My girlfriend and I spent five nights here as part of a trip around a few countries in Eastern Europe. As has already been mentioned by other reviewers, the hotel is in a very quiet area and has a real "safe" feeling due to the proximity to many embassies (particularly the US Embassy) and the increased police presence in the area. It is within easy walking distance of Charles Bridge, although it is a bit of an incline on the way back, which isn't too bad, except when you have had maybe a drink or two too many! The hotel appears to be part of a small chain (from the literature in the hotel) however it has the look and feel of a small, family run hotel. The lobby area is rather small, but that is very much in-keeping with the overall design of the hotel. The room we had was very spacious and felt more like a junior suite than a double room. We had a decent sized double bed, a sofa (more like a chaise lounge) and a very good sized bathroom with a bath and seperate shower. Also, unusually for Eastern Europe, there was tea and coffee making facilitie in the room. On the minus side, they provided the usual shower gell and shampoo bottles, but never replaced them during our five nights. Not the end of the world, but you do expect a hotel of this class to at least replenish when necessary and not make you have to use your own! The reception staff were always polite and helpful and went out of their way to pint us towards a very good restaurant for my birthday celebration dinner (Rios Vysehrad - reviewed seperately). Breakfast was a buffet style and there was a reasonable amount of choice, though not as much as you might hope for. There were notices on the tables advertising omelettes for an extra fee of 2.5 Euros (if I remember correctly) which I thought was a bit of unnecessary penny pinching - especially as they provided scrambled egg in any case! Overall it is a pretty good hotel, and deserving of it's four stars.
Philip was extremely pleasant and easy to work with during the booking process, and during the stay the staff was pleasant and helpful. They delivered precisely what they said they would in terms of accommodations and pricing. The hotel is in an excellent area - quiet, safe (near the US Embassy so lots of policemen), and very convenient to the Tram line and to the historical sites. The room was extremely spacious (bordered on being a suite), clean and convenient. The toiletries offered were exceptional. Breakfast was fantastic and offered a broad spectrum of options from full to healthy and all was delicious. It was a perfect experience! Bravo!
We have stayed at this hotel several times and the location is great. It is on a small narrow and quiet street. It is a short walk to Charles bridge and pretty close to the castle. The rooms are charming and the interior is well done. The staff are very friendly and they serve a nice breakfast. You can have drinks in there bar area which is small but very nice. They have indoor garage parking which is nice since the off street parking is impossible and it is better to have the secured parking. A very nice high quality small hotel that we will continue to use on our trips to Prague.
Booked this hotel on Venere.com following good reviews, and we didn't regret. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and nice spacious bathroom. Location is brilliant, right next to town and close to the castle, also near all the embassies. Breakfast included was ok too without being amazing. And you get free Wifi at reception (for the geeks). The people are reception were not the most smiling people but they did their job properly so can't complain. Would definitely recommend it if you plan a nice romantic week end. Oh an restaurant wise, we visited Chez Marcel following reviews, personnally I wouldn't recommend it unless you're after a french atmosphere in a czeck town (and the meals were nothing amazing for a good french price).... try Olympia instead near the bridge next to Charles's bridge...its listed on the michelin guide, the food is simply tasty and affordable in a fantastic place...cant go wrong there! (and cheap beer too ;-)
Excelent Old house with new interior design. Rooms and bathrooms very large! good breackfast . The distric is for to dream. embassys district, very close to castle. Internet free in lobbie.
We couldn't have been happier with Constans Hotel. Being located so centrally in the old town, in a nice quiet street, it was great to stroll out of the hotel to great restaurants, the castle, and other fantastic sights so close by. Our room at Constans was huge, with a big bathroom (shower & bath), which were very clean & well presented. The bath & shower products supplied by the hotel were very nice also. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help with anything we wanted to know about Prague. The breakfast was lovely. We will definitely be returning to Prague, and would only stay at Constans Hotel, which contributed to making our time in Prague so very special.
