The fun and attractive 1-star 1291 Hostel is in the centre of all the excitement of New York City, near Times Square and Central Park.
The hostel is right next to Broadway, so it’s the perfect place to be if you want to catch a top class show! You’re also near the Pond in Central Park, a perfect place for a romantic date rowing in one of the rental boats.
Carnegie Hall is just a few blocks away, this renowned venue has featured many star performers of classical music.
If you can’t afford the show, head to the mouth watering Carnegie deli for one of their famous pastrami sandwiches.
The rooms are quite small, but cosy and colourful.
They are freshly painted and attractively colour coordinated between the bed coverlets, curtains and wall hangings.
The basic rooms have a double bed, radio and a fridge.
The bathrooms are shared.
The top rooms have some extras including a queen sized bed and a TV.
There are also fans and heating for the comfort of the guests.
There is a self-serve, 24-hour, all-you-can-eat toast, cereal, milk, tea and coffee breakfast (included in the price).
There are also other great amenities like a kitchen per floor at guests' disposal (shared between 8/10 rooms), skateboard rental, bike rental, bus tours of the city, outdoor garden with seating, video rental, shuttle bus to the airport, free local phone calls and cheap internet access.
There is also a TV lounge, safe for valuables, wireless internet in public areas and a left luggage office.
Excellent location near Broadway and in central Manhattan!
This hostel is the worst hostel I have ever been at. The location is really good its walking distance to times square but its people are very rude and room is very dirty. I was there for the Jan/09. I also took some pictures of how dirty it is. I was there for only one night, I got another hostel a little bit further away but really clean for the other night. Subway is really good in newyork being further away didn\'t really bother me.
I booked with this bed and breakfast 4 months in advance. I originally booked for 5 but changed to 3, with an additional guest for two of the four nights. I was charged for an additional guest for 4 nights. The location of the B&B office was not anywhere on the site, only listed as 55th and 8th Ave. When we got to that intersection, I had to call the desk to finally get the address, which was another half block down W. 55th. When we were shown to our apartment, we had to walk past a full garbage can in the hallway. The apartment was on the second floor, directly across the street from a very loud construction site. The windows were so dirty, you could hardly see out of them. The walls of the apartment were grimey. There was a dirty broiler in the oven. There was no soap in the bathroom, no sheets on two of the beds, and no coffee maker in the kitchen. The sheets on the double bed were nubby, the pillows flat and had a musty odor. There were no top sheets on the bunk beds, just comforters. Luckily that didn't matter much to my sons. The first night we went out and came in later to find a large puddle from the air conditioner. We called about this but nothing was done by the end of the next day. We just mopped it up with a towel. The construction site got very loud every morning at six. The widows and floor vibrated when the bulldozers were moving concrete. I asked if there was an alternative accomodation but every thing was booked. So we were stuck. Luckily, my sons and I had a great time in the city. They were able to sleep through the noise, so only one of us was sleep deprived during the week. This apartment cost more than $1100 for 4 nights. (3 guests for 4 nights, 4 guests for 2 nights). Was it a great location? Yes. Did we have a great time? Yes. Would I recommend staying at the 1219Club? No.
Of all hostels and low budget places I have stayed, even in less developed countries, my stay at 1291 has to be the worst. My bed was infested with bed bugs leaving me with severe skin infections and terrible itching! The floors and tiles of my room and the corridor was filthy. Our air-conditioning broke down after just one night and they never got round to repairing it. The staff are usually polite but can certainly do better by being more helpful and taking initiative. I believe their lack of experience has to do with them being mostly student interns on holiday themselves and hence were clueless when confronted with situations like repair work and bed bugs. Forget about asking those on night shift to assist you - they seem rather reluctant and give one the impression that they are being harassed when approached. Honestly, after a long stay there, the ONLY good thing about this b & b is it's location and nothing more. This place had so much potential judging by their website. Considering how much the medical bill cost for all that bed bug bites, I'd rather stay at a more expensive but cleaner location using all that extra money I had to spend!
