We stayed at this hotel after arriving in Malaga a day earlier than expected. The hotel itself is clean and the staff at recpetion were helpful. The bedroom we were given (room 112) was quite small but the bathroom was fairly large. There was a small window in the bedroom that looked into some sort of gap between the buildings. Having said all this, we did turn up fairly late in the day and hadn't booked in advance so at the time I was quite pleased. The biggest problem we had was the noise as the walls must be paper thin. There were some very loud snorers in rooms near by! Also, the building next door is being renovated so the drilling and hammering at 8am was a bit of a rude awakening. Overall, I think this hotel was adequate for our needs (fairly inexpensive and had a room available at short notice) but I don't think I'll stay there again.

We stayed here for one night with our teenage boys. We had two rooms. The rooms are plain, but clean. Hallways felt sort of dorm-like to me. Everything was clean, and good AC. Well located to citycentre. We took cab from train station, I don't think it is walking distance. tThe direct train to airport is about 3 blocks away and we did take that. Worked out great and much cheaper than taxi for sure. No one speaks English in town or metro...so you just hope for the best. We just followed the people that had lots of luggage and hoped they were in fact going to airport :) Had a great Paella dinner downtown. Nice place, but one night was enough for me waiting for next day flight to Barcelona.

The room was a little poky and stuffy, but it was fairly quiet, the location was excellent, it was good value for money and the staff were very helpful especially since our plane was delayed and we checked in quite late at night.

Friendly and convenient hotel

I just came back from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Sur. the room was average for the price (69 euros/night) there was no hair dryer and the shower head was terrible, otherwise the hotel was centrally located and there was alot of restaurants and tapas bars nearby,

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in Malaga for two nights in late June, 2004. The hotel is in a small street centrally located in downtown Malaga. We were within walking distance from some of the main attractions such as the Alcazaba, the Cathedral, etc. The bus stop was very close by. The hotel itself was well kept: it was clean and tidy. If you are travelling with your spouse or significant other, make sure to ask for the "matrimonial" bed because otherwise they will put you in room with two separate single beds. Our room was in one of the upper floors. It was somewhat small for two people, but it would be sufficient for a single traveler. The room had air-conditioning and cable TV. They had the BBC World Service and other foreign-language TV programs.

the hotel sur is in a great position. its very close to the main bus station in malaga town centre. number 19 bus from the airport (15 mins. cost one euro) you can get the train too. the hotel is situated.... directions follow..opposite the main shipping port there is a tourist board office..if you stand with your back to the office the hotel is up a small street to the left called trinidad grund. if you turn left and keep walking down a tree lined promenade 10 mins you have the beach. opposite you have fantastic designer shops and hundreds of tapas bars... i was a women traveling alone i stayed for 9 days, the hotel is safe, confortable and very clean, sheets changed everyday. the staff are helpful. you have to visit the dehuesa 'jamon' shop. tapas great wine, food and music. turn out of the hotel on to the main st ( same place as main bus stop almerdia principal) the staff were great friendly..be prepared not to see any english/german etc... you will need to speak some spanish!! i had a great time, behind the university you will find students playing 'spanish guitar' i reccomend the hotel sur!!!

As a single female traveller I liked this hotel as it was within walking distance from the train station connecting to the airport, was central, comfortable, quiet and affordable.I am used to the extortionate English rates for B+B and so the 35 Euros (about £24) per night was acceptable to me given that I had a good sized room with ensuite, TV and aircon.Finding parking spaces in Malaga town is a nightmare and so I was also prepared to pay the 11 E (£6) a night parking cost in the hotel.There was 24 hour reception and the staff were very helpful.There were a few internet and phone locutoria centres just down the road and turning right out of the hotel a short distance away was a tourist info office where copies of the Sur newspaper in English could be obtained. Crossing over the main Alameda road in front of the tourist office you are close to the main shopping area and to the right is the old quarter. A beautiful gardened walk takes you down towards the lighthouse and the beach if you continue right from the tourist office.

My husband and I stayed here just before Christmas 2004. The location was excellent, easy walking distance from all the attractions in Malaga Old Town and also close to the train station. The rooms were very clean with all the facilities you would expect in a decent hotel, this all at a very reasonable price in my opinion of €60 per night. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good city centre hotel, within the wonderful city of Malaga. You'll need a little Spanish but you will all around Malaga, but that's all part of the fun isn't it?.

Stayed in the Sur late November and found it an absolute bargain. At the price it charges, you are looking for cleanlines and not a lot more. I paid less than £30 a night in a large twin room by myself and it was spotless, so was the reception and the corridors. The only luxury is a small lounge behind the reception. The room had a (small) TV, a phone and a large bathroom with plenty of towels. Although the hotel was busy I found it very quiet, the window faces an inner courtyard, if you like looking at plain white concrete walls then it's a good view. Overall, if I was nitpicking I would say that the beds were not that comfy, and I tried both. A good point (in this price range) is that the reception is manned 24 hours, three different guys seemed to operate on shifts and all three were efficient and polite. Outside there are numerous cafe's & bars right on the doorstep, and weirdly, a late night Russian produce shop that is convenient. The main shopping street (Larios) is only across the road (1min) and although the street outside is a little seedy, at the pace the Malaga is going upmarket I don't think it will be long before that is sorted. Unless you are looking for a luxury break then I don't see why you would spend double the price 100m away across the Alameda. IMO it is way too cheap for it's location and cleanliness.
