3 words of advice: Don't do it! Just have a look at the photos posted....

Do not get this one mixed with the Acro which is just up the road where our friends were staying, so we had something to compare with. Certainly not 3 star, I wouldn't give it a 1. Rooms I am sure are let out by the hour. We didn't even get up for breakfast ofter the first morning, not worth the effort. One of the worst.

From reading some of the other reviews I was prepared to be staying in an absolute dump but in reality its ok. The bedding was clean, as was the bathroom and the staff were friendly and helpful. Its really close to Leidseplein and Heinken Experience is walking distance too. Dont have champagne taste and beer money, you get what you pay for!

One day before our 3-night trip to Amsterdam our travel agent called and explained that hotel Sander which we had booked and paid well in advance was anyway full and that we would be staying at hotel Acca instead. I had read the TripAdvisor reviews before so I knew what to expect. The hotel really was very filthy, and not at all according to any west european standards! The beds were uncomfortable, the toilet/bathroom disgusting, as everything in our room. At least the heating worked. Breakfast was a bad way to start the day, the plates etc were sometimes dirty.. The location was good though. Very nice connections by tram, the neighborhood was both central and quiet. Anyway, PLEASE AVOID THIS HOTEL, it will be a disappointment!

from the entrance lobby this place didnt look too bad. seemed like the perfect cheap deal. when we got to check in at 3 oclock (they said 8am would be fine) we unpacked our bags an put our clothes away. we stupidly left our bags in the room...dont leave anything here. The next day when one of our group needed to take his medication for epilepsy he realised his bag had gone from the locked room (the doors lock behind you automatically. Within his bag was two important drugs that he needs to keep him alive and his passport. Staff in the place where not even bothered. We had to travel to a hospital, a chemist and 2 police stations all the biggest distance you can imagine from each other. which was difficult for our wheelchair bound member of the group. The walls an carpets where full of stains, the bathroom looked like somethin from 1973. DO NOT EVEN THINK about going here. The amsterdam police and paramedics where excellent. Amsterdam is an amazing an beautiful place, the hours of hell this caused where outweighed by lots of fun!

Most of the reviews are accurate, however this is a budget hotel and you get what you pay for. I went with my wife and 2 children (9 & 12) and stayed in room 316. There were lots of small problems (lights, bathroom), however it was clean and we slept well. The breakfast was basic, but fresh. The staff were very helpful. What you get here is a great location at a budget price. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in, yes, but also the cheapest city centre one.

My husband and I treated our Son and his partner as a 30th birthday present to this trip of three nights in Amsterdam. This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and you can imagine our embarrasment in taking our son and partner into this place. On arrival the staff were rude and hostile. The first day we were there the lift broke down and we were on the fourth floor. The steep stairs and carpet were highly dangerous with the bannisters wobbling and very unsafe, the carpets were threadbare and lifting in places with unmentionable stains everywhere, even up the walls. The rooms were tatty, awful and grubby. The first morning we went for breakfast and it was terrible, the tables were dirty and the cups and teapots etc were badly stained and we were presented with dry bread jam and ham. The dining room walls and carpet were also very dirty with electric wires hanging out of the ceiling, very dangerous. That was the first and last time we went for breakfast. The whole stay was absolutely horrendous and we would strongly advise people not to waste their money and stay in this hell hole, we were so glad to go home.

We reserved a quadruple room which resulted to be not a bedroom but the half of a dining room, with four beds set inside, with a filthy bathroom and a huge window with full views to a dump. We couldn't believe our eyes: blankets were sticky, floors and window glasses were dirty beyond imagination, and the bathroom was hellishly disgusting. It stinks, literally!!!! The views from the window are exactly as seen in the pictures: a dirty backyard full of destroyed furnitures, rubbish, plants and rats. It was absolutely disappointing, as it was the breakfast (poor is a light way to describe it). Only the men in the counter were kind. We paid 551 Euro for two nights there (two adults and two children in that rat pit), please don't fall in the same trap!

From start to finish this hotel was terrible. Unfortunately a booking error with Asia Rooms left us desperate days before arriving. Having read the reviews, we decided Hotel Acca's proximity to the Van Gogh Museum might be a saving grace for us, and it was one of the few still available. I wish we'd tried harder. The reception staff were unhelpful and rude. We had booked 2 twin rooms, but were given doubles. Which were totally inappropriate. We were not offerred a discount and only one room was changed. The rooms were really small, unclean and stank. The sink in our bathroom did not connect to the drain, thus when we turned the sink on, it wet the entire bathroom floor. In our friends room, the mould and soap scum deterred them from trying to shower at all. And we have stayed in some questionable hostels in Europe. The hotel does not provide a secure lock up for your luggage during the day, so you leave it at your own risk. And it is a massive risk, as the room it is kept in is accessible to all guests and out of the view of the hotel staff. For the price we paid £72 we were ripped off and not happy. Do not go there.