This hostel look amazing from their website. I thought I was going to stay at a clean and modern place close to the best attractions at a fraction of the cost; however, you pay for what you get. The hotel was very humid inside because they do not use a/c all the time. The main hostel area was very old, and it did not look totally clean. The room was small. It had nowhere to sit, but it did have a fridge. It, however, looked exactly as I suspected from the website, but the shared bathroom was rediculous. Only once in four days did somebody come and clean it. The tub/shower had been clogged, and the hotel services left it from day two until after we left. I had to, unfortunately avoid showering after day two, and I waited until the fourth day when I got home. If you want a not-so-clean place at a cheap price, then stay here. If you want some sort of romantic getaway or anything of that matter, DON'T STAY HERE. If I were to go to New York again, I would pay the extra $100/night to stay at a nicer location where I could spend time in the room and not be disgusted by the dirty walls or uncared for washroom.
I've been reading the reviews for Manhatten 1291, and i think there is some confusion. The address listend for Manhatten 1291 is the same for Swiss Hostel 1291 and this is my review for them. I went to new york by myself and booked a dormtory room. I had no idea what to expect since i had never stayed in a hostel. I was extreamly surprised and very happy. The location was great. Very close to the subway, central park, and Time square. The staff were all very friendly. They kitchen was kept clean by guest and i think if a guest did leave something dirty the staff would tidy up. They also provided ceral, milk, toast, jam and water through out the day for free. There were computer to use internet which was $1 for 15minutes (dont' remember the exact time) I stayed on the first floor in the blue room and i found it to be quite clean. The shared bathroom was never occupied when i needed it and i was sharing it with 12 other people. The bathrooms could have been a little more update and clean, but it wasn't too big of a deal. My only other problem was that it was still very hot while i was there and the only way to keep cool was to keep the window open, which faced the street and could at times get noisy. Overall i was extreamly happy with the Swiss Hostel 1291 and tired to book to stay there again this December/08, but they were already pretty much booked up.
Me and my girlfriend went to NYC for a girls trip middle of Jan and stayed at 1291. We chose 1291 because of its prime location and affordable price. We stayed in the Green Room on the first floor for 2 nights. I will give you a visual and my honest opinion. Both of us had never stayed a hostel before so really we didn't know what to expect except bedbugs and cockroaches. The room we got is painted green from floor to ceiling, with that said, the paint probably covered up a lot of flaws ex. Molds. We had a bunk bed, there were gum on the bed posts and also on the floor which attracted lots of ants. Pillows are thin like paper and you can feel the springs in the mattresses, also the bed makes alot of noise every time you move. The washroom: I was really gonna gag when I first saw it - okay its not like there were urine everywhere or anything but you can tell the staff other than wiping the toliet seat once a day, they don't really do much else. You will not able to tell what was the original colour of the tiles on the floor, because its black. Mirror is like a foil behind the door rather than a real mirror. There was a used thong hanging where the extra paper rolls on my last day there. Want to know about the only good thing? Water pressure was nice and water was warm. We didn't use the lounge much but they do have a big TV and unlimited peanut butter, bread, coffee and tea. Luggage storage is outside in a tiny house, everyone has access to it but we didn't lose our luggages. There is a minimum charge of $3 if you want to use the internet (even though the sign says $1) Now my true opinion: we were out most of the time so by the time we go back we were so tired we just want to sleep; it didn't matter how crappy the pillows (*tip we bought extra pillow cases to cover theirs) & mattresses are or how noisy the drunks are outside of our door, we slept right through the night without a problem. Washroom is dirty but we got flip flops (*tip) so our feet are not touching anything. We also bought disinfectant wipes and toliet seat covers to use while we were there (*tips). If you want a relaxing vacation don't stay there, you surrounding will stresses you out. But if you are not a germaphobic, only want a place to sleep and you want a cheap & convenient location (minutes walks to Time Square, Columbus Circle, Trump Tower and many subway lines) to get through the day, this is the place for you. Personally I'm going back to NYC in May and I will NOT stay with 1291 because I'm going for a longer period and I don't think I can handle the stress of worrying about germs all the time. My girlfriend however will not hesitate to stay there again.
