The winner was his son Hercules, who carried the torch.

Having stayed at many hotels in Turkey some not as expensive the hotel and settings are unique unfortunately so are the staff they are the most unfriendly bordering on rude people I have met anywhere in Turkey the hotel is expensive for meals & drinks most of the guests were German which may explain the staffs manner
We just stayed at the Alppasa for 5 nights. At arrival we were shown the STD room we had booked; it was very nice , but out of curiosity we asked if an upgrade would be available and if so, at what charge. They offered us the 'Beethoven Suite' ; a spaceous room with whirlpool, kitchenette and Plasma TV in a newly renovated adjacent building for an additional 25.- Euro daily - a total bargain ! We really enjoyed our stay; the food was very good - especially the turkish 'mezes' and we did not mind at all that the drinks were not included and a bit more expensive. So what - it's five star hotel in a very tastefully remodelled historic building with excellent and very friendly service. Compliments to the owner - well done !
Great pool/dining area appearance. Lots of antiques scattered about hotel area. Excellent breakfast selection. Good location for staying in the center of the old city. Room was reasonably sized with good air-conditioning. We (two couples) had two rooms for two nights. Neither room was cleaned very well after the first night. Extra charges for everything - including 2 euros a day for the in-room safe key. If you can get a good rate, then a reasonable place to stay - if you pay rates equivalent for a 4 or 5 star hotel, stay elsewhere.
We opted for one of the cheaper rooms at the Alp Pasa and were overall very pleased with our choice. The room was clean although the bed was too hard! Although dinner was included in our package beware drinks are charged separately. The pool is very small but the surroundings are very relaxing. I highly recommend visiting the hotel's Turkish Bath.
Whilst at first The Al passa impressed me with its beautiful courtyard layout, staff service and good bedroom fittings i was unfortunately (after a two night stay) left with an overall negative impression of this hotel. We were booked into the more expensive Otterman suite overlooking the courtyard which we were initially happy with. However this was before we became aware that this is actually a 100 room hotel which stuffed all its guests into the courtyard for its inclusive buffet breakfast and dinner. This would not have been a major problem if the hotel had not decided to feed a large group who arrived just shy of midnight. Further despite complaints some early dinner guests had stayed on after dinner (not unreasonably) listening to music and drinking into the early hours. As a previous guest pointed out be careful when asking for fresh orange juice at breakfast as you will be charged. The Al passa is possibly a victim of its own success and its desire to pack as many guests as possible into its complex. Future guests may wish to avoid the more expensive ottoman suites if they wish to have a good nights sleep. We were offered another room if we return!! In my opinion the Alppassa is a modern version of a package holiday hotel with boutique touches but guest's national flags on the dinner tables gives the game away
We had no idea what we were to expect after having different tales of Turkey. This town and hotel were absolutely great. There was nothing that was too much trouble for the staff. They were friendly and courteous at all times. The room was cleaned and linen changed every day. Whirl pool bath became a wonderful habit every evening after a long day walking around! The buffet breakfast was more than adequate. Even on our last day when we were concerned that the taxi had not arrived to take us to the airport the receptionist was more than willing to help solve our problem. Shame really as we would loved to have stayed longer!! We used the rough guide as a bible for our trips to restaurants and attractions and could not fault anything on our trip. Sun everyday and at this particular moment I wish I was there with my partner having a great time. Thoroughly recommend.
This is realy a fantastic hotel to stay ! I booked a superior room really beautiful, in the bathroom was a jacuzzi and i enjoyed it more than once :-) !! This hotel is located in the historical center of antalya city , close to sea (300 m) and excellent if you like history and musea. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. The food was very good. One tip : eat from the á là carte menu , not expensive but incredibilly good!! This hotel have a special and cosy atmosphere. If you're thinking to book this hotel : don't think, just do it !!!!!! And enjoy every minut of it , like i did !
