I stayed in the hotel with a Trafalgar tour group. It was new and modern with a great pool. There are no great restaurants or shops nearby. We didn't look for a bus to downtown, but took taxis instead. Although the fare should have been 12 Euros -one time, the cab driver got "lost" because the hotel was so "new", and it ended up being about 20 Euros. If I was booking it on my own, I think I would like to pay a little more and be closer to downtown.
+ Great hotel with good service and facilities like pool, sauna and spa. excelent breakfast. - Its located far from the city - and there are absolutely no restaurants og shopping facilities around. however, we had the hotel bus taking us to the city tour bus, which goes all around barcelona - so its a problem that can be solved.
+ Good location for where i needed to be in barcelona. comfortable, clean and well kept. - Bit of a grumpy barman on day one who virtually threw us out at midnight.
+ Impressed with hotel overall, staff were friendly & welcoming, rooms clean and food was good. - A little too far out, don't like to sound too negative however maybe one english chanel other than the news pn the tv!!
+ Nice room, modern appointments, clean, good value for the money. quiet, peaceful area very near a very large and magnificent rose garden. - Finding an english speaker was sometimes a challenge. for example after several attempts to order a meal at the hotel restaurant the first day, we were finally served by the hotel manager. reception had rudimenary to fair english skills but always tried to be helpful. taxis always had to be ordered and sometimes there was a long wait (+ 30 minutes). hotel appears a short distance from diagonal, but that distance is downhill (or uphill on the way back).
+ Everything was like it should be. - The address led my taxi (with an tomtom) to downtown barcelona. you should change it in on your site in: c/ santa rosa, 33 08950 esplugues de llobregat (barcelona)
I am staying at the ABBA Garden during a conference so the price is ridiculous (€470 a night!) for quite an average hotel. To be fair, the rooms are clean and the staff are friendly but the food is distinctly average and the location is not great (it's quite a hike to the centre of town). If you want a relaxing short break at a Comfort Inn type hotel this could be the one for you, but anyone on a short weekend looking to be in a more central or cooler location should probably try elsewhere.
+ La gente - Non sapevo che aveva l'idromassaggio!! avrei portato il costume
+ Nice breakfast, clean, helpful staff - The hotelreceptionists were not so experienced
+ The personnel is nice, the breakfast was excellent, the bed s are confortable
+ The breakfasts were fantastic.the rooms were well kept and stylish. - The outdoor pool wasnt heated unfortunately in october.
+ Excellent room, staff, and facilities. friendly, comfortable, and helpful. - Somewhat isolated, a nice safe walk to the metro line. metro is superior, maybe the best in europe.
+ Nice view, large rooms and friendly staff - The hotel was at the top of a very steep hill. txai drivers don't know where it is as it is new.
+ The shuttle service from the hotel was very efficient and saved me alot of money during my stay. - Food in the hotel was a bit expensive like a sandwich for 11 euros that way too much.
My wife and I have just returned from our holiday in at the Abba Garden Hotel in Barcelona. The hotel was the best part of the stay but there are one or two things I would like to warn members of. Firstly, Its almost impossible to book on a room only basis as there simply is not a cafe or shop for miles. This is essentially in the business area of the city, up a steep hill and is isolated. We had to upgrade to B&B at a cost of 100 euro per night in order to ensure a breakfast (an extra 20 euro but worth it.) Secondly, dont believe the reports about a short walk from the tube station. Its a good 15 minute walk up a vertical incline and with heavy cases on arrival, this became an impossible task in the 90 degree heat. Always take a cab from the airport for 25 euro when arriving and leaving. Thats way I titled the report' get to know the 22 bus' because it then becomes your link, or escape from the City. it takes about 25 minutes but is air conditioned and clean. The hotel was quiet, not commercial in any way, had a fantastic pool which was never crowded (see pictures) and the rooms were clean and well equiped.
13 parking fee for one night for hotel guests incredible.Rooms are big but insufficient cleanliness for that standard of HOTEL.
