I really enjoyed staying at the Allerton. My boyfriend and I stayed 3 nights and had the most wonderful time! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and cozy. The only thing that I can say that was negative, was the elevators. They were very small and very slow. Also, we had to call management because the air filter on the ceiling was extremely dirty and needed replaced and the towel rack fell down when I was getting my towel. But on the positive side, they were quick to react and had these fixed in no time!

Rooms and entrances very narrow spaces. Only hotel I have ever stayed in that charges an extra for two beds for two people.

The Allerton Hotel Chicago is an excellent choice for it's prime location, daily rate, and convenience. This was a return visit for me to the Allerton within the past year. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

The IPod player in the room is a nice touch, but it's a pity there is no tea or coffee maker.

I went to the Allerton with trepidation after I read the reviews. However, I am pleased to say I had a fabulous stay. The room was clean and perfect for just one person. Yes, the elevators are small...but for the price who the heck cares?! The fitness center was great...yes, it's on the 25th floor and the elevators only go to the 24th...but you are going to work out...for heavens sake climb a flight of stairs!! The location can't be beat. You are right in the heart of the shopping district....fabulous restaurants all around you. The staff was very friendly and helpful...I even ordered room service one night and the food was terrific. I really don't understand all the negative comments. I would stay at the Allerton again without hesitation.

after a great job renovating the allerton, there is only one problem as i see it. the elevators are small and there are too few of them. this may be expected for a building built in 1922. however, we found ourselves avoiding rides during peak hours.

The Allerton Chicago was very comfortable. Would have liked to have coffee maker in the room but l'Occitaine toiletries made up for it. The location was perfect with everything in walking distance.

The Allerton Hotel is in a perfect location for enjoying the scenery of downtown. Located just off the Magnificient Mile, it is within walking distance to anything you would want. Navy Pier, shopping, great Chicago deep dish pizza, and anything else you might need is only a short cab ride away. Hotel check in was very friendly as well as check-out. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was over priced at $18.95 a person. Room was clean and very comfortable. Bathroom is small -- but it is an older hotel and didn't expect it to be large. Location was most important and comfort than size of the bathroom. p.s. water pressure in the shower was magnificient. I didn't want to get out of the shower!

Operative Words: Small Spaces Be aware that the sounds of city life occur throughout the night. As a heavy sleeper, I had little problem with the occasional late-night sirens & car horns. But light sleepers may be more profoundly affected.

This hotel is older (80 some years.) So of course the rooms are small. But they are just recently renovated and look great. They were clean and very cozy. I felt right at home in this hotel. I would recommend this hotel, but if you want a lavish hotel this may not be for you. If you are a practical traveler like am then you will be very happy.

Not overly impressed There was nothing terrible about the stay...but certainly nothing exciting about it either. The Elevators were bad...and there was a strong chemical smell throughout the hotel. I assume cleaning type chemicals.... I'm not dying to go back.

Will return for sure Right on the Mag Mile...close to everything. Parking is $48 and internet $10.

Worth every penny! The room was a bit small, but for that price and location, it was totally worth it. The air conditioning system is a bit noisy, but other than that, the hotel is good.

The Allerton Hotel on Michigan Ave in Chicago was the perfect location. The hotel is right in the middle of everything. Shopping is all within walking distance and the resturant choices in the area are superb. Taxi service to get to our convention was right out the door and the door men were very friendly and had lots of reccomendations for us. We stayed in a petite suite room the room had 5 windows with views of Michigan Ave. I will be staying at the Allerton Hotel on my next trip to Chicago.

Great location. The Allerton is near everything. Rooms were small but a great value compared to the cost of other Chicago Hotels in the same area. They are under some renovations right now 03/08 but that didn't seem to get in the way.

We really liked this hotel! It's right off of Michigan Avenue & we had great experience with the concierge and at the newly remodeled bar. Took a peak at the ballroom on the top floor and it's really beautiful--a secret gem in this city, I'd say!

The Allerton room was fairly small. It was very clean and the ammenities were nice including Soaps and fancy bed linens. Bathroom was dainty with pedistal lav but had a nice shower. Heat worked great on a chilly Chicago night. Parking is expensive but it's always expensive in downtown Chicago no matter where you go. The location is perfect if you like Michigan Ave and it's pretty close to the loop.

This hotel was just ok it was GREAT location. The room was very clean, but way too small. The beds were way too small.

We spent Valentine's day at the Allerton and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpul. They hailed us cabs, checked us in quickly, and had our car waiting that we had vallet parked. I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to stay in the heart of Chi-Town!

This hotel was well worth the price. Most of the hotels in Chicago are so overpriced, so this was a pleasant surprise. The Allerton is an elderly hotel, but it is well maintained and is very clean. The room was nice and the staff did a great job. Highly recommend!

