Welcome !
The room was very clean, staff was very friendly. We were 3 women travelling alone and felt very safe in neighborhood and in hotel. There is some distance between the hotel and the closest metro station. Front desk staff know very english and free wireless only works in lobby.
The location is far from what discribed online. No friendly and competence of the staff, room is not clean and comfort.
The 1st impression being the reception desk it is a shocker. But by the 3rd day they were a bit more friendly and helpful. Having come from Vienna & Bratislava where the people are friendly this certainly hits you. The rooms were decent and toilets modern. The beds and pillows were good. One problem was the cigarette smell which is bad as you enter the room. The location to me was not very good. Particularly after a long walk around the city when you have to walk up the hill from the museum it is a pain. You could take a good 15 to 20 minutes and get quite tired. The tram station is also not so close and there are no bus halts around there. The only good thing is the road is straight from the museum and you can not get lost. The breakfast is good but as someone else also mentioned the fruits were missing.
There were 13 of us away for a hen weekend and we picked the City Club hotel through Easyjet. We didnt have high expectations of the hotel because the price we paid was below £100 for 2 nights, which included flights aswell. We were totally surprised with the quality of the rooms, especially the cleanliness. Top marks for the modern bathroom which were very spacious and clean. The walk to Wencelas Square (which is actually a huge street with tons of traffic) is downhill and takes between 15 to 20 mins depending on how fast you walk. The underground is very very cheap and there is a stop nearby. Failing that we paid between 80 - 200 for a taxi (about £2.50 to £6.50) so you need alot of negotiating for that! Wencelas square is approx 2km to the hotel. The breakfast was basic, but hey, there are plenty of places to grab food out, which was again very reasonable. There is so much to see and do there, and also shop! None of us spent more than £100 each in spending money, and we were out all day and night, so it is ideal for a great weekend away. We met lots of friendly people, however they were not Czech! It is true to say that their manners leave a little to be desired, especially taxi drivers, but dont let it spoil your trip, just laugh at them! You will not be disappointed with this hotel, 2 of us have loved it so much that we are going back again in August with our husbands.
Ok, this place was quite good. The prices are low and the place is easy to reach, not that far from city center (for the whole trip we didn't use buses or metro...just walk. Prague is quite small. The hotel is not far from the Museum and in the street u'll find a couple of pubs and lounge bars (I suggest u the "Last call", low prices and yummy cocktails!)Abt the hotel: quite comfy, the receptionists are always kind and helpful, they can change money if u need it and they have a small bar too. The breakfast room is not that big and always full of people so maybe u'll have to share ur table with someone u don't know, but who cares? The breakfast is more like a lunch. Ham, salami, different kinds of cheese, and omelette (with or without onions and sausages), eggs, breads, a couple of cakes, yogurts, cereals, orange juice, milk, coffeee, jams, butter...and the same old stuff. No fresh fruit...but i think it's not a problem, I mean...I didn't miss it! The room was not that big just a double bed, a couple of mirrors, a wardrobe a small desk and the bathroom...no bidet at all. Well, I know it's normal outside Italy...but it's always something I miss! They r quite clean, and change ur towels every day, clean up the room and make ur bed even if u don't ask for it. Plus they have a lot of rooms to make up so even if u leave ur room at 2pm (especially if u r on the 5th floor or higher)u'll be lucky enough to have ur room made up. Our room had two windows and I had a view of the courtyard, shared with a school and some offices that have windows right in front of the hotel so, for ur privacy, u would like to keep ur courtains closed. The only thing I didn't like is that the hotel accepts school groups. Sooooooo u will hear quick steps in the middle of the night, phone rings and noises and all those things that awake ur killer instinct. lol That's it...I'd definitely suggest it to my friends.
I stayed at this hotel with my parents and we were unsure what to expect after reading some of the reviews on here but it was actually not bad at all. I will start with the location. Ok, not the nearest hotel to the city centre but if you are willing to trudge around a city all day then the perfect way to start is with the 15 minute walk from the hotel to the city centre which will wake you up and get your legs moving - it is a straight road all the way so you can't get lost either. There is a metro station (IP Pavlova) about 7 minutes away from the hotel too. I agree with some other reviews that the reception staff are not exactly the friendliest people in the world but they weren't exactly horrible either and they didn't make us feel like we weren't welcome (although they weren't exactly trying to be our best friends either). Having previously worked as a reception manager for 3 years in a big Holiday Inn in Newcastle I put it down to lack of customer service training - its no big deal though so don't let that put you off. The bedrooms were a fair size and decorated as you would expect but the bathroom was very modern and a decent size for what you need (word of advice though, the mixer tap for the shower is not in a very good place and one wrong move can make the temperature change in a snap - but you get used to it and manoeuvre yourself around it). Everyday the bedroom was cleaned and we got fresh towels even though we hung them up (which usually means we will use them again) and the bed was remade with fresh linen. However, where this hotel hits the mark is with its breakfast. The breakfast room (in the basement) is light and airy and very welcoming and has a great selection of typical European breakfast items but also offers some hot food including sausages and a very nice scrambled egg with bacon in it which was perfect in the morning on toast and something you don't see that often in the EU. All in all the hotel was pleasant, in a fairly decent location, clean and offered a great breakfast. I would give this 3 out of 5 but am giving it an extra star purely for the breakfast!