My husband and I had a lovely time at the Abba Garden Hotel in July 2007. We choose this hotel as we knew it had a pool and was aware that it was outside of town. We wanted a quite place to relax and chill, as well as being able to sightsee and we were not disappointed. It is a good quality hotel with good sized clean rooms. At breakfast you had ample to choose from, a wide range of hot or cold (only disappointment there was that they didn't replenish the fried eggs!). There is a large bar area, inside and out. The pool is very big for the size of the hotel and well maintained. Unfortunately like another visitor remarked it was a shame that the loungers did not have plastic covers on as they became quite uncomfortable after a while. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, but the waiters could have been a little more welcoming! If you wanted to eat in the restaurant in the evening it would cost you 23 euros for a 3 course meal (not that we did). We found that the no. 63 bus could be caught just down from the hotel into the centre of town for 1.25 euros (each) and took about 20 mins. This meant that you avoided the long walk to the metro station (which was alright on the way there but tough walking back up the steep hill at the end of the day). However we did use the metro which again was 1.25 euros. We would definitely use this hotel again and would thoroughly recommend a trip to Barcelona.
we have just returned after a 5 day stay at this hotel. we chose it due to the out of town location, hoping to chill by the pool in nice garden settings! Beware the hard plastic loungers did not have any mattress covers on them,. so we could not relax as intended. When we confronted the hotel they said that the ones they had were 10 yrs old and they might be having some replacements next week. No good to us then. We had to then travel into Barcelona everyday which was quite a distance. On our last day my husband asked if he could sit on a chair from the outdoor patio area on the grass as it was more comfortable but they refused. Also beware of the pickpockets on the metro. My husband had his wallet stolen from his buttoned short pockets at the side of his leg. Only going one stop....very professional never felt a thing. The one member of staff helped with phoning to cancel our debit card. Otherwise 90% of the staff seemed long faced and unfriendly.
The Abba Garden, as I learned, is a fairly new hotel. The rooms are huge and clean, the beds bigger than they were in any other hotel I stayed in on my tour of Europe, and the pool was great. No, it is not in the city center, but depending on where you're coming from a taxi is only 12 (from the Placa de Catalunya) to 20 (from Port Olympia) euro and the hotel is convenient to a bus stop as well. The only downside is that, because it is new, a lot of the taxi drivers do not know where it is, and you have to use the hospital across the street as a reference point.
Myself and my 3 sisters stayed here in march havindg been in barca before and stayed near the rambla this was a bit of a shock beeen so far out . but the hotel was far better quality than in the center . having said that we loved been down at the port olympia at night it was wher we found a fab irish bar kennedys that has great live entertainment it cost us 25 euro in and home so 50 euro on cabs we where kuck that we had four to share or it could get pricey thanks to this site i kept telling the taxi men it was near the hospital SAN JOAN they had not club wher the hotel was but if its a quite evening after a days site seeing your after it is very relaxing in this lovel hotel
Hotel acorde con sus 4 estrellas. Camas enormes.
+ The room - We couldn't find the hotel from the metro station.
+ Its peaceful nice and quiet. really felt at home. don't remember the last time i enjoyed my stay in a hotel this much. - I didn't like the fact that the swiming pool didn't have any heating and that there was no place to changing room
+ Excellent on everything except...... - Location. but i think is fair for that price
As previous reviewers have mentioned, this hotel is NOT in the centre of the city - its about a €15 cab ride away. What you do get, however, is the bonus of a fantastic pool in a lovely garden. Its not comparable with Asian resort hotels, but its pretty good for Europe. It also has a paddle tennis court - imagine squash crossed with tennis. We made up our own rules, but hey... Rooms were fine - nothing special. Food options limited, and restaurant and bars close early for Spain. Reception staff were OK. In summary, a good bet if you need a pool and don't mind the travel into town.
Me and Sister booked four nights at the Abba Garden to celebrate Mums 50th birthday and we were not dissapointed. We were concerned that the location of the hotel would be problematic, but it was a welcome relief in the middle of July to go back to a lovely, clean and cool hotel with pool, sunbathing and spa areas for a late afternoon siesta and refresh after a morning of sightseeing and over indulgent lunches. Abba provide a bus to Zona Universitat metro stop, or take a walk through the gardens as we did, which are very pleasant, quicker and not as steep as the roads. Taxis are very cheap and reception will book them for you very quickly to the tube station if necessary, we enjoyed the walk and the thought of a quick dip in the pool after was a good way to work off the lunches. Metro is quick and simple to use (3 day passes good value for money 13E), be prepared though sometimes for a wait though at the end of the evening for taxi home. Excellent tapas and restaurants in Eixample, try Tragaluz couple of blocks up on the left from Passeig de Gracia tube. Barcelona itself is just fantastic, would highly recommend the hotel and the city and we hope to return in the future.
