The hotel restaurant serves a good selection of tapas and the menu del dia is around 15 euros.
The breakfast has a good choice of food but is pricey and there are numerous cafes and restaurants nearby.
The spa of the hotel is located on 4th floor with a pool, sauna and sun deck and is a perfect place to relax.
The hotel garage is 15 euros per night and El Altet airport is 15 km away.
The staff are efficient and professional - a fantastic hotel where you will be well looked after.
I stayed at this hotel around the Easter weekend, which meant they were charging higher prices for the rooms and the hotel was over crowded in my opinion. My room although nicely furnished and clean, was overlooking a busy street and builders in the opposite hostel could see right into our room and it was very very noisy - not the relaxing atmosphere I'd expect on a holiday. Do not pay extra for breakfast, the service is absolutely appalling, many a time I had to get up and attempt to get someone's attention as the waitresses simply ignored you until your table was overflowing with plates. The food was ok but they need to hire new waitresses as many were so grumpy you felt anxious about asking for anything. Another bad point was the upstairs pool, it was tiny and not clean or well maintained. The upstairs area in peak time was so overcrowded that people were sat on the floor as there were no sun loungers left. No one was working on the bar so you had to pay ridiculous room service prices if you wanted some food. The reception staff were nice and helpful and the hotel was in a convenient location but overall it was no way 5* service.
This is an amazing hotel. The only reason I didn't rate it Excellent is because they didn't have a kettle inside the hotel room. BUT! The rest is truely amazing! The friendly staff greeted us with icey cold glasses of Iced Tea as we checked in. The hotel room is chic and comfortable with fluffy pillows and generous toiletries. The rooftop terrace is beautiful and you can honestly stay here the entire trip and feel relaxed. The wellness spa was lovely however, only one person works there so my fiance and I couldn't get treatments simultaneously. The famous buffet breakfast is worth the extra Euros as it's easy to just pop downstairs each morning for a tasty breakfast instead of trying to find places to eat in the mornings. The staff all speak english and suggested us to take the tram to other nearby beaches that are not as crowded. neighbouring beaches include San Juan, El Campello, and Benidorm. All accessible by a local tram station located close to the hotel. This hotel is within minutes walk to the closest beach which. Beach towels are available for hire in a cute summer tote bag. The only thing I didn't like were the taxi drivers at the airport. They totally try to rip you off by pressing a magic button on their meter. As there was no english meter rules inside the cab (spanish only) it was difficult to dispute the cab fare. So we just ended up paying Euro17 each way when the metre clearly said Euro13.50. Oh well...Fantastic hotel and an amazing place for a lovely beach holiday. Highly recommend Hospes Amerigo.
Just had our second stay at the Amerigo, service, food is second to none, however it is starting to show its age, the carpets (cream) up the floor corridors are badly stained and desperately need cleaning, and the rooms now need re-decorating to keep its status. Some of the other reviews are quite right when saying the bars are souless however there are plenty to choose from surrounding the hotel. Overall, good, but not 5-star anymore.
Had a great time whilst staying at the Amerigo. Excellent rooms, cleanliness, service and location. The restaurant is something to sample and the Senzone Tapas bar also enjoyable. Warning to Brits eating there, just remember, that they do not burn the meat in Spain, so medium with steak and lamb can be rare to us. Just tell them how you like it and it will be served. Did wish that they had more than Sky News channel for us Brits, as it was a big sport weekend when we were there and a bit of in-room entertainment, as the weather was poor, would have helped.
What a great hotel. A five star chic building in the very heart of Alicante city, near to the town hall. 5 Mins from beaches and 1 minute from nightlife, bars and explanade and marina. The rooms are lovely and are almost like little suites .... settee and flat screen tv and dvd with a range of dvd´s to order. Lovely comfy beds. Elec blinds for window. Bathroom lovely two sinks and lots of delish toiletires. It´s the cleaness, cripsness and sheer indulgent comfort that you initially feel in the rooms, but on closer inspection it is the little details that make it even more special. Books on sleeping and dreaming, lovely chocolates on the table, the elegant furniture, the bathrobes, the organic soaps. We also went to the Senzone tapas bar which is part of the hotel, very chic and only 4 Euros for glasses of fizz cant be bad, but tapas quite expensive... and truly not that great, 5 euros for a small salmon open sarnie ... and a lamb kebab that was undercooked. Salad was fine ... pricey though all in all for the quality. Better at the marina for food I think, or other restaus in town. But the bar was nice and had a chic feel though lacked atmosphere really .. probablty cos all the clients were from the hotel, so felt a bit lacking.Went to the Barrio and to something called meson de something which was a pokey little bar which you get access to through a tiny wooden door .... fab jazz , chilled music, graffiti all over the walls , but there was something about the place, it was tiny downstairs but completely addictive ... all types of people in there from young 20´s to late 50´s. The mojitos out of the silver kettle with mint were the best I´ve ever tasted .... !!! well worth a visit.
es gibt nichts zu verbessern
We booked this hotel on the strength of other reviews, and were not disappointed. This is without doubt the best hotel in Alicante It's location is perfect just a block from the beach and with loads of tapas bars and restaurants within a short walk. It's been beautifully converted from an old building into a sleek designer hotel & spa. There is a roof top pool & sun deck, and spa on the top floor, with views to the cathedral and castle on one side and the sea on the other. The room was modern and clean, with a mini bar (not free soft drinks now alas) The bathroom had a superb shower with excellent quality toiletries. The breakfast, though not cheap was worth every penny - trust me you will not regret treating yourself to this. it is like a Michelin star breakfast - I doubt whether you will ever find a better one anywhere. There is a huge amount of gorgeous pastries, fruit, juices, ham, etc. But it is in the details where this hotel really exceeds expectation. Try the jams, especially the parma -violet one. The hotel's own modern Senzone Tapas bar is well worth a visit - it's excellent. But the tapas bar just round the corner Taberna del Gormet (on Calle San Fernando) is one of the best tapas bars I've ever been to. It's simply exceptional. The Pan con tomate is so simple yet delicious Also you can get a selection of 6 montaditos or canapés - they are specatacular, as are the rice dishes. Alicante is a great place for a city break, good beaches, compact enough to walk around, a great hotel to use as a base, and fantastic food. It's also very Spanish, luckily the only time you'll have to put up with drunken Brits will be at the airport!
I joined a group of friends on this trip and I was pleasantly surprised to find this modern hotel in quite a dusty side street. I believe it is buildt in an old nunnery hence the shape of the windows. We booked on Designhotels.com and the deal we chose was a golf package which included breakfast, packed lunch (not very exciting but still just about ok) and one evening meal on one of the days. None of my friends played golf, but I played at Alicante Golf (26 Euros by taxi return) and it was a real pleasure - the green fee was included in the hotel package (normally nearly 80 Euros). Wow, what a bargain for me. We went in March but the weather (perhaps we were fortunate?) was warm (T-shirts for UK people) and only one day was cloudy. So for me this was a real bargain and would have been even more of a bargain if I played more than one round of golf. The breakfast was lovely - cooked and buffet and there was a large selection of exquisite pastries. We had a sampler meal at their restaurant which was lovely too (and at 45 Euros normally - it was all the more nicer because it was included in the price). The rooms were modern and included bathrobes and nice toiletries. The pillows were divine! The only thing I would say is that the room had a strange open plan arrangement so there was no bathroom door (but frosted glass door for toilet) - so not so good for shy friends sharing! But the raindrop showerhead was fantastic. On the 4th floor there is a small covered (and heated) pool with jacuzzi jets and waterfall jets (hard to explain but they give you a great back massage). Next to the pool was a sundeck and there were towels that you could use. There were also areas where you could just sit on nice comfy sofas and survey the vista which was enhanced by the castle on the hill (Santa Barbara - worth visiting - get a cab up there 4 Euros and walk down through the Peace Park). The Amerigo is one of a chain of hotels around Spain all of which are 5 star. There isn't much in Alicante besides sun, beach and golf. I'll definitely be looking out for a golf package again next year around March time - because the green fees are quite expensive and if the weather is horrible, I'm not sure I'd want to traipse round a golf course because I'd booked in advance and couldn't get a refund. There are several very long public beaches just a short walk away (about 10 mins). There is also a very reasonable restaurant called El Buen Comer on a street behind the hotel (in fact it is on the same street as the back of the hotel) with a great set menu and lovely calimari.
