reasonably easy to get to the centre of Prague fittings in bathroom tried to be too trendy, but were really quite cheap. Very expensive for what was offered. Valet parking was very expensive - about £35 a night, but absolutely necessary as nowhere else to park
We stayed at the 987 for 3 nights at the beginning of June. Our room, #106, was small and the bathroom setup was a little awkward/inconvenient. The space is essentially one room, with the shower and the toilet in separate orange, plexi-glass closets with the sink in the middle. This whole bathroom setup is maybe 5 feet from the bed. I wouldn't recommend this setup for anyone other than couples.
I've just spent 3 nights at the 987 and had a wonderful stay. I think the previous reviewer must have caught the place at a bad time. The hotel is modern with some nice design touches in both the rooms and the public areas. Our superior room on 5th floor was comfortable and a pretty decent size. The shower is worth noting, lovely slate tiling and a shower head like a dinner plate. My only complaint about the room is that the curtains let quite a bit of light in at the sides, but hardly a major issue. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful. Throught our stay they sorted out an iron, a network cable, a travel plug and several taxis. Breakfast is self-service continental, with some bacon and eggs on the side if you want it. The bar, whilst small, is great if you want to enjoy a drink outside. The location is pretty good too. Very near the station if you need it and only about a 10min walk to the Powder Tower and the start of the main tourist areas. All in all, a well priced, friendly hotel.
I decided to stay in this hotel based on the reviews from this website, oh my god was I wrong to! I really wanted a nice hotel and nice service as was bringing my boyfriend for his birthday; I booked an executive room for a higher price thinking this would be lovely. When we arrived, we were brought to this tiny room which was grubby with marks all over the walls, figuring they made a mistake I went back down to be told the hotel is fully booked and that was an executive room, I asked to see a standard room thinking it could not be any smaller and was shown a standard room that was still not great but better quality than the other room, after much persuasion they let us change rooms. Next was the food, we ordered a ham and cheese sandwich in the bar (which is also miniscule) and we got 2 slices ob bread with horrible cheap ham and melted cheese which had obviously been stuck in the microwave and both bottoms of the bread were soggy with condensation, the breakfast wasn’t much better, the usual croissants etc with fatty greasy bacon. Then we move onto the ‘lovely’ staff, I asked them to call a taxi for us to which I got a curt response saying ‘you phone yourself’, we asked for restaurant recommendations to which they had none, they nearly messed up our tour booking by giving us the wrong pick up time, only I double checked as I was sure they would mess it up, when we were checking out I explained how unhappy I was to which a rude employee named ‘Lucie’ basically didn’t give a toss, I was charged for the so-called executive room even though we didn’t stay in it, I asked to speak to a manager to be told there was non on duty and I could send an email if I wished! Overall they were rude, unhelpful and it was far from a 4 star hotel! It didn’t ruin our trip but I would hate for someone else to have the experience we had from this horrible horrible excuse for a hotel!
What a surprise, We checked into this hotel after a late arrival in Prague and were thrilled with the hotel and our room. Whilst it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the bedroom layout was fantastic for us and we loved the bathroom arrangement, especially the huge shower room. The bed was comfy, the curtains thick, great great great! To top all things off the breakfast was sensational, one of the best we have had at a mid – high class hotel. The bar was expensive, but its Prague, get out and have a cheap and good Pivo. The only detraction was the location, a little far from the centre of town but not out of walking distance and the park across the road, which my Czech friend refers to a Sherwood Forest i.e Robin hood, stay out of there especially at night and you’ll be fine.
The hotel is very modern and clean. I loved the rock wall shower with monsoon shower head. The staff was EXTREMELY helpful with directions. At one point the person at the front desk actually walked my wife to a bank a few blocks away because every other ATM was out of money, because it was Christmas season. We were very pleased with the buffet breakfast there was hardly anyone there and the few was fresh and delicious. They helped us get cabs and even book a day trip. Would stay there again on another trip. We were in walking distance to old town city centre.
