I booked the hotel using their own website: all the other usual sites gave me no availability, but I was able to book a double room at a very interesting price. Arriving in Porto by car, it was not easy to find the hotel, even with my GPS: Porto is a wonderful city, but its hill construction and many one-way road can be a problem!! Anyway, arriving at the Hotel at midday, we were given our room by a very nice and helpful receptionist. Yes, the room is small, with old-style beds and tables. The radio was not working, but the main things were perfect: A/C, bathroom, cleaness.. Car can be parke din the public parking right in front of the hotel: it is not covered, but it is safe due to the Police station just near the hotel entrance, and on saturday and Sunday it is free. Turistic places are at least about 20 minutes walking, but taxi can be easily called by the reception. Breakfast is served in a nice room, and it is perfect for a turistic day in Porto. The hotel need to be renwed, expecially in its fornitures and services. Can be a little "dark", old style, maybe similar to one of the old style hotel you find in easter Europe. But the interesting price, the good service and their quick responce to your request is something to be considered in your choice of a Porto Hotel.

Stayed at Best Western Inca Hotel for 4 nights in June 2007, no problems with staff, room, or breakfast in the morning. Arrived at midnight reception man was very efficient. It is of traditional type with lots of wooden panels which gives it an appearance of dark. It is located in a hilly area and about a 5 minute downhill walk to the centre. Metro from airport to Trinanda staton 4 zones for 1.80euro was easy and took around 25 minutes. The walk from the station is up hill. Went to Graham's Port Lodge with a free bus from the main Porto bridge, short but very informative and 3 sample drinks at the end everything free. If you want a day trip away from Porto take the regional train from San Bento about a 15 minute downhill walk from hotel and for 4 euros return go to Braga. Well worth a day out. We stayed at the Hotel Inca, Porto on 5th May 2007. The hotel is more like a 2-3 star than a 4. It's about 15-20 min walk from the centre and 5min from a metro station. The rooms are small and outdated but the breakfast is very good with nice choices. Rooms are cleaned every day and the staff is very friendly. It just doesn't feel like a 4 star hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Inca for 5 nights and found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and with friendly staff. The rooms are of average size but very clean, the breakfast at the hotel is excellent and gives you a great start to the day, the hotel staff are also very friendly. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk from the river at Porto which can be tiring as it is up hill all the way - Porto is extremelly hilly and therefore not recommended for those with walking difficulties or asthma! Porto is a lovely city it has kept its old charm and the buildings are beautiful, its easy to get round as the bus and tram system are both excellent. Visit a Port Wine Cellar its a great expereince and a good chance to taste some lovely port, in all we had a wonderful time and would recommend Porto for a short visit.

We enjoyed our stay in this pleasant hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. We found all the staf extremely helpful. We used the room safe, it was simply a matter of obtaining a key from reception. The breakfasts were excellent. Porto is very hilly, especially if like us you live in Norfolk! It is true that many of the buildings in the port area are rather run down but somehow it adds to the charm of the place. The public transport systems are excellent and the metro is so clean and fast. All the Portugese people we talked with were vry friendly and helpful. Gaia was certainly worth a vist and we enjoyed sitting by the river in the sunshine. All in all we spent a very relaxing 5 days here. The new airport at Porto is very impressive.

Comfortable hotel more three star than four, but with a very pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent breakfasts. Rooms clean and pleasant rather than luxurious. Well located as long as you enjoy walking. Taxis cheap and plentiful, and public transport generally good. A small selection of reasonable restaurants nearby. Otherwise it means a trip back into the very centre, which if you've been out all day, can be tiring. Porto is a mish mash of a place with obvious signs of really bad planning having taken place. The riverside is extremely picturesque and full of charecter; there are lots of things to see but very few useful guide books. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

