Good location, and small room.
My experience here was great. The location was wonderful for what I came to do, my kids were comfortable accessing the things we needed, the staff was friendly and I loved the valet parking option.
I liked very much the location.
Bordering on run-down, not yet there.
Located near a lot of the things Chicago has to offer and the rooms were clean and very well kept. Would stay there again...no problem
Despite the rather shabby exterior of the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was immaculately clean in the public areas, as well as in our attractively appointed room. We had easy access to public transportation, the staff eagerly answered our questions and provided helpful information.
I stayed here in April for a convention. My hotel bill was cheaper than everyone elses. :-) To make it better, we had a room with an excellent view.
This hotel is a good value for the location on Michigan Ave. Northern Michigan Ave is the main shopping destination, however with the bus line and El so close to the hotel, you can get anywhere downtown fairly quickly. It is within walking distance of big museums. The room was clean with pleasant decor. Bring your own pillow, though, these were flimsy without support. While I felt safe here, it is always best to be unguarded. A street person attempted to walk away with our bags after we unloaded them from the car.
Hotel staff is friendly, rooms are clean, location is great if you want to visit attractions south of the Chicago river (museums), not a bad place for business traveler or families.
It was not a great a hotel.
im staying in the hotel right now and it sucks. the internet sucks. i can't believe that i even got to this page. no microwave, no fridge, no spoons. you're pretty much on your own. the only thing that it has going for it is the location.
Staff was in the most part friendly and helpful. The room was clean and I had a great view of the waterfront. The public spaces were need of a little sprucing up.
This hotel was a great place to stay close to everything, friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms, couldn't hear the neighbors. A great value!
The people were very helpful at the hotel. They let us know exactly where everything was and how to get there and back. The location is great if you want something a little outside the crazy magnificent mile.
Good hotel for a decent price.
My husband and our two boys enjoyed our stay at the hotel, it was comfortable for four in our double sized room, good views, good service, excellent restaurant, small but nice outdoor pool area, safe. Interesting area with shops and restaurants. We were within walking distance to the museum campus across the street in Grant Park.
We had a very nice stay. The room was comfortable and clean, the location was great.
The hotel was quite convenient for me. Earlier reviews had already warned me that the outside of the hotel was not all that remarkable and that was true. The exterior was pretty drab. The inside of the hotel was alright enough though it probably could have been brighter or more inviting. The room was clean and inviting. The woman who cleaned my room was always nice and inviting though the front desk staff could have been a bit more engaging. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and had no problems. I'd definitely stay again and I'd recommend it to anyone who was going to Chicago and was looking for a nice place to stay at a good price.
The hotel was in a great location. I will probably stay there again.
When we first pulled up we noticed right away that the parking garage was closed. Luckily while we were parked in front to unload our luggage we saw some spots open up right in front of the building across the street so we parked there for nothing. Location was very convenient. Beds were very comfortable. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly. Great food in the hotel restaurant and the bar stayed open till we left around 11:30. We would definitely stay there again!
Overall this hotel was very clean & the staff was friendly & helpful. I loved the location as I was there to sightsee & it was walking distance to museums, the planetarium, Shedds Aquarium, etc. The restaurant downstairs was great & the breakfast place around the corners (Yolk) was amazing for breakfast.
Initially I was satisfied with the staffs friendliness. The breakfast buffet was horrible and a waste of money! The biggest disappointment was the noise. I was on the 9th floor and was awaken very early in the morning by workers on the roof, hammering, talking and singing! I should have been made aware of this prior to check in and then been given an option. When I spoke to the front desk about my disappointment I was only offered a lame apology. They could have at least offered a complimentary breakfast, especially since the breakfast was not worth paying for!
The only good thing about the hotel is the location; It is an easy walk to the Field Museum and the Shed. It's along walk to get to the shopping area on Michigan Ave.
All staff were very frienldy and helpful. We were met with a smile and short greeting when ever we came and went from the hotel sight seeing. The restaurant staff were also friendly and knew the area well when we had questions. Nice view of the Grant Park and the lake.
Would stay here again If need parking, I would recommend using a garage about a block away for half the price of the valet service.
Slept like a baby Hotel is pretty close to the red, green, and oragne lines, all of which can pretty much get you anywhere around the city you want to go. Definitely get a visitor pass for stays longer than a couple days, as they come in VERY handy.
