This little hotel is a great find in the expensive & glamorous city of Cannes. I go to Cannes 3 times a year on business and need to stay close to the Palais where the events take place. I tried apartments and hotels. It's impossible to get a 5 star hotel next to the Palais and I am not willing to walk from the Martinez where I used to stay. I was lucky enough to find this little gem behind the Majestic Hotel. It is small , simple but very clean and more importantly than that very friendly. The staff is wonderful greeting you every day by your name and attending to your needs. The breakfast is also a great touch. No need to go out and look for a place. They have very nice amenities which includes slippers. I highly recommend for anyone who wants a great location while visiting Cannes.

We stayed at the America for two nights at the end of September having read about it on trip advisor. The room was large and pleasant with a nice bathroom, but nothing exceptional. What made this a truly memorable experience was the friendliness and helpfulness of the two receptionists, Laurence and Pascale. The hotel is also in an excellent position in the heart of Cannes. We appreciate the reviews that led us to book the America and would recommend it to others.

Was in Cannes in early August 2007. Enjoyed our stay at Hotel America primarily because of its location. It is about 1 block from the Croissete and 1 block from the Palais des Festival. We paid 165 Euros per night for a junior suite ($231) including breakfast. I'd recommend the junior suite as it gives you more room to spread out and the regular rooms looked very cramped. Breakfast was okay - nothing to write home about (no hot food) but nice to eat a croissant and cheese with coffee before heading out. We rented a car and the parking garage was in the basement of the Palais des Festival. Definitely a great thing to do -- we got a 7 day parking pass and it was one of the only bargains in Cannes. I think we paid something like 81 Euros for the week. The great thing about Hotel America was that you could drop everyone off at the hotel and then drive a few blocks to the parking garage. The staff at the hotel were great. Laurence was very friendly and Steve the owner even invited us for a drink during the fireworks on the beach. You'd never have that friendly, personal touch at the bigger hotels. Is it as nice and luxurious as the 5-star hotels? Of course not. It's comfortable and air conditioned but don't mistake the Excellent rating for parity when it comes to room (that's one of my pet peeves with this site -- they should separate ratings by class of hotel). I rated it Excellent for its location, friendliness of staff, and price (compared to the 5 stars).

We are just back from a week in the Hotel America and would support all the other favourable reviews of the hotel Location 4 mins on foot from the train station,3 mins from the Croissette and even less to the main shopping street Rue D'Antibes. 100 yards from the express bus stop to Nice airport on the Rue des Serbes(note that coming from Nice airport this bus stops at the port which is about 10 mins from the hotel.We came to the hotel using the ordinary bus from Nice airport -excellent value at 1-30 euros but we would not do it again-not convenient with suitcases and the journey takes almost an hour and a half. Room Small and compact but has everything you would need.Towels changed every day and the room was cleaned very well.one minor complaint-there was only one English TV channel-Sky News. Breakfast Excellent value-all that you would want. Reception Very friendly at all times and the two receptionists spoke excellent english. Overall and excellent hotel-tightly run.The owner is always on hand and it shows.We paid 130 euros per night for a double room with breakfast.Excellent value .We will be back

We chose Hotel America for a seven-night stay in Cannes as it was rated a Number One by TripAdvisor at that time. It was a 100% hit. Just a few bullet points about this hotel, to highlight the details that were not covered in previous reviews - Convenience. Includes not only the great location at a five minutes-distance from the beach, but also the added services such as the Wi Fi connection, for which you pay ONLY five Euros at the end of your stay. - Cleanliness. The floor in the room looks fresh and nice to walk barefoot. - Attitude. You hear their greetings and see the smiles every time you pass the by the reception in the hotel lobby. You can also see the director as his office is open and he also seats at the reception at times. He seems to be an intelligent and hard-working person. - Extras. Interesting books selection in the lobby. I read the biography of the Formula I commentator Murray Walker, but the books collection also included some fiction prize-winners. Espresso coffee machine, free to use. Red carpet at the entrance door. I would definitely recommend to this hotel if you decide to stay in Cannes.

Just come back from staying at this hotel for 7 nights. The hotel was very clean, rooms were lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It made the holiday so much more enjoyable. The hotel is really convenient to everywhere- next to beach, shops and piles of restaurants and bars. I would throughly recommend it!

Booked five nights at this hotel after reading all the positive reviews here, and I agree - this is a true find. I have never experienced a more friendly and service-minded staff. And in addition they speak English very well. Location: 10/10 Price: 10/10 Service: 11/10 Cleanliness: 10/10 Very good value.

We read the reviews on Tripadviser and decided to book. The positive reviews were accurate. This is a great 3 star hotel in a fab location just behind the Majestic, off the Croisette. The staff are incredibly friendly, the hotel rooms are clean and bright and at €300 for two nights in a junior suite (which you don't really need) it was excellent value for money. When we return we will book a standard room which looked very cosy. The receptionists can not do enough to help and if you are looking for a cental location, basic but very comfortable and clean rooms then do try this. Go to L'Annex for lunch, on the beach, a two minute walk from the hotel - the best fish ever!