Stayed in the Constans for a couple of nights on a business trip to Prague. It is well situated, reasonably close to the castle and within easy walking distance of the Charles Bridge and all the tourist sights. My room was in the newer part of the hotel and lacked the character of rooms in the original building. It was quite well furnished, with heavy, Austro-Hungarian Empire style fittings and a large balcony overlooking an internal courtyard. It was very quiet, but rather warm. The bathroom was massive, with both a bath and a separate shower. There was also a bidet and a very large heated towel rail. The reception area was limited, consisting of a bar area; this was very dark and not particularly comfortable. Breakfast was poor to average. I can’t really recommend the Constans with much enthusiasm. It was inoffensive but lacked personality. It was perfectly fine for a business trip, but if you are in this beautiful city for a leisure break, look elsewhere.
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Constans in October for 3 nights, and really enjoyed our stay. We had a lovely, huge room with hardwood floors and a big bed (not two twins pushed together that you frequently see). The bathroom was modern and large. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we had during our 18-day trip through eastern Europe! They even packed a bag for me to take when we had to leave early for our flight, before breakfast was served. The hotel is located on the Mala Strana side, which we liked. It's a short walk up to the castle, and about a 15 minute walk over to the Old Town Square (but what a beautiful walk across the Charles Bridge!). The hotel is on a narrow, quiet cobblestone street in a safe area, near the Embassies. Make sure you have a map--it's a little hard to find. We found the rates to be a bit high on the hotel's website, but we got a great deal by booking through Expedia. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel and would definitely recommend it.
stayed for two days ,the staff was beyond good they, even gave us an unbrella when it was raining lightly.the breakfast was excellant plenty of food, the room was beautiful,so was the hotel.if you take a train to prague call them to arrange a taxi it will cost about five dollars instead of 30 dollars the crooks at the train station charge, call them when you arrive.been to europe many times this was one of the better hotels we stayed at
We stayed here for 3 nights during November and had a lovely stay. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist, and our room was fantastic - large, great decor and so quiet! The location was perfect, just a few minutes from the castle and bridge, which was ideal as neither of us had been to Prague before. It was also very easy to get to from the airport, just a couple of tram stops and the airport bus, which took about half an hour. Breakfast was good too. The only negatives were that there were a lack of veggie hot options for breakfast, a different person on reception was less friendly when we were checking out, and there was no internet access. However, we had a lovely trip and would happily stay there again.
I just spent five days in wonderful Prauge with my family (two children). I was very satisfied with the hotel at first, nice room and great breakfast/restaurant-staff. However, the staff is not overall friendly! I had one of the worst hotel-experiences ever in this hotel (and I travel a lot!) The morning of departure a very impolite and unprofessional man was working in the reception desk. I was charged a considerably higher amount than what was agreed on. When I opposed he got very rude, telling me “I got a very good price” (and hence shouldn’t oppose paying some 100 Euro more than what was agreed on..?). I was very disturbed by the discussion, since I had my children at the breakfast table only a few steps away, and we were just about to leave for the airport. I asked to discuss this issue with the manager in another forum (as in a letter of complaint) Mr reception-guy (I asked for his name but he wouldn’t tell me) then ran to get the manager, whom he said was in the property. This person didn’t show up though, only the message that I should pay “the rate I was charged for”. Super- not nice consequently, and of course I wouldn´t recommend this hotel to anyone. A comfortable well positioned hotel. Close to Castle and Charles Bridge (5-7 mins to both). Handily placed for restaurants around nearby square, Castle and river (Kampa Park and Hergetova Cihelna have river views) If visit U Mecanese make sure you are not ripped off by costly taster menu. Square approx 3 mins away has public transport to all key areas although walking to main tourist areas is easily dooable but you do face walk back up to hotel. Hotel has very large rooms, comfortable beds, huge bathrooms and friendly if unobtrusive staff. Good quality breakfast with plenty of choice (avoid 8 to 830 rush). Only gripe would be the soap dispenser & possibly lack of bathrobes. We were a party of 4 and used Prague Airport Shuttle - very efficient & took about 25 mins from airport. Would derfinitely use this hotel on next visit.
Two Norwegians couples in the late fifties had an exceptionally fine 4 night stay at this little gem (23 rooms). The hotel is situated right between the Hradcany Castle and the Charles bridge (10 minutes from each) with a comfortable twenty minutes walk to the Wenzels place (the main street) and the Paryzka, the City Hall and the famous astronomical clock. The reception and breakfast area was a bit cramped, but the rooms were very very clean, beautifully furnished and spacious. The staff was helpful and corteous. The breakfast was very good. The neighbourhood is abounds with cosy, local restaurants with excellent food and friendly service at reasonable prices. We got a fine deal through hotels.com (approx. USD 175 pr room pr night, which is a bargain hardly to be beaten).