The Best Western, Grant Park was the perfect location to visit the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Soldiers Field. These are all within walking distance. The train or bus stop is only one to two blocks away and you can get most anywhere from this stop. The view from the ninth floor was great. We could see the skyline and the park. The hotel staff told us about day passes for the train and bus for only $5.00 which can be used for 24 hours. We took great advantage of this pass. Also, there is a grocery shop only one block away for items. We ate in the resturant attached to the hotel for a morning buffet which was great and also for a dinner. The resturant also has bottles of wine that they will open for your room.
Hotel is close to downtown and within walking distance to many venues
Reasonably priced stay in Chicago PLUS: It is quiet and suitable located for business travelers. Check in and check out was easy. The bathroom and linen were clean. The rooms are in good condition. I was impressed with the kindness of personnel service. MINUS: I wasnt able to connect to wireless internet offered free by hotel. After spending a good time speaking with representative, I have used paid local internet provider. Air conditioner runs right to your face, which is not nice.
no rooms available at hotel at mccormic place tand this was the next closest. it served our needs, it was just an average hotel.
hotel is has a good location cool blues clubs just in walking distance.
beyond expectations the location was convenient to area museums, was within walking distance and taxi fare was reasonable
Well located near museums, this hotel is very convenient and a good value for the money. It looks a little tired, but it's very clean, and the restaurant wasn't bad -- nice croissants for breakfast, and a terrific pizza for supper. Sunday brunch was lacking, though.
The hotel is located across Michigan Ave form Grant Park - great location. The room was very clean. Amenities are limited, but the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the price was right for a place to spend the night. I would recommend the Best Western Grant Park and would definitely stay there again.
A great budget choice in downtown Chicago There are three diners close by, two of them (the Bongo Room and Eleven Diner) on Wabash Ave., behind the hotel. The Walgreen's near the Roosevelt station is very convenient to get snacks and sundries. The café (and restaurant) attached to the hotel has good breakfast pastries and expresso.
Hotel had great view of Grant Park The hotel had a great view of Grant Park. Walking distance to many good restaurants and museums.
Exceptional service The hotel was great. 4 blocks fron Soldier field, Valet parking, restaurant in the hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will definately stay here again.
only location the thing that makes this place attractive is just only where it stands, there can not be added any other thing as a positive impression.
We have just visited Chicago for a long weekend, I booked the Best Western at Grant Park because we were going to the Chicago bears/Denver Bronco`s game.
Great Location This hotel is located within easy walking distance to the Roosevelt "El" Station, and there is a bus stop within a block. We would have liked for the heater fan to continue running to provide background noise.
Room was generally nice, house keeping took dirty towels away next morning but didn't leave any clean ones. Day staff VERY un-helpful, gave us wrong info. Night staff was awsome!! Bed had dip in middle so you rolled, the curtians were missing hooks so they wouldn't close right. As long as you are aware this hotel is only a 2 star. There was NO business centre (no access to email).
The reviews I read before going had me a little nervous. Everything was great! We were reserved for a smoking king which we didn't want, but was the only room available. We were upgraded upon registering, without even asking, to a king non-smoking suite with microwave and refrigerator and in-room safe, for no additional charge. Everyone at the front desk was very helpful and courteous, the location was great for public transportation, the bed had a pillow top and was very comfortable. The room wasn't cheap at $206 per night, but was the only room we could find under $400 the last weekend in October, 2007. The wireless internet worked great from our room. We needed a maintenance call for our bathroom sink drain. The maintenance man was there within two minutes of my calling and had it repaired in two minutes! The only negative was housekeeping didn't come until about 4 p.m. one day and we were back in our room by then so we just asked for clean towels. I would recommend this hotel. (There is a convenience store about 2 blocks away; the deli next door is closed.)
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and we loved our experience! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.
This is a great hotel to stay at if you're looking for a great room but don't want a lot of extras. We spent most of every day out taking in the sights. The room was as nice as a lot of 4 star hotels.
That's not the best hotel i've ever been, but it's a good one for business travels.
Everything was Great except the Resturant, service was poor at best and the food was overpriced. It is a Great hotel if you don't need any extras, no business center, no pool etc. Just a good comfortable place to stay with no frils. Was there Sept. 10th - 13th, 2007 for the Graphic Show.
This is a no frills hotel with fairly clean rooms and a good location.
