent food. I was especially impressed with the buffet at the Coffee Garden. It served perfectly prepared Japanese, Thai, and American style breakfasts foods and was very extensive, all for $15 US. They even had bagels and lox with the fixings (red onion, capers). Salathip served thai cuisine and was only open for dinner. They had a couple prix fixe menus which we tried. Very good. We actually liked the hotel and the price so much that we ended up booking a stay there for the end of our trip, before our flight back to the states. Both of our rooms were well appointed with the beds, a love seat, coffee table, dresser, dressing table and desk. The furnishings, linens and carpet were fairly new, as were all the towels. There was an in room safe, wet bar and coffee with coffee maker. Both rooms had a beautiful view of the pool, river beyond, and city beyond that. We especially liked the lot across from the hotel on the other side of the river where we could watch three elephants graze for food all day long. The hotel provided nightly turn down and a myriad of other services. The common areas of the hotel were beautifully decorated. Upon suggestion by the front desk clerk during our first stay, I signed up for the frequent guest program for free. Upon our return, we were treated to in room check in (an assistant led us immediately up to our rooms and checked us in there), free breakfast buffet every morning, and a free thai massage in their spa. Overall, I would stay here again. Many people prefer newer hotels like the Oriental or the Peninsula, but the Shangri-La is great and the price is extremely good. A hotel like this where I live in the US would cost probably $350 to $500 per night. I loved this place!

Great location with bad food Hotel is beautiful with phenomenal location. Close to all modes of transportation including sky train and river taxi. Only shortfall is the food. It is very expensive and terrible. Overall I would recommend it I have stayed there three times before and am going again next month. Traveler's tip on local attractions stay away from food and your stay will be delightful!

Before I forget, the Krung Thep wing is far more opulent than the Shangri-la wing where I stayed. But then again, the price on this side is higher. On top of its more luxurious rooms, there is one big plus factor, though. The entrance of this wing leads guests right at the foot of the stairs of Saphan Taksin station of the Skytrain, so the infamous Bangkok traffic can be hardly felt.

The hotel is situated on the bank of Chaophya river. We can savour our delicious food while we watch the last ray of sun light leaving the sky. Can anyone tell me where to find any place better than this? The hotel has a very luxurious space and it is within the walking distance to the most busiest area in Bangkok. The traffic in this city is a pain but we don't have to worry a bit because the hotel is located next to the Sky train station. We can travel to the main shopping center within 15 leisurely minutes. The price is very competitive and worth every dollar for the comfort that we can receive.

Excellent service and rooms, especially the new CHI Spa. This is one of the best hotel and best staying experiences that I ever had!