I am surprised that other reviewers have all commented on helpful staff because this just was not my experience! My mum had booked me and my partner into this hotel for 5 nights as a present. We left after 2. This hotel claims to be a 4 star but I would rate it no more than 2. There is no restaurant despite claims in it's brochure and several websites. It only has a room for breakfast. There was no tea/coffee facilities in rooms. The in-room info said tea and coffee available free 24 hours a day from reception. However I requested a tea at 3pm and was told I could not have one until 5pm and they attempted to charge me 1.50 euros for it! There were no keys available for the safe! (surely you should only claim to have a safe if it actually locks!!?) Staff were surly and unhelpful despite the brochure claiming "friendly staff". Location was OK-ish but a bit of an uphill walk from tourist attractions through some rather dirty graffitied areas. We didn't really think Porto was a nice town. The beautiful examples of architecture were surrounded by run down houses and the streets were covered in dog mess. (Obviously the hotel cannot really have an impact on this but it did affect our enjoyment of the holiday as after a day trudging round dirty streets I just wanted somewhere nice to relax and the Inca just does not do the trick .) Hotel rooms were ok a bit bleak and non descript but they were clean. We just couldn't cope with the rudeness, lack of facilities and generally depressing atmosphere. After 2 nights we moved over the river to the Hotel Sol Melia Gaia Porto in Vila Nova de Gaia. Despite having to pay out more money to be in a pleasant hotel for the remaining 3 nights I do not regret this decision. This was a far nicer, better equipped hotel with much better facilities and excellent customer service. This really did deserve it's 4 stars. It was also equally near to tourist attractions. If you must go to the Porto area I would definitely recommend the Melia Gaia Porto but would recommend avoiding Best Western Inca at all costs if you like to get good customer service and think that hotel's should match up to the claims they make in their advertising! Incidentally on our return we tried to get a refund for the 3 unused nights by contacting Best Western customer care and they said they could not do this as they have no control over hotels using the Best Western name and would "note our comments!" Just as helpful as the hotel staff then!

The look and atmosphere of the hotel is all but 4 star. It's a 2-3 star 70s style building, with Internet connection at its early stage too!! Nonetheless, 4 star service, welcoming, and extremely rich and delicious breakfast! I would go again, also cos I got a really good price.

My fiancee and I stayed at the Hotel Inca for four nights in early Feb at €50 including tax per night, without breakfast. We took a 15-min cab ride from the airport, which should cost €16-20. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the metro and/or train station, but some of that is uphill. The hotel looks a bit worn-out upon arrival, but it really grew on us. The front desk and bar staff are very nice and very helpful. They spoke very good English and gave great advice for places to eat, how to get around, etc. The hotel does offer breakfast for €8 but I´d suggest that this is WAY overpriced. At €4-5 I wouldn´t complain, but this is a pretty standard bread, cereal, sandwich meat, and cheese setup with minimal fruit, juice, and hot food. For €8 I want a made-to-order omelette or something hot. The room isn´t big, but it´s clean and comfortable and includes a TV with cable, mini-bar/fridge, and a desk. The nice-sized bathroom is very clean with a good shower. There is a lounge right opposite the front desk where you can relax with a cocktail and watch TV, read, etc. Noise from outdoors is pretty well insulated, but if there are loud guests in the corridor or adjoining rooms, you´ll probably hear them. The location is good on a pretty quiet square right next to a train station. It´s a short walk to the center of Porto, maybe 15-20 mins to the cathedral and La Ribeira. There are shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel offers wireless internet access and PC access at €2/30 mins, but there is a great internet cafe right on Aliados a few doors down from the tourist office for just over €1/hour. In summary, this is a cozy hotel where you get what you pay for. Staff are great, location is good. Overall, a good value. The worst part about our stay was Porto itself. It´s not the nicest place, unless you like derelict buildings with broken windows and cigarette butts and other litter everywhere. It´s an absolute ghost town on Sundays, and not a single person cleans up after their dogs. Don´t wear new shoes anywhere.

We went to Porto for a weekend and had a good time there. We decided to book Hotel Inca as it was a 4-star and seemed to be quite central. The standard is definitely one of a 3-star hotel. But having said this it is clean and staff are helpful enough, so no complaints of you know that you are not booking a 4-star (you're not paying that kind of money either). As for where it is, we are good walkers and it is quite a stroll/hike from the Cais de Ribeira, although not too far from Avenida dos Aliados. But I wouldn't definite it as "very central". We felt the place was good, but nothing to write home about. One more thing: If you like shellfish you have to go to Matosinihos (tube stop Mercado in blue line) for amazingly cheap "marisco"

We just came back from Porto where we stayed at Inca. We had reservations at Grand Hotel de Paris but due to a problem there they transfered us to their sister hotel, the Inca. The decor is very 70s, but the room was very clean and nice. The staff are very warm and welcoming and the breakfast is excellent. The location is good for access to the historical centre of Porto , the river and the shopping area. For the price of 30pounds through ebookers an excellent choice.

The Hotel Inca is a little gem of a find in a central part of Porto. We got our room through a last-minute deals website and were pleasantly surprised by the level of service and professionalism. The rooms were comfortable and spotless, if dated, and the buffet breakfast (included in the price) was more than ample. But it was the the friendliness and professionalism of the staff that we appreciated most. They really went out of their way to make our stay a comfortable and pleasurable one. Mrs. Armanda, the manager on the front desk, was especially helpful and a great resource of information on Port.