I had a great experience at that Best Western Grant Park. The hotel staff was very friendly when I arrived. The room was always very clean and restocked every morning with soaps, etc. The hotel is right next to Grant Park which is within walking distance from the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Soldier Field. You are also a short taxi ride away from Millenium Park, The Art Institute, Hancock Observatory, Sears Tower and other attractions. The only real downside is there's no complimentary breakfast in the morning. However, there's a diner right next to the hotel and I believe you can get room service. There's a nice pool and a small fitness center on the third floor. The room had enough space for two people with a Queen size bed. A King size bed with a better view would have been $60 more per night according to the hotel staff. Overall, I'd reccommend this hotel highly.
The location is right across from Soldier Field and the Field Museum, a three block walk to Buddy Guy's Legends club, and visitors have easy access to Grant Park's lovely paved walking trails and can easily walk downtown. Service is acceptable but not customer oriented, so if you want to be pampered, stay at a pricier hotel.
Great location for a great price.
Overall the Best Western Grant Park in Chicago was quite comfortable and clean. The staff of the hotel was courteous and as helpful as they were allowed. Some things the staff may want to consider; -one of the lights in the room did not work. -There is a large gap under the door where light from the hallway comes in quite brightly all night long. -There were several problems with the television *It was difficult to turn on with the remote. *After it's been on for about 20 minutes the sounds volume begins to rise on it own. *The initial screen for viewing hotel services and movies available was frozen with a computer error message every day that I was there. -In the bathroom there is a noisy fan that cannot be turned off and the over-the-mirror light, which is quite difficult to turn on. I asked a maid for assistance on this light and even she had a hard time with it. -The restaurant connected to the hotel is far too expensive for the type and quality of food it serves.
After reading the reviews about this hotel, I was nervous to stay there, but I'm glad I didn't let the reviews scare me away. This was our first time to Chicago, and we didn't know where to stay so we decided to stay in the Grant Park Area. It was a close commute to downtown, and the hotel rates were much lower than in downtown. We actually got a great deal on the hotel room, and although the room was small, it was clean and had all the amenities we needed, tv, coffee maker, hair dryer, alarm clock, large windows with a view, and the bed wasn't the most comfortable, but it was ok. The hotel is right on the corner with a close bus stop, and the train is 2 blocks away. There is a gas station, and starbucks 2 blocks away, and dining options close. Parking was $20 per day for overnight at a parking garage close to the hotel with no in and out privilages. You could also use the hotels valet service for $26 per day including overnight with in and out privilages. I suggest trying to find street parking, that's what we did, and it saved us $60-78 depending on where we would have parked. I think we found parking on 14th street, and stayed parked there for 3 days. Overall the hotel was a good value, and had a great location. You don't spend much time in your room anyway when your in Chicago, so don't pay high prices at the Hilton, stay at the Best Western Grant Park Hotel!!
I was very surprise by the price. When I paid, my invoice was at 185 USD by night with the information (internet reservation). At first, I paid and a few minutes after, I asked the supervisor. He was very sorry and made a deal at 119 USD per night. Normal
My daughter and I stayed here for Lollapalooza 2006. We had the best time of our lives! The hotel was convenient, the staff was great, and by the 2nd day we were seeing people at the festival from the hotel, so we really felt at home.
Service was generally good and efficient. Front desk overall efficient, e.g. a request for extra blankets was fulfilled within 10 minutes. Lobby is clean and fresh. Room was cleaned daily to a decent standard.
the hotel was great. the room was great. the food was great. the pool was great. the service was great. i would stay here again.
Room was fine and the staff helpful. Buffet breakfast was a bit overpriced, otherwise as expected on all other accounts
Best thing about this hotel is its location. It is close to the loop (read "Buddy Guys"), and nice restaurants on Michigan Ave. It is close to McCormick. Price is high for the room but not for the location. Had a couple of drunk European tourists in the r
The hotel itself was nice (clean/friendly people/safe location) however I was very diappointed in two things. There were NO working ice machines in the building and I was told by front staff that I could go to Walgreens to buy a bag of ice. Secondly, I left behind a fairly expensive flat iron which was not returned by housekeeping. Very disguisting to me, I hoped honesty would prevail. Next time, we will search for another hotel.
When you think of hotels you do not truly think you will feel at home. Well I sure did here. I needed to print a boarding pass and allthough they did not have a business center the Manager Gina was so helpful and made it happen for me. She's customer driven. It starts at the top and I see why all the staff there are so happy and friendly. They were always smiling and helpful. I will be back again and again. I stayed in the Lake View room ...what a spectacular view....
