It was the first hotel I stayed in while I was in China, and it was perfect in every way. Great value!!! The breakfast buffet was wonderful--a wide selection of all kinds of foods. The location was good for walking to a lot of well-known places including prowling around the immediate neighborhood. The staff was helpful and friendly. If I were to give one negative comment, it would be about the elevators. There were two nice-sized and very clean ones, but they were extremely slow. I stayed for five days, and I think one morning it took 10 minutes to get to the lobby! Yes, the beds were very firm, but it was that way in 6 out of 7 other hotels I stayed in, and usually I was so tired that I never noticed until some other people I was traveling with commented on it. The hotel was being used by large groups of tourists, but it gave personalized attention to individuals as well. A very good experience all round.

The area around the hotel was boring. There were no restaurants or bars or entertainment of any kinds so we were forced to use the high price restaurant in the hotel. Room was small and could barely fit the rollaway bed they brought in to accommodate 3 people. There was no internet available. There was no clock in the room. Restaurant was good but expensive. Business center was below par and they charged $$$'s to use the internet. The bell hop was very accommodating by storing our luggage after check out... Service in the restaurant was slow. Rooms were clean and facilities worked well. Triple occupancy rate was pretty good but the 3rd bed was a roll way cot (very uncomfortable). There was nothing interesting or useful within walking distance of the hotel. Taxis were readiliy available. The rate was good for triple occupancy -- and the service was great.

It is good hotel for the money. The entire staff all were courteous and helpful. The breakfast buffet includes a fresh egg station that made omelets. The dinner buffet was less special. The hotel location is within a 20 minute liesurely walk of both a subway stop & Tiananman Square. A local market provides bottled water & beer at prices below hotel. The business office is expensive for internet use. An internet cafe is 10 minutes away that costs way less.

I stayed at the Dong Fang Hotel in the summer of 2005. It was the first hotel I stayed at in China. I stayed in three hotels in China. Other in Xi'an and Shanghai. The Dong Fang is by no means a luxurious hotel by western standards and the standard is not as high as the other 3 star hotels I stayed at in China. However, the location is excellent and it serves as a good base for getting around beijing. There is a supermarket near by and performances of the Beijing opera also within walking distance. The accomadation is perfectly adaquate and the rooms are well cleaned everyday. The rooms all have a T.V and fridge as standard. When I go back to Beijing I may well use the Dong Fang hotel again due to its location and friendly staff.

A good clean budget hotel, in a quite location. Check in was fast and efficient, and the staff spoke good English. I paid extra and had one of the 'superior rooms' which was in the new section, and over looked the main road. The room was a reasonable size, the bathroom has a bath /shower, and not a separate shower, but was clean and a good size. I did visit one of the budget rooms, in the old section, bit of a maze getting to the room, rooms were a lot smaller, but still clean. ! The coffee shop was very expensive, and 3-4 times the price of the adjacent restaurants (of which there were plenty), as was the small bar in the foyer. Would stay again, but in a superior room!
