We've stay only for one night and we enjoyed. The hotel is not a 4 star. It's one of the oldest in town but the rooms aren't so small as some say. We had great views in the room, because we stayed at the 12th floor. It was very quiet at night and the beds were confortable. The only thing that needs improvements is the breakfast room! It is too small for the size of the Hotel. It is near the center but not a very good place to walk at night. It wasn't expensive and we probably will stay there again.

We stayed at the Dom Henrique Hotel for one night in September, 2007. The hotel is an older facility, but it has been adequately maintained. Our room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant on the top floor of the hotel offers a spectacular view of the city, and the food was good. The hotel is in the downtown area, and banks and sightseeing are not far and within walking distance.

Having seen the other reviews I was a bit worried when we were relocated from the Grande Hotel de Porto. My worries turned out to be completely unfounded and I was very pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful, rooms were large, clean and quiet and everything in the hotel was very efficient and worked. Whilst there was no great individual character it was very functional. Breakfast was great, with loads of choice. I noted the rate we paid was considerably less than the quoted rack rate, so maybe if we'd paid more I would have been less satisfied. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the old town, but the disadvantage of that was outweighed by the fact that it's quiet at night...which some of the waterfront hotels are not. Overall I would recommend as a good base. If you can get to porto during the festival of San Juan (midsummer) then do try....it's crazy!!

very spacious room none

Staff were pleasant. Room was Aweful - couldn't believe this is 4*! The room was tiny. I wouldn't have even said 3*. The bed was not double... but a twin. We asked to change, and we were told there were no other rooms with double beds. so we just had to put up with it. Then, the air conditioning didn't work - we asked for them to fix it, he said he had..but he hadn't. Eventually moved rooms... room was equally as small, but at least it had a balcony (if you can call it that) so we could open the door to let some fresh air in. The trouble was the balcony was full of pigeon poo, and the wind coming through the room was pushing a broken ceiling panel up and down so it made such a racket. also, i didn't really like having a hole in the ceiling. The panoramic bar had some nice views of the city - but it was rediculously over priced, and had no atmosphere at all. Breakfast was what you would expect - so long as you didn't want anything hot which looked rank. Did get a paper to read - even if it was only the financial times. The hotel is ok located - its about a 10 minute walk into the old part of the town (downhill) and about a 5 min taxi ride home. The only really enjoyable part of staying here was we had an good meal in the restaurant one evening,and they seemed happy to serve us even though we didn't eat till 11. Unfortunately the restaurant lacked atmosphere, and the prices weren't great. In their defence, the other hotels we walked past in the older part of town looked just as shabby - if you are after a proper 4* hotel then i recommend you stay futher out in the newer areas,where they seem to have taken a bit more care over their upkeep, and if i go back i will definitely be doing this.

Indeed I would like to understand why is Dom Henrique a 4 stars hotel... The hotel photos were great and the phone reservation excelent. The weekend promised to be great. But... at the arrival the first problem: no car parking. The reception staff sold us a parking card for 48 hours for a garage across the street. The absence of a parking place was bad but to have to buy a parking card?? Unbelivable! Never happened to us before. Once in our room we foun out it was a twin bed and not a double one. We called reception and they immediatly offered the exchange. The belliman was send up to takes us to our new room and he was not happy. He took the elevator and I supposed he was being paid to work but he didn't spoke and not even bother to carry our bags (excuse me, but isn't it his job?). When I'm paying I like to receive a good service and that man was very unprofessional. The new room was smaller, had a lot of dust in the lamps, the tables and it had a little balcony where a family of pigeons lives. You can imagine what happens if no one cleans that space - and no one did! Disgusting. In the morning new unpleasant surprise: the breakfast was not 4 stars but 2 or, with good will, 3 stars. Scarce, not very good and have I already mentioned scarce? Ok, to finish up: Porto is a great city, lots of nice olaces to go (try the restaurant «Verso em Pedra» for cheap and great tipical food) but find another hotel to stay. Dom Henrique never again.

