Took my Mum to Prague for a long weekend and decided on the Cloister Inn after seeing the reviews here and the location. A very comfortable hotel only a short walk from the old town square and the Charles Bridge. We even walked to the Opera House past Wenceslas Square which took about 25 minutes. The hotel is very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. In fact it is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in! The breakfast is abundant although with quite basic ingredients and sometimes long queues. Saying that, the apple strudel was delicious! Free tea, coffee and internet is available all day in the spacious reception lounge and the staff are helpful and efficient. Very quiet location with plenty of restaurants nearby.
I booked this trip through Alpharooms online. The trip was for my hen party on which, originally, 8 people were going. The booking went through fine and I was pleased to be able to amend my booking online through Alpharooms when another friend decided to join the party. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by the pleasant staff at the reception desk. We then had a hilarious few minutes trying to find our rooms. The rooms were quite far away and not all together- mine was, for example, along the corridor, up 2 flights of stairs, round the corner, along another corridor, around another corner, down some more stairs and along another corridor! My other friends had a hilarious journey with their suitcases up to the 5th floor! It was fine though when we knew where we were going. The hotel is clean and everyone there is extremely pleasant. The hotel is quiet and situated in the most fantastic location. Approx 80m away is Bethlehem Square which leads round to the Old Town. You are there in less than 5 minutes walk. Breakfast at the hotel is lovely. Plenty of fresh bread, sweet pastries, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, coffee, tea and fruit juice. Also there were sausages and eggs on alternate mornings. In the foyer there is free internet access for those who cannot resist a quick go on facebook and free tea and coffee if you fancy a drink waiting for your friends to arrive! We had a lovely stay at the hotel and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were, although not overtly friendly in the sense of smiling all the time, extremely helpful and able to speak perfect English (which helped as we found Czech a struggle!) I would definitley go back there - happy memories!
We visited Cloister Inn, situated in the heart of the city centre, from 3 – 6 June 2008. The hotel offers 75 double / twin rooms. Recently refurbished hotel lobby welcomes you with free coffee/tea and free internet access (although you often have to take your place in queue). The hotel is situated in an old monastry but completely renovated and the rooms have all the facilities of a modern hotel, except that the hotel is unappropriate for physically handicapped people due to the several (short) stairs you have to take before reaching your room. Moreover it is a very safe hotel, you cannot go in without the use of an electronic key. We booked 2 twin rooms (208 and 206), which are rather spacious and spotlessly clean as is the bathroom. The bathroom is rather small, but has a very good shower. There is only liquid soap. The rooms have double windows which make them sufficiently sound-proofed. The beds are very comfy; perhaps for some people a little bit narrow. Besides the TV there is a working table and a very good working fridge. The four drinks the latter contains are on the house! There is strikingly much light in the room. The only Real problem is the noise of the airconditioning. Even earplugs do not reduce it sufficiently. Hot/cold breakfast buffet is really good and abundant. Staff is very kind and profes-sional. We booked through the Dutch branche of Ebookers and paid 104.00 euro per night per room. The hotel is absolutely very recommendable.
Considering we paid $270 per night for this hotel, you would expect a few amenities, like more than one TV channel, a bar of soap, even an extra towel. The hotel is spartan, even more so than Stockholm or Copenhagen hotels. The location is okay if all your'e planning to do is stay a few days and see the Charles Bridge, but it's a hike to the public transportation. It is totally charmless but I am not sure your'e going to find much else in in Prague. It's kind of a gloomy city. We were off to Greece and happy to be going at the end of the week. I would spend a max of two night in Prague. I can't imagine bringing kids as they would be bored. Anyway, the front desk finally warmed up a bit on the 5th day but the breakfast menu never ever changes. I've never travelled to a former Communist country so to be fair I would recommend the Communist musem up the street from the hotel. It totally explains why the city is high on charm. On a positive side, they offered free internet an a bottle of mineral water.
Very central and convenient location, a few minutes to Charles bridge and the centre of the old town district. Staff were very friendly and the room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was fine with a good selection of fruit, meat . cheese cereal ,bread etc. A little difficult to find on the street initially and the outside is not imposing, but inside has all the conveniences you'd want. Free internet and coffee ! Would definitely stay here again. Derek&Helen Ireland
I could certainly recommend the Cloister Inn, it is very good value for money. The hotel is in an excellent location in the old town and near the Charles Bridge for sightseeing across the river. The hotel has recently been renovated and has a simple but modern feel throughout, although the building itself is old. It was spotlessly clean everywhere. The bedrooms have all the facilities of a modern hotel. I had a single room, and although it had a double bed, it was quite small. The bathroom was large (compared to many I have experienced ) and although there was no bath the shower was very good with plenty of power and hot water. The buffet breakfast was fine with a good selection of food. The staff at reception were very efficient and polite and I was also very impressed by the security in the hotel. I will certainly return the next time I visit Prague.
We stayed in The Cloister Inn for four nights in early April while attending a wedding in Prague. We wanted somewhere affordable and quiet (we've been to Prague a number of times and usually stay in Vinohrady) but within easy reach of the Old Town Square where the wedding festivities were taking place. The Cloister Inn is located on Konviktska, a quiet cobbled street just minutes walk from the Old Town Square, the Charles Bridge and the metro and tram links at Narodni trida. At first glance, the exterior of the hotel doesn't look too promising. Its austere and institutional appearance betrays its past life uses (it had been both a convent and a secret police station!). A profusion of jolly and colourful window boxes did their best to cheer up the facade but only seemed to highlight its cheerlessness. Inside, however, it was completely different story..... The main lobby/reception area was bright and inviting, and decorated in yellow and dark red, a colour scheme which was carried on throughout the hotel. There were a number of comfortable couches, limitless free tea and coffee, a variety of newspapers and free internet access, along with two tiny sittingrooms in which to relax with coffee and the news. The reception staff were welcoming and efficient and we were checked in very quickly. Our room was on the small side but was very comfortable and cosy. The red and yellow colour scheme was complemented by solid wood beech furniture and the decorative condition of the room was very good (it looked as if it might have been recently refurbished). The relatively small bathroom was in fact a gleaming, reasonably sized shower room with a great power shower. Both room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Some serious noise reduction glazing and other technology had been employed to ensure that little or no sound travelled up from the street, nor between rooms. The hotel was pretty full when we visited, but we never heard any noise and drifted easily off to silent, cosy sleep each night. Breakfast was a relaxed affair, served in the high-ceilinged, refectory style dining room on one of the upper floors. There was a wide selection of hot and cold buffet breakfast offerings and food was replenished regularly. Breakfast was served up to 10.30am and most mornings we arrived after 10am to find plenty of everything. The housekeeping staff were, like all of their colleagues, very efficient, unobtrusive and helpful. On our final day, as our flight was not until late evening we stored our bags securely at the hotel until just prior to our departure for the airport. Security in the hotel was in general very good but done with a light and effective touch. We booked The Cloister Inn with Lastminute.ie and paid a total of €410 for four nights, including breakfast. We will definitely be making it our base for our next visit to Prague.
We stayed here on our honeymoon. The hotel treated us with a bottle of champagne and some chocolates. The location was good and safe. The staff were very helpful as well.
I stayed here with my Boyfriend in August 07. Ignore the outside of thje hotel as it does look quite off outting, however the inside looks much better. The hotel is kept very secure. You cannot enter the hotel without a key, which is collected from reception, and is to be returned back to reception each time you leave the hotel. The location is by far the best aspect of the hotel. It is set directly in the middle of both the new and old town, making it very easy to get around as you are never far from anywhere. Make sure t=you take your walking shoes though, my feet were agony by the end of the trip. Breakfast wasnt much to write home about howver, don't forget it is a european city break, so you can't expect much. Cold meat, cheese, yoghurts, toast etc. It's something to keep you going for a couple of hours. Staff were ok, not to outgoing but polite none the less.
We stayed Mar 7-16th 2008. We were on the 5th floor in the old building. All in all , it was great the only thing that was kind of annoying was that it was like a maze to get to your room. The location was excellent. I agree with a few posts about the breakfast, same thing every day, so a little boring and coffee service would have been nice in the room. Yes, it does need an update, but it was clean and staff were very nice. There were lots of restaurants, and we had some fabulous dinners. As for not having a bar, we went to Tesco and bought liquor/wine there and enjoyed a beverage while getting ready for the evening. However, there is free internet access, which was nice as when we travel we like to keep in contact with our daughter and caregivers of our pets.
Our 'welcome' at the hotel was to be shown to a shabby, dull TWIN room...having booked a double AND e mailed the day before requesting a nice room as this was a special holiday for us. The room was disgusting as well as being a twin. On refusing this room we were shown to 2 DIRTY double rooms. My request for our booking to be honoured. ie a DOUBLE room was met with a curt and rude reply that they were not obliged to honour a request. We were booked into a near by hotel for that night which we had to pay for, and returned the next day to sort the problem. The staff were uninterested, the rooms were BASIC. If you like to sit in the corridor for your breakfast then this is the place for you....suffice to say we will NEVER go to this hotel again. Strongly recommend the Hotel Leonard around the corner...classy, clean and a similar price!! Prague however made up for all our disappointments, what a truely beautiful city for romantic souls like us!!
Stayed at the Cloister Inn for one night in September. Lovely hotel in great surroundings - its on a quiet street but about 5 mins walk from the main attractions. There's a few bars on your doorstep as well here.