Just back from the city club. found the hotel to be basic but good value for money can't fault reception staff as they were very helpful in anything asked of them. Hotel was always kept clean. i.p pavlova metro station 5 minute walk away and the whole city is in reach. 100 crowns (about £3) will get you a 24 hour ticket for unlimited travel on the metro, trams and buses. can't beat it excellant value for money only downside was the groups of schoolkids raiding all the breakfast things to make packed lunches leaving not very much for everyone else, the staff did do their best to keep everything topped up. If you want to do a tour stay well away from martin tours as their staff are very rude and extremely unhelpful. we did a river tour with them and the german guide on board made us feel like a bunch of schoolkids being told to sit down, and no talking and only listening to him. Will definately be back to prague as the tour did not put us off, would stay at the city club again but will certainly not be using martin tours.
Quality stay in Prague for a few nights, loads to do, only thing I would say is stay away from hotel staff as much as you can. Rude!!!!!!!!!!!!
we have just come back from my birthday weekend. we found the city club hotel to be very clean and warm, as outside it was freezing! we had a back room which was very quiet, but the rooms facing the road were noisey, the staff were off hand, but all the cheqs seem to be like that, i dont think they like brits at all. it is the third time i have been in prague and it wont be the last. there is so much to do. the hotel is close to the metro and the trams and you can walk to the centre easily. rooms are large and the beds are comfy. breakfasts are good but take teabags as theirs are too weak. no complaints, would go back to the city club again. there were 7 of us in our group and we stayed 3 nights, just got back last monday, 18th feb 2008.
Stayed there from 14th-16th February 2008 for Spurs game. Pleasantly surprised. Nice, spacious room. New bathroom/shower. Nice breakfast area with a large choice - sausage/egg, cereal, fruit, rolls, baguettes, selection of cheeses and Ham; toaster, juice, tea/coffee etc. We found it to be excellent value [£15 per room per night in total].
After reading some of the comments on this hotel we were a bit scared of what we were going into. However, when we checked in & went to our room all our fears dissapeared. The room was quiet large & clean. The staff were ok. The location wasnt bad, although the walk back to the hotel is all uphill. Breakfast were ok although the choice was not great & was the same everyday. We were quiet lucky that our room was in the back courtyard so was very quiet. We would definatly go back to this hotel again.
After reading the reveiews before visting Prague, I would have liked to come back saying how wrong the comments were and what a fantastic hotel this was. Although my girlfriend and I had a nice weekend away, I'm affraid all those negative comments about the City Club were all true. The staff are RUDE, FROSTY and haven't got a clue how to treat guest. We arrived Saturday evening and had already pre booked our taxi from the airport to the City Club. The reception staff, dressed in shell suit tracksuits welcomed us with a grunt and gave us our room key. No mention of 'have a nice stay' or 'welcome to the city club'. We were on the 6th floor attic room with a view of the sky! Nevertheless the room was nice and clean, with a smart modern shower room. Breakfast was very much the usual bread rolls and toast etc and the coffee was lovely (apart from having to wait for cups!). The location is about a 20 minutes walk from the main square, it's a good walk but felt quite unsafe at night. Prague itself was a mixture of old and new, with splendid churches and buildings ....mixed with fast food outlets. Martin Tours offer good value excursions, and the U Prince pavement restuarant is worth a visit. I wouldn't really say that Prague is amazingly cheap though, and I didn't really feel safe walking the streets at night. We felt that the locals were rather frosty, and there were quite alot of homeless people begging in the street. Overall Prague is a nice place to stay and we had a nice weekend away and a change of scene. However, it wouldn't really be a place I'd go back to! We handed in our key and that was it! No 'Hope you had a nice stay' or 'have a safe journey home'!
Hotel was very clean, big rooms, staff helpfull, very cheap and good located. I was surprised by hotel after reading all reviews here.