We just stayed here for 2 nights. It was a great little hotel in a very good location. The bathroom in our room had been renovated. Our room did not have air-conditioning (I was told only 5 do); however, they were able to provide a fan. The breakfast was good as well. I would definately recommend it.
We stayed at the Constans over the August Bank Hol.It's in a great location ,easily accesible about 5 mins from Charles Bridge and the Castle. Good service with friendly staff - esp the lady at breakfast who managed to keep smiling even though she was rushed off her feet. The only drawbacks were - bedroom with two singles that couldn't be pushed together and the fact the storage room for the cleaning staff was close to our room ( pretty noisy early in the morning). Room allocation , which we unable to change may have been as we booked through last minute.com, we've had poor rooms when booking with them previously and would now strongly advise against doing this. On a positive note the room ( and rest of hotel) was clean and welcoming. The bathroom was lovely and spacious but two showers? Would have been better to have a big double shower instead as there's plenty of space- but that's personal preference.
The hotel: very nice hotel. The lobby is cosy and with a classic furniture. Location: the hotel is in a narrow street in the Lesser Part (Mala Strana) neighbour. Just a few minutes walk from Charles Bridge, Castle and Prague Baby Jesus’ Church. If you are coming by car, be very careful because the car will be accurately checked by police, as the hotel is around the American embassy. Rooms: I stayed twice in a month in this hotel. The first room (51) was very big, probably a suite, with two wardrobes, a sofa, coffee & tea facilities, huge bathroom with tub and shower, fantastic view of the Castle and Premonstraterian Monastry, air conditioned. The second time the room was on the same floor (52) but it was smaller, the bathroom had only shower, there was a sofa but it was very hard to sit on as the room was under the roof and the ceiling on the sofa was very low. The rest of the equipment was the same as the first one. All furniture is very beautiful (if you like classic style) and there is a wooden floor. If you go in the summer, ask for the rooms with air conditioning, Prague could be hotter than you expect! The bad: Breakfast. You could wait very long before you are served of your cappuccino….Decent choice of food like sausages, eggs, cheese, ham. But stay away from the pastries and cereals: they are simply stale. I am Italian, an advice to other Italians: when asking cappuccino, specify that you do not want cinnamon in it. This sounds very strange but it is true, they use cinnamon, and the final taste is quite strange for us. Staff: nice and helpful. Price: less expensive than average, same categories and same area. Final evaluation: my staying was pleasant, but for a 4 star hotel I would expect some more, especially regarding breakfast and the second room. Not sure I would stay there again..
As expected from tripadvisor write-ups, the size and decor of the room made it special - I suspect no two rooms are the same on each floor. In contrast the public areas were not that large, though that is not that important. The hotel was beatifully decorated and very clean. The bathroom was spaceous and all facilities worked well. As others have commented, the lack of air conditioning is a real drawback when the temperature is in the 30's: I don't care if that is unusual - it was galling to find temporary fans had been put in reception and the bar area for the staff, but not in the bedrooms. The hotel is in the embassy area of Prague, within easy walking (be equipped for cobbles) distance of the Castle, Charles Bridge and Wallenstein Gardens. The nearby square has a tram stop from which one can easily get further afield with a cheap ticket that can be used on the metro as well as the trams. Thorougly recommended for an up-market visit to the city.
We stayed at this hotel because of the positive reviews. However, we were turned off by the coldness of the staff and disappointed by the very average breakfast. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure was very good. However, the drainage to the tub and the sink were both horrible. I also found it odd for a hotel of this level to provide hand soap, bath gel, and shampoo thru "one-for all" liquid soap dispenser mounted on the wall.
We stayed at the Constans for three nights in early June, based largely on the reviews on this site, and we weren't disappointed. Very nice, intimate hotel with very pleasant hotel staff, a perfect room, and a great location. If we return to Prague, we will stay there again.
We stayed at the Constans Hotel recently and are shocked to read a bad review. The food is superb, the area is fantastic and central, and we were upgraded to a suite, which was absolutely glorious. Most of all, I have to say that the staff were very professional and service is perfect. You can't go wrong with the Constans, especially in terms of value for money.
