This hotel is just fine - it's clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is very good. It's difficult to find (we drove down the street twice before we located the hotel even with a navigation system pointing the way) and the parking can be tough. It's on the outer edge of the Cologne shopping area, so it was a long walk to the Dome and the old town area. Decor was a little dated. Overall, no problems and I would consider staying here again but would prefer a location closer to the river.

we're just back from two nights at the astor & aparthotel in cologne. Its a well located hotel, a ten minute walk to the dom. We got the train for 2.30 euros from the airport to the main station (Koln Hbf). We booked a twin room and we were given a smoking room. W asked to swap to a non-smoking room and the receptionist changed us straight away. The room was spacious and clean. Theres a safe inside the wardrobe, although we didnt use it. The breakfast was the best Ive had in a european hotel - lots of choice and pleanty of it! We paid about £57 per night and it was well worth it! Great value for money - couldnt ask for more!!

The hotel is well located right next to the main shoppeing areas and 10 mins walkig to the Hauptbahnof and the Cathedral. Its a small but well intentioned place. Reasonably sized rooms, clean, well maintained and a good choice at breakfast. It wins on the location. The staff was friendly but I would have given it an extra star had it not been for a slight altercation that my brother had at check in time.

We stayed for the weekend at this lovely hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean and bright. The enormous and delecious breakfast buffet was international, while also having a selection of typical German breakfast foods. The centre location is perfect for whatever takes your fancy, as short walk or an even shorter tram ride to the old town with the grand and beautiful Kölner Dom, to the shopping streets, and right around the corner to the best bars and cafes. Best of all were the wonderful friendly and helpful hotel staff! This hotel helped make our stay in Cologne simply incredibly enjoyable. I recommend Astor & Aparthotel to everyone.

We stayed here for 2 nights in Aug 2007 and found the hotel perfect for what we were looking for - a city break. the best thing about this hotel is the size of the rooms and the location. we walked into the reception and the lift and we were thinking "what have we done" because that whole area is very dated. however, our room was lovely (for what we were paying) and the biggest of all our trips. the shower was fantastic and the bathroom (although quite dated) was spotless. the hotel though is best for it's location. cologne is very walkable and this hotel is brilliant for that alone and we had a very enjoyable stay. I would recommend. Spent about €90.00 a night and you could do a lot worse. The breakfast is fine also - lots of choice and very friendly staff.

Stayed here Saturday and Sunday nights on a mini-roadtrip from through France, Belgium and Germany. Best hotel of the trip and Cologne was fantastic! Hotel is in a great location (note the charmingly titled bar across the road!) and handy for shopping and local transport. However we didn't need this as we found walking through the city to the Old Town took about 20 mins. Hotel nice and quiet and staff were lovely and friendly. The room was large and nicely furnished with comfy beds. Breakfast was very good and served until 10.30am. Parking at the hotel was safe and seure and cost 11 Euro per night which was good value considering the central location. Get down to the Old Town down by the river for a great night out, fantastic bars serving great food and local Kolsch beer. All in all a brilliant time and the hotel is superb value for money. Would definitely go back. As soon as possible!!

We stayed here as a group of friends for a couple of nights, finding it to be one of the cheaper options in Cologne. We were really surprised on arrival at how smart, clean and spacious the rooms were. The location was great too. It was about a 10 minute walk to the very centre of Cologne, but all around the hotel are shops and restaurants, though the hotel itself is down a fairly quiet street, so noise wasn't a problem. The breakfast room was also very spacious and nicely decorated and there was a very extensive and tasty breakfast buffet. All in all, I would definitely reccommend this hotel and would definitely return were I to visit Cologne again.

We stayed here for three nights (78 €/night/2 Ps) in room 21. The room was spotless clean as was the bathroom (which is eighty-ish style and would benefit from a more intense brush-over, but let's not be overexpectant ...). The room (neutral-functional though tasteful design, everything quite new and/or very well kept) featured a very comfortable bed with good mattress and a small TV/writing desk area. Storage capacities were very smartly fitted into the room. The area close to Rudolf- and Friesenplatz is perfectly suited to explore Cologne and offers plenty of restaurants and bars. Friesenwall street, the hotel's location, is secure and lively. The street is quiet - though on Friday and Saturday night expect some noise from late-night bar and club visitors from the street if you want to sleep with open windows. But it decreases considerably in the early morning, and on weekdays there is little noise as there are only very few cars on this small street. Breakfast buffet is truly perfect with plenty of home-prepared food and an incredible choice which should meet everone's taste. You sit in an airy room decorated with (obviously periodically changing) contemporary paintings. It was no problem to have breakfast on sunday until 12 noon (hey hotels, please generally extend your breakfast times, people don't necessarily want to get up at 10 am during their holidays!). The hotel offers sauna (tell staff 1hr before you want to do that), but we didn't use that feature. Hotel staff (receptíon, cleaning, serving) truly wants you to enjoy your visit and is extremely welcoming, helpful, professional and cheerful. Summary: Though there might be more stylish hotels in Cologne, but I am quite sure that you will not find better value than this one in the heart of the city!