Stayed here for 3 nights in April all the previous positive reviews were correct. Room cost E115 per night via Hotels own website.I found Alicante to be an excellent short break location great beach, vibrant nightlife with a great selection of places to eat and bars in the old town. The hotel is literally 5minutes walk from the beaches, shops and nightlife and everywhere is so reasonably priced compared to the likes of Barcelona or Marbella. Overall a lovely hotel with 5 star facilities...Go and Enjoy...
We came across this hotel purely by chance. We had been staying with the in-laws who have a gaff in the Sierra Nevadas' near to Granda and due to the last minute we could only get a flight into Alicante. We left, leaving four hours to drive to Alicante, when it should have been two and a half. There was a serious road traffic accident on the autovia, as such we missed our 2140 flight, we got there at 2110 so no complaints. Having changed our flight we went to airport information and just asked for the best hotel in Alicante and were provided with the above hotel. Very easy to find from the the airport, out of the carpark, into Alicante, along the promenade, door to door 10 mins. The hotel is situated in a side street one street back from the prom and is situated in a refurbed monastery. Upon checking in i spoke spanish, the staff spoke english, this was a nice gesture as both of us got to converse in our second language. We paid 225 euros' for a room, breakfast and cap parking, i thought that reasonable. They have a small underground car park with 12 places, its very tight i have to say. We rented a Porsche Cayenne and it was tight but a squeeze. The car park entrance is situated to the right of the lobby and is a large metal shutter wiuth an entry phone with a very steep slope to the lower level. There are baggage trolleys and lifts in the car park or you can call the concierge. It is a very secure car park so you will have no worries on this front. On checking in we were given room 222 which is at the front of the hotel on the 2cd floor above the main entrance. The room was a standard room but finished to a very good standard. The bed measured 86 inches wide by 84 inches depth, egyptian cotton sheets, duck down pillows, very nice. There was a brown leather chaise and a 26" Samsung LCD with full sky channels, multi region dvd and an excellent dvd libary avaliable from reception. The bathroom was a strange layout. The bath and shower was almost in a cuboard, but it worked well. The toilet area was huge along with the vanity area in front of the sink which was huge. The bathroom had a hair dryer, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, nail file, shower cap, soap, shoe shine, sewing kit, toothbrushx2 and tooth paste, all adequate, unbranded and comiserate with the standard of the hotel. Room was funished in brown and orange, superbly clean and cool. There was in an in room safe and a minni bar which you had to pay for if used. A beer was 5 euros which was ok, a half bottle of non vintage nicholas feuillate champers was 68 euros which was a tad expensive, but it is a five star hotel. Having checked in our bags were taken up and we headed straight to the restaurant for Tapas. The Restaurant is across a little narrow courtyard where a jazz saxophonist was playing, because of the layout it sounded amazing and very haunting. We sat at the bar for tapas, which the majority of people were doing. Its a very modern take on Tapas, all the staff are multi lingual and the menus are avaliable in many differing dialects. We ordered patas bravas, chorizo with red vine, sesame chicken skewers, and calamari and octopus with black ink. All well cooked, quickly served, piping hot and nicely presented, the portions were huge. Enough for one between two. They have a wonderful wine list, with some great rioja gran reservas' crianzas' and temps in red and white. What really impressed me was the price of the champagne. Bollinger 2005, 7.50 euros a glass, very good value and a good year. We had plenty to eat and drink and the bill was 98 euros'. You could have a good tapas and a bottle of reserva for 50 euros as well, again good value. We retired to bed, superb nites sleep and went to breakfast. The breakfast was great, 7 differnt types of butter including, olive, bacon , watermeleon, really different. Lots of differnt meats, bread. cheese, fruit and great coffe, a reall good show. The roof terrace with pool, gym and sauna is a let down though. The roof terrace itself is great, nice views, but the wait for drinks is a life time. The roof top bar was closed as it was not high season. When that opens on 1st May it will make a huge difference. The swimming pool is ok but ageing. Some of the water jets dont work, some of the tiles are cracked, it needs a make over. The gym is sparse, treadmill didnt work, cross trainer was old, free weights rusty, not good. The sauna in the mens changing room was switched off, not good. The overall service was good, staff excellent. I would go back and stay for a day or two, but they need to sort out the pool and gym, although in the summer when its super hot and the bar is open I doubt you will notice.
For a short break over the Easter weekend, we couldn't have picked a better hotel. Swish, stylish, well located and excellent price. Room was stunning - beautifuly fitted out. Bed linens were super. French doors offered view of the castle. Staff great too. Throroughly recommend the Amerigo !!
My husband and I and our 9 month old daughter stayed at the Amerigo on March 15th to 22nd 2008 at a rate of €146 per night including 7% tax and breakfast at €17 each. The location one street bach from the beach, marina and tiled prom walk is excellent and it is only a few minutes walk away from lovely restaurants such as L'Atelier (5* food and service at one-third the price of London, next to the Cathedral) and Sale & Pepe for the best pizza and pasta we have ever eaten. Amerigo tapas bar also very good and popular. The hotel is excellent for breakfast and we had a lovely meal at the hotel's restaurant one night but it was a little pricey and lacked athmosphere due to few diners. Rooms are very clean, spacious, good air conditioning and we had a lovely cot for our daughter, made up fresh daily. The rooftop pool is small and only knee deep so you can't swim but the decks for sun catching are luxurious and quiet. All of the staff were very friendly to ourselves and our baby and always someone available who could speak English. The tourist office on nearly La Rambla provided great information so its worth a visit. Avoid any room overlooking Calle Mayor, its noisy at night and we were there during Easter Week (Semana Santa) and enjoyable but very noisy parades occur every night across the town from 7pm to midnight and many are on Calle Mayor. For quietness a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor overlooking the internal courtyard is best, although these rooms do not get the big sunight hit but sleep was a bigger priority for us. Our only notable problem during our stay was that our beautiful room (403) developed a strong sewage smell that became unbearable. At first the staff sent a maid with 'smell eating spray' to use their words, which was really strong bleach, and I had to stop the maid spraying the carpet as my baby is crawling and the chemicals were strong. Three calls to reception yielded the same solution every time but the smell just got worse and after trying to blame it on carpet cleaning, we were eventually allocated a new room and one assistant mentioned that there can often be a problem with the level 4 rooms (there are only 4 of them) as the sewage smell rises. We moved to room 325 and it was smaller but smell-free, a hassle though to have to pack and unpack everything during your stay. I forgot something and returned to our original room one hour after leaving and the smell was truly obnoxious and I am still stunned that the hotel tried to down play the problem. We also got the smell strongly at reception one say so I am suspicious that the hotel has a recurring problem with this, although our new room was smell-free for the rest of our stay. There was no discount on our bill for having to put up with the smell for a day and the hassle of moving rooms. Aliante is very relaxing, lovely old town with nice shops, ice cream stops and restaurants and you can take a tram all along the coast from the centre of Alicante. Great for the views and very cheap at about €5 return per person. We found Spain much friendlier than France for babies, both the people (who all played with our baby, it was incredible) and the facilities (either baby change stations or roomy and spotlessly clean toilets with large counter or floor space to chaneg a baby). Every restaurant gave us a table with room for our buggy and the only occassional problem we had was if nearby diners decided to smoke, which seemed to happen in smaller restuarants but by luck was when we had finished our meal so we just moved away. We were also able to empty the minibar at the hotel and use it to store baby food and milk. Note that none of the UK/Irish brands of baby food can be found in Spain so you may want to bring your own, which we did.