My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay here, clean, great location, quaint hotel. The receptionist did raise an eyebrow when we said we wanted a double room (we're a same sex couple) but she quickly got over that. The breakfast is strange, I always love hotel breakfasts when away and look forward to it, but slices of ham, vegetarian chilli and pasta is frankly bizarre! We didn't eat in the restaurant or drink in the bar because there are so so many fantastic places to go in Prague you don't need to stay in the hotel. Try 'Cowboys' on Nuroveda (thinks that how you spell it). It's very close to the hotel and It might look a bit too amercanised and western from the outside but inside and on the roof terrace it is AMAZING! Very cool, great views and good food. Don't let this review put you off Hotel Constans but be aware it's not quite as grand and spectacular as these reviews suggest. Enjoy Prague, it's wonderful!
What a great place to stay. After reading the reviews my wife and I decided to book and were not disappointed. We stayed here for 2 nights in May for my birthday. It lived up to more than we expected. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were exceptionally spacious and in immaculate order. The location was superb as it's only 10 mins walk from main attractions but yet situated in a nice quiet side street for peace and quiet at night. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Prague in future.
I can only agree with the reviews for this hotel, it was one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in. It has a wonderful quaintness and old world charm, I would recommend it to anyone. The rooms are very spacious, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated, and the bathroom is huge! Staff are friendly and speak excellent english. It is within walking distance to all the major attractions (less than 5 mins from charles bridge) but in a quiet lane so noise is never an issue. If you are going to prague, stay at the constans, you wont regret it.
Stayed 4 nights over Easter, having found this lovely little hotel on Trip Advisor and recommended by Daily Mail Travel. We had a very spacious standard room, including two settees and queen-sized bed. Very clean and newly decorated, with a large bathroom. In a quiet location, but only minutes from all the action and easy walking to the tourist spots in Prague. It was an excellent choice and we also visited the sister Hotel Metamorphis near the Old Town Square for lunch. Another good spot to try another time. Prague was very busy, but delightful old world atmosphere with all the cobbled streets and the lack of traffic in the centre was a huge bonus. Highly recommended.
My husband and I stayed at the Constans Hotel earlier this month. We loved it! We had a huge, spotless room and bath, very polite and helpful service from the staff and large, fresh breakfasts. The location was convenient and safe. One taxi driver refused to come up the street in front of the US embassy to the hotel because of their 24-7 police guard...he must have had something to hide as most cars are briefly searched. He overcharged us as well. Ask for your taxis at the hotel's front desk and they will get trustworthy, reasonably priced drivers for you. I would be glad to stay here again.
We chose this hotel based on previous reviews - thank you! It completely met expectations. The room was very large, and extremely clean. The atmosphere and charm of the room, hotel, and cobblestone street it is on really added to the vacation. Service was great, breakfast good enough, and the location perfect - quiet, but close enough to the sites. Another benefit to the location is that it is cental - if you walk in one direction, you head towards the Charles bridge and the old town, and if you walk in the other direction, you head towards the Castle district. Prague is a beautiful, magical city, and this is the perfect place to stay when you visit! Note: the hotel only provides cream soap for both the sink and the shower, so if you don't like that, bring your own soap and shampoo. Note 2: the hotel does have parking - a huge benefit for those who are driving!
Wow what a lovely hotel. We had a huge room (no 31) it was spotless. the hotel spoke english very well and were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. it is in a lovely quiet street. Beprepared for police checks on cars due to the american embassy being close by (they even stopped 2 nuns in a car to check them!)Stay here easily the best value in prague
My wife and I stayed at the Constans Hotel from April 4-9. The hotel is walking distance from the Castle Quarter, the Charles Bridge, U.S. Embassy, and Old Town. Great restaurants to pick from nearby, fantastic complimentary breakfasts, we stayed in a suite and it was beautiful...lofted ceiling, skylights, large bathroom, and lots of closet space which is essential when traveling with the wife :). Staff was very attentive and friendly. We booked tours and hired a car to take us to the airport on our last day there. If you stay here you will definitely not be disappointed. This place gets a 6 star rating but can only choose the 5 that is available. Juan Chicago, IL
The location of the hotel was great. It was near everything, including steps from a nice spa and the US Embassy. The rooms were huge, much larger than other smaller hotels we've stayed at. Note on the beds, the mattresses are hard. The staff was very helpful and spoke English and Spanish. Breakfast was quite varied and was included in the price. We were a total of 7 people occupying 3 rooms. It was very comfortable!
