This hotel is cheap but you get exactly what you pay for. The rooms are bare and unwelcoming and the walls and carpets are stained. There are some good points. The hotel is well situated, the bathroom was clean, and the breakfast (which is NOT included in the hotel price) is good. However, on the downside, the walls are paper thin and we could hear everything from the rooms around....despite the fact that we had booked the most expensive room in the hotel (room 7). While the staff member at breakfast was pleasant, the same could not be said about the person who checked us in who was unfriendly to the point of rudeness. Not a place I would recommend.

Very surlly management, rooms very poor, smelly communal shower and bed bugs. Both my wife and I were bitten (April definitely not Mosquitoes). My best advice would be to book elsewhere, management like this deserves no better.

My girlfriend and I entered our room with some trepidation - the photos looked better than the real thing. Horrified to see that the loo had a macerator fitted to it, and the view from the window onto someones less than pristine underwear on the clothes line left us with the impression that we should not have been such cheapskates and booked a better hotel. However, these fears were soothed by the owners friendliness even though we spoke little french / basque and him zero english. He did everything he could to make sure we had a good stay. And there is a pretty good restaurant in the same building (the owner is the chef), and thats where this hotel comes into its own. Ok, the service wasn't five star but the food and wine was superb, good honest french / basque cuisine. This place may get poor reviews, and it is for budget travellers (for 50 euros a room what do you expect?) but the rooms are clean, its close to the beach, and theres a great pattiserie out front. I love the place,, so much so that we've booked already for this year.

The room had no fan or air conditioning aside from a window that opened onto a scenic view of the kitchen. The window had to be left open at nights to minimise the risk of us spontaneously combusting due to the heat. Sleep was nigh on impossible due to the melodic, soothing sounds of shouting and crashing from the hotel kitchens, and the delightful melodies of flushing toilets from around the hotel into the sceptic tank by our window. At one point I was seriously considering sleeping in the hire car, this option was denied to me in the second week when one of the fine upstanding locals stole it. The woman on the reception desk (who I believe was one of the owners) was probably one of the surliest hotel receptionists I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. She seemed to resent our presence in the hotel, I think she must have skipped the manners lessons at school. The hotels breakfast time was rather expensive, it worked out over A#5 for a bowl of mouldy cereal and a cup of tea! We only ate there once. On a positive note the Boulangerie across the road was very nice, the Pain Au Chocolates were especially good and the lady was very nice, I wish we could have stayed there instead.