We stayed in the Astor Apart-hotel in May 2007 for a long weekend and we genuninely had a great experience in this gem of a hotel. Location is brilliant. Stumbled on it to be honest but when we realised where we were we realised our luck. 2 minute walk from the bar street on Freisenplatz; 10 minute walk to the "belgian quarter"; 15 minute walk to the student area and about 20 minutes walk to the Dom and old town. Couldn't get any better. Also the U-bahn is a minute away so if you can't be bothered to walk then there's no need. The hotel itself was exceptionally clean; the rooms were very modern with a lovely bathroom. slight criticism in that our double room was two large single beds pushed together but didn't spoil the overall ambience of the room at all. nice high ceilings and plenty of room. The staff at the hotel were very nice, helpful and spoke perfect english. Breakfast was standard continental buffet, but included in the price so couldn't complain. All in all if you're going to Cologne you have GOT to stay in this hotel. it is the bizzniss.

We have just returned from a fantastic 3 day break in the wonderful city of Cologne. If you have already booked this Hotel you will not be dissappointed or, if you are deciding where to go then book it quick! We arrived about 6pm on a dark & rainy evening and were greeted by a friendly English speaking but not patronising welcome. We were given room 27 which was over looking the small quiet side street on which the hotel stands. The room was of more than ample size and spotless! There was not even 1 spec of mould in the shower which I know will be one of the 1st things people look for as I do too. Breakfast was on a buffet basis and the choice was fantastic with near enough everthing you could want. During the day we made for the Dom & Old Town which was about a 20 min walk but there are so many shops on route it's just basically a stroll and browse while you walk. A tram stops at the bottom of the street (Rudolfplatz) if you need a more direct route. At night there was no need to wander any further than 500 yards from the hotel as there was a 'vast' array of things to do from Night Clubs, Lovely Restaurants, Cosy Bars, Fast Food joints, local bars (in the same street as the hotel - 1euro for a Kolsch and very friendly) and much much more . . . I suppose the best approval anyone could give is would we return to this hotel. A group of eight of us stayed here for two nights, whilst visiting the Xmas markets. The hotel is well placed to either walk into the city, about 15 minutes, or use the trams. All our rooms were very clean and comfortable and of a good standard. As others have reported the breakfast is excellent when considering the price we paid, a really big selection, regularly topped up, plus a nice fresh eating area. All the staff were very helpful. assisting with directions and suggestions, plus arranging for a taxi to take us to the airport. The only minor downside, was that one room being next to the lift shaft did have a bit of noise. Overall all of us thought it was good value for money and would return if we visited Cologne again.

I had the pleasure to stay at the Astor Aparthotel in Cologne for 1 week whilst I was working at the Ford plant on the outskirts of the city. I cant really comment on the city of Cologne because I was working 12 hour shifts and really only saw the hotel, the plant, and the road between the two! Dont know prices either because bill was paid direct by the company! The hotel is small with a tiny but very functional reception which opens directly onto the pavement. There is a parking area at the rear of the hotel accessible via a roller door, but unless you are driving a small hatchback, forget it! - anything larger than an Astra coupe just will not make it, so leave your Merc 320 at home! I was in a single room which was small but well laid out, ensuite with toilet, washbasin and shower cubicle, all of which were surgically clean with the usual supply of sachets of shower gel etc. There was a small desk area incorporating a well stocked fridge, with wines, spirits, mineral waters, confectionary etc., but all at unbelievable prices, so leave the mini-bar alone!!! The television worked well but everything was in German and consisted of phone-ins and embarassing clips of fat fraulines getting their [--] out!! - avoid it at all costs!!! The bed was supremely comfortable and I slept like a log every night, and came home every evening to find that my room had been cleaned, bed made with fresh sheets and a small packet of sweets left on the pillow - little thing, but a nice touch! The hotel also has a wireless internet service which works faultlessly and is free to residents. Breakfast here is superb! Coffee on tap and several different kinds of tea - and not just basic teabags, but real loose tea with little pots you load yourself!, plus all the fruitjuice you want, cerials, boiled eggs, yoghurts etc. Step out of the front door and you have the whole of Cologne on your doorstep, bars and restaurants, takeaways, shops etc. A great little hotel, ideally placed, well run, comfortable and clean. Unfortunately, all the rooms are non-smoking but hey, they all have windows!

There's very little to fault about this hotel. A good location (about 15 min walk from the Dom and 3 mins from metro), in a nice district, especially convenient for the gay bars and clubs. The hotel is spotlessly clean, staff were super friendly and were multilingual. The room was a decent size with TV, and plently of strage space and a comfy bed. The bathroom was fine with a shower, sink, bidet and toilet. Our room faced the main street outside which could be a little noisy but I wasn't bothered by it at all. Breakfast had a large choice of cereals and also hot items such as eggs, ham and bacon along with cheeses, breads, fruit and a nice range of assorted teas. I guess it's continental Europe thing but I still can't believe smoking is allowed in the restaurant! The hotel also has a sauna (though I didn't use it). Would certainly stay there again if visiting Cologne.