The Allerton has such an amazing location. Right outside the door you are greeted by the apple store to your right, and to your left is the woderful Burberry. Just blocks from the state theater, it is the perfect place to experience Chicago. The hotel staff helpful, treat you as if you belonged to upper east side new york. The rooms are quaint homey and comfortable. A 1st rate recommendation for anyone traveling to chicago on a budget, or even not on a budget.

The Allerton hotel has a great location - right in the middle of the action on Michigan Ave. It was located in such a place that, although there are bus stops very close, we walked everywhere. The room was small - very small for 2 people. However the fact that it was clean, secure & had a great location would cause me to recommend it to those who want to enjoy the pleasures of Michigan Ave without breaking the bank (on lodging, at least).

You can't find a better location than this for dining, shopping and entertainment. The staff was courteous and helpful. It's in pretty good shape for an old hotel. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. The big downside was the price.

The Allerton is in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. Our original room had no bath, but a shower. It was switched upon request. The room was clean and comfortable. Be prepared for a $45 a day valet charge, but it is unlmited calls and returns. There is remodeling going on currently,2/08. All the employees were friendly and helpful. The conceriege was very helpful and we were always pleased with the outcomes of her suggestions.

When I checked in I asked for a room on the quiet Huron side of the building. I was told the hotel was pretty empty and that would not be a problem. I went to my room and found it to be a bit warn (even the fluorescent light in the bathroom was flicking) and looked out the window to see Michigan Ave below. The room stunk of cigarette smoke even though it was a non-smoking floor. There was only one bath towel, one hand towel and one wash cloth in the bathroom. I opened the mini-fridge to find the last occupants open beer and dip. Oh, and the in-room internet connection was not complementary -luckly I could pick-up the Omni's network accross the street! Room service is breakfast only.

The hotel has great location, but of course you did not need me to tell you that. The fitness center on the 25th floor is great with a great view. Even though only one elevator goes up to the 25th floor and it is as if they have tried their hardest to hide away the fitness center. Expect to be left captivated if you go up there to exercise late at night and see the view of Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile in repose. The hotel can be good value if you book through discount online sites (I used priceline).

the hotel was really nice, great staff, and great location. a lot of things where being updated and under construction. they did have a funny name for it. i cant remember it though

wel i think my first time was also my last time.i checked in at 2pm .i was told to come back at 3pm.got back at 3.15pm room was still not ready ,was left sitting in the lobby till 5;45pm.no refreshments offered for ant inconviences,guest who performed because of the wait got better more efficint service then those that made no fuss. no apolgies offered for the inconvience of lack of service.

For years, Crowne Plaza had the Allerton Hotel....a fine, elegant lady of the Magnificent Mile. Great location to all the hottest spots in the Windy City. And the service was second to none. The manager often even remembered you by name only! Well, something happened last year. New owner or management company or both. Slow, ignorant staff from the curb to the checkout. 180 degree turn around...for the worse. Picture this....a huge muddy footprint in the middle of your room that "is all ready for you". Why only ONE muddy footprint and how did MUD get 20 stories up, I'm not really sure. The next room was dirty, you know, in the corners, paint scuffs, etc. And there is never any reason for the staff to be rude. I guess this is why they run specials now for $99. If you want a tall Motel 6, this is the place. For me, my standards are a little higher than that. I'll not be back due to a rude, uncaring staff, and lower overall standards.

Room was very small. Overpriced. Heat did not work in the room. No hot water one morning. No refrigerator or microwave in the room.

It is a beautiful hotel located directly on Michigan Avenue. The hotel is under a renovation currently (expected to be completed beginning of March 2008) and the new rooms are stunning! It is THE place to stay when in Chicago!

I have been to Chicago a few times and we wanted to stay downtown. I read the reviews and must admit I had some concerns. The cab took us to the front door, we were met and they offered to take our luggage. We checked in without ANY problems, they upgraded our room, it was clean,and the staff was very friendly. They were renovating a lot of this but they kept us off those floors. You can't beat the location. Sure it's an older facility, but that's part of the history. We are going back, and we WE WILL stay there again. My Wife is very picky about clean rooms, and she had no concerns. It was clean and very affordable, and our romm was plenty big. When you go to Chicago how much time do you spend in a room anyway?

I did a lot of research into hotels before going to Chicago, as being from Europe and much travelled I know how stardards differ. We, however, were absolutely delighted with what the Allerton had to offer: Perfect location, service, cleanliness, value = 100per cent!!! Would love to be starting my holiday again and would have no hesitation in recommending the Allerton. Speak to Karen and she will delightfully inform you on any tours. We went to the musical Oklahoma at a small lakeshore Theatre, brilliant!! The only, only minus could be that the elevators are a little slow....but thats it! Book it, I guarantee u will enjoy

The type of place to stay when you need a retreat with your spouse! Very cozy rooms, bar area was relaxing, staff was very friendly. Walk out the front door and you are right where you need to be! would return, hopefully soon!! Thank you Allerton!