I had an amazing visit and stay at this hotel. The room was very clean and fresh. The staff was so accomodating and friendly. Always smiling and so eager to help. I had various requests from this staff and they were so pleasant during my entire stay. From the maid to the reservation mgr-Octovio-everyone was extremely nice. The bell clerk also was so friendly. I will definitely return to this hotel during my next stay. Lots LOTS of value for the money.
We read the reviews too and were anxious about what we would find but we were very pleased. We had a place to park while we checked in and three options for long term parking. The front desk people were polite, friendly, and professional. Later when we asked for advice, they gave us suggestions and directions to places to visit and recommendations for transportation. The room and bathroom were clean and fresh smelling and the bathroom was well stocked. The room was small but that is typical of big city hotels and it was more than adequate with an iron, ironing board, microwave, and refrigerator. The best part was the price for the location. We could get to the main downtown areas easily and had a pleasant walk through the park to the museums and waterfront. There is nothing about this hotel that would keep me from recommending it to others since I plan on staying there again.
Did the other reviewers stay at the same hotel I did? I booked this hotel for a "girls trip" with my mother and daughter and I liked the closeness and convenience to everything we wanted to see and do in Chicago. After booking, I saw all these terrible reviews on here and I got a little panicked but after discussing with my mother we decided to give it a try anyway. I am VERY glad we did. We were greeted warmly by the staff and in fact EVERY single interaction we had with any staff member was professional and friendly. Our room was wonderful- 2 big double beds which were very comfy and neither one sunk to the middle which seems to be the common complaint here. And believe me, I am VERY hard to please when it comes to sleeping in a strange bed. Anyway, I slept like a baby all 3 nights we were there. The free complimentary breakfast was good. There was a large selection of croissants, bread for toasting, bagels, donuts, pop-tarts and fresh juice and coffee. The pool was very nice. It was moderate sized, but VERY clean and very refreshing to come back to on a 90 degrees+ day. Lots of clean towels at the pool too! Everything was very CLEAN too, from the lobby area to our rooms and hallways, I always saw someone cleaning something. I'm beginning to think all these reviewers were just one disgruntled former employee or something!! While, I don't have any complaints I do have 2 suggestions however. It would be nice if they added a microwave and refrigerator to the rooms. Staying there 3 days and dining out for lunch and dinner we had several "doggy bags" at various times. We usually just ate them later in enough time before they went bad, but those 2 items would be a nice addition to the room. I'm looking forward to coming back here again for my next Chicago trip!
The Grant Park Best Western Hotel was situated near many interesting sites - even within walking distance. The view from the motel was extraordinary at night. Also, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
After reading other reviews I was almost afraid to stay here but it was so convenient to my sister's place. I was on a personal trip so needed a reasonably priced hotel which can be hard to find in Chicago. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel staff were not real friendly but they were accommodating. The room was clean and the furnishings were fine. The location is south of downtown but still very convenient to public transportation. If you get a good price, don't let the reviews deter you.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that my room was quite clean and comfortable.
A very old building with modest updates-- not very clean; worst bed I've ever slept on. Overall, this place is an embarassment. Designed with very small doorways, small rooms; a/c didn't work, and windows don't open. Would have had a better night if I slept in the park across the street.
It appears that this hotel is hit or miss. We actually had a pretty good stay that soured immediately upon check out when they tried to charge us a higher rate than we had clearly signed for. We told them not to process our credit card, which they did not after at least two heated calls to management and Mastercard. Then they put my charge on my sister's VISA card (she stayed there at the same time) and it took her a month at least to have that removed. After that they charged it to my account 8 months later. Needless to say Mastercard did not think too highly of this. I will refer it to the Chicago Police.
After reading other reviews about this hotel I was almost afraid to stay there. I was on a work trip and budget was low so I had to find a "cheap" hotel. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and pleasant. The furnishings were fine. The only negative thing was the location. However, it was easy to get a taxi. Don't let reviews scare you off.
After reading some of the reviews we were worried about what to expect. What we found was helpful service, a nicely decorated room, and comfy beds. The location is wonderful, close to the magnificent mile, museums, and mass transit systems. The price is the best part of the entire deal!