Prague is a very beautiful city and the Christmas markets are excellent especially for the food and hot wine! The 987 Hotel really sums up the city, very modern whilst retaining a sense of tradition with the ornate frontage. The rooms are quite small and the biggest criticism, if any, is that there is a real lack of storage space, but otherwise this hotel is the perfect place to stay if you are only in Prague for a few days. It is right on the edge of the City and in walking distance from all major attractions such Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge. People will tell you that you need to take a tram to the Castle but we walked it and enjoyed doing so, stopping to sip a hot wine from the Xmas market along the way of course! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Also I highly recommend you buy the AA Key Guide book for Prague
We booked the hotel through lastminute.com having seen reviews here. We arrived at the hotel around 10pm and were served with room service given the time. I knew the hotel looked good on the web, but in life its 10 times better!! it really is something special. We liked the food (bar menu only) but its fantastic, expecially the burger and club snadwhich!!!! The rooms are super, and the shower was the best i ever used!!! The staff and wonderfull and will help you in any way they can. We very much enjoyed the chilled-out sofa area near reception after a long days walking around! the only downside was the cost of drinks (like anywhere). the bar isn't too bar really for a cheeky budvar beer before going out, but be weary of the mini bar prices (again like anywhere). There is a small supermarket in the train station, in the park across the way which we found handy. Definate recommends from us are: ... use the metro- its cheap, very cleana nd easy to use. the hotel reception has tickets for this and will explain all to you very well. use pragueairport transfers dot co dot uk for your transfer. They are very good and £33 return journey. on top of this they give you a very handy map on arrival at the hotel and you get a free 4 hour walking tour if you book a return journey!!! the walks are great in order to get to know the place if you are having a short stay, these walks can cost you £30 alone if you arn't carefull. do the river restaurants cruise advertised in the hotel lobby from prague sight seeing expert, its around £100 for 2 by the time you have got drinks on board, but worth every penny. food and views are great and you get a free 40min minibus tour round town before. for a true dining experience of super quality try znovice in the belfry tower about 2min walk into the town from the hotel. its on the 8th floor of an old bell tower and serves true a'la carte food, however it is quite expensive, although again worth every penny. for a cheaper meal try the pizzeria opposite mcdonalds near the bottom on wencelas square, next to the nike shop, its only a doorway which leads toa large basement restaurant but its great and good value, we found places that are underground reflect their cheaper rates onto the customer, this is the case with the shamrock irish bar, again on wencelas square near the topopposite the other mcdoanlds!! we never had to use a taxi as they are expensive and the metro was very cheap and handy for us, there is a metro stop opposite the hotel in the parkland. a ticket valid for 90mins is 26ck (less then £1) and it can be used on the metro, trmas and buses. a 18ck ticket can be used for a shorter trip, using only 1 line of the metro for up to 20min or 5stops, i recommend for peice of mind and using the entire prague intergrated trnasport system opt for the 26kc, but dont forget to vlaidate it before use (yellow boxes at top of metro escalators or on trams) seeing town sqaure, prague castle and charles bridge are a must. be aware of restaurtnat and bar prices in these areas though. make a onte of how much £1 is and keep it with you. however the lesser town side of the river where the castle is proves to much cheaper, we could eat and drink here for the price of a drink in town sqaure!!!! prague is a fantastic place and we would definately go back!! and we would definately stay at the 987 due to location (5min walk to wnecelas square) and the super quality and service in the hotel. it is highly recommended for all ages.
We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and were very well served.Rooms are as on the brochures clean and efficient.Breakfast was extremely good, very rich and appealing. The staff was very helpfull and the center of the city just 10 minutes walk.i would recommend it because you can walk all day and night close to the hotel and not be afraid because the area was very safe.very convenient because we would explore the city during the day and go back for a nap and out again.it is very important to have that option.
Hotel arranged a transfer for us from the Airport. Merc arrived and dropped us off at the door - no problems. Rooms were fantastic, exactly as they look in the pictures online. Bar was a bit quiet, but there are plenty of pubs/clubs in town to get a drink. Breakfast was good - big selection of everything. Very clean hotel and very helpful staff. Very modern and quiet. Centrally located and everywhere was within 10-15 minutes away by foot. Would definately stay again. Prague is very beautiful. Would definately return to the 987 if we came back to Prague.
Excellent hotel - just 15 min walk to Old Town Center. Very clean and modern room - just like pictures on website. Excellent breakfast in AM - lots of variety. Book with confidence!
Comodo perchè piuttosto centrale e piacevolmente confortevole, con un otttimo design
Just got back from 3 night stay at this lovely hotel. Booked through lastminute.com and paid £170 for 3 nights b&b which included return flights on Easyjet from Notts East Midlands. The hotel room was spotless, very modern and stylish with a plasma screen tv with sky news etc, and a wet room type shower which we loved! The mini bar was expensive, but the free safe in the room was a nice surprise. The staff were friendly and spoke excellent english. Breakfast was great - certainly something to please even the fussiest eaters. Bacon, Eggs, fresh fruit, yoghurts, croissants and pastries, fresh bread and rolls, fresh juices, tea, coff, hot chocolate and more..... The location was good. 10 mins easy walk to all centre attractions. Booked our own taxis via Prague Airport Transfers - look on the airport sight for their details. It cost £15.50 for 4 people one way and takes approx 25 minutes. They were waiting at the airport for us and we were impressed so booked them for our return. We never caught a tram in Prague as everything is within easy walking distance if you are fairly fit. Beware though, the old town square is lovely to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by but you get ripped off with prices being 3 times what they are just off the square. Loved Prague - it was our first time and would def recommend
This is a nice modern hotel but our room which I guess was standard was very small. The toilet and shower were a cubicle with a door seperate from each other and the basin was in the room itself. Not ideal. The staff were pleasant enough but not overly helpful. The bed was so hard I had to ask for pillows to lie on as my back was very sore. The breakfast each morning was a bit of a bun fight and the plates and cups were chipped. I did point it out to one of the staff and she said "Yes they are" No other comment. Have been away for six weeks and although this was one of the more expensive hotels it is definitely the only one I have any bad comments about. I wouldn't stay there again.
This is a fantastic hotel. Very funky, extremelly clean, tidy with friendly staff. Its located near the main stattion and ten minutes walk from the old town. They have some rooms there are on two floors with your own staircase, just like a duplex apartment. However, do not get them to book a taxi for you, as we were overcharged by 250 crowns.