I will keep this short and sweet... If you want a hotel with a great central prague location that is good value for money stay here. The rooms are clean and spacious The staff are great and friendly Location brilliant Good security Good breakfast The only thing I would say could improve it would be tea and cofee facilities in the room Having said that there is free tea and coffee in reception. I will use if availiable any time I am back in prague
Recently returned from the Prague (this was our third trip but first to this hotel) The hotel was a little out of the way but this was good as it was very quiet so no disturbance to your sleep - mind you we walked so much we didnt take much rocking. The hotel breakfast was a bit boring, and it may have been a better idea if they had an alternative menu that you could pay extra for (e.g bacon, eggs, omelettes etc. ) but it did the trick ..... Shame that the hotel had no bar as such but it was very near to lots of little restaurants and bars who in the main were very reasonable in price. The hotel is situated in a brilliant part of the City regarding sightseeing ...... the only thing we did notice was the reception staff didnt smile very much - but maybe it was because it was Easter holiday and they would have preferred to have been with their families ??
The Cloister Inn is superb. It's centrally located, between the Old and New Town, so nothing is too far away. The hotel is clean, tidy and the staff are very friendly. I stayed in a twin room on the 5th floor and it was lovely. The rooms are warm and the beds comfortable. Although there are no coffee/tea making facilities in the room the main reception area has these amenities available for guests to use. There is also a PC with internet access, which is very useful, but trying to get on it can be difficult as it's popular. With regards to it's location, the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge are all about 10 minutes walk away. There is also a Tesco supermarket about 5 minutes away from the hotel. Also, check out Cafe Louvre on Narodni for afternoon tea or the Municipal House (near Powder Gate) for a more atmospheric (Art-Nouveau) meal - Warning! Expensive, but worth it.
Went to Prague to celibrat my fathers 75th birthday so it felt good to choise a good hotel and the hotel Cloister Inn was perfect. Me and my falmily loved it. The location couldn´t have been better. 5 miuntes walk to Charles Bridge, 7 minutes to the squiere and 10 minutes to Václavplayce. All bay foot. A lot of nice shops and restaurants in the neigborhough and a very calm street. The staff at the reception were very nice, friendly and helpful. We got very nice rooms. One room was actually too room s with one room with one bed, two chairs, a desk, mini bar TV. The other room had a doubble bed. The other room was very big with a double bed, one single bed, a sofa, two charis, a whriting board, three big fancen and a mini bar. Both rooms had really fresh bathrom, no batchtubes but great shower cabins. We got new towels and bed linnens every day and the rooms was very clean. The minibar was good and not owerpriced which is very comon at most hotels. Also very nice coplimentry the and coffee in the hotel lobby. The breakfast was also very good. We all agreed that this was a wery good breakfast for beeing a 3-star hotel. We all enjoyed staying at the Cloister Inn, the rooms, the very friendly staff and the lockation made us feel that when we return to Prague we would most sertain stay at the Cloinster Inn again. Mats, Stockholm
We stayed at the hotel for a week and we were absolutely satisfied with the room and the work of recipients. We chose the hotel by this site and by other reviews and it was definetly good choice. The location of the hotel is also very good, in the centre of the old town and it was comfortable to walk and sightseeing. The breakfast was nothing special (very "English"), but it was OK. And if we some day come to Prague again, we surely will stay in Cloister Inn.
I stayed at the Cloister Inn for 5 nights at the end of Feb 08. I'd read it was basic, but I found that the room was quite large, clean and had all you would expect from a hotel this size in a major European city. I would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and a couple of english language TV channels other than CNN would have been nice, but these are minor quibbles. then hotel is 5 minutes walk from the Charles bridge, the old town square, and the tram stops by the National Theatre - all very convenient. Although in a quite street, it felt safe. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and spoke good english. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Stayed at the Cloister Inn for 3 nights over new year and was extremely impressed. We had 3 rooms booked and all were well equipped, spacious and comfortable. Hotel was situated in a convenient location for all the major sights, and just a couple of minutes walk from Charles Bridge and Old Town Square. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free internet access and te/coffee is provided in the lobby. I didn't have the breakfast myself during our stay so i cannot comment on it, but my friends seemed happy.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I was going to Prague with some friends who had booked this hotel, and they had said that it was "ok", and as it was relatively cheap, I set my expectations relatively low. However. the hotel was both well located and well equipped, and my room prooved to be spacious and comfortable, although the furniture was a little sparse. The location of the hotel means that it is very easy to walk to most of the major tourist haunts in Prague, but manages to be just a little off the main streets to remain quiet. There is a PC with an internet connection in the lobby that provides free web access for guests, and there are also books available to borrow in the hotel. The key improvement that I'd like to see would be a better breakfast. There was a buffet of mainly cold meats and chese, with some hot boiled sausages, which was certainly adequate, however, there was scope for improvement. This hotel is a good value, well located hotel.
This was our 9th stay at the Cloister Inn. Our last stay was in September 2006 (see review 29 October 2006) when we were a little disappointed. As we booked this latest three night package with E-Bookers, we were not able to avail ourselves of the promised free night. However, I negociated free transfers to and from the airport instead. Our flight arrived an hour late, so we tipped the driver the extra 100CZK plus normal tip and he seemed very pleased and surprised. We still think that the Cloister Inn is the perfect hotel for us. Its position is second to none - close to Charles Bridge, the National theatre and the Estates Theatre for fantastic opera performances (just book your tickets when you arrive) as well as Tesco, the trams and the metro (Narodni Trida) and not too far from the State Opera. This time we didn't bother to buy transport tickets, but generally we do, in order to visit Vysehrad, the castle and other places further afield. Several couples have stayed at the Cloister Inn on our recommendation and they have all been very pleased with it. The tea and coffee in the lobby (withdrawn for a while in 2006) has now been reinstated, the free internet in the lobby is ideal for the odd email and checking in online and one can have a drink (alcoholic) in the lobby - not that we ever do, nor did we see anyone else doing so. Our only gripe was that we requested a N/S room, the one we were given seemed ok even though it was not a N/S one, but by the morning we both had rough throats and we asked to change. Unlike our experience in Sep 2006, our request was readily granted. If you want a really posh hotel with a doorman, then the Cloister Inn is not for you, but if you want a reliable, quiet hotel with pleasant rooms, good ensuites and a reasonable breakfast, then this is the ideal hotel - particularly in January when Prague is less crowded and you might be fortunate enough (we never have been!) to have snow. We tried the restaurant Konvikt - far too smoky AND they add 20% to the bill, which we paid, but we shall not return. We also ate at Swejk on Siroka (off Pariska off old Town Square) which is better and they add only 10% to the bill. The same thing happens at Starometska restaurace on Old Town Square and even more is added if you eat outside. If you want a cake and coffee in splendid surroundings, then try the Obecni Dum (Municipal House next to the Powder Tower). The Cloister Inn is ideally situated and is also very comfortable and reasonably priced.
This is a very nice basic hotel. Staff were very helpful in arranging tours for us. Breakfast was substantial. It is very centrally located and we managed on foot all over the area. Getting lost is half the fun, but we always found our way back. Hotel arranged pick up and return to the airport for us.
Stayed at the Cloister for a long weekend late October. Hotel excellent for a good value base in the Old Town. All the main sites within 10 mins walk yet in a quiet area that felt safe when returning in the evening. Rooms simple but clean and with all the facilities you need. Bit of a hike if you're in the old part of the hotel but rooms very quiet with comfortable beds.Breakfast we found very good by continental city standards. (Pay 5-star prices if you want the full works!). Staff very friendly and helpful and arranged taxi to and from airport which saved a lot of hassle and not too expensive. They checked flight times and air terminal for us too. Coffee and tea in reception was very welcome although not always available late evening. Lots of eating places close by including Stoleti which hotel reccommends - and not all dumplings. Prague itself is a beautiful city and the Cloister is a good central base for exploring.
Stayed in Prague for 4 nights at the Cloister Inn during the Christmas markets. Markets were a little repetative and on the whole found them a just a little disappointing. Prague itself was beautiful. The most picturesque city I've ever been to and I would definately go again. I would probably stay at the Cloister Inn again too. The hotel was very conveniately located only a 4 minute walk from Old Town Square and a 6 minute walk from Charles Bridge, The hotel was very clean, tidy and well decorated and the free internet access in the reception was a great touch. Our room was adequate if a little on the small side. The bathroom looked quite new and the shower was great-really powerful. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room as it was so cold outside. There were such facilities in reception but there were only small expresso cups (even for the tea) and no regular tea only herbal varieties. Breakfast was good and the standard of service excellent. Overall I would recommend this hotel but suggest you take a travel kettle if staying in the winter months!
Basically repeating what the reviewer below said. Clean rooms, good value, good location. Around 5 minutes walk from closest subway station. Around 10 minutes walk from most tourist spots. It is tucked in a smallish sidestreet, so it's very quiet at night, but as far as I felt, it is very safe.
Had a four night stay in mid-September. Hotel very well located, about 5 minutes from the Old town square and about hte same from the St-Charles bridge which brings you to the newest part of the city. The size of the room was OK with a clean renovated bathroom . It was located in the non-smoking part of the hotel as requested. It's true that smoking is not allowed in common areas like the reception which is a rarity in Prague. The reception desk provided us with useful informations, bus tickets and the reservation of a taxi in the middle of the night to bring us back to the airport for a 6 o'clock flight. There's a computer for the internet (free but you have to use it thinking of the other customers). There is also a small room to watch TV while sipping your free tea or coffee. Here's a couple of restaurants that you will find nearby the hotel (between 2 and 5 minutes): Stoletti, Konvikt and Klub Architectu. Compared to the prices asked for the hotels in Prague, especially when they are centrally located, the Cloister Inn is a good value for money.
Stayed at the Cloister Inn for a few days after Christmas and found it to be a basic, good quality, clean, comfortable and efficient hotel in a very convenient location for the sights of Prague. The cost of the room was very agreeable and turned out to be large and spacious and the staff were very pleasant throughout. If I had any criticism of the hotel it would only be to say that the choice at the brealfast buffet was a little limited. Would definitely recommend.