Okay, yes--the location is not central. I had finished visiting Paris and Amsterdam where I had to figure out how to use their metro systems and by the time I reached Barcelona (and this hotel) I was too tired to figure out yet another cities bus/subway system--so I cabbed/taxied it everywhere in Barcelona. Why I'm telling you this?? Because I didn't think the location was a problem since I just had taxis take me everywhere. It wasn't that expensive at all (cabbing it, that is). Taxi from the hotel to the airport in the morning was 10 euros. 10-13 euro to Las Ramblas (one way). 10 Euro to Park Guel (Gaudi's). 7 Euro from Park Guel to Sagrada Familia. Basically the hotel was great and since I used taxis to go everywhere, the location was never a problem for me. Nobody speaks English though which is frustrating, but I still got by.
While the hotel was really good in so many ways, this last morning and the way it was handled ruined our holiday. We will not be recommending the Abba Garden to anyone. I also did not like the way, they couldn't give me a receipt at the end of the stay to view how much it had cost. I always like to view this to ensure I wasn't overcharged, but they told me I couldn't have it.
The location of this hotel is absolutely awful. The closest metro station is Zona Universitaria and then you have about a 1km uphill walk. The hotel runs a tram from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm and from 5pm to 8pm (so you can't get back during siesta) which is supposed to drop you at Maria Christina (a good metro station) but our experience is that they are sometimes lazy and drop you at Zona Universitaria instead. We also had one driver who floored the car right through a red light, taking all the guests lives at risk. You also need to call the hotel to get the tram to pick you up, it doesn't simply stop and pick up guests (we found that out the hard way). The tram doesn't run on Sunday at all. Remember that this is Spain, where normal dinnertime is 10PM. There is no way to get back from the hotel after dinner except by taxi, since even the bus that goes near the hotel stops at 10:30PM. Buses are 63, 78 and 22. The buses are located about 200m from the hotel, down a small hill. If you are travelling by Metro late at night, take the Metro to Maria Christina and hail a taxi from there, it's the closest station with a lot of traffic. If you were hoping for a local shop to pick up some supplies, you will not find any. This is a residential location with nothing around. The hotel had a fire on the 15th of April (electrical malfunction of the dry sauna). The gym is therefore unavailable and many of the rooms, hallways and especially the elevators smell of burnt wood. The room itself was well equipped and with the usual amenities. A few TV channels in many different languages including English, French, German, Spanish and Polish. The beds were very hard (too hard for us, but that's a personal preference). The decor was contemporary European and spacious. There is a minibar in the room and enough room to put your own bottle of water for storage in the fridge. The hotel bar prices were not unusual for a hotel. Dinner was available early, for those who have trouble with Spanish dinner time. The restaurant prices were reasonable. The restaurant was small and sometimes caters to tour groups which caused them to turn away people. There are only two other (expensive) restaurants that are even within walking distance of the hotel. The food at the restaurant was good, though definitely not classic Spanish fare... definitely more Continental.
my husband and i stayed at the abba gardens hotel oct 2005 for 4 days. the hotel is quite new and modern and very nice you can not fault the actual hotel at all. our hotel room was really nice and we had a long balcony (not all rooms have this)we did not request this and did not pay any extra we must have been lucky! the brekfast was good enough to set you up for the day, we did not use the resturant in the evening as it looked a bit pricey and also you need to dine out in the evening as there is some good resturants in the city centre. the hotel bar was nice and plesant to enjoy a drink after a hard day sightseeing also if you walk back from the nearest metro you may possibly need one! to say the least it is a steep hill to walk up on the way back! this was by far a massive negative point the location is not great! we also read reviews about the location and did not think this would be a problem as we are fit and still young (ish) but it was after walking it a few times it put a downer on the holiday and it was hard to hail a cab when we got off the metro. so we got cabs to the city centre in the end.(the walk from the nearest metro is not too bad it is the hill that gets you and when you have been walking around all day this is not a great end to the day as you may(as we did) then want to go out in the evening and have to do it again) if you are travelling with an other couple the taxis will work out better than if you are just the two of you..... having said all that the hotel is very good value for money and the pool area looked really nice, we did not use it as it was not warm enough but i would say it was very nice indeed......so if you dont mind the extra walking...or having to pay for taxis....this is a nice modern hotel...that is a bit far out of the city centre.