This is one of the most amazing hotels we have ever stayed at!The rooms are fantastic- clean, modern, new, simply beautiful. The bathrooms are impeccable, our only complaint is that the shower leaked out the door, but otherwise incredible with an amazing assortment of complimentary toiletries. The balcony in our room looked out onto the courtyard only, but it was still lovely. The staff was really incredible! There was always a pitcher of their special iced tea in the foyer (which they were also kind enough to send up to our room, we couldn't get enough of it!), they were always attentive and polite, and went out of their way to find english speaking staff. They have complimentary beach towels in lovely little bags, and will reserve a spot for you at the beach, just ask! (by the way, the beach is just amazing, and only a 5-10 min walk, depending on which part of the beach you want to go to!) On my boyfriend's birthday they left us a nice little note and a bottle of champagne on ice. And you MUST try the breakfast buffet- simply amazing, the best we've had yet. The tapas bar next door also serves wonderful food- we had a really hard time getting good food in Alicante, but needed to look no further than next door! The best part is that we only paid 100euro/night...i think their prices have gone up, but we've paid several hundreds of dollars per night for hotel rooms in the rest of europe, and only one has come close to what we've experienced at the hospes!
We had read fantastic reviews about this hotel and managed to book a couple of days for 110 Euros per night for a double room without breakfast. Taxi from Alicante Airport took about 20 minutes and cost 17 Euro (only 15 on the return trip). Our first thoughts on arrival were WOW. The entrance is from an alley between the 2 buildings that form the hotel and the reception area is very modern. The staff were totally professional and within minutes we were checked in and escorted with our luggage to our room (215). The room was another WOW as we entered and saw the spacious bathroom shower area which was as large as the bedroom area. Again everything was very modern and spotlessly clean. Furnishings included huge built in wardrobe unit, settee, 2 beds pushed together, desk and stool, safe and mini bar (pricey). The bathroom was fantastic and the complimentary toiletries the best I have seen anywhere else on my extensive travels. They even included lip balm and deodourent. If I had to find fault then it would be the fact that there was no complimentary drinking water or tea / coffee and kettle. A minor moan. The location of the hotel is also excellent for the old town of Alicante and the harbour area. Great streets to wander along and loads of shops for the ladies (especially if you like shoes). For breakfast and other meals dozens of little bars and restaurants can be found within a few minutes walk. the Tapas were delicious. We didn't try the hotel bar or restaurant as much better value could be had by visiting other nearby places. Both bar and restaurant did however look very inviting. There is a Spa, gym, sun-deck and covered swimming pool on the roof of the hotel which we looked at but didn't use any of the facilities. All looked very inviting should you want to use them. We would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there agin should we ever go back to Alicante. At the rate we paid it is fantastic value.
This hotel is well worth selecting for a short stay in Alicante. Rooms are spacious and well kept, as are the public areas. It is situated most conveniently near the old town with numerous bars, cafes, restaurants. Short walk to the esplanade and beach. All staff friendly and helpful. One noteable exception on reception did not know the castle easily reached by bus for 8 euros return. Otherwise exceptional service Alicante itself offers easy access to beaches, shops, etc. Ideal for a short stay. Also good train service for onward journeys
This is one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in. The people at the reception were friendly, the rooms were outstanding... very big and very modern. My favourite was the ridiculous amount of complimentary toiletries they give you! Lip balm, a comb, a razor, the list goes on.... The jacuzzi on the roof is heaven. My only slight concern was the fact that I assumed breakfast was included in the price. We were not told upon check in that there was a charge, they just told us where to go in the morning for breakfast. I was a little surprised when we recieved a bill for 17 euros each at the end of breakfast!! But I'm glad we had it anyway - it was very, very, very good. And apparently it won an international hotel breakfast award in 2004. We paid £80 last minute for one night in this hotel, and it was more than worth it. The town of Alicante is fantastic too. I was worried about being surrounded by Brits watching Eastenders in the pub with their fish and chips. But they all go to Benidorm. Alicante is a lovely town with very friendly people and authentic Spanish culture. Go!
Spent the weekend at the Amerigo and absolutely loved this hotel! The hotel is located just off the seafront in Alicante right in the middle of the old town. You could not ask for a better location. From check in through to check out everything was faultless. As I work in the industry I can be quite picky about service and quality but I honestly do not think that there is anything I can criticise about this lovely hotel! Room was fab, view overlooking the old town and fortress was nice, toiletries were great and the shower was amazing!!! I do not think I have ever had a nicer shower! It was like being in a SPA.... I would highly recommend the hotel and infact Alicante for a great weekend break. For great tapas try El Buen Corner on the Calle Mayor just adjacent to the hotel. We ate there on both nights and were very impressed. No tourists - just locals!! If you are heading to Alicante then check out the Amerigo!!
WOW! What a christmas present ! We stayed 4 days between Chrstmas and new year and it was amazing. I had to be dragged away from the jaccuzzi pool, got lost in the bed a couple of times and made up several excuses to take yet another shower (heaven) We can highly recommend the back massage... not cheap but worth the indulgence. The only thing we can think of to make it better would be tea making facilities in the room. Fab Fab Fab !
spoil yourself 5 star luxury hotel stayed three nights earley december and enjoyed every minute heated rooftop pool open all day tillbed time with covered conservatorie affair over it ,stayed b&b breakfast a bit pricey but wow the best like i say spoil yourself. nice chineese restraunt to the left of hotel and indian just down road both very good quite a few lively bars around allicante dont know why but they all seem to be irish ,nice marina to stroll round if weathers ok we had three lovely sunny days all in all a very nice short break
Only stayed one night on our way up to near Moraira, but would definitely recommend staying here if you are in Alicante. Hotel is very difficult to get to if driving as there are lots of one-way streets in Alicante and once we got there, the hotel car park was full which doesn't bode well for a very off-season November night. Find a car park and walk there seems to be the best bet. The hotel is very stylish and the room, bathroom and bed are all great. I agree with other reviews on the 'goodies' you get in our room, I'd say they are the best set I've seen on my travels so far. We were also pleasantly surprised with Alicante, we walked up to the old part of the city - walk to the end of the street on which the hotel is on and take a right up the Ramblas almost to the end and take another right, there was a good atmosphere and lovely buildings, bars and restaurants, so Alicante is definitely worth a city weekend break out of season - I expect it's a nightmare in the summer though with ex-pats and Benidorm-overflow galore.
