Taiwan's noisy and crowded capital, Taipei is a fascinating place to spend time. Home to the world's tallest skyscraper, Tapei 101 (as well as the world's fastest lift to reach the top), the National Palace Musuem with one of the largest collections of Chinese art and ancient artefacts and a host of shrines, temples and colonial buildings, the only surprise is that more visitors do not book flights to Taipei. This, perhaps, is due to its past. Taipei has had a reputation for dirt and noise, which it is only now shaking off.