First a general tip concerning "hotel taxis" = if you ask for a taxi to luxury hotel receptionnist in Prague, you will most probably end up using the hotel limousine. Very expensive. So if you want the receptionist to simply call you a taxi from outside, just specify you need a NORMAL taxi. I had the same issue with other hotels in Prague (e.g. Palace Hotel in Panska). I had a fight on that with 987 Prague Hotel during my last stay because I really don't like this habit of those hotels to systematically re-direct you to the most expensive services. So yes, I confirm what other people wrote about the unfriendly staff. And I confirm what the reviewer from Florida wrote about the awkward design of the furniture in the hotel rooms = I may be European and used to small bathrooms, I really did not like the totally unpractical design of the rooms of this hotel. It might be very nice but it is totally unpractical = - very little space to put your stuff / clothes - the washbasin is in the room itself (cold if you just get out of the shower), with parquet floor below
We loved this hotel. My husband used it in April when on business in Prague, and suggested we return for a short break. I am so pleased we did. The room was very comfortable. We had a bath, and a cupboard with hanging space. Tea and coffee making things would have been good, but we just purchased bottles of water and soft drinks form the local Tesco! We had no problems with"expensive hotel taxis", we bought a three-day travel ticket for 220Kc each, then hopped on and off trams to our hearts content, the simple way back to the airport from the hotel is a number 26 tram from opposite the hotel, changing to a 119 airport bus. We bought the ticket at the airport when we arrived and just followed the map - more fun than taxis!! Breakfast was fine, we were not left hungry. Staff all seemed pleasent enough, although obviously busy as the hotel appeared full. Prague is a beautiful city, and the hotel is ideally situated for walking around and for using the excellent tram system. We would stay here again if we return to Prague.
Stayed 3 nights here in mid August. Cannot reccomend enough! Booking a hotel is usually hit or miss, there's always mixed opinions but i thought this looked great for the price. Very happy i did! Was a very modern and stylish hotel, extremely helpful staff , gorgeous rooms and loved the breakfasts! Around a 10ish min walk to the Old Town Square and about the same to Wen Square. Was central enough for us, in a lovely quiet location. Felt completely safe (as 2 girls) walking to and from the more lively parts in the evenings. Will def be staying there again.x
I loved this hotel. I was traveling alone and found the staff very helpful with booking excursions. Their free map was helpful and had advertisments for good trips. The room was very comfortable. The bed was a bit hard. The shower was great- good water pressure. The room had airconditioning and a hair dryer, soap, shampoo and shower cap too! Breakfast was good- bacon, eggs, yogurt, pastries, cheese, juices, coffee and tea. Great location- 10 minute walk to heart of city. One bad thing- the tram runs along one side of the hotel. It wasn't bad, but you could hear it. I would definately room at this hotel again!
Just returned from 4 nights in Prague at Design 987 hotel. It was overall brilliant in every respect. When we arrived, the service was brilliant, we were shown to the fabulous glass orange lift and found our way easily to our room via the orange corridor lightning! Our room was exceptional, very clean and the biggest bed ever! The bathroom was very very modern with the biggest shower head i have ever seen, it was so good in fact we are now thinking of getting one installed in our house! We never used public transport when we were in Prague, we walked everywhere. The hotel is about 15mins walk from both Wencesleas Square and The old town. We timed it on day in 34degrees seering heat and it took us 35mins to walk back to hotel from Charles Bridge, however it is a beautiful walk and if you walk down the back streets you will be shaded and discover lots of little treasures! Although you are warned to be wary of pickpocketers, we did not see any crime at all and there were always lots of police walking around. The people are very friendly and it is a very safe, clean and beautiful city. Oh, and the breakfast at the hotel is fantastic, a choice of cereals, pastries, fruti, youghurt and fresh breads but the pice de resistance was ofcourse the bacon sarnies!!!!
We have just returned from a week at Prague. The hotel is magnificent and the service we experienced was incredible . Our room was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel. prgaue was magnificent as well!!!
The room had enough space and the bed was very big and comfortable. The bathroom area could have been bigger.
We spent 4 nights at 987 and thought it was great! We found the staff very friendly and helpful, especially the girl on the nightshift who helped us out a few times and was always smiling. Room was fabulous and the shower was amazing! Breakfast was good but the weekend staff were a bit slow off the mark as things ran out but very good selection. It's so easy to get to the old town by either foot or tram. If you want to get a quick bite to eat and don't want to travel into town, we found the tapas bar/restaurant 2 mins away near the train station, very good and cheap and great Cuba Libres! We really enjoyed Prague and didn't want to come home!
We are a young couple who stayed in this hotel in January 2007. The room was one of the best we stayed in on our 7 week trip around Europe. It was very modern, clean and comfortable. The location was good. You could walk to the main street of Prague in 5-10 minutes. There was a tram stop across the street and a large train station in the same street as the hotel. The buffet breakfast was very nice, alot like home. The only thing we didn't like was that the staff weren't particulary friendly. They did help us to book several tours however I was very sick the night of our first tour and we had to cancel. The staff were quite unimpressed and slightly rude about it. Other then that we enjoyed our stay.
I could gush about this hotel all day!! The hotel was everything I expected and more. I work in the business myself therefore know of the difficulties you can get at hotels however the room my partner and I stayed in – was FANTASTIC. I loved the layout and he was ecstatic about the ‘Louis ghost chairs’ in the room (he now wants some for our flat- and they are on their way!!). I organised the stay with the hotel it's self and was really concerned that it would all go wrong however when we arrived my friend and her partner went in the lift before us, as I got to our floor I could hear squealing about the room and how 'cool' and 'stylish' everything was!! I had read a few bad reviews on ‘this site about the hotel; difficulties on checkout, the breakfast not being up to scratch and the reception staff being rude and not very pleasant. I thought the complete opposite – the breakfast was delicious- massive choice and everything was fresh. Checkout was no problem at all and reception staff were kind and more than helpful. I called from the airport in the UK before we arrived and they had a taxi waiting with my name on a board on our arrival, it couldn’t have gone more smoothly. When I wanted to book a restaurant for the evening from my room it was no trouble at all. The hotel was always clean and all the staff were more than willing to help. Overall we thought the hotel was fantastic. Please note: it was my partner’s birthday whilst we were away at the hotel, and we had dinner at Kampa Park, just over the Charles Bridge – the food was delicious, the atmosphere was romantic and the view over the Charles Bridge was worth every penny - I definite must visit.