This hotel was very nice, large rooms and good service from helpful and friendly staff. Just one word of warning - make sure you have the full address of the hotel written down for cab drivers, as it is very new and my driver didn't recognise the name. Especially important for travellers like me who only know a couple of words in Spanish! Would highly recommend this hotel. It is only a ten minute walk from the nearest Metro station, however there is an uphill walk on the way back so it may be better to take taxis if you're not feeling energetic.
Hotel Abba Gardens is a relatively new hotel situated roughly 15 minutes from Barcelona airport by taxi (approx 20-25 euros). The hotel itself is modern and functional appealing to both business users and families/couples etc. The rooms are very spacious, each with their own seperate corridors (once inside the main door) to increase one's privacy. The bathroom is well laid out with plenty of surface space for all your belongings. Some rooms come with their own small balconies which offer a nice view out onto the pool area. The pool itself is a good size and ideal for swimming lengths or simply just for children to play in. If you are thinking about doing a lot of swimming, I would definitely recommend bringing goggles as there was a lot of chlorine in the water. There were always plenty of sun loungers available and it never felt too crowded. The pool bar/restaurant was a bit disappointing and the standard of food and promptness of service was not great. I did not think that the selection of food was good value for money, and for that reason alone, ate out a lot or brought lunch back to the hotel. Apart from this however, there were many other excellent aspects to this hotel. The attitude and friendliness of the staff was excellent and they all spoke a good level of English. The hotel also offers a free minibus service into the nearest town shopping district on Avenida Diaganol which can save you 5 euros. If you want to go into the main centre of Barcelona i.e Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya, the hotel will organise a taxi for you which costs roughly 10-12 euros one way. One piece of advice when getting a taxi back to the hotel - Tell the taxi driver it is near "Hospital de San Joan de deu." As it is a relatively new hotel, a lot of taxi drivers hadn't heard of it. Overall I felt like I was really on holiday when I stayed at Abba Gardens. It was slightly out of the all hussle and bussle which was nice and relaxing, and yet only a quick taxi ride in for all those shopping trips and much awaited nights out. My friends and I are already planning our next visit back.
Stayed 4 days in a deluxe room with a large, private terrace with a great view of the city and Med Sea. Staff speaks English and food is great. Priced right, friendly. 5 minute bus ride to downtown for great shopping. The bed was a bit firm, but the decor was great and the entire hotel was very clean. We would stay there again for sure!
The hotel was REALLY REALLY good, it had a sauna steam room, gym and swimming pool and the time I went, most of the time me and my friends had these things to ourselves. when we did share the swimming pool with other people it was never packed. the staff are really friendly, and the service is really good. they set up taxis for you and the hotel is really clean. In the future i will go to this hotel for definate. The one and only disadvantage about this hotel is that its on a hill and if your walking from the metro station, you may find it quite tiring as its about a 20/5 min walk. But if u catch taxi its only two mins and very cheap e.g. 1/2 euros. on your way to the metro station or other places ABBA GARDEN hotel has its own bus where it can drop you off...for free. overall the hotel is really really good and i would recommend it to anyone.
I have just returned from a 4 day stay in this Hotel and would highly recommend it. Yes it is about 20mins from the centre by metro (with a short walk to the metro) or about €12 for a taxi but in exchange you get a decent size room, excellent pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and quality fittings all for the price of a Travelodge in the UK! I would definiftly return here.
