Nice Hotel, nice staff and prices are quite reasonable. I'd definitely recomend it
we hope return this summer to use the swimming pool.
Apart from the bad behavior of fellow guests. The hotel is excellent value great location and very clean. Easy walking distance to the Grand Plage etc. On the bus route, No 6, from the Airport cost 1 euro 20. I found this by accident on arrival. The bus continues into the centre very easy to use a car is quite unnecessary.
The good points are that it is priced well and in a super location, just 5 mins away from La Grande Plage. The no 6 'stab' bus from the airport drops you right outside the door for €1.20. Beside a supermarket, asian museum and cute boulangeries & patisseries. Comfortably close to bars and restaurants without the rowdiness. It is clean and the staff are very pleasant and accommodating. Nice sized pool and solarium (area for sun beds). Clean. Large breakfast area (€10 extra per day, must be booked the night before). The place however has a few negative points. The hotel is basic almost to the point of being anal. The room you get looks exactly like the picture, however, in actuality, it is very, very small and the decor and fittings are cheap looking and painfully functional. It is too clinical, almost like a psych ward (I imagine!) I guarantee this would effect your head if you stayed longer than a weekend. Unbelievably, there is no airconditioning so you must leave the window open at night. This is the biggest problem, the hotel is situated at a small but busy roundabout. The noise of revving cars and the god-forsaken wingey mopeds through the night almost tipped me over the edge. The walls and doors are also thin so be prepared to bring earplugs. The cleaners don't seem to use Bluloo so the toilet has a permanent pee smell. I was also disgusted to learn on the last day that pets are allowed to stay in the rooms. The thought of someone's mangey hound lying on the same pillows and bedspread that I was using made me actually heave. I did laugh however at one British tourist complaining that the place was very dark....I had to point out that in most parts of France there is a timer light as you enter corriders and other common areas. They all do it. Toilet lights are only switched on during use. The Tulip is the same.
maivais acceuil, chambre minuscule, douche microscopique, table médiocre et en quantité insufisante
bon
We stayed for 2 nights at the end of August. Staff very friendly and helpful; rooms same size as UK budget hotels; excellent shower and very good location - only 5 minutes from town centre. Add to that a pleasant pool and gardens and you've got great value for an August stay for the same price as a budget hotel in southern England! We had read that some people had found it noisy from traffic - not us, and we had a room facing the road.
We stayed at the Tulip Louisiane mid August for 3 nights and 1st impressions were not too good. The hotel is very basic, and at a cost of €99 per night for what you got, a bit pricey too. However the room, although very small was clean and was cleaned each day. No aircon so you have to have a window open and the road outside can get a bit noisy. TV showing CNN, Eurosport etc was new. The corridors are very dark in this place! There is street parking but it was always full and was metered so you can use the hotel garage @ another €10 a night!! The pool is ok with sunbeds to relax for a while early evening if you have been out all day. I thought the location was ok - only a 10 or 15 mins or so walk to the centre (casino etc) but uphill on the way back. Overall i'd say if you can find simillar priced hotels available with better reviews then dont book the Tulip - But if not and your coming to Biarritz and its all thats available then why not...But expect a bed for the night - nothing else!!
What a dump! booked in for ten nights only stayed 2. I booked a family room for 3 we had a small twin room with a put me up bed wedged beetween two single beds. the room was so small you could not get the chair out from under the desk to sit on! No bath only a small shower room. The put me up bed had not been put together properly so when my daughter got into bed the first night she fell through it. The only saving grace was that the hotel staff agreed with me and after complaining to my booking agent I was given a full refund. Threre are NO family rooms at this 2* hotel.
They state there is no free lunch and boy did we get "less than we paid for " at the Tulip. I have stayed at Tulips before and they are generally cheerful and a good value. This place is a dump ! Poor linens, low end beds, dark corridors. The location is actually a good 10 minute walk up the hill from town. Unfortunately, the only redeeming quality was a decent pool.