The 5 star price is worth it just for the free goodies they leave you in your room. Fab pool with best view in town. Great room, motorised black out blind, comfy bed, gorgeous sheets, flatscreen. Only small problem was its a bit dark once you are in the bath - you'll see what I mean when you get there. Easy to reach on foot from the tram stop or the taxi to the airport was pretty cheap less than thomsonfly say on their guide book . Close to great tapas and a great beach. Wou ish we could have stayed longer. By completing a survey form when we got home we got a free night in the hotel but you have to take it by end of year and no more holidays left!!!!!!
From the moment I walked through the door I knew I was in a 5 star oasis of calm. Beautiful vast marble reception, cool temperature, helpful staff. Our room was divine, the best bed I've ever slept in, crisp white sheets, duvet and heavenly pillows. Modern bathroom with a rainforest shower, spotlessly clean. TV, dvd, fresh orchids, huge hanging space. Beautiful pool and spa on the roof. I would have loved to have stayed longer and had some of the treatments offered, a real treat.
The 100 Euros seemed low for this hotel. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at the room: it was beautiful and big. Great rainfall shower. Awesome toilettries. Very close to the beach and very helpful staff. Breakfast is expensive but really nice. This hotel is close to everthing and we will come back and stay here.
We selected this hotel based on the reviews posted by previous visitors and it lived up to expectations. Highly recommended.
My girl friend & I stayed at the Hospes Amerigo on our way to Granada from Barcelona. We enjoyed to hotel (nice decor with interesting design + a nice small roof deck for drinks) & the rooms were nice. Location is great with several very good restaurants one block away. The hotel staff was very helpful. If driving (like we did), the hotel is bit hard to find in the old part of the city. I recommend bringing your GPS - we did not and paid the price of driving around for 80 minutes trying to find it. The hotel entrance is on a one way street with a hidden pull in for the car. If you miss it on the first pass, you need to go back through the maze. Our friends in Barcelona screamed in terror when they learned of our Alicante travel plans and begged us not to go. We knew better & went anyway. Alicante is way to crowed with a very small packed beach. We should have flown from Barcelona to Granada and skipped Alicante.
My Husband and I booked this hotel after seeing an article by a travel writer in the Sunday paper. we were not dissapointed! A calm ambiance meets you as soon as you go through the doors. The staff are some of the most charming and obliging we have met. Our room was beautiful but I found it rather small and as I suffer with claustraphobia we asked if there was another. We were shown 2 more rooms and settled on one that was a fair amount larger. Everything has been said in these reviews about the fab bathrooms, gorgeous toiletries, snowy towels etc etc... It is all true and the shower heads, fantastic huge ones like standing in the rain, blissful!!!!! We had booked room only. The breakfast area does not seem used that much, it is quite pricey if not in your tariff and rather fancy. We only went once and did not really think it was worth the cost. The rooms facing the ancient sort of courtyard are rather dark and gloomy, as we found out after 1 day. We were moved again with no fuss to the perfect room for us, the staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel is just 1 small road back from the beautifully tiled promenade, very atmospheric in the evening often pan pipe music and little huts selling pretty things. If you like calm sanctuary but near to the hustle and bustle then this is the hotel for you.
I stayed in this hotel with my 2 children (age 4 and 6) for a long weekend. We chose this hotel based on recommendations on this website. I contacted the hotel directly and got an excellent rate for 1 adult and 2 children. When we arrived we were given a perfectly adequate room but I suspect it was not one of the larger ones, for example the bathroom was too small for twin basins as mentioned elsewhere. Given the rate I had been given I was happy with the room. It was on the third floor overlooking the front entrance and there was no problem with noise from the street. The room was extremely well equipped with TV, DVD, very comfortable bed (and an additional bed for the 6 year old which he slept soundly in!) and without doubt the best selection of complimentary toiletries I have ever come across. The pool was great for kids, it is really built as a spa pool - not very big, jacuzzi and power shower heads in situ and about waist height...essentially the perfect size for my 2 kids although I suspect that wasn't what the architects had in mind! The pool was never busy, more often than not my kids had it to themselves and they loved it. When you go to the beach ask at reception for towels and you will be given a bag with water and towels and someone will ring ahead to the beach to reserve you a lounger and umbrella (at no cost) which will be waiting for you when you get there. The beach is nice, although crowded at the weekend. We took the tram a little further along the coast to the empty beach between Alicante and Benidorm one day. We also did a day trip by train to Valencia which was great, pay the extra few euro for first class - definitely worth it. The staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. We didn't eat in the restaurant but had a lovely meal in the tapas bar. We also ate on the pool terrace, the food was good but expensive by local standards. There is a huge number of great places to eat within a stroll of the hotel and if you go out the front entrance and straight towards the marina there is a fantastic ice cream shop on the left hand corner of the street at the esplanade which was a regular after dinner treat! I would certainly go back to the hotel and would recommend it without hesitation.
We fell in love with this converted convent the moment we saw it but things started to go wrong the moment we got to our room. The promised free WiFi didn't work and the data plug was in a wall far away from any table. The phone, a modern cordless, also didn't work because when the room is not let, the electricity goes off and the phone didn't charge up. We went downstairs to complain and were told "let it charge for three hours and if it still doesn't work, just phone down to us." We had a junior suite which meant a lovely size bedroom; a bathroom twice its size and a smallish sitting room. We asked for some ironing to be done at 3pm one afternoon and were assured it would be ready first thing in the morning because we were going to a Communion at 10 o'clock. Come 9 o'clock and no ironing. "Yes sir it's here facing me." "Well could you bring it up to me" "Ok sir, right away" Ten minutes later, nothing. Phone down again (phone OK now). "Sorry sir, we got busy down here, coming right up." Came up at 940...completely untouched. By the time they got round to ironing it, we had missed the first ten minutes of the service. That evening, went up to the lovely rooftop terrace where a barbecue was promised. A sign said 'Closed for party. Eat downstairs'. We ate in the charming passageway that runs between the two wings of the hotel, the peace being shattered by the staff flying out of one door into another because this was the only route between the kitchens and the rooftop. Our first course, ham eggs and chips (it's a Spanish delicacy, I assure you) took 47 minutes to come because of course everyone was pre-occupied with the party. This is the kind of hotel where one member of staff seems to know what's going on, while the rest are useless and spend their time staring at you...and this is a 5-star hotel.
Just returned from a wonderful weekend in Alicante. After staying in the Hospes Palau de la Mar in Valencia last year we were happy to see a Hospes hotel in Alicante. This really is a lovely hotel in a perfect location; 5 mins from the beach, port and town. Beautiful building too (it’s a former convent). The rooms are big and have all the usual delights from a Hospes hotel – high class design, rainfall shower, Korres toiletries, very comfortable beds, flat screen TV etc The staff are friendly and very helpful – recommending good local restaurants and telling you what you can visit in the city Great terrace on the 4th floor with nice pool area (no need to go to the beach) and gym + sauna if you decide to use it. The breakfasts were delicious as was the food in the tapas bar – we didn’t get to try the restaurant as it was closed on the Sunday but it looked very good. Excellent value for money – I would recommend this hotel – go now before it gets too popular! I never write hotel reviews as I like “hidden gems” to remain that way but I really felt this hotel deserves the praise. Enjoy!