The hotel is in a good location, but there are some major problems. First, the hotel is on a street with both a trolley and a road that makes cars rumble as they pass over the rocks, not tar, on the road. For sensitive sleepers, beware. The breakfast is served 7-10:30 weekdays in a pleasant room. It is more than sufficient breakfast with bread, yogurt, fruit, eggs, bacon, cheese, and juices and coffee. The staff all speak sufficient English, are friendly, and arranged a car service for us twice which was convenient. Lots of promotional touristy information in hotel lobby. Internet service in the room is free and fast. Hotel is clean. Television in room is about 24 inch plamsa which was ok. Bed was king size. Bathroom is typically European small. One room for toilet, and one room for shower. THERE ARE NO CLOSETS, no drawers, no place to put your items except two hangers on a wall. Basically, the small hotel room is a bed and bathroom which for $200 was not worth it and I would look elsewhere next time. Walked by a Marriott and Renaissance both of which looked good from the outside, plus plenty of unique hotels near the city center of Old Town. Enjoyed Prague very much, and hope to return.
I was in Prague last week and was investigating a hotel for a trip in May. I had seen that the 987 Design Hotel in Prague was available so wanted to go and have a look at it and check the rates if booking direct. The receptionist checked availability and then I asked what rate she could offer, she said she would have to check with her supervisor, they spoke in Czech, the supervisor then literally looked me up and down and spoke in Czech again with the receptionist who then informed me that they were full! They treated me as If I was some tramp who had walked in off the street asking for a room, I was well dressed, in summer clothes and designer sunglasses but obviously I wasn't "Designer" enough for their hotel! By complete contrast the Four Seasons in Prague were nothing but welcoming, and invited me to look around the hotel, and were more than happy for me to stay there!
In many ways this is a pretty good choice if you want a mid-range hotel in Prague that's reasonably close to the action. The rooms are superb, with a real effort made to make them a bit different from your average hotel. Facilities are above average and I have no complaints about the cleanliness. As far as the location goes, it's probably about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the old square. Many people have commented on how it is far enough away to be a decent quiet option, although really it could be 5 minutes closer to the square without being any less quiet. The service however, is so bad as to be comical. When we arrived the staff behind the counter at first ignored us, then simply told us to "WAIT!" whilst they continued their light-hearted chat between themselves for the next few minutes. When speaking with us though, they somehow became far more surly! Their finest moment though was when we were waiting at the hotel bar, which was supposed to be open for another 5 minutes but had no one behind it. The staff however were all chatting in the lobby, and could see us waiting at the bar. We waited patientally for 6 or 7 minutes until approaching them in the lobby. At this point they checked the clock and informed us that the bar closed 1 minute ago! Marvelous!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights, and we loved everything about it. Big enough rooms, the best shower ever, clean, stylish and great location. The piccolo(a young man) was so nice, and our experience with the other employees was good, nothing over the top, but average. The only thing was that when we checked out, the girl that had the morning shift was sleeping in the backroom, and it took her a while to wake up. It wasn`t a big problem, but a bit unproffesional. The breakfast was really good, with a lot of variety. Once again, the location was great, 5 minutes walking and you are in the heart of the old town. The hotel across the street(boscolo, carlo IV) is a 5-star luxury hotel(if you want to pay more for a better hotel, choose this hotel!!!), with a beautiful brand new spa. We payed a little fee, and used their spa. They had turkish bath, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and a huge pool area. This I higly reccomend after walking for hours and hours. If you want a stylish, contemporary design hotel, safe, good location and clean rooms, choose this hotel, you will not regret!!!! have a nice trip to prague, the city is so beautiful.
My boyfriend and I stayed here on a weekend break in January 2007. We nearly didn't get there due to the heaviest snow fall they'd seen in 15 years. I'm glad we made it though as it was beautiful! I had a fabulous stay! The hotel was lovely, and because our flight was delayed, we didn't get there until 4am. We were greated by a helpful receptionist who when we said could we get anything to eat at this ridiculous hour, offered to order us a pizza, which was delivered to our room. Just the job. The room itself was very clean and the huge bed was very comfortable with it's fresh crisp white linen and feather duvet. The huge tiled pod shower was lovely too. Any excuse to use it, I took. The flat screen tv offered varied entertainment and movies were available to hire. The only negative thing I would mention is that the lack of closet space meant you had to be very clever in arranging your clothes in the limited space provided behind the bed. The mini bar was well stocked and reasonably priced, and the continental style breakfast was good too. Just make sure you get up early for the hot food though - we missed it on both mornings. Could have done with tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Oh...another great attribute to the room were the lights...I spent ages experimenting with the different combinations of the spotlights available! I'd definately reccommend this hotel for short city break! Enjoy....... (p.s Go to the Kampa Park Restaurant ......very romantic, and the bustling & atmospheric Tretters cocktail bar in the Old Town Square. AVOID eating in the restaurants around the edge of this square though.....VERY expensive!!)