The Tulip Inn, Biarritz, has a very fancy website, boasting of a pool, business facilities, multilingual staff etc. However, when we stayed there in July 2007 the reality was that the hotel presented itself as a basic facility which fell far short when compared to other 3 star hotels we stayed in in France. Whilst our bedroom and bathroom were clean, the design of the room was very dated and the beadspread etc. were clearly very old. The room had no airconditioning and so was extremely hot and stuffy at night, making sleep very difficult. We could not open the window because our room was close to a busy road and the traffic noise, even with our window shut, was at all times very, very loud. What little sleep we got in the hot, sticky room was thanks to the use of earplugs. For the Tulip Inn's 99 Euro per night price and its 3 Star rating, we frankly expected a far better quality of hotel.
Not really a 4 star hotel!
My room was clean and okay for a night in Biarritz. But it was so bare and all white that I felt almost like in a mental asylum. Had to resort to the TV since Biarritz was an absolutely dead city already in the early evening. The Tv (just a small monitor) was high up on the wall, practically touching the ceiling, so after a short time of viewing, one had an aching neck de luxe, whether sitting on the terrible chair or lying down on the bed. Breakfast was included in admittedly reasonable room price, fortunately, since I would hate the thought of spending an extra 10 euro on so on the depressing buffet. Just processed and tinned food, and very little choice. Only bright point in Biarritz: An exceptionally tender and juicy entrecote entre at the restaurant Le Caritz (at Place du Port Vieux) followed by a good creme brulee. The place was just about filled up at dinner time, many English families, also with kids, and comments from neighbouring tables confirmed that both food and service was of high standard.
Stayed here in Jan 2007. Easy to get to from the Airport as the bus that you can pick up right outside the airport drops off across the road from this hotel. Was really quiet as out of season so not sure what it would be like in the summer. Rooms simple but has everything required. Cleaned every day. Only about a five minute walk into the centre of Biarritz if that.
Have just returned from a pleasant one night stay in the hotel. As others have stated, the reception is friendly and efficient. My room had a multilingual tv and tea making facilities. The bathroom was well looked after and the shower, toilet and sink looked new. If you get a room on the Rue Guy Petit side of the hotel I can imagine it would be quite noisy during the week as there is a mini mart opposite the hotel, which would get deliveries etc. As for my room, which was on the other side of the hotel - I had the window open overnight to let some breeze in and found the noise was comparable to most town centre hotels. The road did not seem any busier than others in Biarritz.
Friendly staff both on both main desk and restaurant , room was OK for a 2* , wouldn't make 3* though in my opinion. parking was as stated extra at 9 Euro a day . TV channels all French/Spanish/German However previous comments about the noise levels (which necessitate the window closed to be able to get any sleep) , and the lack of aircon I was there in mid october and temp overnight in room with window closed got to 28C.
I stayed in the Tulip Inn for 3 nights. I have to say I cannot complain. It is basic but very clean. Clean towels every day and linen. The staff were really friendly and accomadating. There is a pool - again basic but was nice to have a dip on return from the beach and just chill out. It is really central- 10 minute walk from the beach and Centre Ville. I would highly recommend this hotel for a budget short break. Breakfast was included. Food was fine, cereal, tinned fruit and pastrys. I paid €67 a night so this was more than I expected. Overall was impressed.
Was really disappointed with the Tulip Inn. I reckon it was built in the 1970's and has not been painted since. It is located next door to a supermarket and it is very noisy with early morning deliveries. To compound matters, there is no Air Conditioning so the windows had to be open. In the height of July this was not pleasant. In fact it was really unpleasant because there was a plastic sheet under the cotton sheets. We did not sleep well here. On their website they show a lovely picture of a swimming pool however this pool is now surrounded by a fence and has a prison feel to it. I think if we had booked this hotel as a 2* we would not have felt so let down. Overall, the feel of the place overall was incredibly tatty. We paid €91 euros a night and I know for a fact if we had booked a little earlier and paid maybe a couple of Euros more we would have had a much better deal.