After reading some of the reviews on here, we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel as I was part expecting a hotel from hell! On the contrary, clean decent sized rooms, we were fortunate to have a room on the inside courtyard so no traffic noise. Breakfast plentiful, some items a bit hit and miss but enough to choose from - the main breakfast room was a bit small though and although there was another little area of tables around the corner, nobody was aware of it as the surly staff didn't think to mention it to anyone! The staff would be my only slight niggle. I wouldn't go as far as rude but somewhat cold (as we found many people in tourist Prague to be) and very bad at coping with a coachload arriving at once - you think they'd be used to it, being a budget hotel! The lady at reception was visibly flapped by the arrival of our party of 30 and treated us like cattle. Saw her acting in the same manner when checking in other groups also. The spacious reception area and bar were ideal for us all to meet up as a group. The staff were happy to leave us to it, no matter what hour of day or night and the drinks were not too badly priced either. Easy enough to get into the centre of Prague but it is a long walk back uphill after a tiring day (or night!) out. Highly recommend Banditos Mexican Restaurant, near IP Pavlova station. Gorgeous food and the friendliest service we had all weekend!
The location of this hotel is great, its a relatively short cab ride to the airport, and is an easy walk to all of the sights in central Prague. The rooms are alright, nothing special, but certainly nothing that warrants any complaint. Sadly, the staff let the place down dramatically. They were surly and rude, and to be quite frank, totally incompetent. We booked in as a group of 8, two of which were leaving a night earlier. The receptionist was irritable the moment we walked through the door, found it hard to understand that some of us were leaving earlier than the others, and then managed to make a complete hash of the check into our rooms (as we discovered when we checked out). On checking out, we were told that we owed them for another nights stay. She then proceeded to show me the booking request from the agent, which contradicted her claim that we owed them for another night, as they had (despite us repeatedly stating this at check in) failed to register that our two guests had left the night before. She stood up and screamed that she would phone the police if we didn't pay, and had her gnome like male companion stare at us threateningly as she continued to demand payment for their mistake. We stated very clearly that we had paid in full, and they were free to phone the police if they wished. I was really disappointed. If the staff behaved like actual human beings, I'd recommend this hotel for anyone after a no frills hotel with good access to the city centre. After receiving the treatment that we did, I'd recommend it to no-one.
My best friend and I (both 18 year olds) stayed at City club, and loved it! The staff were very helpful, rooms small, but very clean. We had requested a twin room yet we arrived and it was a double, not that it bothered us too much, however i mentioned it to the hotel staff and they were more then happy to seperate our beds, without any fuss. They also recomedded a itailian restrant around the corner when we asked the receptionist of near by resterants. It did not look like much from the outside but the most amazing food! for very very cheap for 2 people who had starters, main course and coffee cost 18 pounds in all! I would definaly suggest investing in the safes, they are so cheap only 50 a day (about 1 pound), just for the extra security, great value! It is less then 15 minutes to Wencelus square a little bit longer walking back up as its uphill!!! Its a little bit far from places like old town however taxis are cheap and the trams are easily acessiable. Make sure if you use taxis you use the AAA company, they are obligated to charge you a fair amount part of a sceme run by the council, as there are many taxi firms who dupe the tourists into extutionate amounts, however they are all not perfect so if you think you have been charged unfair prince get a reciept and call AAA. however we had no problems, taxis are very very cheap! For 2 18 year old girls i felt incredibly safe walking alone around prague, wencelus square is safe. Dont feel scared if you see big men on corners, they are trying to get stag parties in the strip joints!!! (so our taxi driver said) and never bothered us. Everyone was friendly! Be careful of restrants giving you 'free food' at the start of your meal, sometimes isnt free, our taxi driver warned us, to ask at all times if we were given anything. It happened once, at the itailian that i recommened earlier, however we asked and it wasnt free yet only about 20p extra, so nothing to worry about!! For the price of the hotel i was extremely impressed, i have heard that the breakfast is not good however we were never up early enough to eat it! For a short break on a budget this is a fanastic hotel! Loved it!
Great hotel. The rooms are a little hot and noisy but after a few beers and all the walking it didn’t affect our sleep! The bathrooms are very clean which is always what I look for, and the rooms were neat and tidy with a TV. No Iron or Hairdryer but plenty of plug sockets if you tae your own. The buffet breakfast is ok, but not great and the tea is horrible so stick to the coffee. No toaster for my jam on toast! The Hotel is just in walking distance to explore the whole city on foot, although make sure you wear comfy shoes and be prepared for sore shins on the way home! If you can get one try to get a City Spy map www.cityspy.info, as it was very detailed and we didn’t get lost once (well maybe slightly when I was in charge!). Tram number 6 stops around the corner, about 5 minutes away, but we mainly walked everywhere. The tram tickets can be brought from Newsagents for about 50p and they are valid for 90min from when you 1st use them, you can also use them on the funicular. Overall a good basic cheap hotel choice for a few nights in a great city! Id stay again, (maybe with earplugs).