I arrived in Alicante via train from Madrid and it was 5 Euros by taxi to the Amerigo Hotel. The hotel itself is centrally located just off of Las Ramblas and 1.5 blocks away from the beach. In my experience, the hotel staff was top notch. Everyone spoke English very well and they even were able to give me a room for my early check-in. The room I had was gorgeous - huge closet area, a computerized safe, mini-bar, flat screen tv with DVD player, blinds that went up and down with a touch of a switch by the headboard, fresh flower in my room waiting for me, lovely bathtub with overhead rain showerhead and terrific shampoos/conditioner/soaps. My room was very quiet and I never heard any street traffic. The bed and pillows were phenomenal - big, cushy and inviting. I loved my stay here so much that I extended it twice (initially I was just passing through). On the roof of the hotel there is a small pool with a few cool water spigot jets. I only hopped in to cool off, nothing great there, but the view from the roof is lovely. There's also a spa at the hotel if you want a massage and room service was offered (I didn't take advantage of either, but nice to know they were there). There's a computer in the hotel lobby where guests may check email (no charge) and you can borrow DVDs from the front desk (they even had them in English) with just a wee deposit. There's a hotel bar as well though I never saw anyone in there, but it's not really necessary as there are so many places to go around the hotel itself. This hotel was on the pricier side on my vacation, but worth all of it!
Having decided to stay at the Amerigo from the previous reviews on this site, we were not disappointed! The hotel is wonderful, the decor, little luxuries in the rooms etc. I contacted the hotel by email asking for a room overlooking the courtyard not the Calle Mayor (thanks for the advice!) and true to their word that is what we were given. Room 325 for info. It is still noisy, if like us you enjoy having a window/door open overnight, as the A/C is still not good, as the locals do enjoy setting off fire crackers etc at all times of the night! The breakfast, although not cheap is well worth the money. The staff are particularly friendly and helpful, even recommending restaurants and on May 1st, where to go to see the local fetes and celebrations. The restaurant Monastrell is superb, but expensive. If you go, do try the tasting menu it is many courses, all reduced portions but filling nonetheless. Maria the chef/proprietor has good english and is charming. The Tapas bar next door (owned by Maria's husband), The Taberna Del Gourmet is absolutely fantastic, which is probably why the hotel staff are frequently found there! We went and by chance met Maria's husband who kindly shared his delicious salad with my husband & me and involved us in the evening really well! The chef behind the bar is a master-at-work, delicious food, wonderful presentation and such choice. The locals do love the place too. Would return without hesitation! A walk up to the castle is worth the view alone. A tram ride to San Juan beach is worth a visit as well, for the wide strech of sand it provides. Julio's restaurant on the beach is great, but it only opens at lunchtime which was a shame. Back at the hotel, the roof top pool and terrace was lovely, even though the builders over the road are still there, but hopefully the hotel they are converting will be finsihed soon! The taxi to and from the hotel was quick and efficient. Hospes Amerigo is definitely worth staying at for either a short break or a business trip. We look forward to trying other Hospes accommodation very soon.
interior design of the hotel is lovely, as was the room. There is a mini bar but it isnt free as stated in another travellers review! Situated in the lovely old part of the town, a few minutes walk from the marina and sandy beach, the location is ideal. Staff friendly and service good-the breakfast was very good, Two negatives for us though - there was frosted glass on the window probably hiding the fact we were overlooking the hotels service area- this was confirmed when we were woken up at 7am on the first weekday of our stay by at least half an hour of very loud rumbling noise, which was what we imagined very large barrels rolling over cobbles would sound like! we couldnt confirm this however because we were unable to see anything except a very small sliver of the sky out of the window. we didnt ask to move rooms as we were departing early next morning, but the same noise was repeated the same time next day. when I mentioned it to reception when checking out they said it was the laundry being delivered. So our advice is avoid room 115! otherwise all was fine, and we would recomend the hotel but not the room we stayed in.
Hospes Amerigo does not dissappoint. Period. This hotel provided one of the most pleasant accommodation experiences we have ever had. A few points of interest... 1) The rooms are unbelievable - well designed, large, clean and luxurious. 2) The location of the hotel in Central Alicante can't be beat. You find yourself just steps away from anything you might want to enjoy in Alicante - beach, dining, shopping, nightlife. Perfect! 3) The service we received was stellar. Staff members exhibited a graciousness that one rarely experiences. For example, the hotel did not have the plug adaptor that we requested. They unneccesarily went and purchased one and delivered it to our room. 4) The rooftop pool/deck is such a nice touch. It's a nice place to catch some sun, go for a swim, workout etc. 5) Don't miss the fabulous buffet breakfast, which comes complete with loads of both hot and cold selections. The perfect way to start your day.
We stayed in Hospes Amerigo for one night, and were delighted with our stay. Allthough we already knew Hospes reputation for exquisite design and wonderfull work of transforming old palaces into design hotels, we were surprised with the excellence of the room, especially the nicely equiped marble bathroom, opened onto the large closet. The spa on top of the hotel looked effective, and the pool allthough small was buillt solarium style, thus being enjoyable as soon as april. The construction workers on the other side of the street made life dificult for the more discrete guests, but they weren't necessarily a problem for everyone. The breakfast was great and worth the price, and the room service was also remarkable, with a large selection of excellent dishes. All in all I would absolutely recomend this hotel for a small stay in Alicante.
A wonderful hotel and it could not be more ideally located in the centre and only one block from the seaside. My room was large with a double bed and flat screen TV. The bathroom was the most spectacular I have ever seen, with double sinks and individual compartments for tub, WC and shower. Shower had a massive head which made you feel like standing in a waterfall. Nice bar as well as tapas bar. Breakfast was buffet style with a choice of hot dishes made to order at a reasonable price of EUR 16. Staff was frienldy throughout and spoke very well English. This is a truly wonderful hotel!
I stayed at this hotel for two nights with a friend and we had a lovely time. The hotel is beautifully styled and the staff on reception were very friendly. Our room over looked the courtyard and was nice and quiet. The bathroom is absolutely gorgeous - double sinks, a big bath and a lovely shower. I've never seen so many yummy toiletries either and they restocked them on our second day which was an unexpected bonus. There is a small indoor pool on the roof with great views over the church roof tops. The pool opens onto decking where you can sit out in the sun. There is a spa on the roof too and a male and female sauna. We didn't have any treatments at the spa but it looked nice. We did enjoy using the pool though and were lucky enough to have it all to ourselves on both days. We took up a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket from room service and relaxed by the pool - great way to destress. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but we did eat in the adjoining tapas bar one evening. There were lots of different dishes to choose from that all tasted great and the wine was lovely and reasonably priced. The hotel is in a great location - minutes from the sea front and lots of good bars and restuarants. It was a very cheap drive from the airport too - only 12 euros. I loved this hotel - we had such a relaxing time and I hope to go back again one day.
Stayed for 2 nights. Perfect location for the old town, marina that has many restaurants, shopping and castle. Not easy to find if arriving by car due to road closures and the one-way system but they do have an underground car park which is very useful (charge of 15 euros per day + tax). Rooftop swimming pool and sundeck are overlooked by the building site adjacent (5 metres away) and sunbathing could provide endless amusement for the builders! Rooms well appointed (LCD TV etc) and bathroom was nice with high-end toiletries. Only niggle was the uncontrollable aircon (we are not technically incapable either) that caused us to change rooms as we were frozen. The second room was fine for the first night but the aircon seemed to be sulking the second night despite no intervention by ourselves and was rather hot overnight. Although the surrounding streets were quiet at night during our stay at the end of October, we could could see why previous correspondents have mentioned getting a quiet room overlooking the internal atrium, although the double glazed windows were very good at attenuating noise. Didn't use the hotel restaurants as Alicante has so many from which to choose. As we only wanted a coffee + tostado for breakfast we skipped the hotel breakfast (35 euro for 2) and popped into the Pikaduro neighbourhood cafe opposite which was welcoming and cost us 3 euro! However, I should imagine that the hotel breakfast was probably extensive and very good if thats what you need. Overall, a brilliantly located hotel that has been very well designed. Staff were friendly and helpful as well. I just wish the aircon would have functioned to our satisfaction!