I surprised my girlfriend with a manhattan get away to see our favorite author present. This was a lovely surprise for both of us. The view was amazing, had our own private balcony and kitchen. The window was huge and so lovely to look out when waking up.
I'm so upset to say just how bad this place is that I don't know where to begin. Suffice to say, there are many other places to stay where you won't risk getting communicable diseases from your bed, perhaps tick or flea carried diseases from the room, and absolutely nobody around to help out when the big bad neighbors start thumping loud obnoxious music and having guests are 3:30 in the morning. Not a fun time.
read almost only terrible reviews. rented apartment 3c for 3 nights. great location, efficient and courteous staff and comfortably furnished. would return on our next ny visit.
The location was great. The room decor tries to be hip and the public areas are comparable to a normal youth hostel (though the bathrooms are single-person only and one has to wait a while). So far, so good. But the room itself was delapidated, the furniture was falling apart and some of it was caked in grime. But the most unpleasant surprise of all was the series of little red bites on my legs when I woke up in the morning. Mine healed in 24 hours but my husband's took a week to heal.
My wife and I just stayed at this accommodation over the past weekend and were generally pretty happy. We stayed in the Gold Room and it was clean and the bed was no less or more comfortable than any other hotel bed. We had a working fridge and full cable in our room. The communal Bathroom was also clean, but the stairwell could use a mopping, but was not unsanitary or totally disgusting either. There are 2 parking garages on 55th st near the hotel; one is the east and the other to the west. Parking is $25 a day. The important thing for anyone to bear in mind when staying at this place is that it is reminiscent of a HOSTEL and not a HOTEL. Anyone used to accommodations in the UK ought to be used to this caliber of room. Heck, I once spent the night in London in a place that cost a lot more and was a lot crappier! In life you get what you pay for and there are certain trade off's. If you want a prettier hotel room in New York be prepared to either spend three times the money or go far outside the city center. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this room other than it is not fancy or the most esthetically pleasing. This is what keeps the costs down. You can either sacrifice this, or 2-3 times the money. Here what you see is what you get; the pictures are very accurate of what you get and they are not a misrepresentation of any kind. The only complaint I have about this place is that they didn't tell us that they didn't accept credit cards only cash or traveler's cheques over the phone. If you are not too fussy about style and want a decent and safe (NYPD Midtown percent on neighboring block 54th street) place to stay this is the place for you. If you are like me, you are not coming to New York to see the hotel room, just to see the city! You can either put your money into hitting the town or where you hit the mattress. The choice is yours.
Our family stayed in Apt 5C, which is a 5-minute walk to Times Square. You cannot beat the location of this quaint apartment. There are two queen beds (one is a futon) in a studio-style layout with tiny but fully-equipped kitchen. A spiral staircase leads to a small room upstairs with bunk beds and a tiny balcony with chairs. You must realize 1291 is a large group of accommodation choices, from hostels with community bathrooms up to large apartments. I cannot speak for anything but Apt. 5C, which was of average cleanliness but the location tipped the scales to "above average". In fact we have booked the same apt for Oct. 2006 for a week. We had a couple of maintenance issues with the radiator but the staff did fix the problem in a reasonable manner. If you don't expect too much from the staff and just want an average place to stay < 5 mins from Times Square then this is it. For the money we couldn't complain.
After reading some earlier reviews, we were a bit hesistant. To our surprise, the 5 C apartment was wonderful and spacious for our family of 4. There was ample space and the spiral stairs up to the bunk room was a special bonus. The kitchen was well stocked and the location is OUTSTANDING! The queen (therapeutic) bed is really hard, so ask for extra blankets to soften it a bit. Pick this apartment if you want space, location and comfort. You will enjoy easy walks to Central Park and the theater district. AMAZINGLY QUIET,TOO!