My wife and I spent 3 nights at this hotel. Conveniently located near the Charles Bridge, we were able to walk to all attractions in the city. Our room was comfortable (large for a European hotel), clean and (though facing the street) quiet. The staff were fluent in English and attentive to our needs. There are quite a few restaurants within easy walking distance, as are a couple of banks with ATMs.
I just came back from a very enjoyable stay at The Cloister Inn. The hotel/rooms are very nicely appointed and look just like the hotel photos. The staff at the hotel was very knowledgeable and helpful with logistics as well as restaurant recommendations. The hotel location I found to be perfect. It is in the Old Town and in walking distance of virtually everything to be seen in Prague. If you like to use a bar of soap for washing/showering rather than a soft-soap dispenser, you should either bring a few or pick up some at a local store. I believe this is true of most hotels in the Czech Republic.
The hotel is situated within the oldest part of the city and is easy walking distance from several points of tourist interest, good quality restaurants and theatres. Cloister Inn has recently been refurbished to a high standard without losing character. The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. The breakfast is served in buffet style, the food being plentiful and constantly replenished. This is an excellent hotel, which my partner and I will definitely use again on our next visit to Prague.
Had a very pleasant stay at Cloister Inn. Great location, very clean hotel, not pretentious but warm & welcoming. Free tea & coffee in the lobby area was a great plus along with the free internet. There was a small library too. Room was large with very comfy bed. Bathroom had heated towel rail, hair dryer and power shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with a fair choice of hot and cold foods, replenished quickly, with freshly baked bread and local meats. All in all we would return here without hesitation.
Spent 4 nights here and agree with many of the comments posted here. The hotel offers basic clean accomodation, and is located on a relatively quiet street in the Old Town. The main square and Charles Bridge are a few minutes on foot. Our only dislike was the breakfast room - the fare is nothing special and at peak times the buffet areas get overcrowded. But a minor flaw, really, considering the rest of our experience. If you're looking for an intimate pension or B&B type experience often found in smaller towns - go somewhere else. But for the basics - the Cloiser Inn is a good choice.
This hotel really is well-located in Prague!! It is minutes away from the bridge, Old Town, and so much more! We walked everywhere whilst we were in Berlin and this hotel really helped with that as it was so centrally located! We found the staff to be most helpful and polite and the hotel was very well kept. The bedroom was clean and well-presented with a good size shower-room. They have a computer in reception linked to the internet which is free to use should you wish to check emails etc. Breakfast was great, something for everyone there! Overall, I'd say that this hotel really was a good find for us based upon it's location more than anything really! I'd definitely recommend it for anyone exploring the city!
Located in a quiet street about 10 minutes walk from the centre of the Old Town this is an excellent hotel from which to explore Prague. It is clean, quiet and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff and a good breakfast set us up for a day's energetic sightseeing. Although it was October we were very lucky with the weather in that it was dry, sunny and not that cold. We did all the usual sights Charles Bridge, Jewish Quarter and Prague castle and had a lovely hour's river trip. Eating out was very good value and contrary to expectations there was a wide variety - even for the vegetarian in our group of three. I would thoroughly recommend the city and especially the hotel!
We were a little leary about booking this hotel based on the price and 3 star rating but were delighted to find it was in an excellent location. It is very close to the Charles Bridge but far enough away to avoid the crowds. It is located in a quiet charming neighborhood with restaurants and little stores. We just loved the Cloister Inn. My main criteria for a hotel is cleanliness and this one was spotless. The staff were very nice as well. The rooms were plain but who spends time in the room when in a magnicficent city like Prague. There were plentiful choices for breakfast but if you're an American you won't find the typical eggs and bacon breakfast as you're used to. But, while in Rome do as the Romans do. We would highly recommend this hotel. Friends of ours stayed at the Hilton which was way out of town and had to take the subway in each day which is not a pleasant experience.
Excellent location for a city break. Spacious rooms and great breakfast. Friendly staff. Would definitely use again.
Excellent hotel. Friendly, homely and efficient. Very good value and staff.
This hotel was just great - friendly staff, very central to everything, lovely breakfasts, great rooms, timely airport pickup - could not fault a thing. Will definately stay here again and have no doubts in recommending this hotel. Top marks.
I have just returned from a three night stay in the Cloisters Inn. The hotel was in a great position, very quiet and safe for three sixty plus ladies. My room was very dark as it looked out on to an area in the middle of the building but my companions room was on the front and much lighter. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant, the free coffee and tea very welcome after a busy day sightseeing. The breakfast was ok but the orange juice was not good, why do hotels try to save money this way! I would stay here again if I return to Prague
We thoroughly enjoyed our winter break in snow covered Prague. There is lots to see and it is a beautiful city - well worth a visit. The castle is a must see, very interesting and the vues are amazing. This hotel was excellent value for money and in an excellent location.
I have just returned from a weekend trip to Prague and stayed in the Cloister Inn Hotel. The hotel is superbly situated, in walking distance to the Old Town and Charles Bridge. The hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. There is complimentary tea and coffee in the Lobby, no bar but there is a small selection of alcohol which can be purchased from the reception. Our room was very clean and quiet although there was an old musty smell when you first enter. The buffet breakfast offers a varied choice and is continually topped up through out the service so they never run-out if you’re a little late getting up. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it – great value for money
My sister and I stayed at the Cloister Inn in February for 2 nights and we were very impressed. It was close to the main attractions for one thing. The staff were very polite and helpful. As for the room, when we first entered the room I thought it was a bit bare, but very clean. It was really spacious, with a closet, an armchair and a desk and a chair. The twin beds looked unconfortable at first... but far from it. We slept like babies. The bathroom was nice and clean and the shower was amazing. Breakfast was also fine, with a good variety of food. Also, the area is very quiet but safe to walk around at the same time. I liked the idea of the magnetic key that they give you at reception to open the front door at night. All in all, an excellent hotel that I would recommend. And I would definitely stay there again.
The Cloister is in a wonderful location, it's 5 minutes from the Charles Bridge and about 8 - 10 minutes from both Lesser Town and the Old Town Square. We did a ton of walking and sight seeing the Cloister was a good central hub for us to hang our heads at night. Speaking of hanging our heads, the beds were nice and firm and very comfortbale. The staff was suberb, they booked our brewery tour for us and besides that they were very friendly. I would definately stay here again, I was satisfied with everything from location, staff, accomadations to the breakfast.
The hotel is located on a rather quiet street, South of the Charles Bridge by a five minute walk. About ten minute's walk to the old town square (but don't ask me how to get there...Those crooked streets will get you lost every time, no matter HOW much beer you've been drinking. But no worries...It's all very walkable, very safe at all hours of the day and night). Friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The maroon and ochre color scheme as you may have seen in photos is slightly dark, and so makes things look a bit more dingy they actually are. Minibar in each room, and individually-controlled air conditioning. TV includes Czech and German channels, plus CNN and CNBC. Windows are double-glazed, so the rooms are very quiet. Though, again, the street is quiet overall. There is a spacious elevator. In-room safe, and plenty of space to keep your things in the closet. I'm not very particular about the bed that I sleep in, but the one in my room was, I'm sorry to say, pretty stiff. If you're very picky about a nice bed, you'll probably be less than thrilled. Nice lobby with a large seating area, plus a small lounge just off of it with a TV and books. Vending machine with snacks and drinks, and though I didn't avail myself of it, apparently there's a 'happy hour' with complimentary coffee-tea and Czech pastries in the late afternoon. Aperetifs/Digestifs and wine also available in the lobby for a charge (though pretty reasonable from what I could see). Security is pretty tight: The only way to get into the hotel after 8 PM is to use an access card they give you when you check in, and then, to get past the lobby into your room, you need to use the your room key (with an attatched sensor to swipe against the door). There's a computer in the lobby for free internet access, which is much-appreciated (provided nobody's hogging it to surf aimlessly). There's also a restaurant directly across the street with excellent, cheap Italian food and free wifi access (but you should plan on at least ordering a drink there to use it, of course). Breakfast is quite good, with a good selection of meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, eggs, beans, juice, and coffee/tea. It's served in a huge room on the fourth floor, and the whole affair is very-well staffed and topped-up. I would recommend this hotel, and would absolutely stay there again if I come back to Prague. The location is great, and the amenities are also great.
Despite its storied history, you would never know it! The hotel is quite sterile and plain. Very standard and quite charmless; not that it is a bad hotel, not at all - just almost misleading with the detailed history - dont expect to have any sense of it while there. Having said that: the hotel is in a WONDERFUL location in Old Town - on a quiet street one block away from Bethelem Square... 5 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square, the Charles Bridge as well as the National Theater... close to everything. Breakfast is your standard continental buffett: deli meats, bread, cereal, fruit, cheeses, yogurt, tomatoes.. the hot food was sausages and on alternating days: hard boiled eggs of baked beans. Free internet in the lobby is a plus as well as the all day complimentary coffee/tea service! Lobby also has an array of international newspapers. A great value, for a great location. Although the front desk staff was wonderful; the cleaning staff was another story. My water glass by my bedside was never cleaned, re-freshed in the 4 days I was there! It made me think what "surface cleaning" was done. Although it is rather charmless, its is completely functional and comfortable - the city has enough charm to make up for the hotel itself!