Just got back from a four day stay. Was a bit apprehensive after reading previous reviews but having visited wanted to say that the hotel was very good value for the money we paid. Yes the corridors are dark but you can put the lights on. Breakfast was very typical for continental breakfast and had no problem when asking for more. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful especially since I speak no french at all! Would just like to thank the previous person for the tip on the no 6 bus from the airport excellent service and would say to anyone going to Biarritz always check the buses out first.
Just back yesterday from a 5 day break in Biarritz. One of the best breaks we have had, while the hotel needs painting here and there, we found it great value, good location, staff could not be more helpful or friendly, lovely breakfast, altho you need to be down before 9.15am to get all on offer. Really surprised at the few negative reviews that we read about this hotel on this site. Use Biarritz as base, and then try to get to San Sebastian, St. Jean de luz and St. Jean Pied de Port. all lovely day trips. Bus NO 6 - from the airport, €1.20 Leaves you outside hotel, and centre is very close, 5-7 minutes walk Have a great time.
The room was unclean, very small. The bathroom was good. The reception lady was not interested in giving tourist information. The hotel is dark. The furniture is dark. A lonely planet recommended 2 star would be much better than this hotel. This should not be a 3 star hotel but a very average 2 star.
I have last week a stay in this hotel and i have a very good stay for the money i have to spend !!The hotel is well situated and with all the comfort you are waiting because it was as in the internet site I pay 45 euros !!! for a double room for breakfast booked for a internet discount system . The staff was nice with me and breakfast good with a lost of choice . i will return in this hotel
This hotel should not be a three star but a two star. Surly staff, reception doesn't know if restaurant will be open the same night ; leaky shower cabin; no air conditioning and impossible to sleep because of noise when window is open. Tiny rooms. Arrive early for breakfast if you want any pain au chocolat or any other pastries except bread. Well situated but we would never go back there. Featured on Lastminute and popular with Ryan Air Passengers (including rugby supporters)
Adequate - that is all I can think of to describe this rather soulless hotel which is situated a good walk from the centre and sea front. I can't really put my finger on it, but it lacks any warmth and individual character whatsoever. My room was spotless, in fact rather clinical with a 'crispy' waterproof mattress protector. What was disconcerting though was the knock on the door to herald the arrival of a cleaner with a huge can of flea repellant which he was spraying all over every room! I didn't see any fleas. There are long dark passageways (timed switches which plunge you into darkness ensure a rather depressing feel when alighting from the lift). The breakfast (which I thought was included but was €9 extra) was continental buffet and excellent. Tea-making facilities are provided in the rooms but my tea bags, paper cups were not replaced. A bowl of sweets was in my room on arrival but disappeared the next day. The staff were pleasant and reasonably helpful. It may be useful to know that a number 6 bus to and from the airport stops directly outside the hotel (on Sundays and Bank Holidays, the bus is number C).
I STAY THIS MONTH 3 NIGHTS IN TULIP INN BIARRITZ AND I HAVE A VERY GOOD STAY . SIMPLE BUT ALL WHAT YOU CAN NEED FOR A ROOM , GOOD BREAKFAST , A SWIMMING POOL AND NOT FARE FROM THE BEACH 5 MN BY FOOT
Though an assiduous visitor of this web, this is my first review ever, partly out of shyness because I am not a native English speaker. Nevertheless I feel morally obliged to write it because it was truly one of my worst hotel stays ever. We got a very good offer and thought (55 euros/night) it would just be ok for one night stay. Surely location is fine, and staff ok, but my first-of-all concerns considering hotels is just cleanliness. If that is not right, what is the use of the rest? I was there with my wife, and this was just like Internet photographs …25 years later. The mattress and the pillow were smelly, let alone the curtains. The carpet was stained in several places and even the blanket and sheets had some stains in them! The bathroom was desperately in need of a reform, if only changing the bath curtain! Well this is all I wanted to say, and as I told you, is the only review I ever did, and because I consider its overall rating so unjust! I do not know if there are rooms reformed and not-reformed (the only explanation I find for the so positive reviews). If that were the case (and you got a new room) it may be a very convenient and inexpensive hotel (a phone call would be helpful to confirm that). If not, you can believe me or not, but I already did my duty to warn you!