I was a little nervous about staying at the 987 Prague Hotel after reading of other people turning up with reservations only to be shipped to other hotels. However, the booking in experience was a good one and we were quickly in our room. The hotel was okay but I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for something special. One of the reasons I booked it was because of it being a "design" hotel, supposedly smart, witty and sophisticated. But I am afraid everything is already looking a little old and in need of a lick of paint - our room had a dirty footprint and scuff marks on the wall. The staff didn't seem to want to do anymore than the minimum, and a request for extra pillows did not go down well. The most annoying thing for me about the hotel is that my floor stank of cigarette smoke. I had a no smoking room but that is pretty meaningless when everywhere around you smells of smoke. I have asthma and it got worse through the week we stayed there. The breakfast bar doubles up as a drinks bar in the evening, but very few people seemed to use it - probably because it looked like a breakfast bar! There is no restaurant and although there are restaurants in easy walking distance this is a drawback on a cold and rainy night. Food from room service is limited to sandwiches and salads. Basically, it isn't a hotel to spend much time in. It lacks character, facilities and romance. If you think of a hotel as just being somewhere that you sleep then this hotel is as good as any - except maybe you could get the samething elsewhere cheaper. If you're heading to this beautiful and romantic city for a little romance yourself I would recommend that you look elsewhere.
We headed to Prague for our honeymoon and stayed at the Design Hotel. Well ... we had planned and booked to stay at the hotel. When we arrived we were told that there had been an accident at the hotel and that our room was not available. We were told that they would put us in their sister hotel round the corner (there is no sister hotel) and then they promptly rang the Novotel and ordered us a taxi. We were dissppointed and asked to speak to the manager (who was at home). When we got through to the manager she informed us there was no accident, but they had double booked several rooms, other people had turned up first and had got the rooms. As compensation they offered us a cup of coffee. When we explained that we had booked it four months previously, she said she knew and that at the point of us booking it they were already full up, but that they accepted our booking, knowing full well they wouldn't be able to accomodate us and would send us of to any other hotel in Prague that had room for us. On our way out we met another couple who had experienced the same treatment and they talked of a group of 12 who had had the same problem also. So the hotel itself is really cool, nice rooms and a good location, but be careful and be aware that the hotel does act as a feeder hotel to other hotels in the area. Basicially you book a room there, they accept your booking even if they are full and then when you get there, they arrange for you to be carted off to the Novotel. So effectively you can be paying top rate for a hotel room which you don't actually end up sleeping in. The breakfast wasn't worth writing home about either.
Spent 6 nights in this great hotel for New Year's celebration. Very good location, Prague is an amazing city and almost everything is walking distance. The hotel is located towards the end of the central area which was great for us especially during the New Year Celebrations as it was much much quieter than other places around Prague. The rooms where very elegant and stylish. The shower was the best shower we have ever used. We took several showers a day just for the fun of it. The only negative things about the room are that there is no real closets for clothes and as we were 2 people going for 6 nights, we had to empty only one bag and keep the other one full. The other negative thing was that they don't have any hot water Kettle which is a standard thing in most 4 star hotels these days. Staff were friendly when they understood the language properly as we found out that if you speak fast normal English they will not really understand and hence would not be very helpful but once they do understand they are very helpful. The City in itself is maybe one of the nicest places on earth and we would recommend it to anyone who likes culture and arts.
Hotel is in a fantastic location, everywhere is walkable. Hotel is just in a little bit quieter area which is good. Hotel design was fantastic, looked great from the outside, looked great on the inside, very classy and clean. The rooms are very spacious and have great facilities. A massive, most comfortable bed, ajustable air conditioning, lcd tv, massive shower, digital safe and plenty of space. This was probably the best hotel I have ever stayed, which made my trip to Prague even more enjoyable. Hotel staff weren't overly helpful but at the same time they arranged our taxi to the airport no problem. Breakfast was not too bad, expect breads and croissaint style food, was about average, but this didn't bother me. Full marks to the hotel, hope to definately return again or try one of their partner hotels in another part of the world, value was excellent, highest recommendations, I can't see why anybody could be dissapointed.
We stayed in this hotel for three nights just before Christmas - booked through lastminute.com and I would definitely recommend it. It's a very short walk from the old town which makes it ideal for exploring Prague during a short trip. It's also just a few streets away from where one of the airport shuttles drops passengers off. Inside the hotel - everything is clean and modern and has a very relaxed feel about it. The breakfasts were great and definitely better than most hotels in terms of the choice on offer. My only one slight criticism about the bedroom is that the toilet is practically in the room with only one thin door dividing it! But otherwise - excellent.
Had a great time we suggested this city break to friends and we all had a fantastic time. From previous experience we took a travel kettle coffee etc. I need a coffee just to surface in the morning. Airport taxi transfer very fast but got to hotel ok. Rooms(spotlessly clean ,modern and comfy), staff, breakfast everything was great. Out of hotel turn left straight into centre, (5/10 mins walk )We visited castle (noon is the best time for changing of the guards ) astronomical clock, river boat , jewish cemetry and sex museum!!! Very informative. We ate in the side street cafe/restaurents and had lovely meals all very resonable. Weather quite warm wore short sleeved tops but went a bit cooler in the evenings. Would certainly go to this hotel again better situated than our previous stay in the Mala Strana.