Easy to get to when driving, good parking facilities, breakfast was very nice
We (ages 75 and 55) stayed at the Cloister Inn in two single rooms Inn for 7 nights in mid June 07. We very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel is comfortable, is on a quiet street and is very well placed for tourist Prague. The staff were friendly, efficient and spoke good English. We booked over the internet ([--]). The single rooms were smallish but adequate, very clean with a nice bathroom (shower but no bath). There is a lift. The rooms were quiet with quadruple glazing. Small TV had CNN in English. Air conditioning was handy. Our rooms had no mini-bar I’m pleased to say. The breakfast was good with fresh ingredients. Eggs and frankfurters were available as well as the usual cold meats, cheese, yogurts, cereal, fruit etc. Free tea and coffee together with an internet terminal are available all day in the lobby. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant but this doesn’t matter because within 50yds in one direction is the excellent Stoletti restaurant and 50 yds in the other direction is a nice café (Paneria) which is useful for coffee and snacks. As well as the Stoletti, we had enjoyable meals at Café Louvre and Café Slavia close by on the main thoroughfare (Narodni trida) and also the Kogo italian restaurant on Havelska. There is small daily market on Havelska and a Tescos supermarket on Narodni trida. We did a lot of walking but also used the efficient metro and trams quite a bit. We bought the 7 day transport card for 280Kc from the Mustek metro. We went an a day trip to Cesky Krumlov and a half day trip to Kutna Hora using Gray Line. Both trips were good. There are lots of concerts in churches and the major auditoria but be aware they are relatively expensive at 600-1000Kc for a short one hour concert. Overall we found Prague to be a beautiful and enjoyable city. Yes, we would definitely stay at the Cloister Inn again.
Good location in the heart of old town. Room was clean and spacious and appeared to have been recently updated. Average breakfast (rolls, cold cuts, cheese, fruits, cereal, juice, coffee, etc). There is one internet in lobby for guest use which is free. Complimentary tea/coffee in lobby was nice. There was a problem with my reservation when I checked in because the price was higher than what I was guaranteed prior to my arrival. However I did speak with management the next day and they did straighten out the problem. Air conditioning worked wonderfully in the room.
Our group occupied 3 rooms at this hotel May, 2007 and enjoyed it very much. It was a good value, great location and very close to the Charles Bridge and main square in old town. We all had very spacious rooms. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful and internet availability to all hotel guests. I would recommend this highly
My family stayed at the cloister in for a few nights in May. The location is superb! We got 3 rooms, 2 people in each room. Two of the rooms were a good size, but ours was REALLY small, just enough space to fit a bed. I was fairly dissapointed in our room, especially becuase I didn't think our rates were that great - approx $200 USD/night (all rooms were the same rate). That said, the staff was friendly and the location is superb. Breakfast was OK - not the best, not the worst. The coffee was great and it's free in the lobby all day long. They also have free interent in the lobby which came in very handy. We ate at the Konvict one night - excellent for a very good price and Stoletti which was also great, but a bit more expensive. I would stay here again, but I would make sure to request a large room. I give this hotel an above average rating because of it's location, hospitality, and cleanliness.
Cloister Inn is ideally situated one block back from the river and just a few hundred yards from Charles Bridge and the Old Town. It is in a fairly quiet street and the double glazing keeps out any traffic noise. Rooms are clean and comfortable with air conditioning and include flat screen TV (though the promised BBC channel was a German one). We had an en suite shower room; don't know if there are any with baths. Reception staff are friendly and helpful and speak good English; there is free tea & coffee in the lobby throughout the day. Breakfast buffet is standard European with the addition of boiled eggs and sausages. There is free internet access in the lobby (just one terminal). All in all a good value hotel well worth considering.
Just got back from a 3 night stay at Cloister Inn. A twin room shared with my travel companion Booked via Hotel Connect, great price and excellent service. Booked flights via Easyjet, again great price and excellent service. The hotel is very clean and well decorated. In a great location, a very short distance from Old Town Square and Charles Bridge, and not too far from the main Wencelas Square. Because there is so much to see and do in Prague, we actually spent very little time in the Hotel, but the beds were comfy, the air con was a blessing in disguise and a substantial continental breakfast was available until 1030. All the staff we met were very polite and assisted us in everyway including booking very reasonable transfers to the airport. I would definitely go back to Prague again and stay at Cloister Inn. I highly recommend this hotel but next time I will more comfy shoes!!!! Luckily the memories will last longer than the blisters!!!
We stayed at the Cloister Inn during the beginning and end of our Central Europe vacation. We were pleased with the room both times, the beds were very comfortable. The air conditioning came in handy, especially during the recent hot days. The street is very quiet, yet not deserted. The staff was helpful and always willing to find information that you need. The only thing is the day of our departure, our airport transfer was scheduled for 6 AM, I was disappointed that the coffee machine was not functional at that hour (it was greatly needed!!), even though the sign says it is available from 6 AM - 10 PM.
My husband and I stayed in Cloister Inn in May/07 for two nights. At first, we were little bit frustrated because it was little hard to find. But I quickly learned that nothing was easy to find in Prague especailly if you were driving. So, that did not bother me much. We liked this hotel very much because: 1. it has its own parking lot, which is secured. 2. its convenient location (few minutes from major attractions) 3. Clean room and bathroom 4. it is located in a quite neighborhood, which is hard to find in the center of Prague. (No drunken people screaming ....) 5. Its security system. (you need 3 keys to get into your room. One for outside door, one for the sliding door between reception area and the guest rooms, and one for your room) I think that we would stay here again.
Hi, We booked this place on the BA website as there was a deal on and after reading the reviews was looking forward to it. The location of this hotel is very good, the decor is ok,staff are very pleasent and the breakfast is ok. The biggest was problem we had was when we arived. We got put in a room that had clearly just been vacated by dirty, horrible, smokers...I told them I didn't want this before I went but obviously didn't consider my request. We complained and got moved to three other rooms that had a disguting stench of the worst habbit known to man. It was clear they didn't have a non smoking room so we went for the least disgusting one and spent the 5/6 nights with the windows open. If it wasn't so well rated then I wouldn't have had the expectations that clearly your gonna have when it's rated 20 out of over 200 but they were genuine issues and to have a room and was polluted with such a filthy habit did annoy me. But hey, I'd stay there again but on the agreement we could stay in a non smokers room so be aware... Great location, would recommend and if I could suggest one thing....don't allow them to put you in the old building, it really is a walk away from the main receeption and breakfast area and the the building and room is really dated...think it's an adjoining building!! If I could recomment a hotel...go for the Rokoko!
We stayed at the Cloister Inn Hotel in a triple room for three nights in May 2007. The hotel is centrally located (about a 5 minute walk from the trolley line that you can take from the train station) and an easy walk to most attractions. The hotel lobby is quite nice with several couches and chairs. There is a machine that makes coffee, espresso and tea as well as free internet access. The layout of the hotel is a bit odd. Getting to our room involved taking two different elevators (or sets of stairs) but the room was good sized and very clean. The included breakfast was quite good and included eggs and breakfast meats. Staff were extremely helpful. We were supposed to meet our 16 year old son at the train station as he was arriving from Vienna. He did not arrive as scheduled and the staff assisted us with contacting his host family in Austria as well as communicating with the people at the train station. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Prague.
Great location. Central. 5 mins walk to Wenceslas square and Old Town square but on a quiet side street. Liked the fact that this was not just another chain hotel. Clean comfortable room. Powerful shower! Friendly staff. Basic but satisfying breakfast. Would go back to this hotel when return top Prague which hope to do as stunning city. Wear good comfortable shoes- high heels on cobbled streets not a good match! Guarentee you will walk miles. Recommend getting funicular to top of Petrin Hill/park opposite castle then walking down as very steep. Great views though so well worth the trip.
Good location, easy to walk to everywhere. Beds were just OK, but the rooms were very clean. Breakfast was serviceable, nothing special. For as crowded as Prague is, this hotel was remarkably quiet. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free internet access on 1 computer in the lobby.
Husband, sister and I spent three nights at this hotel. Booked one double room and a single room and we were on the top fifth floor. Double room was quite spacious and bathroom was also quite large with an additional chair in the corner. Single room was also fine for one person. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with hair dryer, FREE room safe, TV, telephone, air conditioning and a reasonable priced mini bar. Plenty of clean white towels and if required toiletries could be requested at reception. Free tea and coffee machine was available in the reception lounge and also a small mini bar with glasses, ice etc if you wished a drink in this area. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and breakfast was more than adequate for us. Turning left at the hotel door took a short five minute walk to Charles Bridge and turning right took about 10 minutes to the Old Town Square, etc. Bar and restaurant across the street and we also visited the Euro Orient bar a few yard to the left at hotel door. We probably would never have gone into this bar normally but I had read previously on th site about the helpful bar owner and we had to agree. Also spirits and mixers (Smirinoff vodka) was 50 cronas. We also thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Stolletti along the road to the left. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed this city break to Prague and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would not term it a basic hotel. Very good in fact.
Stayed early May for a mid week break at this hotel. Had read reviews on trip advisor which were all positive. Would agree with every review I had read that this hotel is excellent. Perfectly positioned within walking distance of the old town attractions, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square etc., but in a quiet cobbled street away from the noise of the centre. The room was clean and modern as was the bathroom. The breakfast (buffet) was adequate in a pleasant dining room.Staff very helpful and free tea and coffee available in reception. Would recommend evening dining at the Staromestska Restaurace in the Old Town Square (excellent food and service)and for that last drink on the way back to the hotel try Papa’s bar which is just down the road from the Cloister Inn. Overall would revisit this hotel and Prague again – it is a wonderful city.
We booked this hotel because it was rated #1 on the BA holiday website and the ratings here weren't too bad. We wanted a romantic getaway in Prague. For the cost I was very disappointed. It is clean and it has a good shower but I don't think that makes it a worthwhile hotel. The room has not been updated since it was a monastery/prison except for some prints on the wall and to get to the room we had to go up 4 sets of stairs and two elevators. The double room was two single beds pushed together with two single duvets. I thought it was a nice hostel room but for £100 pn it is a bit overpriced. I would NEVER recommend anyway to stay here.