I stayed in the alp pasa hotel for 8 days in april. the hotels is located in kale ici the oldest part of antalya. The hotel has a great atmosphere it's like living in a grand old turkish mansion The hotel was restored in 1995 ( If I am correct) and all arround the hotel you can see old roman columns and artifacts that were dug up while restoring the hotel. The service was friendly and the staff very helpfull and polite. The hotel is clean and well maintained and has a great authentic feel about it. Near the hotel are many great and cheap restaurants and bars most of which offer a great view across the sea and mountains. and it's just a short walk from the marina and hadrians gate. Highly recommended for those who wish to have a quiet vacation to just unwind without staying in a huge all inc bunker.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Alp Pasa Hotel. The service was great. The setting was beautiful within the old town Antalya. We were catered for brilliantly by the helpful staff.
I was in this Hotel for one week in August 2007 The building is nice, my room, a double standard was normal for a four star hotel even if the clima was rather insufficient. The buffet breakfast not very good for an hotel of that standard, like the dinner on buffet too. A bed thing I experienced was about the fact that the waiters push people too choose food and drink not included in the buffet, for example in breakfast there is free juice in the buffet but waiters always ask you if you want juice, if you say yes they give you natural juice who is not free but you must pay. The same circumstance I experienced for dinner, were the waiters always push you to drink... The service was false for the facts I mentioned and the receptionists very unkind; so, in general service was bad. Finally I payed with credit car my chek and after I discover that the total fee has been added of 10% without any raeson!!! I wrote to the hotel to ask the reason of this but I never recived answer.... I advice against go in this hotel!!
Wow! We've just returned from a one-night, all inclusive stay at the Alp Pasa. It's buried deep in the middle of Kaleici, the pedestrianised area in the old castle walls - surrounded by beautifully renovated Ottoman buildings. It's easy to find - signposted from every direction - although we felt a little uncomfortable wandering around the back streets on our own at night. The hotel staff are unbelievable friendly. Everyone, from the doorman to the housekeepers to the manager, couldn't do enough for us. The hotel buildings are beautiful. The decoration is fantastic. The room (we upgraded to a room with 4 poster bed and jacuzzi bath) was small, but perfect - and the bathroom was amazing. Dinner was an all-inclusive buffet. We could have chosen the A La Carte menu, but decided that the all-inclusive looked good enough. The food was much better than expected from all-inclusive.... Hot, plentiful, good quality, and a nice choice. The waiters were great - friendly and attentive - and delivered outstanding service even though the restaurant was quite full. If we were absolutely pushed to say something negative, our two (very minor) complaints would be that the room was a little cold and damp when we arrived - but that's probably because not many people upgrade in January! I guess the room hadn't been used for a while. The other thing we commented on was the price of the wine in the restaurant. House wine was 28 YTL a bottle - which is comparable to English prices, and not what we expect in Turkey. But overall? Amazing, fantastic and wonderful!
Welcomed at the airport by a strange, but endearing character! The drive wasnt long and does a good route of the city centre. The courtyard is stunning, with a central pool and candles lit every night around the historical artefacts that are incorporated in the design of the architecture. Since we visited in December, I didnt see anyone using the pool but it is quite small and more of a feature than an amenity. Its a shame the lower cost rooms dont match the rest of the hotel in terms of quality and space, but they are sufficient. We stayed on the ground floor which was a little noisy particularly around mealtimes when people are bustling around outside and there was little room for a large suitcase. I would suggest paying a little more to stay in a larger room on the higher floors or staying in the new building which I believe is now open. The hotel Manager, Mr Zafar Alp, is such a good host, and his staff and restaurant manager made the stay so pleasant. The food was good and proven by being packed with locals as well as hotel residents. We were invited to see the new building, accompanied by Mr Alps personal security and I would definitely go back to stay there! The rooms are spacious and furnishings are top quality! There are plenty of historical sites around, but do read up in advance and plan day trips out to nearby historical towns. Also head down to the port on a sunny day to catch one of the regular tour boats of the coast - they are cheap and can be hired privately. You can catch the tram to the beach and the more typical tourist areas of Antalya which takes about 15 minutes. The majority of locals speak good English but better German, and sometimes a mash of both, but always with a helpful and welcoming demeanor.