After reading earlier reviews about this hotel, we decided to book three nights stay. Good decision! It is situated about 5 minutes walk from both the castle and Charles Bridge. Our room (47) was lovely and spacious and spotlessly clean. We could have had a party in the bathroom, it was so big! The hotel itself is up a small cobbled sidestreet and we were at the back and so didn't get any noise at night. Breakfast was the usual continental spread, eaten in the conservatory at the back of the dining room. If I really had to pick fault, I would say that it would have been nice to have had more than 2 teabags and milk cartons on our teatray in the room, but that's just being picky! Stay there, you'll like it.
My wife and I stayed at the Constans for a week. It was a WONDERFUL place. The staff were exceptionally helpful, the food they served was excellent. The location is quite, but within walking distance of everything one would want to see. "We'll be back!"
My family and I stayed here for my mother's 70th birthday and as soon as the hotel reception became aware of this they sent up complimentary champagne. This is a typical example of their attitude - absolutely nothing is too much trouble; the staff are fantastic. They arranged taxis for us to and from the airport and helped us out when we thought we were snowed in on the last day and would miss our flight home (sadly, we didn't). The rooms are beautiful and HUGE, the beds are very comfortable, the hotel is well laid out with a lift to all floors, spotlessly clean, good housekeeping, the hotel restaurant is well above average and we enjoyed each of breakfast, lunch and dinner on various days. Situated near to Prague Castle, the hotel's location is perfect for exploring the city. I really cannot recommend this hotel enough and we will definitely go back. It is one of the best I have ever stayed in (and I have travelled quite a lot).
We stayed at this hotel in Feb 2006 based on the excellent reviews on this site. We were spending 2 days there before our wedding in Prague and had organised a group to stay. We found it delightful - the location is fabulous, really quiet and 5 mins by tram into the centre of Prague or a 15 min picturesque walk. The room we got was enormous -it was one of the attic rooms and was really lovely. Breakfast was great - a huge choice and as much as you wanted. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay. We had dinner there the night we arrived, which was very pleasantly served and the food was average, but good value. The hotel also organised transport from the ariport for us and members of our group who were arriving at various times -this was reasonable and went very smoothly. There were a couple of small complaints from members of our group - one couple were put into a very small room and the bathroom had no bath in it - overall quite disappointing. There were moved when asked, but given the business we were giving them I would have expected our group to have had good rooms. One person asked for an iron & board and was told she had to come downstairs to collect it as the receptionist was pregnant and could not bring it to her! This was actually more funny than anything else, but worth a mention. Overall, we were very happy with the hotel - it is a small, picturesque place that we feel is suited to people looking for a quiet place to stay and its location is really great. Finally ,we got very good rates and we were extremely happy with that!
We were so glad we picked this hotel. It was perfect for a quiet break up a little cobbled street only a short walk down to Charles Bridge. The room was immaculate and tasteful with an ENORMOUS bathroom and a balcony overlooking an interior courtyard.Breakfast was superb, staff friendly and location perfect. we paid about 120 euros a night with Expedia. For a relaxed drink go down to Jo's bar about 5 minutes away. For a great cocktail experience and fabulous food go to La Bodeguita Del Medio in the Old Town(go for a lunchtime drink and book a table for the evening while you're there!)
This was my second visit - the first was last month. I did not hesitate to book the same hotel and I was not disappointed. This is a great little hotel, fab bedrooms and bathrooms and a perfect location. The only negative point from last time was that the receptionist (who was training last visit) was a little 'stressed' at times - but still she was great. My mum was extremely impressed and that's all that matters!