Me and 4 of my friends were there in June. The place wasn't that bad but new pillow could make it better. I'm not sure about this guy name but this frontdesk guy was really cool, he helped us a lot told us where to go, carried very heavy lugguages to our room, and even gave us a voucher for free wine tasting which we didn't have time to do that. Location wasn't that bad about 5 mins walk to subway which could take you anywhere in New york. So, if you plan to visit Ny for 3-4 nights it's not bad to stay here
This is an apartment building in a row house. I think they said they have 4 rentals and 2 full time tenants. Since there were five of us, we stayed in the larger family style apartment, which sleeps up to six. The apartment was nice (not as nice as the pictures on the website), and the location was excellent, in Spanish Harlem, a block from the subway (though it is a very steep uphill block). We had six bunk beds, which is kind of hard on couples, a full kitchen, living room area, and dining table, and a bathroom. The bathroom is kind of old, but nice enough. The apartment is fully stocked with kitchen supplies (dishes, utensils, pots, etc.), towels, sheets, pillows are all provided. We paid $555 for three nights, which is very cheap. It's hard to find a place to sleep five people, and we didn't want to get two hotel rooms in NYC. This place was great because we didn't have to share a bathroom, and we had a kitchen and living room so we didn't feel crowded. I would definitely stay in this place again the next time I go to NYC with a group.
The apartment/room is very close to the subway and that makes it an attractive spot. While I prefer more ammenities, I also value my hard earned dollars. This hotel provided a nice compromise. The person who met us to let us into our room was very cordial, willing to provide lots of information, and timely. The apartment was very clean though appliances and the bathroom were older. The neighbor while clearly located in a less desirable neighborhood compared to more expensive areas seemed safe and was always well-lit at night. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget, particularly given that its equivilant in another neighborhood at the same price would not offer the same size, cleanliness, conveniences, or proximity to the subway.
I think it's the dirtiest place I ever lived in. We were there for 9 nights. It was the first time in NYC for me & my girlfriend, and the last time in the 1291 B&B... We have made the reservation for a certain room (and been confirmed!) that was known as renovated, and another one was waiting for us when we arrived (unrenovated of course...!). The bed seems more like a balance than like a bed, basically it was a click-clak bed, no comment about what we found below it, it was evident that not cleaning have been made for a long long time... Lot of dust on every part of the room... The door and its lock seems to be very fragile, the window didn't close completely, the mini-fridge was very noisy... The shared-bathroom was as dirty as the rest (if not even more) and the shower of our level was "out of order" for 3-4 days (just a detail cause we decided to never use it when we saw the state of it on the first day, we wash ourselves with the in-room sink...!!). Part of that, the staff was unfriendly, especially a girl who, visibly, didn't have any fun to be there... Concerning the breakfast, it's a pack of bread and another one of corn-flakes in a closet, and it's the "do it yourself"-way, no need to say that we never had the courage to take our breakfast there... So in the place of "Bed & breakfast" which is a too honorific term, the "Click-clak & pic-nic" fits better to the place... ;-) Only the location had satisfied us... To do it short: don't go there !!! I didn't know, there was something about it on the tripadvisor website, that's why I wrote it only now...

I stayed here over easter 2007. The first problem on arrival was that they stated I had booked a dorm room for our first night and a private room for the other nights. Thankfully I had my email confirmation that stated I had booked a private room for the entire time, they ended up giving us our private room. The look on the door was very bad and we were always happy to get back and notice that nothing had been moved. Bed Bugs!! Yes the bed was infested with them. I spent my of the trip itchy! I'm back home now and I'm still itchy! Bathroom was ordinary and the shower looked as though it had never been cleaned. Great location, but the disadvantages out strip the advantages!
This was the WORST hostel I have ever stayed at. I was actually forced to look for alternative accommodation, due to numerous issues… The place was FILTHY, the staff rude, the door wouldn't unlock in the middle of the night (so I was stuck outside till 9:00am), and so on. Go anywhere else but to B&B 1291!!!