Nice hotel off the beaten path from Pragues crowded areas, but easily within walking distance of Charles Bridge and the Astronomical Clock. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Free internet and a minibar. Would stay here again.
Nice hotel with history: former convent, then former holding cells for the police, now a hotel. Clean, though small rooms. private bathrooms, but shower only. Great location to hit the major sites in the city (most sites within walking distance. Polite, extremely helpful staff.
The hotel is a good budget hotel if you want to be in the City centre. My room was very clean and comfortable. Quiet and adequate for a business trip. The hotel is basic in so much as it provides an adequate breakfast in a fairly busy (tourist) dining room. No bar but a very cheap, local bar across the road. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel but on the basis that it is used as a city centre base for those who don't want to use the underground and taxis.
This is an excellent moderately priced hotel. It is very central, handy for everything and has spacious clean rooms and a good continental breakfast. Staff pleasant, free use of safes and free tea and coffee all day. Prague in general is a wonderful city
We booked through British Airways and got a great deal - paid half the rack rate. This hotel is in a great location for visiting the sights of Prague. They don't have happy hour any more despite it being advertised in the bedrooms - receptionist said they hadn't done it for over a year so it hasn't been re-instated. They do have a machine for tea and coffee in the lounge and that is available all the time and it's free. IT means guests tend to congregate here and talk to each other which is nice. We were in room 101 which was okay. The shower was excellent and the bed - two mattresses inside a wooden frame - was firm but very comfortable. The pillows were good too, I had no trouble sleeping well...though that might have had something to do with all the walking and the wine! Our first dinner was a disappointment, the Zlatty Duur then another guest told us about the Konvict restaurant and we liked it so much we ate there every night. I'm not much of a walker but managed to get up to the Castle and to Wencelas Square on foot. The Old Town Square is not much more than five minutes away. The hotel arranged a taxi from the airport for us for 650 crowns, the return journey, also organised by the hotel was 590...which was excellent for four of us. We all enjoyed our stay here and would go back again. Our only regret was leaving the day before the Easter market opened in Prague...next time we'll know better.
We agree with the recent review (in March). We stayed for 5 nights, and were impressed with the value for money of this hotel. We has booked a few months in advance, and had obtained a very good deal. The major attraction for this hotel is its location; this hotel is right in the heart of the "nice" Prague - i.e. away from the Nove Mesto, and the crowds of hen and stag do's that populate Wenceslas Square. Charles Bridge and the river are very close. There are lovely old squares and restaurants very close by, and we would certainly recommed the Stoletti as has been previously mentioned on here. This was a good place, with genuinely well cooked food at a reasonable price. We did venture into the restaurant right next to the Hotel (though we can't remember it's name!). This was, I think, a more genuine Czech pub experience. I had roast duck and dumplings, and my wife had roast pork with bread dumplings. Neither were particulary nice, but for both main meals, 2 beers and a sprite it wasnt more than about £7 (GBP!). If anyone likes their beers, I would recommend a trip to the pub opposite (it sells "Gamberti" beer so is distinguisable from the rest!). This was a lovely local cellar type pub, where you won't find any English people, and will get kicked out of a seat for the locals (who have been sitting there for the last 20 years at least!), but I didn't mind. The beer was only 20 kroner.....about 50p for a wonderful half litre of pure Czech lager!! This isn't a "luxorious" hotel, but it is good, clean and very pleasant accommodation, and is to be recommended. The breakfasts were also very good - could not complain with the range of good continental choices available.
Have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Cloister Inn. Previous reviews were accurate as it was close to all the attractions and was located in a quiet area, The staff were all extremely helpful and knowledgeable and their recommendations on where to eat also lived up to all our expectations. The Stoleti and Rotisserie were both excellent with plenty of choices for the most discerning diner. Our room although small was exceptionally clean as was the bathroom. The bed was low with a thin mattress but was extremely comfortable and we sleptt very well. The breakfast room was bright and airy with plenty of choice - cereals, cold meats, cheese, sausage, eggs, chocolate spread, honey jam, fresh fruit and an assortment of bread and rolls. If we visited Prague again we would definitely stay at the Cloister Inn - it deserves more stars.
We stayed at the Cloister Inn in September 2006. The location is wonderful, a block away from some very nice and very inexpensive restaurants, adjacent to the main tourist areas, the river, the main business areas, the subway, etc. It is located on a quiet street. The rooms are clean, had ample space, and they were cheerful. The full breakfast was very good. On several occasions we asked the employees at the desk for assistance. They would stand up, and very formally, very politely very professionally ask me how they could help me. One time it was to get extra pillows. Another time it was to ask direction or to ask about a tourist site. Yet another time, a tour we had arranged hadn't arrived to pick us up. They called the tour agency, tracked down the our contact person, and negotiated another tour for us. I've traveled a lot for business working for Kodak, but I'd have to say, this is equal to the best, most professional staff I've ever encountered at any hotel. The last day there, I asked the desk clerk if I could speak with the manager. The desk clerk phoned the manager in the back office, and when the manager arrived, she stood up, took four steps back, and stood there with hands folded in front of her while I addressed the manager. I went into detail about why I thought her staff was as good as the best staff I had ever encountered in any hotel in all the places I had traveled in the world. The hotel lobby is very pleasant with areas to sit. There is one computer for internet access. I never had to wait more then 15 minutes for it. Most people limited their access time when other's were waiting. I would recommend this hotel. For the cost, it is a great place to stay, and the location can't be beat.
Excellent well run hotel. Rooms spacious showeroom exceptionally clean. Found staff very helpful and all spoke english well. Breakfast buffet style with lots to choose from (sausages great) Location within 5-10 minutes from most attractions. I found it quite easy to find thanks to other reviews. Quick recap to get there purchase 3 or 7 day ticket from tram, train and bus booth which you will find in airport just before the exit. 7 Day pass will cost you approx £7.50 which gives you unlimited travel on all transport around Prague including bus No. 119 which takes you from airport to the metro station a journey of approx 25 minutes Validate your ticket on bus by putting it into yellow machine which stamps date on it you do not have to repeat this process for the remainder of your stay. Once leaving the bus and arriving to the metro station travel as far as MUSTEK which takes you out on to ST. WENCELAS SQUARE it will take you about 15mins walk from there to reach the hotel. Found great eating value in a bar called KONVIKT which is less than 5mins from hotel.Price of 2 main courses, 2 desserts, 2 bottles of wine and 2 coffees around £20 the lot. To get to this place when coming out of hotel turn right walk for approx 80 yards then take first turn on right up a narrow alleyway and at top of this alleyway is the KONVIKT. Main places to see , Charles bdge, Castle on a sunday at noon when changing of the guard takes place, Jewish quarter and the astronomincal clock. Enjoy your holiday and hope this right up has been of use.
This hotel was perfect in every way. Our room was HUGE (sitting/dressing area with TV, separate sleeping area, bathroom) and even though it overlooked the street was very quiet thanks to double-double glazing. Comfy bed (bit on the hard side for my partner) and great buffet breakfast included in the price. Tea & coffee in the room would be a nice touch but there is free tea and coffee in the lobby. TV could have been bigger but let's face it, you don't go to Prague to watch TV all day. The hotel is situated just off the main street Národní and is close to trams, metro and a supermarket. Contrary to what other reviewers have said, I didn't think it was difficult to find - walk down Na Przisztyne street to Konviktska and it's half-way down. Highly recommended for any traveller.
Just returned from 5 night stay at this great hotel. From the moment we arrived all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. A member of staff carried our bags to our room and refused a tip!!! The room was light, bright and the beds were very comfortable. When we enquired about visiting Terezin, another member of staff found details of public transport on the net and printed them out for us along with directions to the bus station via the underground. Breakfast was good and the complimentary tea/coffee at reception was extremely welcoming after a day exploring this wonderful city. The location of this hotel is perfect, being within a few minutes walk of all attractions including Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square. The Old Town Square is literally round the corner yet the street where the hotel is situated is very quite and peaceful. All in all a fantastic 3 star hotel providing 5 star service. We will definately be returning.
This was my second visit to this Hotel. I am a travel agent and have stayed in and seen lots of hotels so I can assure anyone thinking of going to Prague that they will be more than pleased with the Cloister Inn. The staff are courteous and welcoming, the Hotel itself is spotless in all areas with a daily maid service, and something to please all tastes at breakfast. The location is a winner with everything so close by, and yet the strret where it is located is so peaceful. Dont bother trawling through lots of sites looking at Hotels just book this you will not be disappointed!
We stayed in Prague Oct30-Nov04 2006 and had the opportunity to stay at the Cloister Inn. It was probably a 15-20 minute car ride to the hotel from the airport. The hotel staff was extremely nice even though I was not in the best mood (luggage not sent over from LHR). Everytime I interacted with any member of the staff they were extremely cordial. One employee even allowed me to give him my iPod to charge on their computer. The bathroom was nice, shower a good size and well lit. Rooms were clean and there are double windows facing the street. I actually put my water bottle between the windows to stay cold. Our room was on the same floor as the breakfast room so we took advantage of it several times as it was included. Everything was fresh and plentiful. The best thing about the hotel was it's location. Every morning we left the hotel, turned right and just started walking. We were v. close to the Charles Bridge and all the squares. We really didn't need the a map from the hotel since it is so close to everything. We just needed it once we got to Old Town Square. One drawback was the construction nearby, but it wasn't noisy, just a bit blocked off. I would absolutely stay here again if I were in Prague.