Great hotel very clean, helpful staff, clean rooms, amenities good and it was well priced. The only draw backs to this hotel are the location and the breakfast buffet. The hotel is well out of the city centre. The web site claims they are 10 minutes from a metro station which they are when you walk down the hill in the morning but at the end of the day coming back it is a long hot walk and infinitely longer than 10 minutes. At least the metro in barcelona is cheap and easy to follow. Location also means that if you want to go out in the evening you are dependent on taxis. The breakfast buffet was ok if you were there early, it runs from 7-10 and if you turn up at 9 or later there is very little fruit available and what is there is limp and unappetising. Also the hot food is put out at 7 and just left out under heat lamps that do nothing but dry the eggs and allow the sausages to sit in opuddles of grease. On the plus side if you go to barcelona to shop they do provide a free shuttle service to some of the larger shopping centres. Having said that I would go back to this hotel but my first choice would be for somewhere similar but closer to the city centre.
I stayed at the Abba Gardens Hotel in Barcelona and would like to say that I had the most beautiful time of my life staying there. It was soo nice and pieceful there, I would recommend everyone to go and stay at Abba Garden hotel. The Shuttle Service is also very good. I had such a good time that I am now planning to book my holiday to barcelona again and stay at Abba Garden hotel once again.
I stayed at the abba garden in April 2004 and it is in excellent hotel highly recommended, good size rooms, nice shower very clean hotel. The hotel itself is about 10 mins on the tube away from the city centre which is great the tube costs next to nothing and its just a short 10 min work from the station to the hotel. Theres even a beautiful park to walk thorough as u make ur way to/from the hotel. Barcelona is the most stunning city i have ever seen(and ive been to a few) would certainly recommend and the abba garden is a great place to base yourself.
Sorry for the late review, forgot all about it until booking another holiday. Stayed here for three nights in September 04. The Hotel is fanatastic, with unbelievable views over the city. The only thing i can pick at is the restaurant does'nt have much choice, hence we ate elsewhere. Although staff were more than happy to recommend places to eat. The room was everything you expect from a 4 star, and it was a nice place to relax, away from the bustle of the city. The Metro is nothing more than a 5-10 min walk through a lovely park, and the line takes you right to La Ramblas which cost around 3 Euro's return. Again at night catching a taxi back from La Ramblas cost between 10-14 Euro's. I found it best to take a map with me and point to the taxi driver where i wanted to go, as my Spanish is zilch. To me it was better being away from the crowds in the and would recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm for one will definately be using this hotel if ever i return.
We spent three nights at the Abba Garden Hotel in Barcelona. The only minus is its location. Despite being beautifully situated on a hilltop, it is away from the city, requiring taxis for most sightseeing. The Metro is great, though, so you can go almost anywhere for a small cost. The hotel is new, clean, comfortable, and the rooms are quite large -- for Europe. The hotel has tennis courts, a large swimming pool, and a children's playground. The restaurant is good, but overpriced. We saved money (after the first night) by taking taxis to wonderful Catalonian bistros and retaurants. The help was SOOOOO friendly, efficicient, and made us feel most welcome. MUST SEES: Catalonian Natinal Museum; Picasso Museum; Sagrada Familia church; Joan Miro Museum.
Abba gardens....more like Abba Gard- ya! This place was just swell, great service, great consierge, great rooms. Only problem was it was a bit out of town but what the hell nothing perfect. Enjoy your stay!!
22 of us travelled to Barcelona for our friend's hen weekend in April 2004. This hotel was excellent however it is in the middle of nowhere and most of the taxi drivers you meet will claim to have know knowledge of the hotel! Many of our group were charged 30 euros plus for a journey that actually costs 9 euros. Beware - do not get into any taxis untill you have clarified that the drivers know exactly where you are going, otherwise you may end up very out of pocket like many of our group.
We went to Barcelona for three nights, the Abba Garden was a very enjoyable part of our stay. The room was very comfortable, with satellite T.V, hair dryer, telephone and mini bar. All staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The staff were always ready to help, recommending good restaurants, booking us a table and would also book our cab. This hotel had a lovely pool area, where we relaxed in the morning before going on our sight-seeing trips. The pool was important to us as this was the reason we chose to stay at the Abba Garden, we were not dissappointed. To get to the city centre we went by bus, the nearest stop was just 2 minutes walk away. Cabs were also very cheap.
Very good hotel, pool nice (if you need one when you are in such a fantastic city). Although there is a 10 minute walk to the metro (through a lovely park) you can catch a 22 or 63 bus from about 200 yds away which takes you right into the city in 15 - 30 minutes depending on traffic. The area and hotel are both clean and quiet - a major bonus in Barcelona. We found the location fine but not if you want door to door service. Beware the taxi fare from the airport - we paid 24 euros on the way and 20 on the way back - this was for 4 people. We heard that others had been charged 40 euros. Rooms are very good and spacious. The bar was expensive but because of the easy bus route back we ate out centrally and returned later so it didn't make alot of difference.
