Informative tours such as those to visit nearby villages and traditional houses are also available. Within the Resort's 30 acres of lush gardens there are 3 swimming pools, including a safe and fun children's pool. Also found here are the 3-par Executive Golf Course, a children's playground and floodlit tennis courts. A wide array of water sports activities is available at the resort. These include windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and cruising, fishing, diving and snorkelling. Private boat rentals and sea excursions can also be arranged. Located in between the 2 wings, the gym's cardiovascular equipments include treadmills, step machines, rowing machines and stationary bicycles. A flat-screen TV can be seen at most stations, including at the aerobics area. Guests may also use sophisticated facilities at the weight lifting area. The separate changing rooms for gents and ladies are fitted with lockers, showers, dressing and grooming areas, saunas, steam rooms, cool plunge pools and warm plunge whirlpools. The Resort has 7 restaurants and bars and 24-hour room service. The Spice Market café is a casual restaurant that offers authentic ethnic cuisines from diverse cultures - Chinese, Indian, Nyonya-Baba, Japanese, Vietnamese and also Western. Located on the ground floor of the Garden Wing, this informal venue is right beside the unique free-form swimming pools under lush rainforest trees. The entrance of the cafe is graced with a Spice Boutique where guests can learn and obtain some of the most exotic spices in Asia. Guests may also dine at the air-conditioned dining hall where they can look through the "theatre" kitchen/noodle/fruit juice bars to watch how chefs prepare the dishes that have been ordered. Outdoor seats are also available at special timber decks overlooking the sandy expanse of Batu Feringghi beach. Having breakfast outdoors amid a morning sea breeze, under a canopy of century old rain trees and surrounded by chirping tropical birds of the gardens, makes for a truly unforgettable experience. Elegantly situated on the charming Mezzanine floor of Rasa Wing, this dining area gives a breathtaking view of the grounds and gardens of the Resort. The award wining continental restaurant named after the legendary beach on which the Resort stands is open daily for dinner. It serves some of the most exquisite traditional favourite delicacies and signature dishes. The wine cellar carries many unique vintages as well as an extensive cigar list, while an adjacent bar makes for an ideal place to relax before after dinner. There are also two private rooms to accommodate gatherings for 8 and 22 people. Appropriately named for its intimate proximity to the shore, this bar and restaurant is also located next to the Resort's 3-par Executive Golf Course. With its roof architecture resembling a palace of the ancient Malay Sultanate, this breezy outlet is just 30 feet away from the lapping waves of the beach. Surrounded by swaying coconut trees, the outlet offers fruit juices, mock tails, cocktails, fresh salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, Spa lifestyle cuisine and Asian favourites. The Pinang Bar offers an experience of al fresco dining at it finest. Located beside the beach, its picturesque timber decks extend to the rim of the swimming pool while overlooking the scenic stretch of Batu Feringgi. The ambience here allows for an ideal venue to breath in the sunset or meet new friends around a bar. Lunch, dinner or between-meal snacks are served here. Each sunset is marked by the strike of a gong, which announces the beginning of happy hours. On the fringes of the Main Wing is an elegantly designed lounge that provides a refreshing meeting venue for casual conversations or to just relax on comfortable sofas over cocktail or afternoon tea. Every night, guests are treated to live entertainment that includes a pianist and strolling musicians who keep guests' feet tapping to the rhythm in a truly congenial atmosphere. Complimentary shuttle service to George Town is provided and signing privileges are available at our sister properties in Penang - Golden Sands Resort and Traders Hotel.

All Review Photos Rooms had balconies overlooking the pool and beach--what a lovely way to wake up to in the morning. The pool is on the beach as well, so the view is amazing. The staff was so helpful and nice.

The service was fanstastic; lots of smiling faces and staff went out of their way to be helpful. Great sunsets can be viewed from the balcony (each room has a balcony). You can pay a little more and enjoy the seafacing rooms. Loved the spice market ...

Having read previous reviews of this site it was with a little trepidation that I booked this hotel. However, having thoroughly enjoyed previous stays at the Shang in Sydney, Bangkok and KL I decided to take the chance. The outcome was total satisfaction with this hotel from the moment we we personally escorted to our rooms by our receptionist. Rooms were spacious and included a seperate shower stall and a balcony (both a must for us). Even had a pair of thongs (a must for Aussies) for each of us, by our bedsides. A call for ice, each night was answered within minutes. The pool area was delightful. Each sun-lounge was provided with a fresh terry-towelling covering and a towel was placed on each. Within minutes of arrival a chilled glass of water was provided for each guest. Our package included breakfast catering foods to suit any nationality. Turn your back and our coffee cups were refilled - we soon learnt yo invert our cups to avoid caffein OD. The package also included one buffet dinner and a one way transfer to/from the airport. I reserved our room via the net and requested a transfer from the ferry terminal since we were arriving in Penang, from Langkawi by boat but was advised that they could not do this. I was not contactable after leaving Australia but during our stay in langkawi the hotel tried to advise that they could, in fact, pick us up at the ferry terminal. On arrival home I discovered that they had emialed me twice, phoned ny mobile 3 times and finally faxed and then phoned my office in OZ in an effort to contact me. I was most impressed. We like to eat out of hotels as much as possible, particularly when in Asia so like to choose hotels where there are plenty of eateries within walking distance. The Rasa Sayang is perfectly located on eastern end of the Batu Ferringhi strip, close to tastey, cheap eateries. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough

This is a luxurious resort with all the obligatory facilities, the renovation well done, and the landscape is magnificently designed and beautifully preserved. During the ground and rooms inspection of the hotel on 2006-12-19 at 3 pm, I had an eerie feeling of something was amiss. It was only late that night when I was posting the photographs that I realized, I was met with some courteous smiling faces along the whole process of going through the hotel, but long disappeared was the heart-felt warm welcoming greetings of the old era of Rasa Sayang. Another peculiar feeling that haunted me was, there's no laughter, no merry mood of festive seasons although Christmas is only days away, and there's absolutely no sentiment of holidaying atmosphere in the air. When told about the odd regulation regarding guests of RASA Wing are allowed to use all the facilities in the hotel and that they are free to roam about the hotel vicinity as they wish, but not those guests of the Garden Wing, I was immediately reminded of the old caste system which I thought had long been abolished. Heaven forbids, I never want to spend my holiday in a resort where I have paid a handsome price for luxury and then only to find out within an invisible fence there is another territory which is even more luxurious and it is beyond my reach! All in all, this is a hotel that has everything except for a tiny bit of 'rasa sayang' - 'the feeling of love' atmosphere which makes it a very grim and cold Shangri-La!

We stayed in this hotel last year and were thoroughly impressed both with the quality of the rooms, the friendlyness of staff and there willingness to help and the also the quality of the restaurants. The Chinese and Japanese restaurants especially impressed us and we are looking forward to going back again this year.