I stayed there and paid 150 e per night ( there was a big conference in the area on at the time I think so all the hotels were very full ) what a ripp off , the room was very small ,the bathroom door wouldnt open fully so had to slide in and out sideways! the bathroom was horrible old decor and 1 bar of cheap soap, the bed was fine , there was a fridge in the room which didnt work , the decor was dull and dreary and worn , just not pleasant at all , and not 3* barely 2* id say , we stayed out of the hotel all the time and only went there literally to sleep,definitly the worst hotel I have stayed in.

I m afraid to say that this hotel was awful ! Terribly small rooms , old building , no facilities in the room and generally in the hotel and mostly very dirty ! The only good thing about it was that it is in a good location.

I arrived in Amsterdam alone and I found this hotel 'Acca Van Gogh' the location is great, the reception place and the receptioners were friendly and great, you stay in front of van gogh museum, the bedroom was nice and the breakfast was ok. Emanuele from Carrara (Italy)

This hotel really is the house of horrors. We were a group of 5 girls from the UK staying for 3 nights. Upon arrival we were given the basement rooms. The first basement room was disgusting - it had 4 grotty 'beds', very little lighting, a view of the tip from the window, holes in the wall where there had been a fight from the previous occupants, and for some unknown reason a massive blob of wet toilet paper stuck to the wall (presumably to cover up a hole?). Hotel manager had no shame about the state of the rooms and said 'it's amsterdam what do you expect - if we fixed these things, they would just get broken again so what's the point'. The second basement room was just as bad but more bearable because of the heat blasting from the radiators and a few more lights. Dodgy stain on the bathroom floor (looked alot like old blood) and yet more holes in the walls. We did mange to change the first basement room for a double room on the second floor - although the room was slightly better, the bathroom was hideous (avocado green and filthy) and the shower was more of a drip. Thin walls too - my friends woke up to the sound of their neighbours coughing/wretching/vomitting down the corridor. Nice. Breakfast consisted of bread (not even toasted) with slices of ham and cheese. that was it. tea/coffee if you were lucky. We only had breakfast one day because it was so awful. The lights even went out when we were half way through our 'meal' - not sure if this was due to fuse blowing (no cooking was being done so don't know how this could have happened) or money in the meter running out. Certainly not a 3* although the manager will beg to differ - and charges as if it's a 3*! Our opinion of the hotel was shared by most guests we met in the breakfast room that morning. Don't go there!!! Photos to follow....

We were a large group of 12. We stayed for 2 nights and that was enough! The hotel was filthy! The pillows, sheets and carpets were old and filthy. After complaining to the staff, we were given 2 new pillows to share between us. The striped pink and white lumpy bed cover looked more like "Bag Puss" - the children's character, but not as cuddly! The hotel room smelled very damp, and we were afraid to use the wardrobes. A flea pit in a great location. Don't go there!

where do i start the smell that greeted us as soon as we entered the lobby was enough, a bar was non existant, stains on the carpets, had a balcony room had to push the chair against the door to keep it shut, you could hear every single movement throughout the hotel just as good we only used it to sleep in, the breakfast was a joke would not recommend this.........I WAS GOING TO SAY HOTEL.

go if ya in a big group and dont mind stayin in a not so clean not so nice hotel. the loby looks really nice, but the second you walk down to rooms you know its a bit of a hole. stayed in the basement rooms, large and away from everywhere else so you can ave a massive group smoke and play music and no one gives a ----.