Stayed for one night at this hotel. Absolutley loved it. It has been lovingly restored and the our room was basic, but stylishly decorated. The location in excellent, set within the walls of the old city and close to shops and bars etc. The price was half board and by night, the restaurant was transformed into a candle-lit heaven. The food was good and plentiful with a large selection of hot and cold mezes. The main courses were lacking in choice, but was there was was tasty. Yes, the pool is small, but people were using it and enjoying it. The staff were helpful and freindly. I would stay at this hotel again for a short break.
This hotel is a contradiction. The first room we were showed was awful and switched to a lovely room (which we had to pay more for). All rooms overlook the pool/bar, which plays disco music until midnight. Found that kind of noisy. when checking out, we tried to pay with credit card for the extras and they wouldn't accept it. and insisted we go to get cash. Isn't this a hotel?
Agree with many other comments, beauty is deceiving. Swimming pool open until 7pm, by 6:05 they tell you to get out! Do not bring any food or drinks into the hotel (international standard!! HAHA). otherwise they send in the secret police. If that is what you want do stay there, otherwise beware
The Hotel very nice, but the service is the worst that I had never in that kind of Hotel. Bad behavior, very expensive extras, not service at all. There are many other Hotels around much better than this.
A terrific value and lovely hotel with pool. Prices include lovely breakfast & dinner buffets. Located in the old walled city. A great place to relax for a couple of days. Not close to a good swim beach(Laura Beach half hour away by bus). Walking distance to a small beach at habor.
Structure (rooms, restored old building, pool) promise a great stay, but service (above all personnel kindness) is very bad and the price not worthy. Consider all is extra (internet access, drinks at dinner) and costs far more than turkish standard.
Boyfriend and I wanted to experience a cute turkish hotel-the setting is lovely but don't stay more than 48 hours. We wanted a spacious room so asked for deluxe room at 80€ with brekfast : got a basic room, nothing to write home about. Hotel staff is always looking for charging you extras € . want a map from reception? 2 euros-altough it is free at the tourist information center. Want to put your stuff in the safe ? 2 euros/day). 10 minutes internet is 2 €/ Was happy to get out of there after 2 nights.Fresh orange juice in the morning 3€! Location of hotel in popular district : OK need to get the bus to go to a beach and you can't enjoy pool. Beware of the photos of the pool - you have to know it is a 3,5m*3m pool : enough for 5 adults to stand up in - not even stretch out...no shower before go?ng in there...hyg?ene is poor. So don't even think of enjoying a swim in the pool -altough temperatures in august is high (36 degrees C/humidity 78%) Food : cho?ce of food is poor.Beware of the prices of the drinks Conclusion : room rate should be 50€/night B&B /for 80€ you can get better services & in another hotel...Alp Pa?a is a 2* with rates of a 4* (?nternat?onal standards)
we have just returned from a two night stay in the hotel alp pasa ,I took my wife for her birthday ,I could not have chosen better ,the room (ottaman ) was excellent with jacuzzi of course ,the food was excellent breakfast and dinner, the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you,the hotel itself has been restored with affection, antallya is expensive but we knew that ,and alp pasa is no m,ore expensive than any other 5star hotel, and indeed is a lot cheaper than some I can name ,and also if you cant afford it dont go, it is in a prime location in the old town and offers quick walks to any of the historic areas of the city, an excellent venue highly recommended.
You will be in the heart of old city Antalya, near the famous turkish bath.Very attractive hotel look like a museum. Be prepared to the very unbelievable prices on the way back on meal in airport. For example 2 slices of pizza 1 cola =22 USD, or kofepiece of pie=12
I stayed at the hotel with a friend for 4 nites i May. Wonderful hotel with a great location in the old town of Antalya. Lots of history in the walls. It is built in an old ottoman mansion, so expect lots of stairs...hotel is not suitable for families with small children or people who have difficulties moving around. The rooms are all different (totl 70 rooms), very nice decorated. Some rooms even have jaccuzzi and steambath - abs wonderful!! Cleaniness was very good also. The staff is friendly, skilled and helpful. The meals (breakfast and dinner was included) were excellent! be aware of the fact the rates for beverages (alcoholic as well as non alcoholic) are outregous!!!! The pool is very small and the nearest beach is abt 10min walk but minimal... "real" beach is 15min away with taxi (The Antalya Beach Park) - worth the ride. The picturesque harbour is 10min away with clubs and restaurants. Antalya is well worth a visit, and we can highly recommend this hotel.