I booked the Amerigo on the strength of the reviews on this site - and I was not disappointed... I could not fault it in any way. Following the advice here I requested a room which did not overlook the Calle Mayor - which was allocated without question. It was perfectly quiet and we slept in until 10am every day. The rooms are nicely furnished - and the plasma/dvd is a bonus. Huge and comfy bed... The bathroom has a fabulous rain drench shower plus a bath - and two sinks so that you can both wash at once! Towels are big and fluffy and there was the most impressive range of toilettries I have seen in any 5 star place - even down to free lipbalm! The nicest touches are the complimentary soft drinks in the minibar replenished every day plus the orchids in the room too... The breakfast room and reception have a full range of papers in all languages - free to take if you wish. The rooftop pool is very swish and there is beautiful decking... The staff are very friendly but unobtrusive - and all speak great English... I felt that nothing was too much trouble for them. All in all, a great short break... Managed to get a great deal via the Smartcheck function on this site of £80 per night - and I would happily have paid more for such a lovely hotel.
If you go to Alicante book this hotel though it can be difficult to find by car! The location is fantastic, more than excellent service and the hotel rooms/facilities are beyond comparison. We stayed here 4 nights and enjoyed the clean, tranquil, modern room with facilities like DVD player, free Internet access/soft drinks in the minibar and top class amenities. The pool area is absolute luxury with a breathtaking view and the waiter there was a real highlight. We are going back in October.
We stayed 10 nights at the Hotel Amerigo in mid-August, arriving exhausted from work. The first pleasant surprise was the short and cheap taxi ride from the airport, and it only got better. The bright and airy hotel foyer and friendly staff (most of whom speak better English than I speak Spanish) were a welcome sight and the room was a delight, that is until evening and early morning. Facing the main street the noise in our room was overwhelming. If you intend to lie in or go to bed before midnight you must request a room facing the internal courtyard, which we did. As dedicated foodies we ate out all over Alicante and we found the hotel restaurant to be the very best in the city. The more casual tapas bar is also worth a visit. For excellent, simple and fresh fried fish we loved the cafe Pescador (sp?) overlooking the marina (don't miss the fried anchovies - boqueron fritos). However, the allegedly leading restaurant Darsena (also in the marina) seems to be resting on its laurels, with the most unfriendly service and inedible food we encountered in our entire stay. If you want a treat, book a table at El Bocaito. Back at the hotel, the roof-top bar, pool and sun-loungers offered a cool hang-out and the short tram ride to San Juan beach delivered the perfect Spanish beach. Alicante itself was charmingly Spanish (i.e. not overrun with Brits). Suffice it to say we are already planning our return visit to the hotel and the city and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Excellent hotel in excellent position. Perhaps the pool is more suited to cooling down than serious swimming. There was building work going on adjacent to the rooftop area so that was both noisy and meant there was a lack of privacy. The previous reviews were quite right - highly recommend the hotel and the town for a short break. Do walk up to the castle area and appreciate the landscaping on the way up and the exhibitions at the top.
This was our first and definitely not our last stay in this fantastic place. Whilst it was pricey it made up for it with class and elegance. It was so handy to everything. As one reviewer has already stated the daily toiletries were great and you really don't need to bring ANYTHING with you in that department. The air-con was the quietest I have experienced and we heard none of the outside noise mentioned elsewhere. There is one "however" I am far from one of the beautiful people and the roof top terrace seemed to be populated by the tanned and the trim which put me off a bit and the bar was expensive. If you really want to eat well go to the street directly behind the hotel and about 200 yards on the left is a little restaurant called La Spiga - delicious food and reasonably priced. The whole Alicante experience is so restful and Hotel Amerigo is a great place to start.
Just had 7 nights in the cool Amerigo. with out a doubt this is a gem in Alicante, with fantastic rooms , pleasant cheerful and helpful staff, excellent food ( in the Tapas Bar ) and a very relaxed atmosphere. Be warned that if your deal doesnt state breakfast that this can come to a costly sum by the en of your week. The hotels roof top swimming pool area is nice but the bar prices are probably the highest in Alicante. The only waring I would give potential travellers is that if your room is on the Calle Mayor side then you will expereience noisy evenings and early mornings especially from the residnets of the Hostel Mayor. the wonderful array of toiletries could do with ear plugs adding to prevent disturbances from the late night revellers and to also stop you hearing the constant sound of accordian players players!
My girlfriend and I recently stayed for 6 nights in the Amerigo. I booked it mainly on the strength of the other reviews on tripadvisor and from the photos on the hotel website. This is a fantastic hotel and fully deserves it's 5 star rating. I cannot understand the reviewer who complained about the rooms and gave the hotel 3 stars. The rooms are large for such a well located hotel and come with plasma TV and DVD player. Bring DVD's and CD's as the only English stations are news (Sky, BBC, CNN) There are also bathrobes and slippers along with good quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc. There are also free soft drinks available from the minibar. The airconditioning is very good but can be adjusted if too cold. The pool area is lovely however if you go up early they may not yet have put out the towels. The pool bar seemed to be staffed from about 11. The staff in the hotel were second to none. The spoke good english and were helpful. They have no problem with you staying by the pool of the hotel after you have checked out and there are storage areas upstairs for your belongings. I have stayed in various grades of hotel and do believe that this merits both its five stars and its place as at the top of the tripadvisor list. I would not stay anywhere else if going to Alicante.
My husband and i recently returned from Spain. After reading comments on this site, we decided to book 2 nights at Hospes Amergio. It was WONDERFUL. This is modern hotel minutes away from the beach and many many great restaurants. The hotel is also minutes away from the major tourist attraction at night...the chekared boardwalk full of restaurants, local musicians, and local merchants. This is a Very clean hotel with helpful staff, and a great shower head!! The breakfast buffet was a bit expensive, and we never did eat at the hotel, but the hotel is so centrally located that there was no problem. We definetly recommend Alicante for all the beach lovers and of course Amergio. Amazing. You will not regret.
This hotel is the best in the town, hands down. The location is great, the food there is fabulous and the staff just absolutely fantastic! The rooms definitely were a treat. We had one that faced the marina so u could see all the way to the water. It wasnt a complete view but still good. At night its pretty lively in Alicante and all you need to do is walk downstairs and the action is there. Do try some of the local restaurants there, the tapas in this town is the best ive had in all of spain. The corn fed jamon just melts in your mouth...yummm!!!
