Early check in & Check out went smoothly, we stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, there was plenty of space but the apartment was dated & lacked cleanliness, burn marks & stains on the carpets everywhere, curtains were torn & dirty, furnishings outdated, bathroom was large but once again not very clean. Lights in various rooms were'nt working & we had to request new batteries for the AC. Towels, Coffee, Tea & sugar were minimal, therefore we had to keep ringing housekeeping for more which became very anoying. Location was OK, good for food stalls at night but not for shopping centres. The pool was clean & big with great views & lots of activities for kids, although food & beverage service was very average. Breakfast (lack of choice) & room service food quality was very poor and we were glad to be going to a better hotel (parkroyal) after a short stay in Georgetown. Staff were friendly & helpful but hotel needs a major overhaul.

The Gurney had been a good hotel with a great pool and recreation area. Breakfast restaurant offers good variety and quality. The staff is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the maintainance has obviously been stopped. I had to change the room 3 times to get one with working aircon, just to discover that the safety box was broken (like in the first room). Curtains with rust water stains (from dripping aircon) and holes, worn-out carpet in the rooms and the corridor, lift doors that closes even that a person is between them, very slow internet connection, faulty light switches came on top. While checking out the hotel tried to charge me for drinks from the mini bar that I never used.

The best descripotion for this hotel is 'tired'. It desperately needs a makeover. Level of cleanliness also fell short of the mark. Staff were friendly and helpful though, and the pool facilities for families are good. Room size is very good. Overall reasonably good valuie if you are not too fussy about paintwork, cigarette burns on carpets, holes in curtains and so on.

The Gurney was great. Walking distance to shops and temples. Clean and affordable. Located in Georgetown - not much of a beach though. You must try the hawker stores that are nearby - the best food in Malaysia!

We were there for 8 days, overall, room size and location and kids pool was good, and front desk staff were friendly. The first 2 days in a room which was full of small cockcroaches in the bathroom and fridge area. Shower bracket was broken, service personnel were slow to respond to requests. The last 6 days, we were moved to another room on the last floor, which was slightly better.

Room is big. Bathtub with Jazcuzzi is a plus point. The Gurney drive hawker center quite a walking distance away, not as close as expected.Overall the hotel is good and in a good surrounding.

We had a very pleasant stay of 3 nights at the Hotel alongside 3 other families. Customer service was very good except for one staff at the coffee shop who looked cross and without smiles 3 days in a row. Housekeeping staff were great and should be commended for their tireless and most polite efforts in meeting the demands of our huge family group. Beautiful swimming pool and very children friendly facilities. The Spa offered a good quality massage for ladies. Only complaint we have is the air conditioning system which can be a little noisy at night and can be a little temperamental with the temperature control. We were all put in rooms or a floor that reeks with a cigarette smell. Would be good if the hotel can have a policy of providing non smoking floors or rooms. We would like to come back again for sure and would recommend our friends, too.