The hotel was in a fantastic location. It really was as stated "Design Hotel". The modern decor was very warm and inviting. The rooms are very comfortable and quite luxurious. We booked three rooms in our party and each one was superb. The staff were nice and very approachable. It did not matter that we arrived at 1am and needed to book an extra room - it was no problem. The one receptionist was very cheery. Their knowledge of languages was incredible as we were a mixture of Spanish and English. They spoke both languages amongst others. The breakfast was buffett style and there was a huge choice of breads, pastries, English style breakfast, continental, fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts. They had everything. We could not fault anything at all and the overall ambiance and people who were staying at the hotel was great. Easy access to the town and not too far from the airport. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and also very good hotel rates. Would stay again.
Just returned from a long weekend with friends. Loved Prague and The 987 is a lovely hotel. However the bar closed at 11.00 and with no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms we were parched by breakfast. We noticed that everytime someone was paying they're bill there was a problem with being over charged. On the day of departure we had the same problem. The bill at the end of our stay differed greatly from what we were quoted and also they did not deduct our deposit. After about 20 mins we sorted out the problem to a satisfactory end. The next couple to settle their bill were charged for alchohol from the mini bar and both were teetotal! Also my friend left her purse on the table by reception. We rang the hotel to check it was there and were told yes it was, but when we returned from our trip they denied all knowledge of the telephone conversation and said no purse had been handed in!!
It was an enjoyable stay given cleaniness and location is a priority! It was easy to find, walking distances to sights The staff can be more friendly and helpful Breakfast was pretty good, again, it will help if if they hire more mature staff. The room is a bit noisy, next to the main road with trams running throughout the nite Not for the light sleeper but definitely a good value hotel
We decided to go for a short two night break, for our wedding anniversary, to Prague and stayed at the 987 Design Prague Hotel. The rumours of the Taxi's trying to rip you off are all true!!! We were very concious of this before coming to Prague. We suggest you check/agree how much the fair will be at the start of the journey. Once we landed at the airport, we asked the information desk how much roughly it would cost to got to our hotel/in the main town. The holiday guides said it would be roughly 360 Kr, but to check with the desk, which we did. The information desk told us she could order us a cab for 800 Kr, which we refused as this was very overpriced!! There are airport taxi's outside the airport which were charging 600 Kr. We decided to take the airport mini bus, which charged 480 Kr. The cab driver had a hygiene problem, which was not very pleasant!! Our advice is to take the airport mini bus or the yellow cabs opposite the airport (Yellow cabs called AAA) as these are much cheaper than the Airport Taxi firm, about 300 Kr - 400 Kr. Once we arrived at 987 Design Prague hotel to check in the receptionist was very miserable. No friendly welcome at all!! The hotel itself is very clean, comfortable and stylish, only let down were the staff in general, especially at the front desk. None of the staff knew were any of the restaurants we wanted to visit were located and everytime we asked for any information/direction, they had no clue!! and made no effort to find info either. Surely it is your job to know the area, so you can provide info to your hotel guest!! The worst thing about the hotel is that they even rip you off on the cab fairs too!! We had dinner reservations at Kampa Park restaurant for our wedding anniversary and asked the receptionist how much the cab fair would be. She advised us that the fair would be 400 Kr if we got a cab from the town, but the hotel cab would be 480 Kr. For a small difference of 80 Kr we decided to take the hotel cab, what a mistake!!!! Firstly, the cab driver did not know where Kampa Park restaurant was (even though this is a very well know restaurant in Prague) After a 5 minute discussion with the hotel the driver took us to Na Kampa (the area of where the restaurant was) We asked him if this was Kampa Park Restaurant and he said yes it is here. We got out the cab and paid our 480 Kr and could not find the restaurant. We spent 30 mins walking around Na Kampa and asking for directions from the locals and finally located the restaurant. As you can imagine, we was not happy at all!!! Once we had finished dining, we asked the restaurant to call us a cab back to the hotel. When the cab driver arrived, we asked him how much the fair would be. He advised us he would not know until the end of the journey as it was on a meter but roughly about 140 Kr. I thought he meant 140 Kr per mile or something, which would of worked out to be about 400 Kr and I just said OK. Well when we arrived at the hotel the cab journey was actually 140 Kr!!! We was so shocked how cheap it was and realised that the hotel had ripped us off!!! The next morning we complained to the hotel about them overcharging us 3 times on the cab fair and that the cab driver did not drop us off outside the restaurant. The Manager was not available so the Back Office Manger said she would look into it and get back to us that day, which she didn't. That evening we asked the receptionist if she was around to resolve the problem and she had gone home. We demanded them to call her as she advised us she would solve the problem and had not bothered to at all. She apologised and told us that she was waiting for the cab firm to return her call, which they did not. She advised us that she could not refund us the cab fair and she would offer us drink vouchers for the bar. We said No, as this was a pathetic gesture!! We agreed for her to send a bottle of champagne to our room, due to the fact it was our wedding anniversary. As expected they sent up a cheap bottle of Czech Sparkling wine which my husband and I decided to send back and rather not accept the poor gesture. The hotel is very nice, clean and comfortable, but the staff let it down massively, very miserable, lacking information and definately service without a smile. Would not return to this hotel due to the staff!!
