The Perak Hotel was just what I was looking for in Singapore - clean, friendly, a little bit of old Singapore ambience. The hotel is somewhere between basic backpacker fare and overpriced expense account hotels. That said, it is still expensive by ...

Small but adequate room, with a generous breakfast fare that was, like the hotel, simple, but more than adequate. After a few initial errors with the wireless network I finally got it working quite well. Air conditining was very good quieter then some I've seen. The ambient in Little India is a bit noisy, but at night it was reasonably quiet. Staff was very good and helpful. For the price and location it would be hard to do better than here though there are other more gracious hotels close by. I think I will return here my next trip to Singapore.

I must say I was extremely surprised. I loved the character of the old hotel, the location and the friendliness of the staff. I've seen people complain about the breakfast but I didn't use it. Instead I went around the corner to Tekka Market for roti, curry and tea. Much nicer! If you expect 5 star then don't stay here. If you enjoy the old world charm and service then this is the place for you. I had an internal room with a queen bed, cable, no windows and only a sky light. This was great as it was sound proof (couldn't hear the call to prayer from the mosque around the corner) and was cool. Location wise it's great. Across the road from Sim Lim and Bugis St market, down the block from the MRT and within walking distance of many shopping centres including Mustafa. I was there for a business conference and all in all it was excellent value, clean and very curteous staff. I would cetainly stay there again!