I stayed in a private room with shared bathroom for 1 night. The whole complex is very bohemian with brightly painted walls, doors and stairwells. The whole place is budget accommodation so if you're looking for the smallest amount of luxury or extra amenities like soap, glasses etc then don't go here (towels and sheets were provided in our room). But, if you just want a no frills bed in a comfortable and well loacted facility then this is it. My room was long and narrow and despite having no seating beyond the bed it had a huge cupboard, bookcase and wall unit beside the sink. This room was bigger than a 4 star place I stayed at in the upper westside for $170!! I also had a TV and fridge which worked fine. The bed was soft but comfortable and the room was very clean as was the bathroom. The hot water and water pressure were very good but the shower-head needed replacing. "Breakfast" was only Cherios and toast with jam or peanut butter. The kitchen was well stocked with these items plus coffee, tea and milk. The kitchen, like the entire facility, was kept very clean as was the lounge area which had a massive TV. I didn't use the internet but it was $1 for 10 mins. The check-in staff were very nice and our hallway and room were very quiet. We only paid $94 for one night (incl. taxes) but we were told that after winter these prices go up to $140.
We found this cheap hotel (in an expensive city) to be very well located close to Central Park, close to shopping and sights, close to Broadway. he reception staff are efficient and helpful, if not especially friendly (they seemed surprised by friendliness - but it is New York). The cleaning staff are very friendly! There is a very steep narrow staircase - quite tricky with luggage, or even without luggage - and it could be cleaner (floor a bit sticky, walls grubby, sheets very very worn). Shared bathroom was not too bad though, and bedroom was heated. The breakfast is very average but the coffee is good. The internet access very expensive. Noisy if you are on the street side. You get what you pay for and we were happy enough as the location was very convenient.

Terrible, dirty hostel that calls itself a hotel but which is nothing more than a flop house. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging the prices that they do. The facilities are terrible and filthy. We had a private room which was pretty dirty, but nothing compared to the pure filth that was the bathrooms. One even had a huge hole in the ceiling covered by a tacked up piece of material. Please don't stay here, its a waste of money! For us it was the choice of sleeping here or at the station, and next time I'll chose the station!
Great place to stay on a budget. I have made many trips to NYC and have stayed in different hotels each time. This is my favorite place to stay. It's not the Plaza, so don't expected it to be. Staying here is like living in NYC. The staff was very nice and helpful. The people staying there were mostly from out of the Country and very nice. I plan on staying again this September, thats how much I like it.
HELL must be a better place than this one! We booked the place when it was still called 1291 Sleep, but it did not turn out anything like the fotos on the website. Nobody there to open the place on arrivel. The place looked like a real dump. There we were with our confirmation e-mails trying to get in when a person perfectly stoned opened the door leaving the building. The WORST place we had seen in a lifetime! We took off in our taxi which had waited for us. The haitian cabdriver told us it was NOT A SAFE NEIGHBOURHOOD. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. BETTER STAY AT YMCA. Now they changed their name from 1291 Sleep to Bed & Breakfast 1291 to get rid of the reviews under the first name. A FRAUD in other words! BEWARE!!!!!
Just to clear up confusion that caught me after I had booked at SWISS 1291, SLEEP 1291 is a different hostel. Not sure why the names are similar, as they sound very different. Swiss 1291 is on 55th St, and although expensive for very basic accommodation, is clean, friendly, staffed all day and evening, and safe. By the sounds of it though, make sure you aren't booking at the wrong place.

This hostel was insanely overpriced, it took us over an hour just to get checked in, and from the point at where we checked in we had to walk to another point where we were staying, crossing roads and everything. This is difficult especially when after that you have to walk up three large flights of stairs with all of your luggage. The hostel also advertises 24hour breakfast, but after paying extra for a supposedly 'better' room, we were advised that we weren't allowed the 24hour breakfast! This hostel is extremely unorganized and overpriced. To their credit though, the room was very nice.
The filth is the worst thing - I just don't think these people know how to clean. On the plus side - this is the BEST location you can get - we sometimes came home during the day to have a shower because it was so hot (September). When we complained about the filthy state of the room - the management did rectify the problems we complained about in a reasonable manner. The staff were always nice to us, which is unusual for New York. But the filth was disgusting: the shower curtain was covered in mould - we asked for it to be cleaned but they actually replaced it. Our sheets appeared to have not been changed from the last person. The floor was sticky. The dust and general dirtiness of the room was not inviting and cosy. The air-conditioning would not switch off but it didn't really work either. We had to move from one room to another and accidentally left our food in the room and I went back to get it and they had not removed it for the next residents! The 6 or so flights of stairs we had to climb is pretty standard for New York - albeit a pain but the foyer was so filthy you could have picked up a disease from just walking through it! I would never stay here in Winter - you would literally freeze to death because of the bad seals on the windows! I would never stay here again because it did sour my experience of New York - I know the hotels are expensive in New York and this was at US$200/night! but I'd rather pay even US$100 more/night and stay somewhere clean and inviting that than hole. Staff were nice and did rectify all complaints though.

