I have just come back from a stay in this hotel and the previous reviewer is absolutly right. The place is making a joke out of the star system. Five stars speaks of luxery and quality service. Facilities even. You will not find any of these at this at this hotel. I was shocked at the shabby nature of the room we had. Tired and broken down, the fridge was empty and consequently very noisy, the radio system had obviously been broken for a long time and we didn't dare try out room service.The aircon didn't work - the tv had just 3 channels - french, two arabic and BBC world. The food in the restaurant was actually ok but varied very little from day to day, and is always buffet style so unless you get there on time its been raked over by a dozen people before you. The staff became more friendly as our stay progresed... but this hotel has little beyond its location to reccommend it. There is no gym, no swimming pool and no roof top cafe - all these things are distant memories. We had a great time in Tunis, but it was nothing to do with this hotel.

We thought we would end our holiday in Tunisia on a high, by booking a renovated room in a 4(5) star international hotel. Well, we preferred our 3 star in the desert resort of tozeur! When we booked a renovated room in an international 4 star, we expected it to have been renovated in the last year or so, this was not the case. We arrived at 9.30am and asked if we could leave our luggage there as we were not due to check in til the afternoon. They kept it for us, and told us to comeback in half an hour, and we would get a room then - which was a very good start. However, as they have no 3 bedded rooms, they had to put an extra bed into our room for our 13 year old son. It had no headboard, and as the rest of the furniture was fixed to the wall, there was no room to put this bed with it's head up against the wall. (We didn't fancy being wakened through the night to search for his pillow) This happened in a 2nd floor room. We also couldn't believe this was a renovated room, it was tatty, bashed lampshades, patch up job on paint, picture frame had cracked glass etc etc - I reckon this must have been renovated 5+ years ago. After much complaining we were offered a room on the ninth floor, it too had the same problem with the beds, but the head of the housekeeping had a good idea, in that they put the extra bed into a twin room, meaning we had one large double bed (one room bed and one extra bed pushed together) and one single bed, all with headboards. This was fine, and the room I think had been renovated 3-5 years ago. We are also glad we moved rooms, as they are renovating the third floor, which means banging of hammers and other loud noises from 8am onwards, so not much chance of a long lie or a siesta on the 2nd or 4th floors. We tried to get a safety deposit box, but there were none available, this was at 11am in the morning. Hot buffet breakfast was warm croissants and rolls, and a fried egg (which a ladle was provided for serving!). The staff were polite and as helpful as they could be under the circumstances, but all in all this hotel was just one big disappointment. This hotel does not cater for holidaymakers, and if I were travelling on business I would still think it left a lot to be desired.

I've just returned from Tunis today with my family. We paid to stay at the El-Hana Hotel in Tunis but unfortunately, upon arrival at the Hotel we were disappointed with the standard of accomodation. The location in central tunis is very good, the staff are very courteous, poliye and friendly. However, the problem starts from the lifts. There are three lifts on your left in the lobby but unfortunately only one of them was working. The single lift (on the right side) that services the resturant and the jamaican bar also works. The carpets both in the room and onthe landing are old and worn and reminds you of a rundown council estate. The decoration is still stuck i the late 1970s and needs a lot of updating and modernisation. The bathrooms and tiles in the bathrooms were old and some of the tiles were already falling off the wall or cracking. However, the final straw was when we called for assistance to turn on the airconditioner as it was a very hot day and we were informed that the hotelhad no airconditioner. At that point intime, we had no choice but to move out of the hotel and go and stay with friends, even though we had already prepaid for five nights. In my opinion, this hotel was not good value for money and the experience was not a very pleasant one.

My husband & I stayed in this hotel as part of our Malta & Tuniisia tour package from Academic Tours last March 2006. Being our first trip to this country, we do not know what to expect apart from what we read from our guidebooks. The hotel's location was just perfect and we were close to a lot of restaurants and shops. From the outside, the hotel looks quite ordinary, nothing fancy. The lobby may have been grandiose several centuries ago but currently it needs some upgrading and maintenance. A lot of people were just sitting in the lobby and not everyone were wholesome-looking to me. Prior to leaving the States, I informed my travel agent that I've read negative reviews about this hotel. He told me that they have upgraded the place & we will be staying in the renovated part of the hotel. Knowing this, I reminded the reception that I would like to stay in the renovated part of the hotel and she said our room will be in that part of the hotel. When we got to our room, we were quite disappointed. Despite the fact that the room is quite clean, the room looks pathertic. It looks like things were done in the room but they were not very good. The room safe is broken, the closet door almost breaking down & bathroom's pipes showing.I was told that this is a 5-Star hotel. This being Tunisia, we sort of, told ourselves that maybe their stardard is different from American stardards. Boy, I was wrong. A new 5-star hotel AFRIKA is just a few blocks from El Hana and this is truly a 5-Star hotel. I was disgusted with our hotel that we have been having lunch & dinner at the AFRIKA hotel. Breakfast was included at El Hana but it is nothing to be excited about. If you require luxury in your hotel, you won't find it at El Hana International hotel. Look some place else.