We have just returned from staying at the Design hotel and overall, our experience was good. The hotel is very modern and has some great design features, but staff were not the happiest I've seen and like a couple of other reviews have mentioned, there is not a lot of atmosphere! If you want a modern, clean room with a big bed, which we often struggle with, then the design hotel is perfect! The room itself was very well presented and the shower was great, although there was a problem with the drains which meant there was a distinct sulphur smell whenever you entered the room, we did get used to this, but again not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel!??! There is a small lobby area and then two areas where guests have breakfast, these were well designed and funky and it was a real shame that these weren't used more in the evenings as it could have been a really nice bar/social area. Breakfast is pretty much what you would expect, fresh pastries, yoghurt, fruit and scrambled eggs, bacon and hot dogs. The only gripe with breakfast is that the sausages were cold even though they were in a serving dome, the burner underneath was not turned on. The location was great, we explored the whole city from the hotel and walked everywhere. Taxi's (if needed) are cheap, just ask the receptionist for a cheaper company as apposed the mercedes provided by the hotel. Our taxi to the the airport only cost 500kr (£12.50)
Stayed here for a long weekend, and it was perfect as a base for exploring the city. If, however, you like to spend a fair bit of time in your hotel on holiday, then the 987 is not the hotel for you. The hotel is roughly eqidistant from the New and Old towns, being about a ten minute walk from each; the surrounding area seemed safe enough at night. You have to go out, because although there is a bar area where breakfast is served, there is no proper restaurant. Breakfast was fine, a good selection of typical continental fare; fruit, pastries, cold meats etc. The rooms, as with the rest of the hotel, looked really good (and the bed was huge) but suffered some loss of functionality as a result. As mentioned in other reviews, there problem with the shower leaking into the room when the door is opened, and we also found that the shower would not stay at the same temperature, requiring continual adjustments, although, in fairness, it was excellent apart from this. More irritating than this was the storage, which was small and really badly located. Anything on a hanger will end up resting on the floor, and the shelving is practically useless. That being said, the hotel was very clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful and spoke good english, and none of these things detracted significantly from our stay. Ultimately, Prague is not a city you visit to spend a lot of time in a hotel, and this is a pleasant, well situated place to stay for exploring what is an enchanting city.
Having just come back from my first visit to Prague, I thought I should offer advice and comments about this hotel. I stayed here with my sister and we were given a twin room. The beds were very comfortable, the view was nice and the rain shower was cool! The walk to the Old Square was about ten minutes and we felt quite safe walking back at night. The hotel was 'modern' and the decor was close to that found in an Ikea catalogue, but it was perfect for a short stay. The staff were very helpful, most of them being very fluent in English. There was a good selection for breakfast (we certainly didn't go hungry!) All in all it was perfect for a short stay in Prague. On a city break, not a huge amount of time is spent in the hotel and I would (and have) recommended this hotel to others.
Our first time in Prague and we loved this hotel. The hotel is very stylish and full of fantastic design features. The rooms were spotless. It is only a 5 minute walk to the Old Town and the hotel is in a quiet location opposite a park. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The best hotel we have stayed in!!
stayed at the 987 hotel on 24th July 2006 with a girlfriend for a girly break, The location of the hotel is great to get around and see the sights all within walking distance wensolum square 5 minutes walk, Charles bridge 15 min, no need for public transport it is so convenient. As for the hotel it is certainly different in its modern (big brother house) style. The only thing we did not like was the fact that very few rooms actually have a bathroom, you seem to get a sink in your room and 2 cubicles one with a toilet in and one with a shower (wet room) bit cell block H. The breakfast was also very disorganised with about 20 people queing for 1 coffee vending machine. But all in all very clean, staff helpful and we had a comfortable stay.
On our visit to Prague thought we'd give the 987 design hotel a try. To start, neither of our keys worked & the woman behind the counter seemed annoyed that we were interrupting her to reset the code. Finally, after managing to get into the room, we discovered that the bathroom light was broken. When I went back downstairs to report that the light wasn't working I was greeted with a 'what now?' attitude. "There are no more rooms!" Ok, how about sending someone up to fix the light? "They all went home! Maybe tomorrow!" Silly me, I forgot to bring my flashlight to a 4-star hotel... So, we go out & about in the city & upon our return (stepping over used needles in this 'great location'), the key doesn't work again. Luckily for us, there was another (perhaps more approachable) man behind the desk. "Our key doesn't work." "This system is so bad! You are third person today!" "Oh, & our bathroom light doesn't work either." "You told us before? What room are you? Second floor or sixth floor?" Hmm, so more than one light fixture doesn't work. Nice to know. We go back upstairs with the once again reset key-card. I go to take a shower, the nozzle falls off. Two hours later, a bell-hop & an annoyed looking electrician show up to fix the light. After about 10 minutes of assessing the light, the electrician decides that he needs a ladder. He leaves & comes back 5 minutes later. We hear banging, swearing & breaking plaster for the next 15 or so minutes & finally, they back out of the room, explaining that they now need to send in the maid to clean the broken parts of the ceiling that they just destroyed. The thought 'How many Czech does it take to change a light bulb?' came to mind. The next day, it's thankfully time to check out. Now we get to wait for 15 minutes while the happy-sunshine girl from the first day tries to help some couple buy tickets to the magic-neon show or something. "You want check out?" "Sure, why not, assuming that you haven't charged me for an extra day while I was waiting here." She then tries to charge us for a bottle of water that we never took from the mini-bar in addition to a chocolate bar. I'm beginning to think we'd have been better off at a hostel with a vending machine. She doesn't have the correct change for the chocolate so I end up with no choice but to leave a £1 tip for their impeccable customer service. The modern door closes on us as we exit the hotel. Perfect ending to a perfectly horrible hotel experience.
