Arrived on 3rd Oct, given room on top floor. On exiting the lift, very strong unpleasent smell of smoking hit us in the throat, including our Thai friend who had to instantly use her inhaler, teacher at the Royal Palace School. The hall carpets were heavily stained and smelly. The room offered was so dark and smelly, we went down to reception and requested a more pleasent room for our stay. At first they said that was what I had paid for, but it was NOT the picture on the hotel website, with this we were offered another room on the next floor down.On exiting the lift, this floor had a nice smell,BUT, carpets were heavily stained. Our new room was OK, with a nice view of the river. Riverside Hotel is in a very sad state , heavily stained walls and ceilings in reception and restaurant area, not very nice when you are having to eat there. Furniture in seating area at reception water stained , which I sat on by mistake, water coming through the ceiling onto them. Wanted to take some hot water to my room, after speaking to three members of staff, I was told they did not have a jug to put it in, so I had to go without. This hotel needs urgent repairs to make it a nice place for tourists to stay as it is looking very sorry for itself. If we had not been offered a better room, I think we would have gone elsewhere at extra expence to ourselves. We did not get the best service we expect in Bangkok hotels, but we will be back next year to see "Amazing Thailand " Regards, Christine Buckingham, England.

Good value for money, especially for the budget traveller. Vey easy access to the express River boat, which for me was important. Would recommend it.

Another pleasant experience booking through Asiarooms. Stayed five nights at River Side Bangkok and would definitely stay there again if visiting Bangkok. Location is this hotel’s greatest advantage. Apart from travelling from and back to the airport by taxi, the only transport we used in Bangkok was river taxis, the city rail system accessed from Central Pier, and our feet. We were able to visit everywhere we wanted to go. A licensed 7/11 store down on the corner and street food stalls nearby allowed a choice between the hotel’s facilities with dinner cruises and delicious and cheap Thai favourites. Read Colin Brettell's comments(May 2007) for a full, honest and complimentary review of the hotel. My only criticism of the hotel was our being allocated a Superior rather than the paid for Deluxe Room. Because we were quite tired on arrival and were given an early check-in, I didn’t insist on a change. The Superior Room on the eighth floor was more than adequate with a small balcony and river view and next time I would probably just book that and spend some of the difference on street food and cold Chang Beer(long necks are 38 Baht @ the 7/11) and pocket the change. Particulary pleasant with great location on Chao Prayo river with great views and at river taxi stop. Rooms lovely and clean as well as spacious. Previously stayed in city centre but would rather stay at Riverside again next time.

I recommend the hotel for everybody who speaks Thai. There is only 1 person at the reception who speaks English and can help. The hotel is realy nice and well equiped, the rate fantastic. Withe some taxi driver we had problems because the hotel is not located in the city center. Some taxi driver do not want to drive outside the city center.

It was a great surprise to find out how good it was. the riverside area was great and sitting outside to dine was great. It was inexpensive and had a gereat feel to the place. While it is a little further from the city we would choose to stay there rather than in the more tourist areas.

I would never stay here again. No one spoke english and it was way too far away from the city. Staying here was an unpleasant experience.