A bit dubious after reading the mixed reviews, but clean and plenty of hot water, towels changed every day. Plenty of choice at breakfast, although you should take your own tea bags! Staff were as friendly as any other Czechs we met and we thoroughly enjoyed our first stay in Prague. Would not hesitate to re book this hotel, which is only 5 minutes walk from tram stop and 10 from Wenceslas Square
A few mates and myself went to prague for a few days on a cheap lads holiday. This is a gem of a hotel tucked away just out off the beaten track. Great price with basic but clean rooms. Nice cheap little bar (the Radio bar ) is just next door so its good to get a quick one in on the way out for an evening. All in all this holiday was off the hook. We had a great time and made many new friends, such as Hazeem
Booked this hotel via easyjet @ £39 per room per night. We were a bit dubious, but wanted something cheap and cheerful, so took a risk. We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are a good size, beds are also a decent size and comfortable. The rooms were always spotlessly clean, as were the bathrooms. Showers good with plenty of hot water. We had a room on the front of the hotel - it is on a main road, and gets very noisy from traffic. This was a bit of a problem as it was so hot, and windows needed to be open. Our friends had a room on the back of the hotel and this was much quieter. The breakfast is fine - usual stuff with frankfurter sausages, scrambled egg, bread, jam, hams/cheese etc. Fruit drinks are weak, but tea ok if you use 2 teabags. As stated in other reviews, staff are a bit off hand, and dont exactly ,make you feel welcome, but we found that often to be the case in lots of places in Prague. The hotel is a good ten minute walk to Wencelas square, but I'm unsure where the hill is that some people have mentioned - it is more of a gentle slope. If you want a good meal with cheap drinks near to the hotel, there is a bar called Legenda located in a side street approx two blocks before the hotel (on left as come up road from town centre). Steaks are excellent, and drinks cheap, We walked everywhere in Prague and never caught a taxi (too wary of being ripped off - this is common place in Prague). We were told to agree a price before getting in and not to pay above 1500 kc for journeys within the city centre (advise from east German taxi driver who picked us up from the airport) By the end of the holiday, my feet were burning from all the walking, but it was well worth it. Prague is a beautiful city. We found souvenirs, clothes etc to be quite expensive. but food, and drink to be quite cheap. There were 6 of us in our group (couples) and we all had a great time and would definately go back. We would stay at this hotel again as it is good value for money.
Stayed here three nights midweek, just got back, Hotel clean, comfortable and good value for money. Breakfast european style (never seen a toaster!) good range and variety. Beds made daily and clean towels supplied daily. Even on busy road area was quiet, a good nights sleep assured after a day's walking the streets and allyway's sightseeing. Recomended as short break we will be returning again.... The title refers to the challenge of working out the network of public transportation from the Airport to the hotel, A ticket is bought from a kiosk in the Airport foyer, this gives a ticket for travelling on any form of public transport for a fixed period of time 75 minutes for 20ck. We took bus 100 to it's terminus, changed to the underground (METRO) on line 'B' (YELLOW) we travelled to station called 'FLORENC' , there changed to 'Metro' line 'C' (RED) to I.P. Pavlova. Exit station turn left walk to second set of traffic lights (watch for mad motorists!!!!!) turn left and you are on your street keep walking the hotel is on the left near the end of the street just past Radio Bar. as we said worth the effort enjoy!
Room robbed each day at breakfast time, take everything of value with you, Reception request far to much personnal information try not to fill to much in for Identity thefit. Room always left in tack. They work as a team rob you and smile in your face at the same time. 350 sterling and bank card the next day hidden in linning. they had the rest of my life on paper at reception for ID fraud. Be on your guard at all times. leave nothing of value in the room at all. Police station is a few yards down the same street waste of time they would like to put you in a cell for bad publicity. Good Luck
We were a party of 10 from Bedlington nr Newcastle celebrating Vance & Graham's 50th Birthday.Well behaved guys enjoying the local hospitality and brewed products. Hotel newly refurbished with really clean rooms, friendy staff & a very good buffet breakfast . I'll be back to show the lovely city to my wife.
Prague is lovely but this hotel is far too far from everything. It was over 30 degrees which I am not complaining about. You have to spend a fortune in taxis to get to where things are. The hotel was clean , on a very busy road but it was the staff that put us off sooooooooooo rude .
Free internet in the hotel Very poor breakfast, chamdermaid almost didn't clear the room
Stayed at the hotel for two nights, very clean and tidy, the rooms had new carpets and fitted bathroom. Very impressive for the price. We booked 9 rooms and they were all the same, only bad thing was the breakfast.
Just had to write a review after staying at this hotel for a few days. After reading some of the reviews prior to going was not sure what to expect. Very easy to get to, and only 10 mins walk to IP Pavlova Station where you get off from the Airport, plus a lot of the trams went from here to the Old Town, Mala Strana and the Castle. Walked everywhere the first day, did Wencelas Square, round by Old Town, Charles Bridge and just over that to Mala Strana and back along the river. Trams are very easy though 22/23 takes you most places that we wanted to go. Hotel was pleasant, room was clean and bathroom big and clean with a lovely hot shower!! Breakfast was plentiful, hot and cold items, enough for anyone unless you are really fussy. Coffee not so great though!! Fruit juice just tasted like water. But to be honest we paid very little for this hotel and would rather stay here again than pay for a more expensive hotel just to be a bit closer to town centre. We were out all day and all evening so no point in paying for a 5* hotel if you are only there to sleep. Area not very pretty though, so if its a view you want then better to go closer to town!! Would definately stay here again and i am sure we will be going back to Prague as we had such a great time!! The food and beer are fantastic!!