My husband and I spent one week at the Hotel Constans in late November. Our daughter, studying in Prague, asked to spend a few nights with us, so we booked a 2-room suite. Our room had a balcony overlooking beautiful red-roof tiled buildings, the Loreto Shrine, and the Petrin (tower, hill?), part of the Hradcany Castle. The bathroom was large, and conveniently comes with a heated towel rack, convenient for drying all our hand-washed clothing. Our two rooms were plenty big as well, although we spent very little time at the hotel. The breakfast selections were terrific: eggs every day-either create-your-own omelette, scrambled, etc, or a chafing dish of fried eggs, for example. The standard choices were fresh fruit, juices, cereals, granolas, yogurts, croissants, pastries, breads, and cold cuts, cheeses, pickles and salads. After we slept 13 hours our first night, right though breakfast, the front desk asked if we'd like them to send the breakfast up to our room! Again, on our last morning, since we had our taxi take us to the airport before breakfast officially was served, they asked if they could pack us up with items to take with us! One warning: the coffee is abysmal. I believe they brew up vats of instant. The hotel location, in Mala Strana, was perfect. The area itself is made up of little, winding streets-excellent for exploring. We are walkers, and from the hotel location, we found we could literally walk anywhere-from Hradcany to Old Town to Josefov to New Town and everywhere else along the perimeter of the city in the "hills" for spectacular views. I highly recommend Hotel Constans for a super little hotel at a reasonable rate right in the middle of the most beautiful city I've ever seen. And, there are plenty of excellent coffee shops near and far to compensate for the hotel's brew.
Stayed at this recently renovated hotel in mid October 2005. The room was very large and well furnished, the bathroom was the largest I have seen outside US resort class hotels. The Constans is a European hotel, i.e. there is a very good cold breakfast buffet each day, but the lobby area is very understated. Staff were helpful and spoke good English. Note to female travelers- forget high or even mid heels. Prague is a walking city, and almost totally cobblestone. Heels tend to get caught between the stones.
We had a wonderful stay at this small hotel, situated in a very quiet area of Prague, (close to American Embassy...lots of police checks). It is close to Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. Very, very central and no car needed. The two rooms we had were both top-notch...large, clean and just renovated. Breakfast was great with lots of choice...fruit, salads, breads, cheeses, cold cuts and eggs. We did not dine in restaurant. The staff were extremely helpful and even packed us a take-away breakfast when we left at 6:30 am. We also negotiated a very good rate as we asked to stay another night. Half of the posted rate.
After going through a tiny entrance and a tiny reception, we were astounded to walk into a huge room and a huge bathroom. Everything was spotless clean, and I loved the modern bathroom. Just a few minutes walk from St Nicholas Church and many good pubs and restaurants on Nerudova Street, the hotel itself is on a quite street.
We stayed in this hotel for two nights and October and I would definitely come back again. It is located fairly near the castle and is a short walk - probably less than 10 minutes - to the Charles Bridge. You do need to walk up a fairly steep hill to get to the hotel. Everyone that worked at the hotel was friendly. The room was very nicely decorated and spacious. I thought the breakfast was fine. I recommend eating dinner at U Mecenase (location: Malostranske Nam 10). It is a three minute walk from the hotel and had great food. The restuarant has a great setting as it is situated in a wine cellar built in the 1500s.
We stayed at the Constanz in September. It is situated in the Lesser Town, which in my opinion is the best location. It is small, homely and unobtrusive.(We hardly saw another tourist during our stay.) The rooms are spacious and spotlessley cleaned every day. The mini bar is a little more expensive than the norm but it allows you to chill your own "bought in" beverages. The breakfast is slightly dissapointing... The first day we were given a menu of egg based dishes to choose from. After that it was, i think, whatever the previous evening's menu was. For instance, cauliflower and scrambled egg!! I must admit i did eat it as I was hungover!!! Prague itself is a wonderful place, but if your going for a romantic break, steer clear of the weekend. Finally, go to the SQUARE!!! An absolute must!! We dined there 3 out of 4 nights. Do not go to the restaurant with the plastic bull outside. We were enticed in by the menu.. a very strange place. Felt that I might end up in a bratwurst!! Strange waiter with a strange aroma... say no more!
The Constans was all we expected from the reviews; almost. Friendly, welcoming staff: lovely rooms: quiet, atmospheric location (if you can cope with the uphill walk on cobbled streets): good choice of eating places close by (easily missed, so check out location of Nerudova round the corner and up the steps). Shame about the breakfast. Has it changed or is it only the Brits who expect a decent hot buffet at these prices? Even for a Continental breakfast, the choice was poor. Strangely, our experience of the restaurant was also contrary to others. Thanks to a deluge, we ate in on the last night and had a lovely meal with good service at a reasonable price. Tip from us - if you want a good boat trip without the food packages, go down to the jetty you can see to the right as you first go onto the Charles Bridge. First boat goes at 10.30. Tip from our taxi driver (Prague-airport-shuttle) - Tram route 22 is the pickpockets' favourite and Helichova (at the bottom of the street) is their favourite stop, so keep your hands in your pockets.