Chose this hotel on 'spec' based on the review in the Lonely Planet guide. Firstly it is a nightmare to find in a car, as it's almost impossible to navigate Kaleici's maze of narrow one-way streets. However when we got there we loved it - a beautiful converted Ottoman mansions with charming leafy courtyards. Our room featured a Jacuzzi and was well furnished and clean. There is a tiny pool in the reception area but no one used it while we were there probably because it is crammed in by restaurant tables. The rate was good - 80 euros per room half board. This did not really suit us but as it was so cheap we did not mind missing the rather basic buffet. They only offered a half board rate, probably because they seem to mainly cater for package tours. However my only real complaint was that when we checked out they had charged us 63 euros for a rather ordinary bottle of Turkish wine we had ordered with dinner. I know we did not check the price but still felt we had been ripped off! Kaleici is a delightful place to visit but next time I would probably choose another hotel
The hotel is located in a beautifully restored traditional structure. The rooms are clean and somewhat small if you take the standard, as we did (However the standard rooms are actually not alike, some are small some are bigger, some very dark especially the ones looking to the second courtyard, not the one with the pool). The management, the service, the food, the attitude is terrible! The serving personnel seem inexperienced, either indifferent to the guests or too friendly which is disturbing. You feel you are not a guest but a real cow to be milked with extras, with really unrealistic charges. Once you get into this kind of mood what is the point of staying there? So do not! There are much better places in Antalya.
we stayed there the last 3 days of our holiday in turkey. it is a beautiful restored old ottman villa and i booked it for the beautiful pictures in the internet. it is beautiful but in many ways you do not get anything equal for the money you spent there. we booked a room for 4 and i was promissed a spacious room! as we arrived they showed us a tiny little room without window, one person could only move if the others were sitting on the beds, bathroom were realy dirthy and before the door only half a meter were the dinner tables. by double the price we could get 2 other rooms, there were okay, clean but no comparison with the pictures they have in the internet. the pool looks everywhere quiet spaceous in reality it is a little childrens pool. the towels by the pool after people have used them, were not washed no the staff take them , fold them and lay them back for new people to use them, the first day i always wonderd why they are so wet. stuff was mostly unfriendly and always wanted extra euros for everything. food was poor and drinks espacilly water (you should not bring from outside) very expensive. three times things, like t-shirts, keys, ect. disapeared and were only found after long and intensive investigations... i would not recommend these hotel
After two weeks in Turkey and having stayed in many different hotels, we arrived in Antalya on our last night before our departure. Upon arrival into the old city (which is very difficult to navigate or even know where or how to enter the closed off gates to the old city), we were met by a friendly front desk clerk and a friendly staff person eager to carry our bags to our two suites, Suleyman and Mehmet. There is a courtyard area with trees inside the entrance and a small swimming pool filling a large portion of the area. Once checked in, we went to our rooms. The atria and rooms are beautifully appointed Ottoman style and filled with Turkish decorations that are very complimentary. As in many Turkish hotels, the air conditioning is not turned on until guests arrived but it worked well once turned on. While the room was cooling down I went down to the bar to order drinks and they said they would bring them up. When they arrived, not only were the drinks exceptionally expensive, they also charged us €2 (even though Turkey is not part of the EU, this hotel charges in Euros) for delivery. I could have waited and carried the drinks myself and saved €2. A gin and tonic was $10. Ouch! We then chose to have a beer from the mini bar, and they too were excessively expensive. Why is Carlsberg (an import) less expensive than the local Efes beer??? Included in our half-board was dinner. We were very disappointed to see that it was a buffet. Not only that, but the offerings were not very Turkish. Seems Alp Pasa has found that a certain European clientele frequents the place and they have based everything (food, service, pricing) on that. Additionally, we witnessed the cook serving food, sneeze into his gloved hand and continue as if nothing had happened. The breakfast buffet was similar - little Turkish food offered. Additionally, I ordered 2 Turkish coffees, 1 YTL each (about $.67) and they charged €2 to deliver them to our breakfast table. Brutal! We also had our own vehicle in Antalya. It can be difficult for first timers to the hotel to find it in the old city. Make sure you ask for directions, or better yet, pay a cab driver to lead you there. Summary: We really liked the architecture and the decor of the hotel. The front desk staff were also very enjoyable. However, if you are looking for a Turkish experience that includes food and more local people, you may want to look elsewhere.