As this hotel was so so cheap I really wasn't expecting very much, but I can gladly say I was very pleasantly surprised! Really didnt have any complaints whatsoever. The general level of cleanliness high, good sized room, comfy beds, the heating worked well so were kept nice and warm. So it really was quite welcoming on our tired selves after doining lots and lots of walking exploring this stunning city. Thouroughly enjoyed our stay here, and would highly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Prague on a budget.
Three of us guys recently stayed at the City Club hotel for two nights. We were over for the Ajax v Sparta UEFA cup game (we are English Ajax supporters). We thought the hotel was great, especially for what we paid. We booked through the easyjet hotels website. Our room was very spacious and clean with nice comfortable beds. The shower room/toilet was very clean. The shower water was hot and powerful. The heating was also very good as Prague was quite cold when we were there. The only minus point was that our in-room safe did not work and could not be fixed. Breakfast was very good and plentiful with the usual European fare. We found the reception staff very helpful and friendly. They were two lovely lasses that worked the day and night shift and they helped us with info about getting around the city - which I might add is very easy when you get the hang of it. Another plus point is that the hotel bar stays open 24 hours - nice one! The city club hotel is about 10 - 15 mins walk away from the nearest metro station (Pavlova) and is not that far from the main city attractions. In fact, around the Pavlova station area are some nice bars and restaurants some that stay open until 4am and as these bars were just outside of the main tourist area the beers were very cheap at around 50 to 60 English pence a pint!! Quality!! There is also a nice bar right next to the hotel but this shuts around midnight. One minus point ( but this depends on your point of view) is that this hotel is right at the end of the street that it sits in and it's uphill. You pass many other hotels in the same street that are nearer to the station and indeed the city center and also look rather nice. On the subject of public transport, a 24 hour travel ticket costs an amazing 80 crowns or just 2 ENGLISH POUNDS, and that covers the entire metro system and trams. God, if only London was like this. On summing up, if I return to Prague with my mates we would certainly consider staying at the City Club hotel again. However, myself and my wife are going to Prague this April and we are staying at the Tivoli hotel which I spotted when I was there and is right next to the Pavlova metro station. I will post a review of this hotel on my return. Just want to add one last thing - Prague itself was WICKED.
clean spacious room lots clean towels bit noisy at weekend staff bit unfriendly but overall good .long haul up from main sq
We stayed at the hotel (me and my mom) for 4 nights. The best thing in the hotel is it's location- very convenient, about 10 min. of straight walking from IP Pavlova station on the red line of the metro. In the other hand- the whole area is stuffed with hotels, and I suspect that we could find much better place for the money we paid. The hotel is situated in a very old house- the advantage- amazing heating system in the living room, the disadvantage- squeaking floor, bad smell in the rooms. The house itself is on a busy road- luckily our room was surrounded by other walls of the hotel from all sides - we only saw these walls, but at least the room was somewhat quiet- don't want to think what would be if we would get a window to the road... Anyway it didn't save us from hearing everything that happened in the coridore... The receptionist tried to pretend to be nice, but it didn't work so well- it felt like you dared to bother a very busy person who leaves the most important issues in the world to solve your stupid problems. The maid amazed me too- when we came back to the room at the time when she was supposed to "clean" our room, and sat in the room in underwear- she knocked the door once, didn't wait for an answer, opened the door widely, didn't listen when we asked her to come back later, changed the towels and went off... The cleaning system in the hotel is pretty strange... they clean only so it will look clean, but if you look closer, you see that the carpets are being vaacumed maybe once a month, everything is full of dust, and the bedclothes full of holes. The breakfast room is poor- unmatching tables, chairs and cutlery, and pretty cold. The food- the impression is that they try to save every penny possible- the bread is the cheapest and few days old, and coming out of a freezer, without even letting it thaw... the omelet is full of egg pills, the coffee and the tee- do not touch if you care for your life!!!!!!!! Oh, and the matresses squeak with every breath you take at night... But despite of all the minuses, if you find a really good deal on the hotel (as we did) and plan to come to the hotel only to sleep, it is fine. Just be careful at the breakfast- choose only things that nobody can destroy - even those on charge of breakfast at the city club hotel prague.