Stayed here with a number on colleagues on business. I liked it a lot. Good sized room, comfortable bed, large flat screen TV and very clean. Great breakfast as well. But, the shower, wow! The enormous showerhead made it like standing under a sheet of warm rain - fantastic. For some of my more traditional (i.e. older!) colleagues, some of the design features weren't appreciated so much. The bathroom is actually made up of 2 'pods' - one for the shower, one for the toilet whilst the sink is in the main bedroom. But all done very nicely in slate, orange glass and wood. Some of them didn't appreciate the location of the bed which was in the middle of the room with storage behind the headboard. Mine was a more traditional layout and probably better for it. The hotel is trying to be a little different whilst maintaining all the comforts you'd expect today. For a romantic break in Prague, or even business, I'd be suprised if you would return home disappointed after staying here. Even if you don't like the design, the quality cannot be faulted.
We found this hotel to be well located to explore the city of Prague. The hotel was very clean and the beds large and comfortable. Our only critisism was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Really nice hotel very well located. Great beds and lots of design. Very useful taxi service. Great and comfortable place to be. I'd definteley go back. On the bad side, no restaurant and problems in some rooms with water from the shower coming to the rooms.
Let's see, where to start? Advertised WiFi Internet did not work. Had to change rooms to get a room that had wired Internet. Could not close the shades all the way, meaning no privacy and lights shining in all niight. Channels 1-10 on the TV were out of order. Someone was coming to fix it, but it never happened. Breakfast starts at 7:00 and no in-room coffee, so bad luck if you have an early flight (as with us business travellers). Lots of noise from other rooms and elsewhere. Really limited room service, small rooms, cheap fixtures. Otherwise, very stylish and new. Pretty good bed. Okay location. I have stayed in worse, but also a lot better. Will probably pick another hotel next time.
We arrived at this hotel on 11/4/06 and we amazed from the word go! The staff were really friendly and professional, and we checked in with ease. The hotel looks amazing from both the inside and out, and is very clean. It is a very modern hotel and is quite new (January). We got upto our room and both of us said 'Wow!' at the same time. It was great-the hugh bed, LCD tv on the wall, decoration and furniture, and the wonderful shower in the wet room all made up for the room being a little on the small side. However, we still loved this hotel and would recommend it highly. Breakfast was also great! Plenty of croissants, pastries, cheese, ham, fresh bread, scrambled egg and fresh fruit and juice, and tea and coffee. We loved it and will definitely go back!!!
This centrally located hotel is fantastic. It's stylish and unique and the staff are friendly and professional. We booked through Expedia and turned up to find out they didn't have our booking (be sure to confirm directly with the hotel to avoid having this scare!) They were on full occupancy however somehow managed to accommodate us without too much hassle. The rooms are great - monster comfy beds, amazing hot waterfall-design showers. Everything is new. Chic decor & yes a delish buffet breakfast - gourmet and fresh with loads of cheese without being cheesey. Look no further, hotel 987 is perfect!!
Exellent value, spotlessly clean, staff welcomeing, and helpfull, good location for city centre, great breakfast, top marks from my wife and myself. would recommend, english couplein their fifties.who are hard to please.
We loved this hotel too, its very modern, bright and clean. The staff were very cheerful and helpful, as we found all Czech people to be. The room is really two open plan rooms, the bedroom part is very comfortable, large proper double bed with duvet, two comfy chairs, plasma tv, plenty lighting, we found it to be very comfortable and relaxing. The shower/wet room is amazing, a full on power shower room with heated floors, fantastic! The toilet, also with heated floor is separate and the handbasin is on the outside between the shower room and toilet. Boyf wasnt too keen on this, but we both agreed the luxuriousness of the shower room made up for it! All the main tourist areas are in walking distance, but the excellent metro system is just next to the hotel too. I would absolutely recommend this fabulous hotel to all.
The situation is great, only few minutes walk to the National Museum, Opera, and many other attractions. The breakfast was very good. The rooms a little bit small but very comfortable and modern, they are funny! Friendly staff.
Prague is a fantastic city, and the 987 is a fantastic hotel. Having just opened (January, I believe), things can be a bit crazy at times (work was still taking place, and the hotel staff is a bit disorganized at check-out) but overall, this hotel is highly recommended. Close to all of the tourist attractions and squares, you can't go wrong! Also, breakfast is AMAZING - some of the best breakfast pastries I've had in a long time - and there is a free-flowing (albeit tempramental, at times) cappuccino machine that makes a fantastic cup of coffee! MUST visit/stay here again!
Great hotel. Good location, clean and fantastic breakfeast (didn't try the bacon & eggs though). Evening reception staff looked more like bouncers though and the following morning the girls working were not super-polite. Apart from this everything is great about this place. One warning though, I think that in a while the rooms may suffer from the funky shower design as I could already see some signs of trouble with the humidity...
From the airport (Yellow Cabs) . Started our break perfectly,(Actually charging less than price quoted---because traffic was ligther than expected). Hotel excellent , we had superior room, which was normal size ,as hotel rooms go. Very modern, brilliant shower, colourful decor. Room cleaning service excellent. Reception staff very helpful and courteous. Great breakfast, again with helpful staff.Would recommend this hotel(but book superior room). Great location & we loved Prague. Great restaurants & lovely people. All in all a superb break !!