My son and I stayed here the first week of January when he did some research for his M.Mus. studies. I don't know quite how we can have been more satisfied. The only reason I don't give it an "excellent" rating is because that's probably to be reserved for some really upscale properties. But everything else was great: attentive and friendly staff, comfortable room--not too fancy, but far from spartan. In-room safe where we stashed cameras and extra cash. A towel-warmer in the (small) bathroom! A small library of books, including a couple of language-dictionaries off the lobby. Newspapers to read. The breakfast is excellent, far, far beyond what you get at anything less than an Embassy Suites hotel (or equivalent) here in the states. We went most of the day simply on the strength (and sheer quantity) of the breakfast in a very pleasant breakfast room.. Note to US travelers: the furnishings, including the beds have an IKEA-type appearance, and I wasn't sure how the relatively thin mattress would serve, but I quickly learned that the bed was very comfortable. We were 5 minutes from the Opera, 6-8 minutes from the Old Town Square (I can't be sure because I kept getting lost in Prague's streets), about 6 minutes from the Tesco dept. store. If I have any complaint, the room was a bit warm at night, and it might be nice if there were another internet terminal in the lobby--one woman decided to use it to give her son reading exercises while the rest of us cooled our heels. But those were very minor. I hope to stay there again. Our stay was arranged by Tatra Travel in Brooklyn (czechvacations.com), with airport transfers, a tour, etc. Also excellent service from them.
We took a train to Prague from Dresden in the evening and arrived at what has to be the seediest train stations I have ever seen. The Prague train station is in a rundown part of town, containing dozens of people that were homeless, begging, or waiting for their next fix or victim. It should be an embarrassment to the city council. Most of the shops were closed and the whole place was decidedly grimy. I had just phoned the hotel from the train and the chipper woman at the hotel said, “Just take tram #9 to Narodni Trida and you will be there”. Yeah, maybe if you also had been to Prague many times. There were no signs pointing you to the trams, nobody even remotely helpful to point out where the trams ran, and after finding a person willing to help, they pointed us in the opposite direction of the tram station we needed. If you insist on taking the tram, exit the station on the ground floor, and turn west, toward the Charles bridge. A 2 minute walk through a park will get you to the tram stop. Take the #9 going to your left and get off at the 5th stop, right next to the Tesco Dept store. From there, it's a five minute walk. Use a map. Nevertheless, the alternative is taxis, which were demanding 400 crowns (about $20) for a 5 minute ride. After we got on the tram (and rode for free since we couldn’t figure out how to pay), we got off at Narodnii Trida, finally got our bearings and found the hotel. In retrospect, bargain a little more to 200-300 crowns and be happy that you are taking the taxi. The hotel is located on a very quiet street very close to the river, just 5 minutes south east of the Charles Bridge. The lobby is spacious with internet access (you need to pay) and the staff was helpful and cheerful. I checked in quickly and went to the room (#217) which was quiet and comfortable. It was very clean and the bathroom was well appointed. The water pressure was great and a quick shower got me in the mood for dinner. The man behind the desk inexplicably pointed me to a restaurant down the street which was closed (on a Friday night?). A second choice yielded a modest bar/restaurant around the corner called Konvikt. The food was OK, overcooked meat, dumplings, and some form of vegetable, but then again, you don’t really go to Prague for the food do you? Original Budweiser was served which was of course excellent. The atmosphere was nice but I'm on the fence whether I'd really recommend this place. Down the street, there was a bar called Al Capone's which was packed but looked like a crowd for 30-somethings. If I had only been a littel more energetic, I would have gone another two blocks to U Medvidku, a nice looking place with great beer. I stopped there for a beer on a queit Saturday afternoon and found it to be attractive and comfortable. This may be a better bet for dinner in the area. The following day, I checked out and the staff cheerfully kept my bags at the hotel (in an unlocked room) for the day. They arranged a taxi for me to the airport and off I went. In general, this was a nice hotel which was both functional and comfortable. The location cannot be beat. It is within 5 minutes of shopping, the National Museum and Charles Bridge, yet very quiet. Breakfast buffet was included which was a typical European breakfast of cereal, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt and coffee. Finally, I recommend the 2-hour walking tour of Prague. It starts in front of the National Museum (look for the yellow umbrella) . It starts at 9:45 and is a terrific intro to this magical city.
I've just returned from a five night stay at the Cloister Inn with my seven year old son, my brother and his gilfriend. Prague itself has a beautiful centre - very historic and with extensive medieval architecture, and I was expecting the hotel to also look much like this. This was my only (small) disappointment. The hotel is quite plain, but very clean. I stayed in a twin room with en suite bathroom that could have been in any city in the world. However, what made my stay was the location of the hotel. It is very close to all the major attractions (10 minutes walk to the Astronomical Clock, the Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square etc), and that's walking with a small child. Breakfast consisted of cereal (two choices), yogurt, breads, frankfurt sausages, boiled eggs, fruit, cheese, cold meat (mostly pork). There was also coffee, hot chocolate, fruit juice, jans and cheese or chocolate spread. Although not extensive, it covered most needs. I was so glad we went for 5 nights - it meant that not only could we do several tours (the Bone Chapel at Kutna Hora/Sedlec is one my son will talk of forever I think!! - the chapel is made completely of human bones), but we could also take it easy and walk around at a more relaxed pace when we needed to. The hotel is located on a small cobbled side street. There is a restaurant opposite, and a couple of very small bars further down the road. The hotel can arrange transfers from the airport for you at extra cost. So, to sum up, although the hotel itself is not particularly architecturely charming, the rooms are clean, the breakfast adequate and the location excellent. I would definitely stay here again.
Its took me a while to submit this review, but I promised myslef I would write a review as I booked the cloister inn on the recommendations made by other trip advisor members so here goes...... Firstly, this was my second trip to Prague with my girlfriend (we are 28 and 30). On our first trip we stayed by the castle on Nerudova, but this time around we tried to find a hotel with a more central location and this hotel did not disappoint. The hotel is located in a quiet side street, perfect if you like to have a nice sleep in till mid morning. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a friendly receptionist and allocated our room (210). The reception area was spotlessly clean and also had a free internet facility which was very useful to check out the weather and news back home. In order to get upstairs to our room there was a security door which you needed to gain access through - this was done by using the key to your room - I found this was an added bonus to prevent strangers walking into the hotel off the street. Our Room - The room was lovely and clean. We had maid service every day when our beds were made and towels changed. We had a lounge area with a small sofa and a small tv and fridge (handy for placing your own bottled water in during the evening). The bathroom was spotlessly clean and had a really good shower system. The room was also nice and warm, sometimes too warm, but that was our fault for turning up the heating! Breakfast - I am not a breakfast person, but did venture out for it a couple of times. It was the usual standard fare; cereals, toast, meat, sausages boiled egss, yoghurts - it more than catered for our needs. The best part for me was the fresh orange machine which I found really nice and as you could drink unlimited amounts. Location - This is the best feature of the hotel; you are literally a few minutes walk from all of the central locations. I would say a 5-10 min walk to the Charles Bridge and again 5-10 min walk to Wenceslas Sq. At the top of the street is Bethlehem Chapel. In the vicinity of Bethlehem Chapel there are a number of bars and restaurants which we visited at the start of our nights out. There are a number of restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel, Stoletis is one of them (personally I found Stoletis overated and found better value restaurants elsewhere - the chice is yours). As we are big lovers of mexican food we had reserved a table at La Cantina (over the Charles Bridge) we had wanted to visit Azteca, but unfortunately this was being refurbished during our stay - we'll get back there later rhis year! The main reason for our trip was for a nice romantic city break, with some sightseeing in the day, followed by a lovely restaurant in the evening and then a trip around the local bars and clubs. The Cloister Inn provided us with an excellent base for all of our needs.
Biggest plus points of the Cloister Inn are it's distance from the main sites - 5 mins walk to the Charles Bridge/Old Town and 10 mins to Wenceslas Square AND the bargain price - we paid £100 per night per room (incl an excellent buffet breakfast) and that was over New Year! It may sound pricey for a 3* but hotels in Prague are notoriously costly. The hotel itself was a little basic & bland but very clean and the bathrooms had obviously been recently renovated (all new clean tiling & fittings etc) - we managed to get allocated one of the largest double rooms (according to the hotel floor plan) which was room AP2 on the second floor - well worth requesting it. It's definitely worth checking out the bar at the end of the road for a night cap - the Euro Orient, run by a Jordanian guy who is lovely - he's been living in Prague for 20+ years so can give you some great tips! Apart from the obvious sites make sure you go and have lunch at the Television Tower restaurant in Zizkov (66m up) - stunning views of Prague and a great experience - www.tower.cz. Petrin Hill is also a great trip too but sadly the observation tower, maze etc were closed in winter so a definite trip in summer time. Enjoy Prague and the Cloister Inn - we did!!
We stayed three nights at the Cloister Inn for New Year 2006 and were very impressed with every aspect of the hotel. When we arrived check in was fast, efficient and friendly. Security is very good (you need a pass to get your key when you come in at night and the keyfob lets you through to the lifts. The left luggage is attended with tickets issued for collection. From other reviews and the hotels web site we were expecting the hotel to be nice but it far exceeded our expectations and was so clean and bright it looked like it had been very recently refurbished. The mini bar in our room was a nice surprise being reasonably priced. The location is great being both central (5 mins walk to Old Town Square, 2 mins to the river) and on quiet street. There was plenty of choice on the breakfast buffet with cooked items also, and the staff were friendly. Though we didn't use it the hotel offers a taxi booking service at fixed prices. Overall we were very happy with the Cloister Inn and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and recommend it to others.
Just returned from a 3 night stay at Cloister Inn. Staff very helpful and friendly; room spacious c/w sofa and coffee table and easy chairs. Hotel/room very clean; free internet access but sadly drinks machine was broken during our visit. (No tea or coffee making facilities in room.) Ideal location, easy walking distance of all main tourist areas and yet, quietly situated. We have never experienced anything quite like New Year's Eve in prague! The noise of heavy duty fireworks and revellers was around for hours and yet once in the hotel - peace and quiet!. This despite the fact that our room faced on to the street. This was our second visit to Prague and we will have no hesitation in returning. See it now before the stag nights / hen nights ruin it.