Booked a short trip to Prague, and were booked in the City Club by the travel operator. Arrived at about 10.30pm, and were not impressed with the surly receptionist. However, the two others working on the desk on the days after were helpful and friendly. The room was small but functional; the beds were made every day although not changed. The room was at the front of the building, and was quite noisy as the hotel is situated on a busy main road. The breakfast was uninspiring but sufficient: cereals and yogurt, bread and jams, sausages, meat and cheese. Drinks were coffee, tea and some kind of fruit squash instead of the preferred fruit juices. The hotel is ten minutes walk from Wencelas Square, and, as Prague is a fairly small city, an within easy reach of everywhere else you could want to go (we walked everywhere). The walk back to the hotel seemed to get longer each day, but can be made more bearable with a stop in Radio Bar next door! City Club is certainly recommended due to the ease of getting into the centre of Prague. It was clean and comfortable, and certainly didn't ruin our enjoyment of this beautiful city.
Booked this as a birthday treat. Great walking down to the sights but a slow walk back as up hill( not over it just yet.)Hotel a nice suprise. Not much to look at outside but inside rooms spacious and clean. Breakfast basic continental, but plentiful, enough to keep you going through till lunchtime,or till you reach your first cake shop of the day!. Would agree on high prices of taxis but prepare to haggle. All tourist sights within easy walking distance (NO HEALS) as lots of cobbled paths. Would recommend for people on weekend breaks and a tight budget.
A clean hotel about 10 mins walk from the centre of prague. The room was spacious. However the staff were most unfriendly, and seemed to be working with taxi drivers to rip tourist off. My adivce is to bargin with them never except first price even in the hotel. While in prague stay away from the main squares and you will find the cheap prices we got beer for 30p and Volka for 60p. Overall a fine hotel for a lads weekend dont expect much service though.
My family and I stayed at this hotel for the period 1/1/06 to 04/01/06 having been allocated this hotel by the Hotel Venezia which true to form stated there were problems with our room and we had to go elsewhere. Nevertheless the City Club was an adequate replacement, our room was a cramped four bed room situated on the sixth floor in what obviously was a converted attic room with only a Velux window for ventilation and obviously no view. The room itself was very hot and even when it wAs freezing outside we had to use the fan provided. The room itself was supposed to be a no smoking room but smelt strongly of smoke also the carpet had areas where chewing gum had been rubbed into it. The bathroom was small with no bath just a shower cubicle, wc and washbasin but adequate and I presume you had to get up very early to get more than the tepid water we always got.On the plus side there were plenty of fresh towels which were changed daily. Breakfast as remarked on by several correspondents is basic continental fayre, three sorts of cold meats, cheeses, cereal, two sorts of yoghurt and two sorts of czech brEad with assorted preserves. There was no fresh juices just over diluted cordial drinks together with coffe from an urn and hot water dispensed from a similar urn onto teabags provided. Everyday there seemed to be a lack of tables for the guests and staff seemed loathe to open an ancillary dining room. All in all an average hotel which I would probably not use again but its position only a fifteen minute walk to Wencelas Square makes it in some respects worth considering for a family on a tight budget. I have found recently you get what you pay for and as a great many visitors to this beautiful city will be arriving on budget airlines such as Jet2 as we did, I suggest spending some of your savings on a higher rated hotel. Prague itself is wonderful and its small compact size means all but the lame and very lazy can walk easily to all its most famous sights. The old town merges imperceptively into the Old Town which morphs into the former Jewish quarter. There is such no need to buy one of the 100 crown adult day rover tickets. One word of caution entrance fees to sights such as the Jewish Cemetary (which granted does also include five other related sights) can be quite dear. For a family of four it would cost nearly 25 pounds similarily if one was to pay to see every sight in the Castle grounds it would entail a similar fee which does seem a lot when the average Czech earns only £300 a month. However there are many beautiful buildings and architecture which can be seen for free such as the wonderful Old Town square and the ancient mechanical clock there. Finaly eating out is fairly cheap but beware or like us you can end up with a main course with no potatoes or vegetables as they had to be ordered as a side order. Beers are vey cheap around 25 crowns for a half litre and a warming hot chocolate laced with rum is a much appreciated bargain at less than a pound.
Married couple who stayed at the City Club for two nights B&B, 5th & 6th September. I agree that the outside of the Hotel doesn't look much like it's online photograph - I was expecting something like a secluded, leafy cul-de-sac not door off the main road. However, hotel is good basic fare. Friendly and helpful staff, basic but clean rooms - better and cleaner than many English hotels for this price. We were on the second floor at the back of the hotel and were not disturbed at all by traffic or other noise outside the hotel. Breakfast is basic but that's what we expected - bread, cold meat, hot dogs, cereal and a selection of drinks - it was good enough to see us through to lunchtime. Walk to the top of Wenceslas Square is only about 15 minutes and then a further 15 minutes to the old town square, and we weren't hurrying.