We loved the hotel itself. The room was bigger than we imagined, clean, and equipped with everything we needed (like refrigerator and safe). The hotel is very nice, the service is good, the buffet breakfast was huge, and the dinner in the restaurant, though very expensive, was exquisite and romantic. But, the location of the hotel is really bad. It's on a top of a hill in a residential area with a school and hospital, but nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING, to do nearby. The nearest metro is 15 minutes walk away, and the return walk uphill is very difficult, so you'll find yourself using cabs just to return from the metro to the hotel. It will take you a few days to figure out where in the 20 minute walk radius you can even find something to eat; In the first day, we walked around for more than an hour searching for a grocery store, restaurant, or something. In the next few days we learned that there is an expensive restaurant 2 minutes away (but it is opened only in very specific hours) and a cluster of cheap restaurants 20 minutes away, but that is all. For anything else, including a grocery store, you'll need to take the metro, and take the difficult hike uphill (or a cab) back from it, something that can easily take an hour. But, if you intend to only exit and return to the hotel once a day, and have good legs, you might want to consider the Abba Gardens anyway, if you can get it for a good price.
I stayed at the Abba Garden in May 2004. The staff are very friendly speak very good english and rooms are very clean. Unfortunatley the positioning of the Hotel is very bad it is not near any tourist areas and in order to access these you need you travel by Metro or get a bus which in both cases you need you walk for about 15 minutes. The catering facilities are not brilliant each night there is a set menu with not alot of variety. Drinks at the bar are very expensive we were charged twelve euro for a measure of whiskey, unfortunately there are not even any bars nearby again you would need to travel by Metro or bus. Hotel is not recommeded to anyone with young children or anyone seeking a lively holiday.
The staff at the hotel really helped to make our trip to Barcelona memorable. The hotel is fairly new, rooms were spotless with a balcony overlooking the patio and pool area which looked very inviting but we didn't attempt it in the rain! Everyone spoke excellent English which helped us as we didn't speak any Spanish and they were extremely polite and friendly. The hotel is situated at the top of a hill and there is about a 15 min walk to the nearest bus stop or metro, but it was nice to get away from the main hustle and bustle of Barcelona.
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, clean and tidy rooms everything you'd expect from a four star hotel - only don't make the same mistake we did, getting the street name mixed up with another street which is more central in Barcelona. However this hotel is easy to find and has great transport links, there is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill -numbers 78 and 63 then night bus 12, or a short walk away is the Metro station Line 3 - Zona Universitaria. The Hotel is located near a hospital - Sant Joan de Deu - don't worry though you won't hear any ambulance sirens. We stayed here for 3 nights and wished it were longer! 10 out of 10!
I staye dhere during Easter of 2003. It's a brand new hotel so lovely and clean, nice decor etc. The room I got was MASSIVE. It had an internal hallway it was so big. The bathroom was huge and had a double sink which is always great. Breakfast was lovely, they had fruit, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, cereal you name it. We ate it. Staff were more than willing to help with tourist questions and were lovely to us the whole time. The only bummer was the pool wasn't yet opened, but it should be now. They have a gym with spa and sauna as well which we didn't use, but it looked good. The other slight downside was it was about a 20 min walk to the Metro stop and another 15 mins on the train to the Las Ramblas. This wasn't that bad as the hotel was so impeccable. If you want to be close to everything then this may not be your place, but if you don't mind a walk (it's actually quite a nice walk and you can go through a park on the way) then it's worth it to have such a nice place to stay.
Any positive impressions we may have had about this hotel were wiped out by a major problem. We booked 3 nights at the hotel, but due to a train strike in Portugal, we were unable to arrive until the third night. We notified the hotel as soon as we knew we'd be late. Upon arrival on the third night, we were met with compete indifference regarding our request to not charge for the first 2 nights. Attempts by Expedia to resolve the issue got the same response. The staff would not consider a refund, and did not appear to even pay any attention to our request.