Oh where to start!!!! We being 5 fun loving Irish lassies arrived at the glass doors of the Hotel Acca at around 11.30a.m on a sunny september mornig,only to discover that we shared our entrance to the hotel with a Primary school yard,there were screaming children everywhere! On entrance to the building everything seemed fine and there was the cutest little bar hidden away in the corner PERFECT......Anyway I won't keep you much longer,short & sweet- the room was very dissapointing. It was dull & dreary but it had a lovely balcony for which to drop water bombs on the heads of those screaching children!!!(only joking) After all the room was only for sleeping in and the location was unbeatable. So we went about our merry way discovering all the sites and sounds of Amsterdam and on our return requested a drink in the little bar we spotted earlier. The receptionist/barman/handyman etc. opened the bar and took our orders for vodca & beer. He had enough for three vodkas and had one bottle of beer. Hmmmmm we thaught this is going to be some laugh!!!!!! So we went to the Off Licence & baught our own drink and supplys and made our way back to the lounge in the hotel,from that moment on we realized that had we not chosen to stay in the Acca,our stay would not have been quite so memorable,we felt so relaxed and at home the whole time. It was fab! The next day we kept our fingers crossed that the bar had not been stocked up,so we could have another cheap night in,and lo and behold our wish was granted!!!!! I plan on going back to Amsterdam in early 2006 and I will definately be booking into the Acca,simply for the atmosphere it was spot on and really reasonably priced for the location. What an experience.

Booked our annual St Georges Day trip to Amsterdam this year and unfortunately choose the Awful Acca without reading travellers advice. What a mistake!!!!! It can only be described as a dump and being given 3*'s is taking the p***, The room's (or should I say sespits) were a disgrace - filthy bed linen, stained carpets and mold covered bathrooms. Believe me this HOTEL (now there's a joke) is not even up to 3 world standards and I'll go as far to say even the airport toilets were cleaner!!!!! Having arrived quite late we had to endure 1 night in this filthy hole before checking out first thing the next morning and changing hotels. DON'T DO IT....................

We stayed at the Acca Hotel for 3 nights and to class it as a 2* hotel would be being generous! The hotel is listed as a 3*, but is very basic and quite shabby with few in-room facilities. On a more positive note, the staff are very friendly and helpful plus the hotel is in a great location, being a short walk away to a lot of the attractions.

We had read some awful reveiws of this hotel and to be fair it was not as bad as we thought it would be, bathrooms had been modernised and beds comfy, but the overall impression is scruffy, carpets and furnishings are shabby and stained. breakfast is minimal,2 slices bread and slice of cheese and ham per person.

We stayed in the ACCA on Saturday 4th September 2004, the hotel seems to be in two parts one is 'new' and one is 'old'. We were in the new part. We were two adults and two children, one at 13 one at 1.5 and I can't find any fault with our stay at the hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was large, 1 dbl, one single , a travel cot as requested, and a huge very modern bathroom, we had a balcony too. As I say the two previous reviews are at odds with ours but we were very pleased with our stay, as said easy access for trams and the local 'designer shops' and museums etc.

We stayed at the ACCA hotel from Friday to Sunday. The glass dome was leaking in the lobby and there was a funny smell throughout the hotel. The heating pipes banged all night Friday night! The receptionist lady was lovely - very friendly, men didn't have much to say. Breakfast is brown or white bread, butter with jam/nutella and juice and coffee and that's it! (We only had one breakfast the to eat our in the area was dear at €10.50 for a full english!) If you do have breakfast, it's brought to you by the (very slow) staff. There were beer bottles left on our balcony! The ACCA is right across from the Van Gogh Museum and down the road from the Rijks Museum so very central from that point of view. The trams run from the bottom of the road 1 and 5 go into the Centre. I would say to grown ups to stay there only if you've already booked in (as we had), no children!

i stayed in the acca hotel for a week,first of all it should'nt be allowed to be called a hotel,our bathroom had leaking water pipes,the heating did'nt work for the first 3 days,we were freezing and it was not possible to get any food in the hotel whatsoever apart from ordering pizza after 6 o clock. the beds were also very badly covered our bed cover was filthy dirty from the first day and was only changed once in the week we were there. i would not reccomend this hotel to anyone.

We were unfortunate enough to be in a group of twelve who stayed at the terrible Acca. The Lobby area is good and confortable, the rest of the Hotel?? should be condemned how any sane person even give it a one star rating is beyond me. The rooms were dirty lighting had been removed and wires painted over the W.C seat was broken,plumbing was not attached to the basin. The radiator in the bedroom was off the wall and not working,the bedding was dirty in general I will never again stay in this dump.A hostel would be more comfortable

I had to stay in that "dump" for 3 nights. It was a really a bad experience. (Dirty tiny bathroom, dirty floor, ackward bed position, and tiny room) Breakfast consisted in the following mandatory ingredients: 4 pieces of bread, choice of 2 types of jam, 2 cuts of ham, 2 cuts of cheese, a cup of coffe and a juice.

six of us stayed for one night thank god only one we had three rooms ours being the best dirty and very smelly the breakfast was a joke ate out the staff were very nice and helpfull hotel not good