Stayed for a long weekend there for my birthday recently and I'll give you a quick round up. Staff - Very helpful and pleasant, nice friendly people. Rooms - Ok for us, we were in the roof with a skylight with no blind and it was very hot - had a fan though and all we needed was a bed for the night so it was fine. Breakfast - skip it. It's a continental breakfast, so those looking for the full english need to look elsewhere. Getting a full english, non-continetal breakfast is a toughie in prague - I'd recommend Bohemia Bagels on the Prague Castle side of town or at a push MCDonalds if you must. Location - 5 mins walk from Pavlova, 15 mins walk from Wenceleslas Square - not bad at all, anyone saying longer than that is 1 leg short, 3 foot tall or just lazy. Other items of note for Prague: PragueCard and Prague Passport - no one in the metro stations knew what this was or how to use it - it's supposed to grant 3 days travel on the entire public transport system in Prague, but it's no good if no one knows what it is. Also the discounts aren't well explained in the discount book - there's one for a blacklight theatre show, they don't tell you that there at least 5 simultaneous showso n at various locations - so be careful you get the right one. Also included are discounts for a Prague Castle - it is not THE prague castle, but a fortress called Vyeshrad further south. Transport - we actually found walking around to be fine at all times of day so decided not to use the transport system at all, following problems with the 3 day travel booklet mentioned previously. Credit Cards - plenty of ATMs and banks with indoor ATMs accessible via your card to unlock the door. BUT, make sure you have cash as lots of places, even restaurants, don't take ANY form of card. Restaurants - fantastic food, very cheap, a very good 3 course meal for two cost less than £25. Restaurants tend to be accessible from a doorway in the main street only, you then follow a short corridor and take stairs down to one of the many converted wine cellars that have become restaurants in prague. The food is great, cheap, staff are good - brilliant. Tipping - a general rule is, if the bill comes as a nice round number, thy've already done it, otherwise add a little bit, don't go overboard and check the bill says 'service not included' as required. Worth visiting? Damn right - good hotel, good location, good food, have a good time! :oD
The Hotel City-Club is a decent 3 star hotel on the outskirts of the main part of the city. Rooms are a good size (those at the front can be a tad noisy) with good en-suites. Desk staff very helpful though it takes ages to get your room if a large group is checking in as there's often only one person on the desk and the security guy won't even take your card key to put in your pigeon hole. Breakfast is a continental self-serve with a good variety of cold food, cereals, bread and jams/honey. If you have a car the entrance to the garage is very very tight, take care. Only disadvantage is that walking back from the centre of Prague is a haul as it's all uphill and the cobbles can be hard on the feet. Nearest metro, Pavlova, is a 5 - 10 minute walk. I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel but would advise that if you're going to book car hire, DON'T use Alimex.
Went on a hen night to Prague in April, (we were one of very few groups of girls)!!. hotel was easy to check in although when we arrived all rooms turned out to be doubles instead of twin so we had to have them (comically) separated and by separated the maid meant half and inch! Can be a problem if you dont want to get that close to your mates. Very clean and well kept, excellent ensuite for what it cost. Only downside was some of the girls on reception who could do with a few lessons in politness but night receptionist was great and was always on hand to open a bottle of wine or two!! Overall if you're on a budget holiday with a big group the hotel is ideally located, short walk to town or hotel will glady phone you a taxi. Very good value for money.
Arrived 11 am after travelling all night, only to be told we could not enter our rooms until 4 pm. No lounge to relax in. 30 minutes walk to Wenceclas Square. On returning we were given a room in the 'dungeons', (ie. wine cellars) with a small high barred window leading out on to the bottom of a 'well'. So dark we needed the lights on day and night and had to go outside to check the weather. It took two days to get a decent room after complaining, although the desk clerk was sympathetic! Breakfast plentiful but same every day.
This hotel is recommended. The rooms are basic but clean tidy which is the main thing. The staff are friendly and even helped me out with headache tablets after I overdid it on the local brew. It's about 10 - 15 minutes walk to Wenceslass Square which is easy to find from the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.
Stayed at the City Club end September 2004 with half a dozen mates, no problems at all, Breakfast was basic but plentiful, rooms were again basic but clean and cheap, staff were as helpful as they could be. 30min walk to Old Town Square, 15 mins walk to central railway station. Definitely stay again without any concerns.
having visted Prague regularly and stayed in several hotels in the city, Hotel City Club rates among the top for Value for Money and customer service. All of the group we took to Prague in December 2003 intend to return and stay in the hotel in 2004. The reception staff, particularly the night receptionist, Petra, were extremely helpful and courteous and thier willingness to assist in every aspect of our stay made the whole experience of Prague in Winter and the Christmas Markets even more magical.