This is the deffinition of a bogus place!! seeing other rewiews I'm not sure if they are talking about the same place we try to stay; the horrible place is located in 1596 Lexington Avenue, New York City. There is nobody there to open the door, no front desk, the phone numbers they gave us...no answers (day or nignt) and worst, even the taxi driver told us he thinks this is not a good neighbour. We saw backpackers out the door with all their things and confirmation emails in their hands waiting for hours to get in. The building is a cage, iron bars in the windows... My husband and I (and the Taxi Driver) decided to run away, even if we had to loose the money, and we booked a "studio" for a week...
Words fail me !. But when the airport shuttle bus driver actually asks you ' You guys staying in a hostel '? You have to ask yourself, "My god what have I done" ?! I Booked this place via their website.Normally,I'm a very good judge of hotels and travel planning. But this was beyond a farce. You arrive in Spanish Harlem to be met by an iron cage surrounding the stairway up to the 'apartments'(They fail to have a photo of this on their website, just a quirky cartoon of the building). Then find there is no-one around to meet you as no-one answers the phone numbers given. Luckily, we met two Dutch men leaving on a night out,who just shook their heads at the thought of us staying there too. When we got in,it was due to the fact that ALL the doors where open, meaning anyone off the street could of wandered in at any time. Well, once inside, the place is NOT what you booked on the 'net at all.Three sets of bunk beds, thin mattresses, bars on the windows, only one channel on the tv ( and that's the video channel)Immediatly we got the travel guide out and booked three nights at the Buckingham Hotel pronto. We didn't even care about losing the two nights advance money we'd already wired to them. If you have worked many hours saving for a well earned holiday and want to live in fear of your life and your possesions then this IS the place for you. But, if you want to enjoy NYC to it's fullest in safety, comfort and have a chance to relax.. then go elsewhere. This place is a disgrace, stay well away!!

The dirtiest place I've ever been to. Don't book here. I was so disgusted by the unprofessionalism and dirt. If we hadn't moved out our hard - earned holiday would've been ruined. DON'T go here!
A police report has been filed about this establishment. We booked accommodation but it was not provided. No one was in attendance and the innkeper was not contactable. My brother in law paid a deposit of over $US700.

We enjoyed our stay greatly. The Innkeepers where the most helpful people - you could call them for directions even if you where lost. Once they check you in you don't really see them - but that was not an issue because - there was always clean towels and made beds waiting for you. The rooms where new and spotlessly clean, and stayed like that. I was truly amazed to find such a dimond of a place to stay, affordable and in a great area. I would reccomend anyone to stay here. You would love it - the neighborhood was so ethnic with great resturants and the subway is only one block away - 5 minutes to central manhattan. Great place.
Don't even try booking a place here!My girlfriend went to New York in October 2005 and after looking at several hotels we found these apartments for daily and weekly rents. The price was reasonable and the pictures on the internet seemed fine. They are not true!!! We got to our location after a very long trip from Italy, around 11pm.Nobody was there to great us!!No phone number we had as reference was answering. After standing over an hour on a solitary road,in the cold, quite surprised and quite frightened we got inside the building and tried buzzing at the first door.It was opened, the lights were on and it was ready for us!So we went in, feeling quite weird, and started unpackinig. The place smelt so bad. After killing a couple of cokroaches, we got into bed and the linens weren't fresh, we found hair in it.No comment about the kitchen sink.During the night it would fill up with dirty water mixed to washing-up liquid. The bathroom was the unhealthiest place I've ever seen.Hair, and dirt everywhere. We had already sent a wire transfer, with half of the balance due, so we had to at least stay 4 nights. The most terrible of my life, dust and dirt was everywhere and we just couldn't stop sneezing. After 4 days of trying to contact the innkeepers we NEVER got answer, but just notes telling us we had to pay the remaining balance.I think they didn't have the courage to meet us or the other guests ( we met a spanish couple that weren't able to see the innkeepers either) as the place was so terrible and not at all worth $174 per night. We luckily found a much better place for the same money and moved out for the last 4 nights. If we'd stayed there our hard-earned holiday would've been ruined. There's many more terrible details I could add, but I'll keep it short WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T GO TO 1291sleep!!!The photos are NOT TRUE and the place is run by ghosts!!!