We spent the last 5 days in this fantastic hotel. Every one of its 4 stars are deserved for accommodation. Everything is relatively new and our room 51 at the top had lovely beam work in a very spacious and comfortable surroundings. Breakfast was at best poor. Buffet style with one cooked to order meal. Not great but don't let this put you off. A few staggers away down the cobbles you'll find the The Square eatery. Its part of the [-] who have a chain of top nosheries. Order the beef fillet and thank me later. Lastly, the main reason for our visit was my other halves birthday. This event wasn't announced to the hotel but the maid must've noticed her cards while cleaning - we found a a note, bottle of bubbly and 2 glasses when we returned to the room - that for me was enough alone to return one day soon.
The Constans has a great location - midway between the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle in a very nicely "modernized" set of buildings. The room I had was very large, nicely decorated and with a hugh bath. It also happened to be a corner room so it was bright and had rooftop views. The staff is a great asset to the hotel. I had not reserved a parking spot in the garage and the receptionist (Lenka) went to great efforts to find me a spot in another nearby hotel. Breakfast presented a variety of choices served in a very nice "upscale" restaurant room and glassed center patio. I had stayed at another Hotel in Prague a year ago and I was very pleased; but the Constans is a great little small hotel. Thank you
My wife and I have just returned from a five day stay in the Constans Hotel , Prague (August 2005). This hotel is ideally situated in a quiet back street half way between the Charles Bridge and the Castle. We found the staff courteous, helpful and always available to answer questions . The hotel room was large, clean and equipped with good quality furniture and fittings with an excellent en-suite bathroom attached. Breakfasts were good to very good. Our only slight niggle was that the coffee could have been better. It is possible to walk to all the notable sites on both sides of the river from this location thus avoiding the use of Taxis. Do be warned that all the streets and pavements are cobbled - not the place for high heels! We did not dine in the hotel so cannot comment. We would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it to others.
Stayed here with friends on a stag weekend. Rooms were adjoining to each other. Rooms were very nice with both a shower & a bath. TV was ok, hardly watched anyway. Staffs were very friendly, even helped with some activities around Prague. Came in very late every night to a welcoming smile, even allowed us to sleep late. Room was cleaned everyday while out shopping. Plenty of bars & restaurants are within walking distant of the Hotel. Most places are all within walking distant take trainers or soft soled shoes as most roads are all cobbled (they look nice in pictures but can be hard on the feet). In and around the tourist areas most people spoke English, public transport was fine, maps are easy to follow. Will definitely come back to the same Hotel in Prague next time, but with the new wife.
This is a wonderful hotel. Staff were consistently friendly and very helpful, no request was too difficult. Room was lovely, we had a room with a balcony and it was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Bathroom was huge! Easy walking distance to everything but in an area that is quiet at night. We will definately stay here again.
If you don't know Prague-this area is on a bit of a slope, but worth it. If you need completely flat, stay by or on other side of the river. Wheelchair access in hotel would be tricky, at lowest. Hotel is just as good as other reviewers say. For views of red roofs and evening sun try and stretch budget to a room with balcony. Constans is only 2 minutes from main pedestrian street (Nerudova) to Castle passing Edward Kelley (go and find out why..) courtyard for cheap and cheerful local food and drink in this rather upmarket area . The 22 tram and metro are 5-10 minutes walk through gorgeous streets. Get a tourist ticket for tram and metro from metro station. Very useful when the feet get tired, and they will. Try to dress up just a little in the evenings, and to acquire 2 or 3 Czech phrases. Seemed to work for us! Restaurant "U tri houslicek" (3 violins) is an intimate, friendly and non-touristy place on Nerudova for delicious dinner. Did not eat at Constans. There are peaceful baroque gardens tucked away behind houses on Valdstejnska or on corner of Karmelitska/Trziste Streets. Down Trziste and through archway where police search cars (see previous!) is quickest way to Square. Written by couple in 50's, slight walking disability, always grateful for quiet corners while on tourist trail.
Thanks so much to trip advisor as the reviews were spot on! This is a great hotel in a great location. We had a superb 4 days there and look forward to going back.