Stayed here for 6 nights mid august 07. The hotel is lovely looking, old yet modern, right next to the old town, and 2 streets back from the beach. The room was very spacious, the dvd was a great idea.... nice to relax for 1/2 hour of "Still Game " (which we took) when you come in from the pool! Mini bar stocked daily, 6 mini bottles of juice and some water. Toiletries sweet, but no conditioner. Bath robes, slippers etc. Air conditioning so good, we were sometimes cold at night. We spoke to the reception staff a few times, always very polite & helpful. Quite often the pool area was missing towels though, which was a bit frustrating. Likewise the pool bar was unattended for long spells.... a disaster when you are desparate for a sangria (watch out as the prices seemed to change daily). The thing that makes this hotel less than 5 stars is the noise and the outlook. Our room looked directly into a hostel, and the cafe below was busy until 2am (not a problem as you will be out!), but started again at 7am... so not much sleep. Very very noisey, the windows seemed to offer no sound-proofing. On top of this whilst lounging by the pool you are overlooked by builders, again very very noisey. It kinda tainted the hotel experience for us. Alicante itself is wonderful, fantastic nightlife in the old town at the wkend, great cafe culture the rest of the week. Not much in the way of typical british pubs.... which for us was lovely, don't expect Benidorm. Brilliant food - Argentinian D'Gardle, the hotel tapas bar and the tapas bar in the wee square round the corner... to die for. San Juan worth a visit. The port area is very traditonal spanish (salsa music, latino dance) at night. People we spoke to didn't rate the food. Alicante... recommend it to anyone!
Alicante, in my opinion is a city to leave off your tour in spain. This hotel, although not terrible, doesnt fit the bill of its 5 star rating. I would give it 3.5 stars. Room was terrible for a five star and not bad if it was a 3 star. Although, the staff was great and the lobby and pool on the roof was quite nice, it was still a bit dissapointing.
Have been to Alicante twice before, staying at the Melia Alicante both times. For this 3 night stay we decided to go for the Amerigo, as it looked great on the website. It certainly did not disappoint. Fabulous hotel, attractive building, stylish interior, marvellous room, and spot on location. The old town is literally on your doorstep, so a 1 minute walk and you are in the heart of the nightlife, 5 mins and you are on the beach or marina. Room was a standard double, but was a good size. The openplan bathroom was perfect, the shower fantastic. Chuck in great toiletries, nice sofa, dvd player, free mini bar, and you begin to get a good idea of the standard of this place. Roof top pool was great, though there is currently building work going on in a building next door, so there are workmen/crane in earshot and sight on weekdays. However, totally peaceful on the weekend! Alicante is in my opinion, the ideal destination fora weekend break, nightlife, beach, harbour, promenade etc, all within a compact area. Do not hesitate to visit Alicante, and if you can afford it, stay no where else other than the Amerigo.
I simply cannot rate this hotel highly enough. We arrived from 5 days in Barcelona to spend our next 5 in Alicante. I was quite apprehensive given how difficult it had been to locate decent information about the area. None of my Spain books contained more than a paragraph or two. How pleasantly surprised we were to arrive in this wonderful city full of history and fantastic energy. Upon reaching the hotel, I fully expected it could in no way exceed our experiences in Barcelona at two 5 star hotels, Majestic and La Florida. Boy was I wrong. The Amerigo is incredible. Cool and stylish interior yet warm and welcoming staff. Our room was huge with about 12 foot ceilings and a floor to ceiling room divider which buffered hallway noise. The free juice, cokes and water in the minibar was a nice touch as were the impressive line of Korres toiletries (I have never seen a more complete offering in my life!). The view from our room (with two balconies) was of a quaint centuries old street full of restaurants (such as you'll only find in Europe). To be honest, Saturday night was a tad loud down on the street as the city comes to life and stays alive well into the 3-4 am hour. Although the room does have electric shades, you do still hear the noise and I was glad I did retain the airline ear plugs. The noise was only an issue on the one night though. As for the rooftop pool and deck, the view to Santa Barbara mountain is awe-inspiring and the patio sofas are very comfy. The food was fantastic in both restaurants. You cannot go wrong with this hotel. We will be back. As an aside, the hotel is close to the marina but if you are looking for a nice quiet beach nearby, I highly recommed catching the Alicante tram two blocks from the hotel and taking it the ten minutes to San Juan Beach. You can pick up a cheap (9 euros) beach umbrella at any of the small stores and camp out in the sand for the day. There is a great restaurant on this beach, Julio's, which you must make reservations for lunch early in the day as it is VERY popular. Safe travels!
We were looking forward to our stay in Alicante having had a few days walking in the mountains. We'd never been to the city before and it was wonderful - reminded us of Barcelona but on a smaller scale. The Amerigo was spot on - we had a large room which was worth every penny. It's a beautiful building - a true 'boutique' hotel - but what will probably stand out was the friendliness of the staff. Can't really fault it.
I stayed in the Hospes Amerigo for 5 nights on a business trip and I really thought it was a charming hotel. The service is great, people are friendly, had a dinner in the restaurant where the food was fantastic. The Rooms are comfortable, simply decorated. You get a lot of options included in your stay. They offer you a list of DVDs you can view at night in your bedroom, charge free and juices and water from the minibar, charge free. Alcohol is of course not free. When you go to the top floor, where the pool is, the view is great towards the small hills and holds a lot of Spanish feel. I would recommend this hotel to business people as well as for leisure.
Recently returned from staying at the Amerigo, a first class hotel, well deserving of it's 5 star rating. Once you step into the lobby you begin to feel a sense of calm that the hotel is aspiring to instill. It's uber-chic cool and the staff were warm and welcoming, attentive and professional. Our room was one of the best hotel rooms we've ever stayed in. A large changing/bathing area and a spacious bedroom with great facilities (flat screen TV, DVD (free DVDs at reception), electronic window blinds, free mini-bar). We didn't use the pool/jacuzzi but it looked impressive and will definately be used when we return in June. The pool is small - ideal for just cooling off rather than for swimming. Nice sized bar - great cocktails and breakfast was excellent with a wide range of yummy delights.
Stayed in this lovely hotel over the Easter period. Beaufully furnished, staff very friendly and couldn't do enough to help you. Nice little touches like soft bathrobes and slippers and lovely shampoos, soaps etc. Ate in both the hotel's tapas bar and restaurant. The restaurant Senzone serves fantastic food a little bit on the expensive side but def. worth every penny. Can't fault the hotel in any way. Nicely situated in the middle of the town close to the beach (very overcrowded) but there are nicer beaches further up the coast. If you are planning to stay in Alicante this is most def. the best hotel in the area.
Stayed here in mid-April for two nights and had an excellent stay. The rooms are well-designed, very comfortable, and fully equipped - included nice small touches like flat screen tv, dvd player and free mini-bar. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is very good. The hotel restaurant, Senzone, serves amazing food! Would definitely recommend this hotel. During my stay, which was Semana Santa (Holy Week), there were several processions in the city and some of them passed in front or at the back of the hotel, which was very convenient.
My partner and I arrived 17th March very early in the morning and were allowed access to our room immediately. Very friendly and helpful receptionists who recommended restaurants for lunch and dinner. Can't fault the hotel at all - very stylish. Lovely building and tastefully refurbished. Would definitely recommend it. The only down side was the weather, although it was warmer than London it rained for a couple of hours each day we were there and the sun only really shone when we were getting on the plane to come home! That's life!
If Carlsberg did hotels they would be like the Amerigo! We (family with 3 children ..aged 10,13 17) found it extremely stylish, very convenient to shops, marina, restaurants etc The staff were endlessly helpful and friendly. The free computer with broadband in reception was a great hit with the kids. The rooms are beautifully designed in a modern comfortable vaguely eastern style. They are spacious with fabulous bathrooms. The bedrooms work well with enough space for relaxing on the sofa watching TV or DVDs (available free in reception) and for the bed. The linen was gorgeous. In fact everything was great. I would love to have a reason to go back to Alicante just to stay here!