This summer I have visited Biarritz and I stayed at this hotel. I liked it so much that it's even hard to say. First of all, staying in your hotel allowed me to get the whole satisfaction from my vacation.I liked very much that you can return to your hotel whenever you want and this is exactly what young people need. Another advantagious thing was breakfast served at your hotel. As I am a vegetarian I could fluently choose from the great variety of non meaty food. Also I have to praise very polite, well working and well trained administration and staff of your hottel. There was no drawbacks considering their work.On the whole, your hotel and gorgeous surroundings of Biarritz made my vacation perfect. To sum up, I hope that your hotel will not change in the future and when I visited it again it will make my holiday as exciting as it was this summer. Thanks
we went to biarritz in tulip inn louisiane the week end of 6 may ! we had reserve our room with a very good price by internet and had a very good welcome and help with reception staff. Rooms are very ok for a stay for week end or short break , clean , with tv , tea facilities . it is a very pleasant way to visit biarritz and the region or a good place to stay as there is a nice swimming pool . i have enjoyed the good buffet breakfast and i have taste too the restaurant of hotel " baton rouge " with specialities of louisiane . i think that it is the best money value hotel for biarritz . if you want spend more .... you will find easily
We booked a long weekend in Biarritz flying with Ryanair and after looking at alot of hotels on the net we settled with the Tulip Inn. We booked this hotel through an english company. I had read the review on this site about the overbooking so we were a bit wary. But we had no problems whatsoever. We actually arrived at the hotel an hour before check in time. The receptionist was very nice and gave us our room key and explained to us that the room might not be ready but we were welcome to leave our cases in the room. When we got to the room it was ready. The photos on the net are exactly what you get. The room although not very big is adequate for what we wanted and that was a place to put our head down. We had not intended spending all day in the room. The room was spotless with tea making facilities. We did ask for coffee as neither of us drink tea but we were told that there was no coffee sachets for the room... we thought this a bit odd seeing as we were in France after all!! We found the location of this hotel ideal. It was only a short stroll into the "centre ville" and was in a nice residential area. The only downfall I have with this hotel is the breakfast. If you are not down early (they start serving breakfast at 07.30) there will be nothing left and we found that the staff in the dining room were not too keen to replenish the food. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and look forward to our return.
We were anxious about our stay here due to some of the reviews we had read on tripadvisor. We had booked some cheap flights with Ryan air and were seeking some good value accomodation for a cheap (just over £100 for 3 nights!) short 3 night break - hence why we booked the Tulip Inn. The hotel has some great plus points: - It is very near the airport (Biarritz airport only 10/15 mins from centre anyway) but it cost us£14 Euro to get there in a taxi from airport. On eay back we opted for the bus which stops outside the hotel for just over a Euro each!! - The room was very clean and well appointed. The shower was excellent and the room had tea making facilities. The room was very similar to a travel inn/lodge. So if you are looking for luxury, or to spend alot of time in the room - perhaps this might not be for you. - The hotel is situated a 10 minute walk from the centre, which suited us fine - just enough to walk off dinner! All in all Biarritz is a lovely spot for a short break. It would be easy to spend alot of money on a hotel in the centre and gain nothing apart from location.