Having travelled a lot around the world and staying in hotels ranging from 2* to 5*, we're not naive enough to think cockroaches don't exist in certain places. But, it's still a shock to see not one, but two in the morning. The carpeting is old and stained. The decor is 50s/60s chrome. So, that's the bad and the ugly part. The good: it has a great location, close to the medina. The breakfast had a good variety of foods including excellent pastries; hard cooked and fried eggs, mystery meats, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and fruit. Since this hotel was booked as part of a package tour, I'm not sure if any of the others are situated as well or are any better. On our return, we stayed at the Khereddine Pacha, a very different kind of hotel. I still haven't figured out its exact location relative to the El Hana. The Khereddine Pacha is located in the business district and is a business man's hotel (think Ibis brand).

a large and functional hotel but rooms in desperate need of decoration. My fridge did not work two lights were broken. Few television channels. Breakfast good, dining room and lobbey ok, lifts are slow and inadequate. Its main advantage is its location. More a 3 star -definitely not 5 but priced reasonably

I stayed in this hotel for two nights and dearly missed the aircondition - the staff said it was out of service for the hotel these two days. Just in case the A/C fails as well when you go there, you better take an insect repellent for the midgets (and maybe also other animals) who attack when you open the windows.

i just came back from tunis.I can't imagine this hotel is with this high prices or low ratings.this hotel is very poor one.i found tunis so good but this hotel doesn't match what i have seen.

Why the Travel Agencies are lying about this poor Hotel? Is it the commision they get??? This Hotel is nothing more than 1- star. It is a shame on Tunis to allow false ratings and a shame on travel agencies that recommend this Hotel while they know it is poor in every thing....!!!!????

I traveled throughout Tunisia and stayed in various accomadations. El Hana International is the not worth the price, unless you are only interested in staying on the Bourguiba. The travel agents and guides in Tunisia recommend this hotel frequently, stating it is a 5 star hotel and that they can get you a good price. I would consider the hotel more of a 2-3 star and the agents do not get you a better price. Besides the grand facade , the rooms are unpleasant, the staff are not helpful nor hospitable and the breakfast is poor. If you want to stay at a five star, and expect a five star, go to the Africa hotel otherwise, you are better off staying in one of the three stars hotels in Tunis, where the staff are both helpful and inviting, and getting a bite from the many patisseries off the streets.

We were choked by the poor quality of the services. This hotel is dirty and facilities are very old. It merit no star !!!!

The hotel located in the best place for people who love to experiencing situation in the hearth and the center of city's downtown. But the service is not really like his name as international hotel, the hotel's staffs capability to communicate in English are very poor, this hotel is only good especially for people speak in French, italy, arabic or Spanish. The hotel's facilities are not only too old but relatively under the level of 4 star's international hotel.

The hotel is really looking like 70's! if you're missing life how it used to be- w/ a perfect price you can stay here! we appreciate the wi-fi in the lobby, and the nice service of the staff, we left a suit there and got it back! thank you!

Nice foyer. Renovated room was very good except no air conditioning.

The room we had was a perfect size for two people sharing and had a beautiful view of the city. The hotel location is perfect for visits to the Medina and for surrounding areas due to close proximity to train station. The breakfast was very good for the cost of the hotel and the service we got from the hotel staff was good. The best part of the hotel was the bar on the roof where you could have an excellent view of the city. I would recommend a visit for anyone staying at the hotel

every thing in this hotel is very bad only location is very good

good location on tunis's main road and near the medina, souks... Staff is very nice! Cleanliness is average... Tip: take the renovated rooms!

Nice Hotel to stay in Tunis. Good location and air-conditioned place. You can use your laptop with WI-FI at the hotel lobby.

i enjoied my stay at this hotel but there were two things the bathroom was not new as it's rating and the breakfast was ordinary.

Breakfast not good.