We reserved a non smoking room, when we got to our room it was a smoking room. call down to the desk no one answer kept trying by the time i got through she said that there wasn't any rooms available that were non smoking but it was an emerency she would find one(thought there was none available) anyways the room smelled and the beds sunk in very uncomfortable, buffet breakfast was not worth the 7.00 you had to reheat your eggs and bacon....bad real bad... just everything about it was thee worse experience I have ever had at a hotel
I had read mixed reviews on the Internet before my brother and I left Denmark to visit Chicago (among other places) but I was pleasantly surprised on arrival. There was some confusion concerning our reservation - just a minor hick-up, and the overall impression was good.
This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. We were overcharged after they changed the rate without telling us, my room smelled extremely bad b/c the carpets were soaking wet, and the elevator STILL doesn't work. Our experience was not unique. Spend fifteen minutes in the lobby and you will see several people complain about the same things I am. Location is okay, but I wouldn't stay here!
We stayed here for a weekend and the service was excellent and helpful, the hotel was extremely clean with a nice coffee shop downstairs. It was convenient to the train and within walking distance of several good restaurants and tourist attractions. I really didn't find anything lacking. It's not fancy but it's nice and in a good location. We were very happy and would definitely go back!
Great location for museum (10 minutes walk)room are small but it was very clean, no problem with service, maybe if you have a car ! I payed 81$ per night, try to beat this. It's sure it was not the Hilton but for the price it was great. Only problem is the bed (curved in center)
The location was great. Walking distance to just about everything you need. The problem was the beds sink to the middle, the heater was loud and you had to keep it cranked to keep the room warm, and the parking is non existant unless you have a small compact car. Other-wise the front desk tells you to go down a half a block to a public parking ramp. That's another 15 dollars a day.
I wasn't expecting much given the previous reviews, but we got a really good deal on four nights and wanted to stay in town for our visit. I was very impressed! Our staff interactions were always good, and our room was always made up nice when we came back in the evenings. The hotel wasn't brand new, but it was clean and seemed kept up. The ice machine was down on our floor, but there was another a couple floors down. And the location was great for us, about a block and a half from a free trolley stop, very short walks to either the el or metra, and the museum campus... We parked our car in the garage around the block and left it until it was time to leave. We were able to make the most of our visit, and had comfy beds to come back to at the end of the day!
We chose this hotel due to how close it was to the museum campus. The room was clean, but nothing fancy. We booked for three people, and were only supplied with TWO towels and ONE washcloth each day. If we would call to the front desk, we would either get no answer or they would never bring us more towels. Also, we had to request a blanket and pillow for the hide-a-way bed.
The location was great close to everything, Grant Park was just across the street even it was snowing we enjoyed our stay my daughter had a great time playing with the snow at the park. Our AC broke down during the stay but they were quick to check it and we were transferred immediately when they can't fix it. The staff are very helpful with all our needs and inquiries.
I chose this hotel because of its great location and figured that I couldn't go wrong with a Best Western. I was not disappointed in the location. The bus stop is right outside the door, its walking distance to the "mueseum campus," and it is only 2 blocks to the subway stop. However, we will not likely stay at this location again. The rooms were tiny and stunk. The front desk "help" were rude and unfriendly. The beds were soft and sunk to the middle, we were glad that they ignored our request for 1 king size bed and gave us 2 full size beds instead, this way we could choose which bed was worse! The sheets and towels were see through. The air conditioner had one setting...too cold or off. If you left it on the lowest setting, by 3 a.m. there are ice crystals blowing into the room. We were fortunate to have stopped in at the "Travelodge" down the street and they bent over backwards to help us even though they knew we weren't staying at their hotel. They helped us read the bus and subway maps and pointed out places that would be of interest to us during our stay! We will stay there next time!
I went up to Chicago for my first vacation in a very long time, as well as a college tour. I found this hotel via yahoo travel and read the reviews posted. It sounded good so I took the chance.
The location was very convienent. Right on Grant Park and a few blocks from subway, grocery store and starbucks. Rooms are questionable. Not very tidy, but expected- was on a budget. VERY discouraged by the service. Charged my boyfriend's credit card 3 times and he needed to phone the hotel and credit card company several times before balance was situated. One employee was extremely rude, viciously confronting us about a leaky cooler in front of everyone in the lobby, the employee stated it was "a man's job" and offered absolutely no help. I would never stay at this hotel again! I would be more than happy to pay double for a quiet, clean, and friendly hotel!