It was my first trip to NYC, and being a student on budget I was not expecting a Hilton class, but neither was I expecting to be in such close contact with filth and unprofessionalism. first, the rooms: incredibly small, very dirty (you could tell that the floor hasn't been cleaned for a loooong time, plus, there was garbage under our bed!!!), the bed was partly broken and the TV didn't work while we paid for a "top room". second (and we found that to be the worst part):the bathroom. The shower curtain was filthy, the drain was clogged, the floor was dirty, wet and slippery.I had to buy cleaning supplies, because it was just unbearable. third: the breakfast, some bread, cereals that are supposed to be shared, and have been sitting there along with the milk for --- knows how long. Do not even try it! Definitely go get something at Starbucks. fourth: supposedly, they can make arrangments if you need an aiport shuttle for either JFK or LGA for $20. On my day of departure, I almost missed my flight for Europe because my shuttle actually never showed up. When i asked the desk for a refund so that I could catch a cab and leave, they kept telling me to keep waiting! It is not unless I demanded that refund and raised the tone, that I got my money back.It took at cab that took me to LGA for only ten more dollars. That was so not worth the stress. Anyways: DO NOT GO THERE, IT IS NOT WORTH A SINGLE PENNY! I would rather go to a better hotel and stay for a shorter period of time, than returning to that kind of abyss.
I can't believe I ever stayed at this place. Upon our first night, there was a guy, who must be on of the residents, that played his guitar at 3am. He played the same damned song over and over and over again. This woke us up pretty much every single night we stayed there. I wanted to cancel a couple of nights stay but could not get a hold of the guy who was the inn keeper. I tried relentlessly to no avail. They only answer when you are trying to book a stay with them and once you've arrived, good luck trying to get a hold of them. The location was terrible. If you value your safety, do not stay here. There were several guys who were always outside the building hanging around, almost as if they were up to no good. One good thing is that the subway was only a block away and there's a great Mexican restaurant across the street from the subway entrance. But even with this, I will never again stay at this hell hole.
The place wasn't that clean, and the price & location is the only reason why you would go there. It might be that the cleaning staff is not good at the moment as I've sign ads for cleaning staff hunting. By the way, the subway is close as Broadway, Times Square and Central Park. Don't expect too much by the way.
Excellent location. 5 blocks from times square and 5 blocks from Central park. It's not really a B&B, even though they promote it as such. It's simply 2 old houses one besides the other with no host but personel in the office between 8am and 8pm. The room is too small to spend any time in it. The common areas are not very nice. You can hear the noise from the other rooms and the washroom in the morning. The place is not easy to find as it doesn't have a sign outside, so make sure you have the exact address with you. The breakfast is self serve in a kitchen besides de office. We wen't out for breakfast every morning so I don't know what it was. But I saw bread and cereal on the counters. The rooms are extremly small. We stayed on the beige room. It had a TV, sink, desk and chair and a night table with a lamp and an alarm. Everything old but clean. The bed was a double with a very very hard matres. The whole room was very clean and smelled good. The washroom was on the hall way and cleaned only once a day.
The appartment lies in a very central position, about 200 mt from Times square. Very good for max 4 people. Too noisy due to a construction in front of... a good squeeze for waking up in the morning :)
Great Place, excellent location to everything. If you wanted to walk this would be the place. The bed mattress needs to be replaced, other than that excellent all the way.
The only complaint I have about this place is that they didn't tell us that they didn't accept credit cards only cash or traveler’s cheques over the phone.