We stayed at Hotel Constans during our honeymoon in mid-March. Marvellous! Hotel was top-class and it was very well situated. Just a few blocks away from Nerudova street (try the Restaurant U'certa on Nerudova...). And a few minutes walk to nearest tram-stop next to Lesser Town Square. Very much recommended! (Only the towels could have been bigger as someone else said in earlier review.)
We were first time vistitors to Prague staying three nights. We booked the hotel through Expidia. Were surprised to be stopped and searched whilst in the taxi - but our driver explained we were passing the US Embassy and they stopped all vehicles. The hotel is one minute from the Embassy in a fantastic location - quiet, quaint and quality. The staff at the hotel are excellent, friendly accomodating and knowledgable. Couldn't have expected better. Our room was spotlessly clean and more of an appartment than room. The whole place looked band new. Immaculate bathroom. Breakfast had plenty of choice and all on offer was top quality. Had one evening meal at hotel during the stay which was the best meal we had in Prague. Located in such a quiet area but five minutes from Charles Bridge and over to the busy city meant that having enjoyed all Prague had available you could sleep in peace. Would visit again at any time.
A lovely hotel, one of the best I've stayed in. The quality of the rooms is excellent I was sad to leave. It is ideal for couples on a romantic break not for families in my opinion. There are plenty of stairs so ask for an accessible room if you aren't fit etc. Few facilities, it really is just a base for Prague which is a short walk to Charles Bridge.
If this hotel has a popularity index of 56 in Prague, it must be the best kept secret in the country. Everything about it was superb, with a single exception. Breakfast was excellent, but there are better restaurants for dinner. As far as accomodations and service were concerned, it ranks with or better than some of the most famous and expensive in the world.
This hotel is lovely and quiet. It is close enough to walk to all places of interest to tourists, but is off the beaten path - and provides a welcome respite from the crowds. Breakfast was excellent, and the rooms large. The bathroom was the biggest I have seen in Europe. Staff was friendly and helpful, restaurant recommendations were excellent. I would happily return to this beautiful little hotel.
A beautiful city - a truly wonderful hotel! Located "up the alley" from the US Embassy, this little gem of a hotel and the wonderful staff made our first visit to Prague very memorable. The location on the western side of the river in a perfectly quiet neighborhood is a short stroll to the entire city. Minutes to little restaurants, concerts in the churches and a short walk to the castle, make this hotel perfect for a relaxing visit. Try to stay for a week - it feels like home. Large comfortable rooms, a very complete breakfast and a romantic lounge for a late night cocktail is more than complimented by the friendly, knowledgable staff. We can't wait to return!
Big quiet clean comfortable rooms. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. About a 7-10 minute downhill walk to the Charles bridge and all the tourist mayhem. Some good un-touristy restaurants nearby.
This hotel looked great on the net, but still took our breath away when we walked into a massive room and bathroom to match! Everything was very clean and modern. The hotel was very close to everything, 7 mins downhill to Charles Bridge. The staff were always very helpful and the breakfast was superb, with a different variety of eggs and a hot dish every day (we were there for 4 days). Our trip was made perfect by snowfall on our last day. I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend this hotel to anyone.
Unbeknownst to me, our trip to Prague was to be our engagement trip. My fiance booked one of the beautiful apartments with a balcony with a gorgeous view. The hotel presented us with a bottle of champagne upon our arrival and catered to our every need during our stay. Hotel Constans contributed the most romance to the marriage proposal and helped make this trip one of the most magical ever. We will be back, and we will stay in this same hotel.
We chose this hotel after reading other reviews on Tripadvisor. The room was very comfortable and immaculately clean - just what you need after a day pounding the cobbles in Prague. It is far away enough from the hustle and bustle but close enough to the centre. Good choice at breakfast. Staff very friendly and their advice on local restaurants was excellent. The only thing we would like to see improved was the size of the towels in the bathroom! Would definitely stay here again.
Having seen the reviews of this hotel on several different sites, it really is quite clear why no-one badmouths it. The reason? This hotel is top class, no doubt about it. The beds are huge, the staff go out of their way to help you and the rooms are simply immaculate. Bathroom spotless, maid service in room every day (when you've eventually got up!!). It really is a shame to leave this hotel, it feels like home almost straight away. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel or reccommend it to any friends or family. An absolute gem, it was a privelage to stay in such a quality hotel.