Unsafe Prague Hotel!!!! Unsafe Prague Hotel: While in Prague in July 2003 a group of 21 students and three teachers stayed at the Hotel City Club, and all our rooms were robbed. We checked in at 4PM and left at 6PM to go to dinner, when we returned at 9PM 6 rooms had valuables (camera, money, CD players, CD, change,....) stolen. The rooms were NOT broken into but rather keys were used to get in. We had our room keys with us so we presummed it was someone that worked there that robbed us. Also two other people staying at the hotel had valuables stolen from the hotel safe at the same time! The desk clerk and manager did nothing but laugh at us and said they were not responsible for any loss. We checked out the next day and filed a police report, and of course months later the police were not able to solve anything. Avoid the Hotel City Club at Sokolska 10, 12000, Praha 2
Good location for visiting all the attractions of Prague. Rooms clean and warm, bathroom clean and quite roomy. Breakfast typically Eastern European but plenty of it. Hotel staff helpful. Radio bar right next door. Other bars and restaurants within 5 mins walk. Pavlova metro station 8 mins walk. Tram stop just by Pavlova station. Easy to get around, buy a 3 day travel pass (about 8 euro) entitles you to travel on all 3 modes of transport. try some of the micro breweries. I'd stay there again.
We booked this hotel through Easy Jet because it was cheap. What a mistake to make. The staff are the rudest people I have ever met, the hotel is cheap yes, and clean, but grim. So grim it was quite frightening I would not advise anyone to stay there if they want a decent break. It was noisy, cold and the doors were not secure at all. It is quite a way from the city and there is nothing to do there in the evening. The bar has about three Mars Bars and a Bottle of Water behind it, very very basic. Everything is too much trouble for the staff, when we asked to be served we were met with big sighs and they certainly do not like the English. We are two couples in our fifies and we were treated like we had just crawled out of the skirting board. Never again. I think Easy Jet should take this hotel off their books it was absolutely appalling. It was like staying in a third world country and a totally frightening experience.
Some 15 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square (up hill on the way back). Rooms simple but quiet and comfortable. Plumbing a little aged. Reception staff helpful, limited bar and refreshments available. Breakfasts plentiful but with limited choice and lacking fresh fruit. Only scented teas available and no decaffeinated coffee.
Great hotel in the centre of Prague. Excellent value. Would definitely return!
Stayed for three nights (December 28th to 31st). Room was very clean and comfortable. Had a family room in the annex (206) which was fine but had to go out in the cold to go to the main hotel for breakfast. Though it was only 30 metres it meant putting on coats as it was -4 degrees outside most of the time. Breakfast was the usual continental with frankfurters, cheese, cold meat, bread, jam, coffee, fruit juice. It was buffet style and there was plenty to choose from. Hotel only 5 minutes from the nearest metro or 15 from the Museum. Good choice of restuarants and pubs within 5-10 minutes walk. Total journey time to and from airport via metro and 119 bus is less then one hour and only costs K20 (£0.50). Would happily use again and would recommend
We stayed in this hotel 16-20 December. Had huge room, well furnished, very clean and well decorated, as was the rest of the hotel. Clean towels every day. Very comfortable beds, slept like a log. Central heating very efficient, which was just as well, as it was freezing outside and snow for three days! Thermostats on radiators, so choose your own temperature. Only downside with room was that we faced inside, so could only see three other walls!! Not much of a problem in winter, but would not have been very happy in summer months. As previously stated, breakfast was pretty abysmal, but functional. Having stayed in Prague before (in a different hotel) the breakfast there was terrific so were disappointed, but having said that, we paid considerably less this time. Would recommend the hotel as very easy to get around. It was about five minutes walk to IP Pavlova metro station and also trams. Could walk to Wenceslas Square in about 15 minutes. Bought a three day transport ticket (trams, metro, buses, funicular railway) for approximately £5, superb value for money. Chrtistmas markets were lovely and the snow just made it perfect! The Christmas trees and decorations were brilliant. Prague is a very beautiful city, very easy to get around either on public transport or on foot. It is really worth the trip up to Petrin Hill, wonderful views of the city and again in the snow, magic! Food and drink is also very cheap and of very good quality. Had some wonderful meals at almost unbelievable prices. This was our second trip to Prague, but most certainly not our last!!
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. - Rooms: basic but clean and of good size for the price. We asked for a double and got two twins pushed together but that was ok. We asked for a quiet room on the back of the hotel and that’s what we got. Very quiet room. Heating was working fine – important as it was freezing outside (December). Clean bathroom with shower. Towels changed everyday. - Breakfast: very basic but cheap as included in room rate. Buffet consisted of bread, corn flakes, hot drinks, terrible orange juice, terrible sausage and cheese. We felt that waitresses were hurrying us and wanted to remove our dishes quickly! - Reception staff: we thought they were not cheerful or smiling. We stayed 7 nights and for instance no one asked us on check-out if everything had been ok during our stay. - Location: in the Nove Mesto (new town) – just a 15 mins walk from Wenceslas Square. Next metro stop I.P. Pavlova: 10 mins walk. Next tram stop: 5 mins walk. For what we paid (just 52 Euros per night) we were very satisfied.