Stayed at this stylish hotel for 3 nights Jan 06...two ladies doing lunch ! well eating, drinking and shopping actually..Hotel situated just two streets back from the Marina and seafront....Alicante has some wonderful restaurants and the hotel lounge was a haven to return to....staff very friendly and nothing ever too much trouble for them...kindly offered different wines for us to try of the locality..Breakfast a real treat...Open plan bathroom a novelty and anyone with back or any problems like that then you need to request a shower rather than the climb in bath thats on offer. Visited a wonderful restaurant called Monstrelle...a hidden gem, expensive but memorable. Overall thoroughly enjoyed and would use this hotel again.
Just returned from a 3 night break at this wonderfull hotel. It's about a 15 min taxi ride from the airport @ 14 Euros. Located in the old town area just one street back from the seafront road it's in a prime location for the marina, beach & surrounding restaurants. Set on 4 floors with about 80 rooms the place has been decorated to a terrific standard in a classy minimalist sort of way. My wife & I stayed on a bed & breakfast basis & our room was wonderfull although the open plan bathroom was slighty different.Free minibar & a great selection of complimentary soaps' lotions & the like. Flat screen telly, electric sun blinds & a fantastic power shower. The breakfast was a terrific buffet of savaoury & sweet items plus the addition of a small cooked choice all served with fresh fruit juices....the best I've ever had! Service was excellent & unobtrusive.... The roof top pool & terrace complex with small gym was really a chilled place. On our last day our flight was 11pm @ night. Check out is 12 noon. They looked after our cases & allowed full use of the pool etc all day as well as the shower rooms & towels etc. What a pleasant change. Can't recommend it enough
Friends and I recently stayed at Amerigo in Alicante and fell in love with the place. The hotel is very stylish and modern yet remains friendly and welcoming. The staff are very helpful and know the area well - we took their advice on eating out and enjoyed the best food ever eaten in Spain. The rooms are wonderful - with a free mini-bar, soft drinks only, and wonderful products! The rooftop pool area is an oasis of calm and is covered and heated in the winter months. The tapas bar serves great food and rioja - staff were friendly and amusing. We met a solo visitor who said that she felt comfortable eating there in the evenings on her own - a fine recommendation. This is a wonderfully grown-up hotel and i feel confident recommending it to anyone who wishes to make the most of staying in a very Spanish city.
My fiance and I just got back from a vacation in Alicante, Spain. We were there for 4 nights. Amerigo is a gorgeous, modern hotel. I loved how it was decorated--it's the kind of place you wish your home was modeled after as far as the decor. The room isn't huge, but it's fine for 2 people. Everything was so up-to-date, for example we had a flat screen TV and a very nice, small cordless phone. The staff was amazing. They spoke English quite well and answered so many of our questions. We stopped by at least twice a day to get advice and recommendations, and their restaurant recommendations turned out to be excellent. What's also really great about this hotel is the location. It's literally 2 short blocks to the marina area and another 2 blocks to the beach. It is also about a block from El Barrio, where there are tons of bars and restaurants. Our package included a breakfast every morning. It was so classy and delicious! The hotel also has a very nice tapas bar that we ate at one of the nights--the food was very very good. The only warning that I will provide is that it's a bit of an urban environment. It is right near Postiguet Beach, but that is more of a crowded public beach. One of the days we took a taxi to the San Juan beach, which is much more picturesque, quiet, and open. It is more of a resort area. We don't regret staying at the Amerigo, however, because part of the experience was taking in the culture found in the city and being in walking distance from alot of the action. We highly recommend this hotel and a trip to Alicante, Spain!
The Amerigo is in a building that's still being renovated (so beware, there is no pool YET). When I stayed there I believe I was one of few guests in a pretty large hotel. The breakfast is amazing - like a tasting meal, and not unreasonably priced. You can't have your laptop plugged into electricity and into the ADSL at the same time so bring an extremely long cord. The price had dropped which is why I chose the hotel. It had previously been going for well over $200 which would be an insane price to pay in Alicante...but if it's lower, it's worth it. Much nicer than the Melia and the Portamaris.
Arrived the same day as the Barcelona football team, 2 weeks after the hotel had opened. Amazingly stylish, great roof top pool with beautiful and polite staff. Seems slightly at odds with the more tourist parts of Alicante, but is complimented by a couple of good and stylish restaurants in the old town.
Stayed in the Amerigo for 3 nights for a short break and would recommend the hotel to anyone. Room was stylish and relaxing, spa area was superb and the bar area a joy to sit in and relax. The shopping area and beach front restaurants and bars are a 2 minute walk away. I would recommend this hotel as a great place to stay and experience everything Alicante has to offer.
Great location, in the old part of the city. Rooms are very modern, cleverly designed to maximise space. Roof top pool, open until late 2200pm. swim under the stars. Very good upmarket tapas bar on ground floor. Weekend rate a very low 100euros per room for genuine 5 star service. Perfect for a long weekend. Enjoy.
We booked two nights here on the basis of recommendations on TripAdvisor and from friends. From the entrance onwards, this is a seriously stylish hotel. The staff are smart but not stuffy. The public areas are spotless and full of eye-catching furniture. The room was lovely and the Korres products a definite winner. The pool on the top floor is worth a visit although you may find it fuller than we did in November. The location is also great, right in the old town and close to some good tapas bars etc.
My parents and I stayed here for one night. The hotel has a garage that costs 15 Euro which is reasonable price. Welcoming from staff was excellent volontered to help us with anything and also telling us about the city and gave good advice about what to see and do and where. Really friendly. We went to our rooms which both looked excellent, beautifully decorated, orchids, bathroom also good with a rain shower and bathtub, two washbasins, clean. Bed comfortable. But it was 26.5 celsius in the room way too hot and AC was not working so we switched to two other rooms one equal to the previous ones but the other one 316 was almost like a single room in size not comparable at all to the other 3 rooms we saw. In the new rooms it was cooler but still the AC was not working. I complained about the size of 316 and after all the problem with AC i got a free upgrade to a larger room. That room was great but still no AC but 21 C so the temperature was ok. The staff handled these issues in a very professional manner. But beware of room 316. The other rooms we saw that was excellent was 106 (the upgrade room), 302, 318, 319 which all i can recommend. Next morning i wake up at 0730 and the water was lukewarm, i had shower on for 5 minutes in hope of hotter water but no improvement. I also tried the bathtub and the washbasin but still no hotwater. My father came by and he had the same problem. We went down to reception and complained and went out for breakfast and while we had breakfast they checked the water and for some unknown reason it was now hot again. Strange. One of the staff accompanied me to the room and i could also feel that the hot water was back. Free internet, nice lobby with a bar and their tapas bar Senzone was really good, we had their daily menu for 15 Euro and it was excellent so go and eat there! The spa of the hotel is located on 4th floor with a pool, sauna and sun deck beautiful! To sum up professional staff, excellent! Beautiful hotel, excellent location close to everything in Alicante, gourmet tapas bar, free internet, high quality beauty products, nice bathroom, comfortable bed. But our unluck with water and AC makes this hotel only a 4 star from me. If i were to ignore these problems that we had this is definately a FIVE star hotel. Excluded these problems one of the better hotels i have stayed in.