Front desk and customer service is terrible. There easiest solution is to put someone on hold. It took them 2 days and many irate calls to realize they had spelled a guest name wrong and that is why they could not find him on the system. Manner of speaking with the customer is rude and never apologized for their mistake. In another instant we requested a taxi and were promised one would be there in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later taxi did not arrive and we are told that they had no request order for a taxi! A bit twilight zonish if you ask me!

My husband and I went for a long weekend. When we got to the hotel (around 9:00 pm) , they did not have a room ready for us. They lady at the desk asked us if we had had dinner, we said no, and she said they would treat us to dinner in the hotel restaurant. While we were in the restaurant (very nice, by the way), she brought us our room key. Maybe 15 minutes later, she came back and said that she felt so badly for making us wait, she upgraded our room to a Junior Suite.

The hotel was very nice looking. When we were able to check in early, but we didn't get the room we had booked. It was all because of the internet site we booked it through and not the hotels fault. We needed a non-smoking because of asthma and allergies, but they didn't have any left so all we got was a smoking room. It had the smell, but not as bad as the hallway! Because we didn't get the right room, they upgraded us to a King suite... which was fantastic and a great size! I couldn't complain about being upgraded. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to everything and the concierge lady and bell man were very helpful! We asked one gentleman who worked there if they had a hot tub, and he told us it was on the 24th floor with the fitness center... they didn't have one. I thought this was strange, unless he thought we meant a sauna because this was there. They were able to keep our bags after we checked out for about 6 hours and the bell man made getting a cab very helpful! This was nice. Overall, it was a very pretty hotel and I would go back.

I love my stay at The Allerton Hotel. It is a historical landmark, the staff is extremely friendly, the location was great and the room was beautiful. If you are going to Chicago in the winter, book in their website. They have some super deals for extend stays. Before booking check their offers page, it save us a bundle. By the way, this hotel is no longer a Crowne Plaza.

Great hotel for single travelers! Terrific bed, great shower, plenty of room for bathroom items. Outstanding location. I wouldn't take the family - small rooms, elevators, bathroom. But very nice for one.

The Allerton was to my husband and I was just what we were looking for out of a romantic getaway to the city. It has all the old world charm of the 1930s and we both loved that about it. It has history, with the old radio show that used to be broadcast from the tip top Allerton (I think it was called).

Although some reviews have complained about the size of the room, ours was extremely comfortable and the size was fine. The staff was accomodating and the location doesn't get any better. The downside - the walls are pretty thin. You can hear everything next door and doors slamming up and down the hallways. It's a nice enough place but the noise is so annoying to me that it sort of rains on my parade.

Very good location...minutes away from great food and great shopping, about a 20 min, walk away from Grant Park. Located on the Magnificent Mile...service was good and very helpful for tips on where to go around the city. about two blocks away from the train which is convienient

Our room was nice but the room and bathroom were absolutely tiny. The bathroom had a pedestal sink that left no place to put our toiletries. The elevators were slow and annoying because you had to take two separate elevators to get from the street to your room. Service was poor. I emailed the night before my stay and asked for a crib. They responded saying no problem. The night of my check in I requested the crib and they said they would send one up. I waited twenty minutes to call and check and they said they would check into it. I waited another ten minutes and called again and they said they were out of cribs. Total incompetence. Also we asked for a non smoking room at check-in but our room had a faint smell of smoke.

The room was very nice. Ask for a high floor and away from the elevator. Most people complain about the elevators, and its for good reason. If it is a busy time of day you can wait easily 10-25 minutes for an elevator to get to your room. The rooms are beautiful. Bathroom was great. A view of Magnificent Mile was nice. Overall it was a nice hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for business, as most other hotels in the area were booked. I should have been wary that the Allerton was the only downtown hotel with availability. The staff is very friendly and my room had nice, updated decor. The room was a little smaller than the average downtown hotel room. However, my room did have an odor (I don't know what it was), and the HVAC unit made funny noises about once an hour during my entire stay. The hotel was not as quiet as other hotels, even with the fan running on high (that's my secret for a quiet room at night). The location of the hotel is good, but park at the surface lot on Ohio and St. Clair ($9 if you're in after 3:00 and out by 7:00 the next morning) to save a tom of money. Parking at the hotel is really, really expensive. One of the things I really hated about this hotel was that you enter on the first floor, only to take an elevator to the second floor to transfer to another elevator that takes you to the floor your room is on. This is very inconvenient. There are better ways to provide security than this. Overall, the hotel is adequate at best, but there are better places to stay. If the Allerton is the only hotel that shows availability downtown, I now choose to stay in the western suburbs instead. I'd rather pay the tolls and deal with the added traffic.

After reading some of the reviews on this site I was not expecting more than a tiny room in a good location. The Allerton exceeded my expectations by far. The rooms were more then roomy. The service was great and the location dosen't get much better.