It is a bit of a hike (10-15minutes) uphill from downtown and the beach. At the room rate, it's worth the walk.
we had last week a nice stay in tulip inn louisiane in biarritz . this hotel offers you verry good money value and it is near center . the staff are nice , room are simple but verry clean and you have a special tea facilities in all rooms . a other good point is the restaurant baton rouge with goosd wine and specialities from louisiane ( original!!) . i am waiting for summer to come back and use the swimming pool
Hotel booked four months in advance, confirmation recieved, on arrival the hotel was completely over booked, so had to move large numbers to another hotel a long way away, those staying remarked that the rooms were small & very few staff to deal with a large number of pre booked guests, no pre warning to anyone, despite the majority were net bookings with confiration, so e mail warning was possible, not up to standard of the other biarritz hotels for sevice or room quality.
It served its purpose, bt the hotel was average, although good value for money.
Hotel was good, amenities were good and adequate. The location was excellent.
I just stayed 5 nghts at the Tulip Inn (September 2004). The room was small and had no air conditioning, so it was extremely uncomfortable in the hot and humid weather. The room had a large window that opens completely, but the NOISE!! Mon dieu! All night, the sounds of cars, motorcycles, trucks, and drunks kept me awake. The worst part was the drunk (whom I recognized as the very rude young man working the front desk when I came in at night) who urinated into the swimming pool and shouted obscenities for about an hour between 2-3 AM. The women who worked the front desk during the day, in contrast, where very polite and very helpful. But I strongly recommend that, if you can afford nicer accomodations near the beaches, you do that. It will be worth it. (NOTE: The pool is not nearly as nice as it appears to be in the on-line photos I saw for this hotel. It is fairly dirty and sits along a noisy street. You can not relax there.)
Stayed for one week in Aug '04. The rooms were very clean but extremely small, especially if you have a triple room. The triple rooms have 2 beds plus camp beds which are slat ones and not comfortable (ok for kids). The pool is fine and there were always plenty of sun beds spare although the hotel seemed quiet when we were there. Doors slam alot at night and the hotel is popular with students so they roll in late. Receptionists were very helpful and pleasant (and spoke English) Restaurant was expensive (cost about 100 euros for a meal for 5 (2 kids meal) and breakfast is 8 euros but there are lots of cafes/bakeries which sell crossaints at a fraction of that. Central location, 10mins walk to beach although it's an uphill walk on the way back! There is free parking locally but it's hit and miss as to whether you can get it. We were ok for the week we stayed. Parking is available at hotel but is abit pricey (can't remember how much but we were ok on the street). Biarritz is beautiful!
Well-situated hotel close to centre and main beach but awkward to find initially as insufficient signs around town. Generally happy with the hotel except room quite small, lack of storage space and worst of all was the plastic undersheets which made for unpleasant sleep (or rather lack of). Food good and staff friendly. Had to park our car 300 metres away from hotel as lack of sufficient parking spaces on-site. Fairly busy main road noisy throughout the night. Enjoyed the outdoor pool which is reasonable size.
We have just returned from a week staying here and thought that it was excellent value for money. The rooms though small are clean and comfortable and the garden and swimming pool were great to relax in. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast was a bit expensive at 8 euros but was plentiful eggs, cold meats and cheeses as well as fruit, yogurts and breads and pastries. Although it is a short walk from the town centre and the beaches we thought that this made it quieter and the garden more than made up for it. We hope to return maybe for a short winter break.
We stayed here in late August. The location and staff were fine but I woke up on the first night with bugs crawling all over me. (No exageration). I don't know if they were little roaches or bed bugs but they were in abudance. It then drew my stained sheets which makes it look like it has been a problem for a while and probably not restricted to the room we were in.
The hotel is located a 10 Minutes walk from the city centre. The hotel is ok. Breakfast was continental (croissant, Juice, coffee, butter, jam, fruits, eggs, bread, cheese). A Supermarket was just around the corner. I was disappointed from Biarritz itself, I expected more from a town, which has such a name. The beach not clean at all, that was ugly. If you are a value Traveller, take a train to San Sebastian, Spain, there you get what you expect for your money.