The Alp Pasa came highly recommended, but we did not feel it lived up to its reputation. Our room was noisy as the water heating tank for the hotel was behind our bedroom wall and we were woken up at all hours of the night because of this. We were stopped on one occasion att the front entrance of the hotel by a security guard who was rude and told us to immediately go to reception. There we were told that we were carrying a bottle of water and we were forbidden to bring water into the hotel as we had to buy their water ( at expensive prices). They wanted to charge us 2 euros a night for the hire of a key for the safe. Nowhere else in Turkey were we charged for the use of the safe. Some of the staff were very rude and unfriendly. The pool that features in so many photos was so small, it was more like a little pond or children's wading pool. The food at the buffet was less than average and we elected to eat elsewhere after the first night. Breakfast was good and the hotel itself was pretty. Overall, we felt that the Alp Pasa was overpriced and the standard of the room and of the service was very poor for what we were paying.
I have mixed feelings about our 6 day stay at the Alp Pasa. The hotel has been beautifully restored and we were given a lovely suite upgrade but something was not quite right. During our stay the comments by previous reviewers came to mind, "missed opportunity" and "management greed". I found the service abrupt and ungracious as if the staff was under the managements thumb and the management appeared "shady". I enjoyed the Turkish cuisine and the variety provided to accomodate other tastes. I did however feel put out by the decree that no bottled water be brought in to rooms, only the mini bar water to was to be consummed. In view of the fact that Turkish water is undrinkable and the mini bar water prices were "cranked" I felt this was unreasonable and greedy. The management went further to explain in writing that this was a common international hotel practice, I choose to ignore this rule and discarded the empties as in all my travels I have yet to encounter this rule. The last insult was our "transfer" to the airport ,we paid the hotel 25 euros for their air conditioned van ,we were provided with a very small taxi with no seatbelts and bungie cords for our luggage. The driver received 27 Ytl, the hotel pocketed the rest. I'd like to mention that housekeeping was just okay ie: the sheets were not changed in the 6 days we were there, and in general the room house keeping was slap dash, the main hotel however was well maintained. Unfortunately the Alp Pasa experience did not live up to its restoration. Guests from Vancouver Canada.
.We had a suite at the alp pasa and it was amazingly luxurious!Impressive place. We were on b and b which was fine.Breakfast was very good buffet ..exceptional by turkish standards and we ate a la carte there a few times..very good, not cheap. We found the drinks very pricey..I work in an upmarket bar restaurant here and ozzie the barman could not believe it when I told him their prices were more than mine!met Mr alp pasa a few times..........wouldnt want to cross him.The beach nearby is a tiny man made private beach that you have to pay to go on,accessed by a cafe bar.Antalya itself was very expensive and the staff at the alp pasa couldnt afford anything there at all!We did it as a 2 centre holiday with a week in Side as well and as both were b and b and included taxi transfers it was a bargain ...I think about 350 each for the two weeks.Certainly worth a visit just for the experience!
