Hotel 81 Orchid
21 Lorong 8 Geylang - 399090 Singapore
The hotel is located in the vibrant Geylang district. Geylang is home to some of the illustrious names of the Singaporean culinary scene, such as the popular beef noodles stall, which can be found at Lorong (?streets' in the Malay language). For the adventurous soul, the durian stalls situated along Sims Avenue are an altogether unique experience. The nearest underground subway station is the Aljunied MRT station, which is a 10-minute walk away. The hotel is ideally situated for business guests: the central business district is a mere 15-minute drive away via the Nicoll Highway. Changi International Airport can be reached within 20 minutes from the hotel.

I liked this place coz it's near the city center and it's very accessible. I enjoyed my stay and i think i saved a lot in choosing this hotel. It's practical for tourists like me(who just use the place to trust my things with coz I'm out almost 20 hours a day!)to stay in such a good place for just SG$48 but still it met all my expectations in cleanliness and services. The alert staff would provide you what you need at once.

I think hotel 81 orchid service has to be improved in future. The facility provided for that price was not fair enough.

As Singapore is an expensive city we were happy to find a hotel that was reasonably priced. However the room was very small, the reception staff were not very well informed about public transport serving the area and we had to go to another hotel for information. It is quite a distance from the city centre and the area seemed to be one of the less desireable areas as there were lots of young women hanging around outside the hotel!!!

I read several previous reviews before going to this hotel and many of them mentioned that it is in the red light district. This didn't matter to me one way or the other, and my wife is an extremely good sport about such things when it means we can save a bit on the hotel, so this is the one we chose. It was reasonable choice, as the room, service, etc was adaquate at a good price, but a warning to all those who read red light district as meaning maybe a few bars, massage parlors, and prostitutes now and then hanging back in the shadows: this place is 100 times more in your face than that! My wife and I had a good laugh as we counted 36 prostitutes standing shoulder to shoulder all across the front of the hotel. There were equal numbers on the other corners--the sheer numbers were pretty amazing to me. We had to ask them to part just to get past them to the hotel entrance, and they were not at all shy to proposition both me and my wife. Interesting place.

I stayed in the Gaylan(?) hotel. It is basic but adequate accommodation. The only wierd thing is that they wanted to charge me to have the telephone, (already in the room), connected so that I could make or receive calls (ok, only S$1). This is the only hotel in the world that I have stayed that has attempted to charge me for using a phone (other than the call costs of course). It is at least 10-15mins walk from the nearlest MTR station and I am a snappy walker! They also tried to round the contribution I had to pay the hotel directly, up to the nearest dollar. Naturally, on both counts I resisted with success. They just tried it on. ok to stay here, just keep your wits about you!

The hotel is perfect for people tight on budget. One cannot expect to get the quality of 150$ when you pay 60$. But all basic requirements are met - the rooms are clean, the location is close to a MRT station, the service is also ok. I read in previous reviews some complains on noise due to the location of the hotel in the middle of the red district. I don't consider it an issue, hearing people step through the corridor twice an hour did not really bother me.

They stand out among the chain of hotels within the vicinity, by location, pricing and courteousness. During our stay at this hotel, we never experience any problem on billing, cleanliness and service. In fact, when I get back to Singapore, I would stay at this hotel again. Facilities is rated good as there are not so much stuff in the hotel itself (and there's no bathtub which I'd been looking for in a hotel). All in all, this hotel deserves once of the highest ratings compared to other hotels in its category.

I stay in this hotel every time I am in Singapore. Why, simply put, location. Close to MRT not too far from City, Not too far from airport. Not recommended for families or single female travellers as it is in the red light district but very safe area to be in, unlike other red light districts in other cities. Just good value for money.