We stayed here for one night (New Year's Eve). Excellent service from the staff on reception. All spoke good English and were very helpful. Rooms very spacious and clean. Usual stuff: tv, mini bar (cheap), desk, chairs and comfortable bed. Although that night I could have slept on a pine cone - cheap beer. Breakfast very good, wide choice and plenty to choose from. Easy to get a table and clean. Location 5 star for all attractions in Prague. Recommend U Medvicku bar nearby. Place erupted at midnight with fireworks and people. We went to Prague in 2003 and place is different now - more westernised and definitely not as cheap as it was. Previously free attractions now require a fee or there has been a hike in the fee since 2003. Hotel very highly recommended and would stay again.
We stayed in the Cloister Inn for 3 nights and it was one of the nicest placest we have stayed in. The rooms were excellent and staff coukdnt be more helpful to us. I would highly recommend staying here when coming to prague. I will be back next year for sure
The most amazing thing about this hotel is its location.Set right in the heart of The Old Town and literally minutes away from everything and all within walking distance. Tucked away down a quiet street, but near enough to all the fantastic sights of Prague. Okay now to the hotel itself. If you`re British and youve stayed in a Travel Inn in the UK or indeed a Premier Lodge, well these places dont fall too short of The Cloister Inn. The only main difference is the setting obviously. The hotel is furnished to a very good standard and the hotel lobby/reception is a welcoming area, staffed by efficient, helpful staff. We found the lobby a nice place to chill out after a long day exploring the city. There is tea and coffee available, but I must stress, only in this particular area and at certain times of the day. There are no facilities for tea and coffee in standard rooms, unlike the Travel Inns in the UK. A mini bar is provided, but items must be paid for on departure. My wife and I would have liked to have enjoyed coffee in our room in the late evening or early morning, but with this service not available we had to wait until breakfast or use the facility in reception. The room itself was very clean and modern, but if I had a gripe,we had booked a double room and on arrival found two single beds pushed together. The matresses were also very thin and not overly comfortable, but after a long day we managed to sleep okay. The buffet breakfast was lovely with a very good choice of food and plentiful, although you sometimes had to dodge the eager staff filling up the various breakfast items whilst you were serving yourself. This hotel is all about location. There cannot be a better spot to be staying than this. The hotel itself could be better in some aspects with little touches meaning a lot, but it would be unfair to criticise it too much because it is in a prime location and generally is very good.My point being,if a Travel Inn or Premier Lodge was in the same spot they would be almost equally as good. Prague is a fantastic city, full of charm, history, superb architecture and terrific bars and restaraunts. We definately will be returning very soon and I can recommend The Cloister Inn to those who wish to explore this fantastic city from the hotel doorstep to anywhere interesting in minutes..
This hotel was a great value. Having traveled extensively throughout the world, I know how difficult it can be to find a good hotel in Europe, unless you have the means to stay in a Four Seasons, Intercontinental or similar properties. I would say that this hotel gave three to four star accomodation for a two star price. The hotel staff were friendly, attentive, and educated. Since my knowledge of the Czech language is limited, I was pleased that the staff all spoke flawless English. The room was clean, comfortable and fairly new. The furnishings were stylish, the beds were nice, and the bathroom was the largest I have seen in Europe. The morning breakfast was more than I expected, including bread, toast, rolls, cereal, yogurt, fruit, ham, salami, cheese, tea, coffee, juice, and milk......the breakfast room was also stylish and tastefully done. The hotel included some nice extras including; free internet usage from 6am - 11pm, free coffee and tea in the lobby, a great location five minutes walk from Charles Bridge and Old Town, an afternoon "happy hour" including tea, coffee and Czech pastries. Trust me when I say, you will like this hotel.
This was our 8th time (41 nights in all) at the Cloister Inn since November 1999. This hotel has always suited us very well for its central location, price, excellent breakfasts, clean comfortable rooms and its proximity to the National Theatre for wonderful performances of Czech operas. Although this hotel still has much to recommend it (including its reliable taxi service to and from the airport), this time we were a little disappointed. When we checked in for four nights (Thursday-Monday), I told the girl at the desk proudly that this was our eighth time at this hotel. To this she said that we would no doubt be familiar with the rooms along the red line. I groaned slightly at this, as indeed we had stayed once before in what is euphemistically called Part 1of the hotel, which in practice means that the rooms are a long way from reception. However, my husband and I remembered the cosy breakfast room in the basement for that part of the hotel and duly took the room keys offered to us. To reach our rather small room, we had to go up to the first floor (stairs or lift), walk along a corridor, down some steps, along another corridor to another lift which took us to the half landing between two floors, so that we then had to either go up or down a flight of stairs to reach our room. Still, there was always the cosy breakfast room! However, times have changed.! The second breakfast room is no more. Accessing the only breakfast room in the hotel involved the above journey in reverse. A month before our trip, (booked in May,) to attend a wedding at the Old Town Hall, my husband had had a fall and had injured his leg, so that walking was temporarily a problem for him. We therefore asked whether we could have a room in the main part of the hotel and were refused, so the next morning my husband asked again and somewhat grudgingly the receptionist eventually acceded to our request for the next three nights of our stay. The only breakfast room is now very crowded, with overflow tables in the corridor. The most welcome free tea and coffee in the pleasant lobby has been withdrawn. Instead there is a Happy Hour for tea and coffee between 4 and 5 pm. The Cloister Inn is still a delightful place to stay, but I would have expected that repeat guests (who have also encouraged friends and family to stay here) would be treated a little better. I should add that I have already emailed the manager in order to give him a chance to reply before I submitted this review, but, three weeks on, I have yet to receive a reply.
I have just returned from a 5 day break in Prague where 24 of us stayed at the Cloister Inn. We are English and ranged in ages from 50 - 80. The hotel was perfect. Central, but tucked away so not too noisy. Rooms vary, some of us had small but adequate rooms others had quite palatial rooms, just the luck of the draw. Hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The booking was efficiently and politely handled and our pre-booked transport from the airport, which we booked with the hotel, was waiting for us upon arrival. Breakfast was a choice of eggs, sausages, cereals, cold meats, cheeses, tea, coffee, juices, etc, and as much as you wanted. It was possible to walk to most of the main tourist sites from the hotel or jump on one of the many cheap trams from the main road just a 5 minute walk away. We ate at the Stoleti restaurant just a few yards from the hotel which was excellent, we also ate at the Rilke which was less than 5 mins walk from the hotel, a small, cosy, restaurant which specialised in delicious Czech food and made particularly pleasant by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We also ate at Restaurant Pod Kridlem located just up Vorsilska off the main Narodni road, which was superb, again just 5 mins walk from hotel and finally Klub Architektu, a stone cellar restaurant serving delicious Czech food. Prague is incredibly easy to find your way around, all streets are very clearly named and the tram system superb. The architecture is outstanding and varied, all the wonderful buildings in excellent condition and when you tire of that side of Prague there are some huge parks to take refuge in. It has everything that anyone could want for a varied city break and all 24 of us thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Closter Inn was a very good hotel. We were a family of 3 (couple and 12 year old) and the room was perfect -- single room with desk and tV, and separate double bed room! The bathroom was new (shower only). It was clean, up-to-date and comfortable. There was a room safe. There wasn't internet in our room (my husband brought his computer), but the computer in the lobby was free and generally easily available. Our room was just outside of the breakfast room -- breakfast was fine, a pretty good selection so you could either have a continental or eggs/meats. Lots of different kinds of bread (the rye was great!). It was a plain room, but decorated with art from a local artist. On our first night, we stumbled upon a small restaurant called R.M. Rilke,,,just down the street (where there is a small round church, then turn right for a block or so) -- where we had wonderful food at fairly good prices (we're Canadian, but had just come over from London-England, so the prices seemed a little better, but still not cheap!) Their venison goulash was great! And our waiter spoke a little english and was very hospitable. We returned for our final night's dinner. We were in Prague for 3 nights. I emailed the hotel and they had a car waiting for us at the airport, and again, we were able to arrange for a car to take us back early on the morning we left (5:30 am!). That was very convenient. The location was 10 minutes walk to the Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge, but at the same time, it felt like it was off the beaten path. It was great. We walked everywhere, including up to Prague Castle and the Jewish Quarter and cemetary. The hotel was very secure, and you needed your hotel pass to enter the area with the stairs and elevator to the rooms. Even in the evenings (we went on a 'Ghost Walk' one night and returned around 11pm to our hotel), we felt very safe in the area. We would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and families.