This hotel must be the best kept secret in the South of France. I found it by accident a some years ago and I LOVE it. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. The position couldn't be better 2 minutes walk to the beaches and the Croisette and 2 minutes to walk to the Rue d'Antibes where the shops are just amazing. The hotel is so comfortable and clean, and the choice of food at breakfast is excellent. You can also visit many places (Grasse, Monte Carlo etc.) easily by train, (station 5mins walk away) so you don't need a car.

This was our first trip to France and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel's location is within easy walking distance to many stores, restaurants and beach. The accomodations were very clean and comfortable and I would highly recommend this hotel.

America Hotel is a great hotel in Cannes. What a find! It wasn't just a great value, it was a great hotel overall. The location could not have been better. It is one block off the Croisette, right behind the Majestic Barriere, and very close to all shops and restaurants. It is a one block walk from the beach and promenade (ask for beach towels). Sometimes when I see three stars in Europe, I am not sure what to expect, but this was great. It was more than I expected. This is like a Marriott Courtyard, or Hampton Inn. It is modern, very clean, and has a nice decor. The rooms were standard size, the bathroom was very nice and the shower/tub had an American-style shower head and good water pressure (sometimes hard to find in Europe!). They had nice toiletries too (Nivea). The service was great. Everyone who worked there was very friendly, helpful, and spoke English. The breakfast buffet was included in the rate and it was fine. Expect the standards - cereal, croissants, pain au chocolate and other pastries, fruit (in fructose syrup), and meats/cheese. I thought the coffee was very good too. They will make you expresso drinks too, if you ask. The only thing you don't get at this property is a view of the Med. Sea. If that is important to you, pay the extra $300 a night to stay right on the Croisette. Otherwise, I recommend America Hotel. I would stay here again if we return to Cannes!

Been a couple of time to the America and don t even ask myself before booking: the location is perfect, service very personnalised and good value for the price (and very clean).

The location is just off the main street - so why is this great: 1) Just a stroll off to the main street. 2) I can sleep at night with not too much noice.

I stayed at the hotel in February 2008 and its location is excellent. This is truly a 3* hotel, with a friendly staff, and a very clean room. The hotel is 1 minute away from the Congress Center and the Beach, just in the same area as the other 5* hotels of Cannes. Quiet street at night. Breakfast in room is good, but you can also go to the buffet.

Don't miss Hotel America.... If you're there on business, you can just walk to the "Palais" (congress center)... If you're there on vacation, just walk to go relax on one of Cannes many beautiful private beaches or head for an active afternoon of swimming, water skiing, and para-sailing... Everything is so close to the hotel, it's very convenient... The hotel staff is very friendly, extremely professional....They welcome you with a smile and make you feel at home ! The best kept secret in town !

The Hotel America--situated behind, and therefore in the shadow, of Cannes' number one and most expensive hotel, the Majestic--is a modest, charming, cost effective alternative to the grand and pricey hotels on the Croisette.In the interests of full disclosure, I must say that, if I didn't have a guaranteed standing reservation each January due to my past and continued patronage during MIDEM, the Cannes Music Festival, I would be hesitant of letting on about this little treasure--the same way my wife and I are careful not to discuss how terrific our baby sitter is for fear of losing her to rival parents!For conference, festival, and exhibition attendees, it's a hidden gem, just one block away from the Palais des Festivals, yet amazingly far from the din, hustle and bustle of the Croisette itself.The rooms are immaculately cared for by a faithful staff (who coincidentally also serve breakfast coffee-- as you serve yourself ample portions of fruit salad, croissants, cheeses, dried fruits, and even cereal!--before they do their morning rounds), the front desk is always manned by long time attendants known for their cheerfulness, interest in helping, and love of their families (baby pictures and the like are de riguer), and the hotelier is a hospitable polyglot who, although originally from Germany, seems more Swiss in his most professional attention not only to details, but to his sincere desire to accommodate his clientele.The rooms are tastefully decorated, albeit modest compared to the opulence of the suites found on the Croisette, and the bathrooms--which are just a tad smaller than the bedroom itself!--are beautifully laden in marble.As long as one's interest is spending time outside of the hotel (for business and sightseeing), it's a comfortable, utilitarian place to sleep and no more, with a small lobby that allows for some meetings.Interestingly, despite the fees one pays to the big boys on the Croisette, you get surprisingly little. Fitness rooms, for example, are either not found at all, or far from first rate, there are no indoor pools, and the room service is cold and antiseptic (I have also stayed at the Majestic, the Martinez, and Elton John's favorite, the Carlton, in front of which he filmed his video to the hit song "I'm Still Standing."). What you get at the big hotels is a view (sometimes) of the Croisette, and by extension, the Mediterrean Sea, and the ambiance of a large lobby, full service bar, and restaurant.The America Hotel offers none of these, of course, but it is a stone's through from all the Hotels, all the restaurants in town, the exclusive shopping on the Rue D'Antibbes, is a few blocks closer to the train, and is 1/4 block away from the Bus that goes to the Airport. Really... a great deal for travellers on a budget, provided by nice, friendly, reasonable people.