This was the only hotel in Porto with rooms available, but it turned out to be a good choice. It's very central, close to the shopping area at St.Catharina, and at a 15 minutes' walk from the river with all the restaurants. The room was not very large, but it looked spacious. But I just had a "click" with this hotel, it felt like home. The breakfast was nice, but not super. The crew was friendly when we arrived and gave us some information about the city. But the following days they refused to say hi. And I really don't know what he bell boy was doing there except trying to avoid the guests...

A good solid hotel. The location is excellent. 5 minutes walk from Trinidade metro. 10 to the city centre and 20 to the tourist restaurants on the river. If you don't want to walk, the metro and bus services are good. The hotel itself is fine. Comfortable medium size rooms, clean well equiped bathrooms, mini bar and efficient air conditioning. We only had breakfast at the hotel but it was continental and of reasonable standard. It can get very busy as the hotel caters for a lot of tour groups. People who took dinner had no complaints. The view from the 17th floor bar is fantastic. The drinks are considerably more expensive than the surrounding bars but for a treat it is worth a visit. All in all a solid 4 star with friendly efficient staff.

Stayed at the Dom Henrique for three nights, August of 2006. The staff at the desk were extremely polite as well as knowledgable and helpful regarding advise on our visit, such as directions, restaurants and internet cafes. Our room was clean, and modern, though ours had a curious little wedge of a balcony that was carved into a dark shaftway. Popular with the birds, but not very useful for humans. Location was convenient, to stroll around the historical center of the city. The restaurant on the main floor, serves a very fine local Portuguese menu. I would highly reccommend this hotel based on value for the money.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Dom Henrique : the rooms are neat and clean, the breakfast is great and the location is good. The staff unfortunately were quite unfriendly. I won't say there were not keen to help, but they surely made anything look like a lot of trouble! They could do with a few smiles! For the rest we enjoyed everything else. Porto is a pleasant place to visit - we can recommend driving out to a beach or visiting a wine / port cellar. Food and transport is cheap in Porto, and the Aerobus is a great way travelling to & from the airport.

March 25th.2006. We spent 5 happy nights here. Staff courteous and helpful. Plenty of choices for a hearty breakfast.Cost us 310Euros for the stay in a superior room. The Airport bus was booked for us by reception and we used our 3 day travel ticket. Did not try the hotel restaurant, there were plenty of restaurants locally and all reasonably priced. Reccomend the travel ticket to see the city which is full of steep walks. A must is to visit the Winerys on the bank of the Douro.

They have a great service , very clean nice workers, just perfect.

We booked this hotel for both the start and end of our two week trip. The 15th floor is a nicer than the 6th floor. The "twin superior" room is bigger than the "double" and worth the extra cost provided you request a room with a balcony. The staff is very friendly. Location is good.

Although it's listed as a 4 star hotel it's more like a 3 star with a need for some renovations. But the location is great and they have a wonderful bar on the 17th floor with gorgeous views of the city. During the day it is very convenient to walk around the old city center (where the hotel is located) however at night it didn't look or feel safe. It was nice to try it once, but would definitely try something new next time.

No complaints about this hotel, hence the rating. We went with a group of friends, and they put us all on the same floor. Was amazing to see the difference in rooms! One couple had a huge room with a balcony big enough to seat 6 people, our room was smaller with a small bacony, only big enough for two to stand on, but with wonderful views over Porto. Other friends next to us had a smaller room with no balcony. All rooms were well appointed, and and lovely bathrooms. The shower was powerful Breakfast was great with lots on offer, need to get in preety quick as it is popular. The Bar on the top floor is wonderful. Great to go to after a night out. Location is fine, about 15 min walk to the bridge, otherwise taxis are really cheap and convenient. Great deals for this hotel on package websites. Planning to go back again.