We booked four days in Prague and stayed at the Cloister inn and was very pleased, the staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was great. When we left the air port to make our way to the hotel, we found the transportation desk in the air port lobby, everyone was asking for directions so we joined the queue... The way you get in to prague is whatever choice you fancy, taxi, minibus OR bus link and underground, everyone else seemed to be going for this option so hey, i will give anything a go !!! Armed with a leaflet with the stop needed clearly marked we set off, outside the airport is a, b ,c, bus stops, pick the one you need and your off, our bus went as far as the underground and off we got, we walked down to the platform and while we were getting our bearings a elderly gent tapped me on the shoulder and pointed in the direction we needed to go. We got on the underground train, and a few stops later arrived at ours.WELL you have never seen an escalator so steep, not even on the underground in London have i even seen one as steep. SO before a nose bleed was induced, we started to see daylight appear, and at the top of the escalator at street level was TESCOS!! Now go in to Tescos and buy your street map, they do a fantastic mini size one , the best we saw as its invaluable. We were dead lucky as well as we found this area was pretty central and the cloister inn is only across the road and around a couple of corners, The trams run passed here also to whereever you may need to go and after a couple of rides on the trams you will pick up the route systems easily. SO EXPLORE, HOP OFF AND ON THE TRAMS ALL OVER THE CITY. visit the palace, the jewish quater, the square especially at night where you can sit out under canvas with patio heaters to keep you warm, try a great little bar just across the road from tescos , cant remember the namebut if you stand out side tescos looking across the street then it is up towards your left, all the shiny brass bar can be seen from the outside of the pub and DONT miss a trip to The U FLECKU bar a few streets down, the blackest beer brewed on the premises, combined with an umpah band and good local food, cant remember the name of the st but just ask and everyone will know where it is. SO Prague transport good, food great, city fab and hotel just caps at all would recomend to all
I recently stayed at the Cloiser Inn, and it was one of the highlights of my trip. It's in a great location, and the staff is excellent (one of the few things my travel agent didn't screw up). In particular, Pavla at the front desk was especially helpful and friendly. First, I had to change rooms, and she was very courteous. Second, I needed a little help finding my way around town - she was a great assett and pointed out a spot in the park that was charming and "off the beaten path" and an art exhibit that I certainly would have missed otherwise. Thanks to all at Cloister.
we had a nice stay at this hotel. the location is excellent. so close to everything which is nice. the hotel itself is just above average. we stayed at a part of the hotel where we had to walk a far distance and up 5 flights of stairs to get to our room. we could not access it by elevator which was annoying. the staff were good at giving information but not terribly friendly. was nice that the internet was free. the mattresses in our room were on the soft side. and it would have been nice if there was a bathtub in the room. but everything was clean. the breakfast was very good. with lots of choice and everything was very fresh. i would stay at this hotel again for the location and the hotel itself was fine but nothing amazing. for restaurants close to the hotel i would recommend: restaurance stoleti - down the street. a must try. light czech food? there is such a thing : ) very nice candlelit atmosphere and very reasonable prices. kavarna slavia - close to legii bridge. old prague cafe feel. great views and good goulash and other traditional dishes. good prices. klub architektu - nice cellar restaurant bar. food was okay. but definitely a good place to go to experience these old cellars.
Excellent hotel in excellent location, very central, just minutes from the George Bridge. Booked through BA, who didn't give me an option for an A/C room, so I e-mailed the hotel to ask if I could have an A/C room, which they did. Impressive. The room was actually almost a suite - two rooms and bathroom, very spacious and scrupulously clean. Huge bed, though would have prefered one large duvet rather than two separate ones - very minor niggle. Bathroom well stocked with lots of fluffy white towels, tho' you need to leave these on the floor to get them replaced each day. Breakfasts were excellent, with wide choice, hot included franks and eggs, alternating hard-boiled and scrambled. Dining room also kept scrupulously clean and tidy, never any problems finding a clean table. Many good and inexpensive restaurants within a few minutes walk, too. Staff spoke faultless English and did everything to make us welcome and our stay extremely enjoyable. Would recommend using the hotel taxi back to the airport, a bit more expensive than Cedaz (which we used on arrival) but much more comfortable - and the driver insisted on carrying our luggage into the terminal for us. Prague itself is now a lot busier than the last time I was there 10 years ago, with large numbers of groups everywhere on "walking tours". We did everything by ourselves, armed with the DK guide book, and loved every minute of our six days there.
Cloister Inn is in a prime location in Prague - 5 minute walk to the main square - Stare Mesto and a 5-10 minute walk to the Charles Bridge. Room was comfortable (though a bit smaller than I thought it would be), breakfast was very good and people at front desk were helpful. Would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend eating at Stoletti Restaurant down the street.
Very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel was an oasis in the middle of a busy, noisy city. Despite being on a quiet street, you're only a block or two from main thoroughfares and city sights. There's a terrific restaurant/bar at the end of the block. (Chlupatyno Ducha) Very cheap beer and reasonably-priced food such as pizzas and soups. My wife and I also followed the Cloister Inn recommendation of Restaurant Stoleti, which is also just down the block. While upscale by Prague standards, the prices were very reasonable and the food and service were excellent. Hotel felt very safe and all staff was pleasant and attentive. I had the hotel arrange for airport pickup, which was inexpensive and on-time. A 5am departure back to the airport similarly presented no problems.
Stayed 7-11th Sept. Second time staying here. We were reassured reading the posts here again that by and large people remain pleased with the hotel and so do we We went to go to our room and were given directions to get out of lift on floor two, follow the red line in the carpet and take lift to 5th floor. Having read some comments on her about this part of the building we were a bit concerned about this. As you follow the line you have to go down a small set of stairs and along a long corridor, into a very small lift to floor the fourth floor and up a set of stairs to the fifth. This was troublesome with one very heavy suitcase. Note to self: next time bring two small suit cases! There was no view from the room as we looked out into a small enclosed space that held the lift. This wasn't a problem for us and this proved to be a quieter part of hotel and to be fair they try not to allocate these rooms to older guests. I recommend hotel to all my friends and family. Only fault: Hotel reception doesn't give a very warm welcome (Czech culture?) ie "Paula" and when checking out took key and grunted. (However very good at everything else)
We were looking for a centrally located, well priced, clean, contemporary property in the heart of Prague and found it in the Cloiser Inn. We especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet and friendly hotel staff. We look forward to returning to the Cloister Inn! Bonnie/Rhode Island
My wife and I have just had our 25yr anniversary trip to Prague, and stayed at The Cloister Inn Hotel We have no real complaints and really enjoyed our stay in Prague and the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and spoke a lot better English than I do Czech. We had an air-conditioned room on the 2nd floor that overlooked Konvikska Street, but rarely turned the air-conditioning on. The bed was comfortable enough, but after traipsing around town and up to the castle in the heat of the 17th-21st July I could have slept on a sheet of MDF!! The rooms were kept spotlessly clean, and the shower and towels were much in demand when getting back from town. The one small criticism I have is that the small fridge in the room was not kept stocked, and actually had very little in it in the way of spirits and liqeurs to start with (One miniature bottle of Jim Beam and one of Bailey's), and the Baileys was not replaced the following day after being consumed the previous evening. had to stick with real Bud, shame that!!! But there again, I should really being trying to find something to complain about , so Mr Vidimja (sorry if that is wrong) contacts me to offer me free accomodation!!! Breakfast was awesome, as much as you could eat, to set you up for the days adventure, and all fresh every day. The only people I saw sat in the corridor were people who were unwilling to sit at a table next to one already occupied, because the main dining room was never full when we were there. And we eat at various times. A recommended by other people, The Stoleti Restaurant just down the road is worth a visit, 2 drinks each, 2 maincourses and 2 sweets, under 600 crowns. Also found one called Restaurant Konvikt in Bartolomejska Street, in street behind the Cloisters, that was even better value, real Czech cooking and customers. Location of the hotel is brilliant, away from the bright lights and noisy trams (we spoke to one couple from New Zealand who had a non air-conditioned room, so had to leave windows open, only trouble was the trams start very early). There was no need to use public transport, but we did jump on a tram one day just for the experience. We made our own way to and from the airport, saving over a 1000 crowns, using bus 119 to the end of it's journey at Dejvicka metro station, then underground to Narodni, much more exiting than boring taxi. Public transport was spotless, bus, metro and trams. Would I visit Prague again, without a doubt, would I stay at the Cloister Inn again, YES, YES, YES. 4nights/£360 including mini-bar and laundry, I am not going to start complaning at them prices. Malcolm and Sandra
I'm surprised to have read several negative reviews! While I don't doubt that the travellers did have the probelms they specified, please keep in mind that most people who post reviews are people who have had negative experiences. So here I am, Cloister Inn--I got your back! First of all, the location is fabulous, but at the same time, it is SO QUIET! We loved that. I travelled with my dad in one room and me and my best girlfriend in the room next door. When we got there, it was too early to check in, but the staff kindly held our luggage in a luggage room for our convenience. Next, it is SO CLEAN! They offer a free tea bar in the lobby all the time, as well as free internet. While we were emailing home about our adventures, we'd have a cup of tea. It became a daily game to see how long it would take the staff to clean up our tea cups, saucers and spoons when we finished. I think the longest it took was like 40 seconds! My granny would have been proud! Next, I thought it was charming. We had to go all around Robin Hood's barn so to speak to get to our rooms, but I thought it was cool how the hotel had so many nooks & crannies. When we went into my dad's room, it was night and there was an eerie shadow of a giant hand on the wall. We opened the curtains and found out that he got the room that had a giant saint statue glued to the wall out on the street side. We thought that was very funny since he is man of the cloth! Breakfast: if you like Czechish food, it rocked! All kinds of stuff! Not only that, the breakfast room is really nice AND they were playing ABBA Gold on the speaker system!!! Lastly, I like how the management responds to the reviews. It shows they really care. It's the only hotel i've seen on here who do. You go, Cloister!!!
Our family of 7 stayed here in 3 rooms for one night at the end of our bicycle trip from Prague to Budapest. We wanted lodging close to the Old Town Center, the St. Charles Bridge, the Jewish Quarter, etc. at a reasonable price. The Cloister Inn fit that bill. It was a short walk through interesting side streets to the main plaza, where we watched the Czech Republic play USA in World Cup Soccer on several big screens amid lots of partying. But once we left the plaza, it was a very quiet and peaceful walk back to The Cloister Inn. We had a 7 a.m. flight out of Prague, and the staff had a 'to go" sack breakfast for each of us as we checked out early that morning. The hotel staff also arranged for our pick-up at the train station when we arrived in the afternoon, and our transport to the airport early the next morning. They really made our brief stay easy and pleasant. We would stay here again!