We like that hotel a lot! Very good located, great and friendly and very helpfull staff and a fantastic breakfast buffet. The hotel is located in the "palce to be area" !!!

I stay here once a year when I attend a trade show. The service is even getting better each year. The front staff is very friendly, quick and they fulfill your room wishes when possible. I feel like a welcomed customer there. The rooms in the tower-like building are modern and very quiet! Towels, light, bedding, wardrobe, TV: everything top. Room-service was top-notch. Breakfast is wonderful: coffee, lots of different teas, different breads and rolls, croissants, marmelade, muesli, sausage, cheese, eggs, cereals, and on and on. Only the breakfast room is a bit cool, so you won´t stay there longer than your breakfast takes. They got bikes for rent, if you want to explore the city by bike. Not a bad idea! The parking is very narrow, but secure, as they open and close the door everytime after you. From the hotel you are able to walk around without any problems. Very good location. Very good value. I can recommend it!

Although a 10min walk from the Dom, this hotel is situated at the end of the main shopping street so is ideal for shopping and eating. The hotel is comfortable and very clean with friendly and helpful reception staff. The breakfast was good with both hot and cold items available and the food was of a high standard. The room was similar to a Travelodge style accomodation and as with many hotels in Europe only had a shower (no bath); the room was both clean and comfortable and ideal for a short break. Excellent value for money and we would stay here again.

This 3 Star hotel is very nice and well located. Although, the Dom and the central tourist attractions are about 15-20 minutes walk away, there is a main street which is full of designer boutiques, interior design shops and bakeries, all the way down which makes the walk much more enjoyable! There are also plenty of good restaurants and brauhaus' (pubs!) nearby on another main street, all within a 5 minute walk away! The hotel was very clean and had good sized rooms all en-suite with tv and minibar. Power shower is a bonus! Reception staff were friendly and helpful- on one day, we were given only 1 bath towel when there were 2 of us, we informed reception and a bathtowel was provided to us quickly-so service is very good. It was below freezing when we visited Cologne and the heating in our room worked wonders, after a long trek in minus temperatures!! The buffet breakfast was excellent! Great choice on offer, with varieties of muesli, fruit salad, bread rolls, ham and salami, hot english breakfast, selection of teas and juices! The breakfast here is truly scrumptious!! I would definately recommend you to stay at this hotel, as it's good value for money!! The only downside I can think of, is there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but they do have larger room types available (like a small apartment) which does provide these facilities. All in all, great little hotel!

The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the Cathedral. 110 Euros for a double room for two nights. Spotlessly clean and a decent sized room with en-suite facilities. Staff are freindly and informative with a 24 hour reception so no worrying about taking the key with you when you go out. The only reason I didn't give it 10 out of 10 was the distance from the Cathedral area and also no coffee making facilities in the room. I would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at this marvellous small hotel for three nights in December 2007. We were taking a short break to visit the Christmas markets. The location is excellent. Although a 15 mins walk to the Dom and the Rhine it's in a lively (but not noisy) area with upmarket shops and plenty of restaurants and bars. Two of the markets were only a stone's throw away. The walk to the centre takes you past loads of designer shops and boutiques. We had a friendly welcome and they were keen to know whether we were satisfied with the room (we were). The hotel is spotless and our room was large and comfortable with a decent sized ensuite. Breakfast was good, with plenty on offer from freshly squeezed orange juice to bacon and egg if you wanted it. It is run as a buffet so you can eat plenty. The room rate was excellent. I booked direct online and encountered no problems. I recommend this hotel unreservedly. The only minor irritant was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom. A great find!

Stayed 6 December 2004 for 3 nights with friends. Hotel rooms were of a good size with a chair and table for relaxing. Everything very clean and a good breakfast. Downpoint no lounge to sit and relax or have a drink. About 15 minutes walk on the flat from Cathedral but surrounded by very good shops and restaurants in fact its shops and restaurant all the way to the Cathedral!!!. A Christmas market is within 5 minutes walk. Easy access to underground about 3 minutes.

We have just had a three night stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, close to shops and bars, it's about a 25 minute stroll to The Dom. The hotel staff spoke very good English (thanks!) and were always helpful. We used the car park, it's tiny so you need to book - spaces are tight too!! Our room was clean and more spacious than I'd imagined. The only slight down side is whilst it's nicely lit, it's not very brightly lit. A minor point though. We asked for a non smoking room and whilst you could smell cigarette smoke in the hotel, you could not when in our room. Breakfast has been highly rated here and we'd second that - a great choice including cereals, cold meats and cheese, decent sausage and egg (didn't try the bacon) and bread and cake. We'd stay here again without any doubt.

This hotel was in a great location to get around Cologne. The rooms were spotless, comfy and very nice sized. The staff was just wonderful and made sure our stay was perfect. The breakfast was fantastic and more choices than I could imagine. Location to shopping and the Christmas markets was great. Also many great coffee shops and small restaurants near by. What more can I ask? Maybe to stay another week or two! I would recommend the hotel for business travels, singles and gay or straight couples!
