Not impressed We stay often in Best Western because it is typically a clean room with good service. This was a nice place but needed to be worked on badly. The showers had mold and the rooms were not that updated. Rooms smelled old and musty and the a/c did not work that well so when you entered the room you would smell it badly. The staff was not nearly as nice as staff we met at other places in Thailand. Was not up to Best Western standards. Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay Karon beach is an awesome place but rent a car and drive around because the other beaches are nice to visit as well. Have to speand at least 3 days if not more. We spent 6 in Phuket and was worth it. Loved it!

Don’t expect US comforts The place is affordable and frequented by lots of European backpackers. Basic rooms have simple beds, a TV, bathroom (shower), balcony, A/C, and a fridge. The bathroom is pretty old and junky, but functional. Don’t expect some of the comforts of a nice, fresh US hotel. If you remember that you are in a poor country, this hotel is very good and well priced. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful and around all the time. Their Englihs is not bad. The breakfast buffet (included) is also excellent and has an omelette bar and plenty of fruit and fruit juice. There is also internet you can buy in the hotel, but again, outside is cheaper, though less convenient. Hotel is located in Banglamphu which is a cool part of town. It’s about 40 minutes from the airport. The hotel is surrounded by tin-roofed shacks and small stores, but it is lively and not dangerous. A few roads down is a street for foreigners where there are lots of Western food. Location-wise, if you are not coming from the airport, many taxis will not know this hotel and will not take you. We were at JJ Market and it took 5 taxis before we found one. Keep a hotel brochure with you, but also tell them that the hotel is in Banglamphu and they will know. Hotel is not far from the tourist sites, but is far from the embassies. Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks Tours offered at the hotel are expensive (they are paid commission). Look elsewhere to get a better price. Tuk tuk (motorbikes) are cheaper than taxis, but the car exhaust on the street may bother you. Always use the METER for TAXIS. They overcharge if you ask for a quote, so insist on using the meter. Every taxi has one.

Good value This hotel had very convenient location, pro- vided excellent services & extensive breakfast buffet. We certainly got more than what we paid for. There was refregerator, safe in the room, 2 bottles of drinking water/day, direct dial tele-phone, self controled air conditioner. We’d call it basical-ly adequite, but nothing luxury, surely not a 3 star. We didn’t like its sur-rounding when we arrived at night, but learned the next day that it was "typical" of Bangkok.

Very happy with our stay at the New World Lodge. Our room (412) was very clean and comfortable. The beds were great! The hotel is not on the main road, it's down a side street and taxi drivers do seem to have a problem find it (so make sure you take a hotel card so you can get back). Walking distance to Khao San Rd, and even better Rambuttri Street (I highly recommend going here for beers). Internet access is pricey. The breakfast is basic, with mostly Asian food, but there's toast & coffee if you don't want Asian.

Very nice hotel A nice, clean tidy hotel. Very nice staff. Good restaurant, but they dont serve alchol. They offer a proper Thai massage which is safe and worth a try. No swimming pool. Close to shops and bars. Easy to find for cab drivers. Area looks a little rough at first, but this is a typical Bangkok street.

The bathroom needed to be renovated and cleanliness of the room was not good. the bed and bath linen were very worn and grey rather than white. The staff were very effiicient and friendly but did not make up for the hotel's shortcomings.