This is such a missed opportunity. Beautifully renovated Ottoman mansion blighted by greedy management. First of all I have no axe to grind as I booked on Expedia for 40% of the walk in price and was upgraded on check-in. However, I would have preferred to pay the full price in return for some good service and good food; both of which were lacking. The rooms are smallish but quite nicely done out. However, it's really the food where it is oh so apparent that you are being squeezed for your last lira. The buffet was like a large school canteen meal with lots of salads but nothing in the way of a main meal except rice, beans and some meat. The restaurant, whilst being incredibly attractive in the candlelight, is just too tightly packed to lend itself to enjoyable dining. The plates are as small as they come, so you are obliged to make numerous trips to the buffet whilst trying to wedge yourself out of the people around you. The service itself was OK but really over the top (in my opinion) when it comes to single women. However, should you wish to indulge yourself in some insincere flatery this would seem the place to come. If this hotel had good service and good food, then it would be a real gem as it is, you are constantly reminded of why you are there: so as to line someone else's pocket. Whilst we were there (out of season) 85% of the clientele seemed to be made up of one European group, who it must be said seemed to be enjoying themselves. So it's really horses for courses ...
August is a busy month in Antalya with many tourists, and a few terrorists running around that part of Turkey. Alp Pasa hotel located in the middle of the Old City of Antalya, was a pleasant experience and a different kine of hotel, than your usual resort or cookie cutter type hotel. It is more a theme hotel, with deep dark wood and an old world charm to it. I stayed in the hotel for about seven days, with was a little long, considering the are can be covered by foot in a couple days, and to travel to the local beaches has to be done by car or taxi. Service in the hotel was good, rooms clean, with everything working. Be aware the A/C shuts off if the room is not occupied, so the rooms can get very hot during the day and take time too cool off. Also, since it is half board (breakfast/dinner provided), all beverages must be paid for, including mini bar in rooms. Which is pretty pricey, and you can't bring in outside foods/beverages. Also lunch is not provided, which wasn't a problem, since I was away from the hotel during the day and enjoyed sampling different resturants in the afternoon. Food at the hotel was good and avaliable. I would go back to the hotel, but only for a few days to enjoy the old city, and center of Antalya, which has great shopping, resturants, and some night life to enjoy.
This is probably the single most over-rated hotel in which I’ve stayed. Arriving guests are greeted with an admonishment not to bring in outside food or drink. “You MUST use the minibar or hotel bar,” says the not-very-welcoming staff. The staff then reminds guests that the water is not safe to drink, not even safe for toothbrushing, but guests may purchase bottled water from the minibar. No, guests are forbidden to bring in outside-purchased bottled water. Hotel rates include meals, mostly made to the taste of European tour groups that are the primary hotel guests; Turkish food is not much in sight, and the breakfast coffee is so think it is entirely undrinkable. The air conditioning never functioned properly despite a couple of visits by what they called a technician (the same person who carried suitcases to the room). Our room had no free electrical outlets, which we needed to charge phones and a computer. The amenities did not include shampoo, and the sad shower cap provided my wife was torn. On one day I asked for an additional roll of toilet paper at about 7:30 in the morning. “Housekeeping staff doesn’t come until 8:30,” I was told, so it’s not available.
Formerly an Ottoman mansion, this charming boutique hotel is delightful, centrally located, and a solid value. Worth the splurge for the suite if you can! Warm woods, historical archaeological pieces, lovely architecture, and charming courtyard. The old city location is wonderfully close to the port as well as Hedrion's gate. Service was good - finding us a reasonable car rental for our explorative day trip up the coast (well worth stopping for road side honey!) & arranging our Medittereanean Gullat (boat). Our room included breakfast and dinner - Food was good, not amazing. It varied each day. Lunch was a disappointment but they worked hard to make it up to us - and without even a complaint, the management exceeded our expectations in taking care of it - even sending a bottle of wine to our room. Historically, the wealthy pashas and respected traders would stay at this mansion which has been restored with attention to detail. We liked the Alp Pasa so much we changed out ticket to stay one more night! After visiting a few other similiar hotels, we knew we had picked the best Friendly staff (Mustafa and Ozzie in the dinning room & bar)...Loved the Fetih Pasha Suite with its romantic canopy bed and beautiful art near the headboard.
Simply one of the nicest hotels i ever stayd in. Super friendly staff. A dream decor (you feel like you are the pasha himself), supreme food and affordable drinks. Don't wait, book now!!!
